Go back, John. Get the one for a System 7.1 Disk Tools downloaded into your
machine.

Get back to me.

Funky video on my IIci

2002-07-03 Thread Jason Trunzo

Hi everyone!

What is this all about? I have a IIci with 32mb of RAM, the IIci
Cache card, ans running system 7.1 It is connected to a 15 inch
macintosh Color Display. For some reason unknown, when I power up
the monitor won't kick on. It's power light is on, and it is using
it's own power source; plugged into the power strip and not the IIci.
What I have to do is leave the video cable un-screwed so that I can
quickly pull it off and plug it back in while the IIci is boting and
this kicks the video on every time! What could possibly be wrong?
IS there not enough juice getting through during the intial boot
sequence? Why is it that it only happens after a complete power-down
and cold start? If I warm-boot the machine and the conneciton is
already established I have no problem. It's just from power-up, and
it is every time, not matter when.
Anubody got any i deas? It's starting to worry me because I don't
think it wise to wear on my port by pulling and plugging the cable
with every power up.

Other than this, the IIci and it's parts work perfectly. I have it
phonenetted into my home network made up of a G3 enhanced 7500, a
7200/90 file server, a Duo Dock plus with a 230 in it, and a IIsi for
email. The IIci is my publishing machine, it runs Adobe PhotoShop 3
and Illustrator 6, QuarkXpress and my GoLive WA stuff. That is my
little network, as if you were interested.

Anyway, if anyone knows what may be wrong h ere, I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks!

Video ram! None of them had any video ram!
I went to the Goodwill and get a feelthy LCII and 12" RGB that where still
attached by the video cable for $10. I took it home and it worked. I looked
inside and there was no ram but there was something else. at first I thought
it was a rom simm, so I pulled it out and read it. I read video... oh
no.. All that time. All that trouble. All those e-mails (thanks).
All those headaches. where'd all the vram go?
I need to go lie down.

Heh. Forgot the LC and LC II don't have any onboard. That'll do it :)

Sounds like a bad cable or connector on the mobo. Might be some problems
in the video circuitry too - the lack of a problem after the machine warms
up well indicates there might be a cold solder joint somewhere.

Jason,
A couple of my ci's would take about 30-45 seconds to send a signal to the
monitor at cold boot. Are you waiting long enough? Or does the signal not
come through at all even after the system is clearly ready for input?

More info would help.
Is that a 15" MultiSync display? What is its model number?
What is the part number that is embossed on the video cable?
Did this setup work OK at one time, or has it been this way from the beginning?

Make a 1.4MB floppy of it. Stick it into your LC. If it fails to read
you gotta pull and clean the drive. (Assuming the cable's connected).
Or get another one.

To test it impatiently, (my favorite way), get a drive from another 68k
Mac and take the top off the LC, hook it into the motherboard and try that
floppy again.

No response? I think it's the drive in the Machine you're using to make the
floppies with. Unless you get a black screen and a sad Mac. THEN, my friend
there's a problem with the source file, off the 'net, or the Mac making the
floppy's a mess.
