[videoblogging] Re: tripod advice
It probably me, but I always get the level wrong somehow. Maybe I´m just lazy, but after head ball adjustment like on the Vinten I use, nothing feels the same. Tried a Manfrotto at a local dealer (Lisbon), and it seemed very good but expensive. This showed up in BH, and seems more like what I´m looking for http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/243272- REG/Davis_Sanford_PROVISTA7518B_Pro_Vista_Tripod_with.html Miguel. - Original Message - It won't be sideways when you pan if the tripod is level (that was the point of adjusting one of the legs) It helps to level in two dimensions ... more like 360 degrees. I'd be lost without my little level on the tripod. I'd never thought about that is a 360 degree level. Jeffrey [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

- Original Message - From: miglsd27 Thank you all for your replys. What I was looking for was something like what I have in our Vinten tripod, a ball based head, that levels the head only. Adjusting the tripod legs always leaves me sideways when I pan, I hate that. But I see there aren´t many options, altough Manfrotto does seem the best option. For me, an horizon that is not horizontal on the frame (does this make sense?) is more disturbing than a squeeky or bouny pan or tilt movement. But maybe thats just me ;). === It won't be sideways when you pan if the tripod is level (that was the point of adjusting one of the legs) A suggestion: see if you can find a circular level. Some tripods have this built in, but you can buy a general purpose one that is somewhat bigger than a built-in one .. but will work for setting up the tripod. It's a round device with two or three concentric rings and, of course, a small bubble of air inside. It helps to level in two dimensions ... more like 360 degrees. Unlike a conventional ruler level that is designed to level only in one dimension. Richard Amirault Boston, MA, USA http://n1jdu.org http://bostonfandom.org http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7hf9u2ZdlQ

Miguel. - Original Message - From: Michael Verdi Not cheap as in $50 but cheap in good tripod terms (about $175) I have a Manfrotto set - head 701RC2 and legs 190XDB. I bought them from BH about a year and a half ago. I like them a lot. Unlike cheap tripods .. the Manfrotto / Bogen units are two piece units. They sell the legs and then they sell the head Whether it is a still photo head or a video head. So you can put a variety of heads on the same legs. Yes, you can buy then together in one transaction .. but you'll have to put them together when you receive them, because the head will not be mounted on the legs. I own three Manfortto tripods (and one monopod) Good stuff. Richard Amirault Boston, MA, USA http://n1jdu.org http://bostonfandom.org http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7hf9u2ZdlQ
