Well, I don't get the crash and it happens somewhere deep in X11 library
functions, I can't guess what a workaround could be.  Since Vim has
always worked fine with all kinds of Motif, I would still think it's a
problem in the X11 library.  Wouldn't be the first time...

i don't think so. it crashed in both twm and gnome+metacity.

this is with lesstif2/motif-2.1 (ubuntu pkg: lesstif2-dev 0.94.4-1).
it also crashed with the latest lesstif (0.95.0) compiled
from source.

but it does work fine with lesstif/motif-1.2
(ubuntu pkg: lesstif-dev 0.93.94-12).

i'm happy with that.
