Re: DOS

2001-10-11 Thread Adam

OK, don't forget PC-DOS from IBM..

Actually, PC-DOS was MS-DOS rebranded by IBM. Unsurprisingly, MS-DOS was
actually Seattle Computer Products 86-DOS acquired and rebranded by
Microsoft, which was also called QDOS (Quick Dirty DOS.)

I didn't have time to do it right, so I did it quick and dirty -
86/Q/MS-DOS creator Tim Paterson.

Resetting EtherPrint password

2001-10-11 Thread John Ruschmeyer

I recently picked up a used Dayna EtherPrint-3 (as-is from a eBay auction).
Unfortunately, it appears to have a password set on it.

Anybody know how break into one/clear a forgotten password?

Thanks...

Is there such a thing for the 6100?

Stepping Out, from Berkeley Systems (the After Dark folks), might work.

MaxAppleZoom, which is what you're probably referring to, only works (as
you may know) with a few Apple video cards and does NOT work with ANY
onboard video.

You might be able to physically adjust the monitor to remove this border,
but it's really not a good idea unless you're very comfortable working in
there and don't mind the risk that you could shorten the monitor's life by
putting higher-than-normal voltages on some of its components.

Nope. Max Apple Zoom or that other similar piece
of software only works with certain Apple NuBus
videocards. The only chance you'd have of making it
work would be to get a NuBus adaptor for the 6100
and use the videocard from the Mac II.

Well, that may have been true earlier, but the newer versions of PC-DOS were
(IMHO) far superior to Microsoft's offerings, especially since MS-DOS 7 was
never a full product (Version of DOS Win95 is run on top of, missing most
utilities included in MS-DOS 6.22)

2001-10-11 Thread Marten van de Kraats

Hmmm, how about System 6-2001? Fully Y2K+ compliant
and lightning fast! 100% rewritten for PowerMac. :)
Providing 68040 and full FPU emulation it also
emulates a virtual 24bit mode to run those old
Mac apps... Yeah, that'll happen.

Well, system 6 already is y2k+ compliant and on my website is an
article written by somebody running system 6 on a 68040... The only
thing missing is the 100% rewritten for PowerMac part. That would be
the hard part... Assembly language development for a RISC chip...

Had already checked Gamba, Version Tracker, Info-Mac and many others.

Found it, Stepping Out.

I seem to recall that Sum Remarketing bought out the Berkley stuff.
Found it with Google. Suns price is $19 (WOW).

Description: This ingenious little piece of software extends the

Re: Transferring stuff from 2gs to Macs

2001-10-11 Thread Cameron Kaiser

I have obtained an old apple 2gs and a 2ci. I would like to transfer a
few things forward from the old 5 disks onto floppys- and then
ultimately onward to my 950. I have an external drive for each size and
have connected them to the 2gs and / or the 2ci. Problem: can't get the
800k floppy to read from the 2gs and can't get the 5 disks to read from
the 2ci.Is there anybody here that could nursemaid me through
transferring info from those older than old dinosaurs.

ACK! DO NOT CONNECT THE 5.25 DRIVES TO A MAC! You're lucky you haven't
fried your floppy controller already! You'll have to transfer these files
over 3.5 disks in the IIci. Use GS/OS or a program like Copy II+ on the
GS to copy the files from the 5.25 disks onto a ProDOS 3.5 disk, and
with Apple File Exchange or PC Exchange, these should be directly readable
in the Mac. Don't use DOS 3.3 disks for this.
