So when people have valid information in a press release that would be
applicable to us they should rewrite it?  Got it.  So MeFeedia, FireANT,
etc, are fine, but companies announcing other products are bad?  Seems
silly to me.  If there was some sort of deluge of press releases coming
here I'd understand it, but the material today was applicable and they
wrote an introductory paragraph annotating the press release, so I felt
like it was good form.

that would be preferred... i agree.  attach or reference a press release, but try not to paste in haste.
but i am def interested in relevant press releases.

I completely agree with that approach. Press releases don't exactly
foster meaningful discussions like a message from a real person do...

I agree with Clint here. I wasn't put off by this press release.
It was relevant and had a nice note to introduce.
I know Halcyon has contributed to the discussion and he is working
with Veoh, so I was interested in what they are offering.

Since I've been snarfing up press releases for the Vlog Press Kit I don't
particularly mind, but certainly understand how the rest of the group might
find them not in keeping with the atmosphere we aspire to foster.

Perhaps if we think of these press releases as learning tools rather than
insults they would be more palatable.

Was that a good press release? What if you were a real journalist and
received it? Would you be motivated to follow up?

better yet, post a videoblog entry (or screencast) and let us know about
that in your "human" message

or Raymond may have to do it for you ;-)

The one thing that bothered me was that the guy didn't wrap his e-mail so
it was a pain to try and read. I would prefer a ban on faulty mail clients
before a ban on press releases. :o)

honestly folks... i think we all know when something becomes a
problem... and a few relevant press releases is not something to get
all worked up about.  the key is that it pertains to open/indie
media distribution/publishing technology and the like.

as stated, i would enjoy a more personal approach, but i can handle a few official press releases coming down the pipe.
lets remain loose while filtering the real crap... which has been non-existent of late =)

cheers!
