According to the reviews and comments on IMDB, Jerry Lewis has the one print, possibly finished, possibly not. The film is a legal limbo from which it is not likely to emerge. Cast members who saw the print were embarrassed. People who have read the script said it was tasteless and horrible. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068451/reviews Brigid Duffy Academic Technology San Francisco State University San Francisco, CA 94132-4200 E-mail: bdu...@sfsu.edu On Aug 18, 2011, at 5:10 PM, Jessica Rosner wrote: I am sure it awful, but since no one has ever seen it , kind of hard to know just how bad. Re: [Videolib] The Day the Clown Died
I don't think the film is in legal limbo, it is just that Lewis has no intention of ever allowing it out. Ironically one truly great film which is in legal limbo partly because of Jerry Lewis is HELLZAPOPPIN, Olson Johnon's slapstick existential masterpiece from 1942. Lewis bought the rights to the show for live tour and it has been unavailable in the US for many decades but runs at least once a week in Paris.
