Re: [Videolib] Question about "Disappearing World" series

2011-11-14 Thread CAPLAN Victoria F
Hi all,

Does anyone know if there has been a DVD release of the Grenada TV
anthropological series "Disappearing World"?

Films.com used to sell, but that series does not seem to be in the catalog.

Thanks for your help.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.

Re: [Videolib] US distributor for "Admiral"?

2011-11-14 Thread Jessica Rosner
Do you need for a class, research or exhibition? If the first two it
is out in the UK, so just buy it and play it on a multi system
player. http://www.moviemuser.co.uk/Reviews/814/The-Admiral-DVD.aspx

If you need exhibition rights than again go to Variety review for info
on the rights holder and try contacting them.

OK from now on I am charging a minimum of $20 bucks for these
"searches". Honest people it is not that hard. I know you might hid a
dead end but at least start with trying to track down original listed
rights holders.

2011-11-14 Thread Jessica Rosner
The original New York Times Review lists 4 separate
producers/companies. The original producer has died and I suspect his
company is defunct however one of the companies was The Danish Film
Institute which can be easily contacted. I am sure they do not own the
film but I bet someone there could help you figure out who does or
give you some contact info.

Re: [Videolib] US distributors for licensing 3 French films?

2011-11-14 Thread Jessica Rosner
OK but this my last freebie. The first one is IFC, the 3rd is Samuel
Goldwyn. Both have US offices. Delicatessen is older and those rights
may require you to go to European rights holder. Here are the first
two things to do to search the rights and it does not take much.

A. If film was released theatrically in the US find the distributor. I
find New York Times review best for this.
B. If the film was not released in the US or if you can't track down
the original distributor (FYI if they are still in business but no
longer have the rights try very hard to get them to check their
records for contact info) go to the original Variety review for info
on original rights holder/ producer.

Google is good.

Re: [Videolib] rights holder for Babette's feast

2011-11-14 Thread Jessica Rosner
I think that is one you are going to have to track back directly to
the rights holder in Europe. I would start with the original
producer/rights holders listed in the Variety review. Since most
foreign films only had 7-10 year contracts many have expired. This one
seems totally out of print, but it is not unusual for a title to be
say available on home dvd ,but for the rights holder for exhibition
and streaming rights to be outside the US. It is increasingly common
to leave the exhibition rights in particular out of new or even
renewed contracts as they are considered unimportant by many
distributors.

At least this title was released in the US and was at one point
available on DVD which puts in better shape than some.

I like my Able Planet headphones, somewhat because they have active and
passive noise-reduction system (I assume there's less noise at your library
than a plane, though perhaps not by much sometimes), but mostly because
they have a detachable cord so when (not if) they break, the cord can be
replaced cheaply.

Subject: [Videolib] Headphone recommendations?

Hi folks,

Any recommendations for cheap but durable headphones for use in media labs?
We've been using super-cheap Coby and Unitone headphones for several years, but
they break quickly. We're willing to spend a little more if it results in fewer
headphones chucked in the trash.

Thanks,

Matt

[Videolib] US distributors for licensing 3 French films?

2011-11-14 Thread Marilyn Huntley

Hello everyone,
I'm taking the lazy way out, instead of searching to the ends of the
earth for these movies myself. I didn't find them readily, so I'm ready
for some help. Does anyone know whether there's a distributor in the US
with the public performance rights for any of these films?

L'arnacoeur (Heartbreaker); 2010, Pascal Chaumeil.
Delicatessen; 1991, Marc Caro & Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Roman de Gare (Crossed Tracks); 2007 Claude Lelouch.

Thanks in advance for any leads you can give me.
