64 pin ram
I've dug some 64 pin modules out of some Laserwriter boards and would like to know what they are. One pair came off a board that also had 1 72 pin simm on it. The other pair came off a board that also had 2 30 pin simms. The latter 64's seem to be labeled ROM. I don't know much about any of this, but hte end in mind is to know if this stuff is ram and if it will run in a IIfx. -- All the best, R.A. OS copyright
I'm starting this on the Vintage Macs because it might be the case that many vintage Mac users/owners find themselves using upgraded software re Operating Systems. We've had several strings that have discussed the do's and don'ts, right and wrongs about using software with . . .or without owning it, but I have a couple of lingering questions. If you are using a computer with an Operating System installed on the hard drive, it seems reasonable that the creator and copyright owner require that you have the disk and therefore the right to use his/her intellectual property, and that if you use it in violation of that requirement you be deemed guilty of infringement of his/her copyright and subject to penalty, civil and/or criminal. What about having that same Operating System installed on a computer that is sitting in the corner of the room, not being used? (hold on, I'm building up to a question). How about that same Operating System installed on a hard drive that is not in a computer, but that is just sitting on your desk? Are you just a guilty as in the instance where the OS is in immediate use? How about on a computer sitting out in the garage with an OS on the HD that you have no disk for? I'm not really interested in hearing a bunch of practical advice in the matter, but in discussing the abstract principles involved. -- All the best, R.A. If so is there a version of DOS that will live and run on the floppy? I would like to make it do something more than say it is ready to do something, which is what I suspect it will do if I get Dos running in it . Any and all advice welcomed, even the sarcastic. R.A. Where to get Ram
I bought four 16 mg 30 pin simms from Macsolutions.com about two years ago and they are functioning perfectly in my Quadra 700. They were inexpensive for the date, too. I think I paid $17.95 a stick. They got them to me one day earlier than promised as well. I have no affiliation with them, and that has been my only purchase from them. All the best, R. A.
