[videoblogging] If the Winnies were not enough... Vlogalicious
Hey all. Gabemac here. It's only a couple of days away from the Winnies, and the fever is growing. All the events in the U.S. (vloggercon, Pixelodeon, Winnies, etc.) have been very inspiring for me. In Europe we have Vlog Europe which is attended by a small core group,(and I look forward to every year) but there is no event like the afore mentioned that is drawing in a new unknown public. Contrary to popular belief (reading various posts and articles) there is a vibrant vlogging community in Europe. I've seen it, I'm a part of it, it is here. However we in Europe tend to look at the States alot on this subject. Together with my girlfriend (who produces various theatrical events and awards for the arts here in Amsterdam) we came up with the idea of Vlogalicious. An event where we can have screenings of vlogs, panels and workshops and a party and award to top things off. I speak to a number of artists, play makers, docu filmmakers, students, sculptures, etc. who are interested in getting into vlogging, but just have no frame of what can be done. I'd like Vlogalicious to be just that. A place for new minds to gather to get inspired by the pros, and a place where the pros can kick back and discuss the future and past. And Amsterdam is a great place for that. We've organized a location that has 2 theatrical screening rooms, bar & restaurant & a theater podium. So we can have screenings (ala Pixelodeon), and panels, workshops, etc. ala vloggercon all in one place. I'll be posting some footage soon of the location. We have the date set for March 20-21, 2008 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (if you don't have a passport yet, now is a good excuse for it). Some ideas for discussions we have thought of are: - How to create a public fund for vlogging projects from the EU. - An inverted panel of service providers, so that instead of them telling you their new features, you all tell them what you want and need. - How to break into new areas of the world with your content, like Asia, Africa, South America, etc. - Improving your own skills in editing, filming and sound by getting master class workshops from D.P.s and editors, etc. and more... There is a website www.vlogalicious.com for more info (although it's just started) and a wiki link on the site for ideas and information. Let me know what you all think, good or bad... I know a number of people HATE awards events, but for me I feel it's more of a celebration that is a great excuse to get together and one that hopefully can inspire new and old more. Cheers, GabeMac www.vlogalicious.com

I agree Johnny. On needing more reviewers I say the only ones I know about at the moment are: we are the media (including zip zap zop and vlog soup, and of course Josh's picks) My own vlog news and review show xolo.tv And ocassionaly other news vlogs like rocketboom, mobuzztv, and a new one webtertainment.tv There is room for more flavor. Gabe and I are getting serious about it as we are building a new studio just for this and are gonna start full fledge in January. Finding them? Here are some tips, get fireant and subscribe to a mefeedia, deliocoius, or yahoo search on a tag for something like funny. Great stuff that way. Check the new entries on a number of vlog directories and podcasting directories that have new entires. And please do not forget one of my favorite ways, Every day just watch the new vids coming on blip.tv, dailymotion.com and youtube.com There you are. Gabe Mac's way for finding cool new vlogs to review on the show. But we always look at people who submit stuff. Cheers. [videoblogging] Vlog Calendar for charity
Dear Fellow Vloggers, Let's give something back this Christmas together. I first want to say how awesome it is to be a vlogger, and be a part of the vlogger community. There is so much potential here. We cheer each other when good stuff happens, and support each other and the world when the sh## hits the fan. After returning from Les Blogs, I got a phone call from my father telling me my grandmother is in a coma after having tumors in her brain removed. It won't be certain for a number of days if she has lost any brain function after the operation or not. This has shaken me up quite a bit, and I feel helpless. But then my girlfriend gave me an idea. I'm going to be putting a number of products online via cafepress with the vlogger theme. The coolest thing is a vlogger calendar. But I want to have all kinds of vloggers on the calendar, and on other products. The point is that all the proceeds that are earned (as cafepress takes some money off to produce the stuff) will be going to charity organizations. Of course cancer, hiv, warchild, redcross, oxfam, and one.org will be the charities I want to send the money too. So how can you help? 1. Pcik your favorite vlogger photos from the past year, and post them on flickr. 2. Tag these photos vlogcalendar. 3. When buying any christmas presents this year think about buying a few calendars or other products. 4. Link to the cafepress store on your site. The cafepress link to the store is: http://www.cafepress.com/xolotv The flickr group to post directly is: http://www.flickr.com/groups/vlogcalendar/ I want to get this out soon, so I ask you all to submit your pictures by monday, so I have 2 days to design and upload. I want to be in time for Christmas and New Years. Let's make a difference together, Sincerely, Gabe McIntyre Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~--> Get Bzzzy! (real tools to help you find a job). [videoblogging] Re: great post of police misbehavior
I have to say that this is a much nicer thread than what is happening on my vlog at the moemnt with the comments. I've just spent the last 2 hours removing hate comments about this posting. I tried to leave as many comments that actually were about the event rather than blatant hate comments. I've had a few before, but never 90 on one post. Lesson I have learned from this: Even though it is just a personal vlog for documentation sake, it doesn't make me immune to the shit that's out there. I love all you vloggers. Let's just remeber that we have to look out for eachother, and support wachother's freedom of speech, or freedom to document. Whether that be for personal celebrity, political gain, to pick up chicks, or just for the sake of vlogging. --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Verdi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Again, dismissive and patronizing. Well I will be hosting things for vloggers on both the 9-11 which will have more companies attending pandering to us vloggers, and the next weekedn will be more vloggers meeting eachother I guess. It comes down that some people can on IBC and others can't. So we are screwed either way. -Gabe In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Deirdre Straughan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Argh. [videoblogging] European VloggerCon Important Update!
