Scott,
Yes there is no problem using the IIfx Power Supply with the II
motherboard. The variable speed fan is thermostatically controlled and your
Motherboard and expansion card will take what they need from the power
supply in terms of power. The IIfx power supply was made by Sony the II/IIx

Have you also removed any NuBus expansion cards that where installed? You
may also try a different video card if you do have a NuBus video card. But
failing that, it would probably be the Surface Mount Electrolytic
capacitors that need replaced.

Re: Media 100 system, free to good home.

2016-08-26 Thread Matt Patoray
A Laserdisc really does not need time base correction, although a TBC will keep
the sync stable through bad dropout conditions.

For vhs and other helical scan analog video formats, it really is a must
because they make a mess out of the sync signal, even after restoration by the
vcr.

Re: Mac llFX

2015-07-15 Thread Matt Patoray
Lou,

If you have a known working power supply and known good batteries(there is
no corrosion on the battery holders) then the most likely cause for what
you are seeing, is weak/bad capacitors on the logic board. The most likely
caps to be going bad are the surface mount electrolytic caps, they can be
replaced, but to do it properly without damaging the multi-layer circuit
board takes special tools.

Re: macintosh ii

2015-06-23 Thread Matt Patoray
Are you sure it is a mac II, the mac II was a 68020 machine not a 68030.

It could be an issue with your power supply?

On Tue, Jun 23, 2015 at 12:41 PM, coverturtle covertur...@gmail.com wrote:

Is this a plain Mac ii with the large rectangular box? Just curious.
If the tops of the caps are visibly open or popped, then they are best
replaced before even attempting to power up for best results. Also, if
there are stains on the logic board under the cap, it is leaking anyway.
If any caps are leaking then it is best to get a kit and replace them all
because those still good old caps will probably eventually fail anyway.

If you aren't familiar with replacing caps on a circuit board, read the
 next paragraph.

You could easily ruin the logic board when replacing the caps, so be very
careful. Don't force anything. If you have never replaced caps before, then
you should read up on it and watch a few (YouTube) videos. Best if done
with a reworking station, better if you use a vacuum assisted soldering gun
but doable with much care taken with a normal soldering iron, copper braid
 and a solder sucker.

Good luck. Take progress photos (and even videos) if you want and post
 them when you are successful.
 We'd like to see!

Re: IIfx power suply

2014-12-22 Thread Matt Patoray
Sounds like it is a DB-15 to 3 BNC adapter cable, standard for connecting
1024x768 and higher res monitors back then.

I would get one of those standard DB-15 to HD-15(VGA) adapters with the
setup switches that way you can force the card to go to say 1024x768 and
display it on a standard VGA monitor.

I’ve tried the card in different slot no success neither - will try in
IIci (with PDS-NuBus adaptor after the Christmas - as I don’t have it here
 with me now)

Based on the sound of HDD, PSU and startup chimes all seems to be OK just
 no video
The problem is that the video card is some sort of obscure one I’m not
able to find any info about and the cables I got to that are even more
obscure - Apple connector on one side and 3 wires (R,G,B) on the other ….

I would try a different NuBus slot and make sure the cable is not faulty.
Also, the display is another part of the equation here so do you know if
the display works as expected from another system?

might not be able to support this strange small monitor.

Anyone would have any suggestion for some NuBus video capable of

Re: Horizontal line on screen

2014-11-07 Thread Matt Patoray
First, don't use it any more with the problem you will burn a permanent line in
the phosphor, if you must turn it on turn the brightness way down until you can
just barely see the line.

You have lost vertical deflection, I would check around the IC mentioned
earlier. I would also inspect the other components around it. For reliably sake
I would also replace the capacitors around that IC. Use quality brands like
Panasonic or Nichicon, use the same capacitance or a bit higher just not lower
but you can go a bit higher in voltage for an extra margin. I also use 105
degree rated caps.

I have no idea why anyone would PREFER Tantalum caps, they have a limited life

You can now buy lytics that are the same size if not smaller then 20 year old

Hi,

It sounds like there are one or more bad capacitors on the logic board
preventing proper operation.

They can be replaced.

The portable is basically what Sony was able to miniaturize the Mac Portable

Re: Mac Plus 1 MB

2011-11-03 Thread Matt Patoray
Hi,

The SCSI id should be one on the drive and it will need to have an external
terminator.

You said the drive has both 6.0.8 and 7.1 that might be your issue. The plus

one on the boot drive.

Also the software installs are different for a plus and a classic.

You can just search something like Fujitsu Magneto Optical on ebay
