Re: Places to Acquire a PowerPC Mac?

2019-06-19 Thread Chris House
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll certainly be looking around for some more
time, but I think the places you suggested can help reduce the time I'm
looking. I will certainly look at the Mac mini a bit more closely though.

Thanks again!

2019-06-19 Thread Chris House
Thanks for your reply! I had definitely looked at the Mac minis before, and
after looking at all of my options, I've decided to switch my focus over to
those. It would certainly be great to have a PowerBook, but I believe that the
Mac mini would be a more convenient machine to tinker with.

Chris,

I might be able to help, though I’ll have to cobble together something from a
stack of PPCs in my archive and it might take a month or so.

Send your contact info to my included email.

Re: Places to Acquire a PowerPC Mac?

2019-06-19 Thread superstar64
I think LEM Swap is a good place where only apple stuff is sold, and I
myself ended up striking a deal in this group to get a Power Macintosh 5200
with a 5500 board, but in terms of eBay alternatives, I like Mercari
because you can get a crazy deal on some of these older Macs, especially G3
and G4 laptops. Doing a search myself (although I already have a 2005
PowerBook G4 and 3 iBook G4s, it's easy to find the old G4 systems for less
than $100. I would also like to mention that I got ALL of my G4 laptops for
less than $100, and all my iBook G4s have good batteries. I may also be
able to recommend a G4 iMac since they have a unique compact design, but
for you, avoid the G4 Tower (if you're lucky you can find a cube for a good
price.) If you ever need buying help, I can spot a good deal.

2019-06-19 Thread theonetruestickman
Have you already looked at the LEMSwap list? If there's nothing in the
recent posts put out a WTB and see who comes up with something. If you
don't need portability, you should also consider the G4 Mac Minis - they're
super compact and won't have the battery issues or price premium of the
MacBooks.

Also keep an eye on craigslist & FB marketplace, I do see G4 stuff pop up
occasionally there.
