[videoblogging] Re: super cheap Xacti video cam on Amazon

2009-01-20 Thread Adam Mercado
Okay, so what is the difference between these cameras, besides the $700 price
difference?

HD1000

HD100

Is the 1000 really worth $900 compared to a HV30/40

cheers

I agree, a great camera that you dont mind not being too delicate with it...
and not too surprised he found such a good deal -- they make new models of
these xactis at a pretty steady clip so the older model (which is usually
only last years model) tend to get these good online deals.

[videoblogging] Re: super cheap Xacti video cam on Amazon

2009-01-12 Thread David Howell
Here's the link to the camera I bought http://tinyurl.com/9ce6jc

Surprised to see that it's now $199. I paid $99 when I got it.

I had originally bought the HD700 from Amazon. Was a little bummed when I got
it as the
LCD screen had a number of dead pixels and there was a white spot on all the
video I had
shot. I might have just got a bad camera though.

Returned it and saw the HD100 for $99 at Walmart and figured, for that price,
I'd give it a
try.

It has it's short-comings. You have to be patient with it and really plan out
your shots. It
has slow autofocus and not the greatest in low light. No stabilizer. Ect...etc.
For $99 and
an HD cam, cant really go wrong.

I really appreciate the comments on the video! Thanks :)

 Thanks!
I've been meaning to buy a Xacti for a while, and I was thinking that
a waterproof E1 would serve me well up here in the Pacific Northwest
winter. (Seems the trick is not to totally immerse it too much, or
 the screen dies)
Also, I've loved the quality of the footage that people get with
 their E1s.

But I saw David Howell today in Vancouver, and he had a Xacti HD100.
It shoots great video. If you haven't seen his recent video shot at
English Bay in Vancouver with it, you should check it out - some of
the shots are stunning. Admittedly, most of the imagemaking is done
by the person making the image, not the camera... but anyway, he said
he got his HD100 at Walmart for...
 $99.00

Maybe he was yanking my chain.

$99 for an HD camera that shoots stuff that good. Must have been a
clearance sale or something. Or a mistake.
I've done 10 hours of travelling today so I'm too tired to check on
Walmart.com to see if that offer's still on - but it might be worth
checking out what they have, and for how much.

In case you are looking for something like this. Had fun with mine on
 the
waterslides the other week. (they are waterproof)