Hello Everyone! Gabe Mac here. I have been e-mailing with Alex and Raymond about organizing the euro vlogger get together. Here is the situation. I have taken it upon myself (after being a prominent video blogger in Amsterdam) to help organize the gathering. I have talked with Raymond and others about hosting the "Euro Vlogger Con" on the 9-11 of september to coincide with IBC for a number of reasons. Here are a few: 1. I think we as a vlogger community could really make some noise at IBC to the press which the "media" pays attention too. I and my colleagues have the ability to make a lot of "noise" in the press about vloggers during this period. 2. It is really cool as a vlogger to go to IBC and see what is going on. Every year I send my first year students there to check things out, and they get inspired by how to use the technology there to do really AWESOME interactive media projects, never thought of before. Plus if you go to http://www.ibc.org before Aug 22, you can get a FREE pass to IBC. 3. I can get a number of people to come and talk to vloggers from companies such as Apple, Canon, and other professional media makers, documentary film makers, camera men, etc. in that week as they will be attending from all over the world. The reason why I think this is good os 2 main reasons: a. The knowledge of the products and techniques that these guest speakers will have can dramatically improve the quality of vlogs. Better quality allows for better communication of a vlogger's message. This is even important for me so that my grandma can understand the videos that I make. I'm not talking about commercialization here. I'm talking about communicating to those who are important to you better. b. Having those reps from those companies that supply us vloggers with the tools to do what we do is a golden opportunity. Let's be honest, a LOT of great wok has been done to make vlogging easier, but there are still only a few which hold the knowledge to the gates. Encoding, uploading, html linking, rss feeding is not easy. You think it's easy enough? Try teaching it and you find out how difficult it actually is for a lot of people. At this point we can as vloggers press these companies to supply us and future vloggers with the tools and services we need to make this an easier workflow and process to lower the threshold of vlogging. I have a lot of friends who blog, but few who vlog. And these are people who make films and videos for a living. They even have trouble folks. 4. I have started people among my friends and colleagues on a 9-11 weekend and I'm already pulling a lot of strings. It would be a shame to stop that in it's tracks as it is gaining momentum, also among people who are NEW to vlogging and want to find out more who have already shown an interest. I can say that I have already in 2 days had 20 e-mails about people who want to attend in that weekend who aren't all vloggers. Now here is the dilemma. Raymond and others can't make it on the 9-11, but they can the weekend after. I really want Raymond to attend in some way because I want him to explain del.ic.ous to me and others, and also talk about political vlogging. So here is the only solution I can come up with: We have 2 weekends of vlogging. The first weekend will concentrate on getting exposure to the outside world for vloggers. And vloggers teaching other vloggers. We can get people in on video chats from all over, and I will be setting up a live stream of the event for everyone to watch all day, with AIM + IRC chatting to interact. We will have the pros come and teach, as well as exposing the press to what is vlogging all about. (I have a number of friends that work for magazines and newspapers that want to attend). So that happens on 9-11, and I will be sponsoring that along with some other companies that are interested. I've even got some friends making vloggercon europe t-shirts. Then the next weekend we get together for a big party. I can imagine that a bunch of people may want to come from farther away and see some sights. So we start of with vlogging, then you can tour around Holland, Belgium, Paris, whatever for a week, then return to get together again and we have a huge all day picnic in the park. Barbecue, beer, wine, etc. Just a bunch of vloggers discussing the life of vlogging, and then going out into Amsterdam and having a great time together. So there is my proposal. I will be concentrating on getting information for accommodations, a place to host the conference, speakers, etc for the 9-11 as well as getting things arranged for the more informal gathering in the weekend of the 16th. Send me e-mails and let me know what you think, or which one you will be attending. I will be making a registry on our website this week so we can keep people up to date and get that linked on the vloggereurope site. Cheers all! -Gabe Mac from www.xolo.tv YAHOO! [videoblogging] European VloggerCon
Hey everyone. I feel that becuase of my location and my contacts in the area of Amsterdam I should really get active in this meetup. So here it goes. I will personally find us a place to host VloggerCon Europe. I'll talk to some of my contacts about either getting it hosted at a theater or somewhere else. I also have some interest from my friend at cannon to come and show camcorders and talk about them. Plus I can arrange some talks with some top Director's of Photography, people to talk about encoding and streaming methods (stream house.nl) and maybe even more. However I strongly recomend we meet during the weekend of IBC in Amsterdam which is the weekend before (9-11). What is IBC? The International Broadcasters Convention. I can also arrange a number of free passes for the vloggers attending. 2 reasons why I think we should go enmass at IBC. One, is to spread the word about vlogging and free media right in the face of one of the world's largest broadcasting conventions. Two, it is awesome to see the new cameras and technology that is coming out in both the consumer, prosumer, and broadcast markets. There. I said it. I know if we do it during IBC A LOT of people I know from Apple to CNN will be attending and would be interested in learning more about vlogging and meeting vloggers. Leave postings on vlogeurope.com or www.xolo.tv Hope to see you all in Amsterdam! (p.s. I know some great clubs there too!) SPONSORED LINKS Individual Fireant YAHOO!
