Better media handling in Drupal Core is also one of the priorities at the
code sprint that will be going on the day after DrupalCon ends. I'll be
there, I hope you'll be too: http://boston2008.drupalcon.org/codesprint

just saw this post from arthurf on the Drupal video group that may be
of interest. if you're in boston around march 3rd, he's looking to
meet up with interested parties at drupalcon08

"I just wanted to alert people who are interested in doing video/media
work on Drupal that I've finally had the time to put together some of
the tie-ins that make it possible to create some pretty remarkable
video functionality. Using media_mover [1] to do transcoding of uploaded
videos, xspf_playlist [2] to build dynamic playlists, and flvmediaplayer
[3] to render the player, we can now have a video player which not only
plays user uploaded content, but can both recommend content based on a
views [4] or play a list of content generated by a view [5]. FLV Media
Player [6] will let you take the player and embed it in a page off site
if desired. Further, you can use a dynamic configuration file for the
player which allows you to alter the appearance and behavior of embedded
players already deployed in the field."

i've used it quite a bit

good stuff.

just type the video or hosting page url into a field and it looks up
thumbs and generates various sized embedded players for youtube, blip
and several other hosting providers. you can create custom providers
for those that are not yet supported or for your own site. I created
one for archive.org. was kinda fun.

WOW, these are really great tips. i've been using drupal for the past
year for luckofseven.com and use the video module and blip. i first
upload my video to blip and then place the FLV source into the video
node content field, then there is a field for "enclosures" and add the
blip.mov/m4v location... for the sanity of my digital marriage, i just
promote my blog RSS feed...

one thing that i louve about drupal is the multiple approaches to one
problem. i'd love to hear what works for you.

most just have embedded ads

one uses the CMS to both manage content and affiliate promotions for
DVD subscriptions, if that relates

Yay!  It did, indeed, help.  Thank you.  Finally got FireANT to not tell me what a loser I am.

Also, note that you can continue to link to the Drupal playback page
in your posts, but you cann also include a *secret* link directly to
the video file so that FeedBurner can make enclosures for you. Just
add a link like this somewhere in your blog entrires:
http://full/path/to/file.mov" rel="enclosure">

Notice that there's no text between tags, so the link doesn't
render in the browser, but its still there in your code!
I'll give that a shot later.  Thanks again for the help.

Re: [videoblogging] Drupal Feeds

2005-09-18 Thread Joshua Kinberg
Hi Devlyn,

Thanks for checking out FireANT... I think I know the solution to your
issue without having checked your feed...

There is a recurring problem with Drupal RSS feeds. They are
non-standard and choke many RSS parsers. The issue is a result of a
non-standard DOCTYPE element thrown in at the top of the feed. There
is no RSS DOCTYPE, and this element needs to be removed.

Here's the fix:

Delete the following line from node_feed portion of node.module within
the module directory:

$output .= "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml-lat1.ent\";>]>\n";

This successfully deletes the DOCTYPE line from the RSS Feed coming from
Drupal.

render in the browser, but its still there in your code!

I'm still learning and am not sure yet what enclosure is or how to make
it happen.  I was hopping Drupal/Feedburner would take care of the
nasty details.  I'll start digging into it to see where I am
failing (as soon as I figure out what enclosure is.)

also it seems like your urls are all to pages, not to media
(when i click on your vlog video image, i get no video - it takes me to

So I think I figured out what I was doing wrong to not get the
enclosure tags working in feedburner.  On my images, I was linking
to the 'play' page of Drupal instead of directly to the file.  I
am now linking directly to the files and seem to be getting the proper
enclosure tags from feedburner.  Still no love from FireANT,
however.

I checked another feedburner feed that does the same thing (links to
page, not media) and it seems to work fine in FireANT.

Fixed that.  I turned on  Clean URLs in the Drupal administration settings.

I did actually watch that vid, which is what pointed me to
feedburner.  I'll re-watch to see if I missed a critical settings.
