Re: IIsi video question
I'm not sure who made these adapters (I bought the lot through eBay). They are yellow with only 1 switch. The switch switches between 21 MULTI and VGA/G3. Under the 21 MULTI the resolutions go from 640x480 to 1280x1024. Under the VGA/G3 side there's only 2 resolutions 640x480 and 1600x1200. Either side worked on my PM7300/200 - though I noticed that the video was more stable under the VGA/G3 side. I originally had a 12 Apple monitor and I seemed stuck on 640x480 as well as thousands of colours only. When I used the adapter and hooked it up to a 15 NEC Multisync, I got millions of colours and resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x768.I was able to attach a Daystar 12 monitor as well. I'm not sure if I'm going to get rid of them. I'll let you know off list if I am. on 10/26/02 7:40 PM, Charles Shannon Hendrix at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Sat, Oct 26, 2002 at 07:19:06AM -0400, A.Tuazon wrote: Just wondering because I have about 18 of these adapters lying around and I would like to upgrade the 13 monitor that currently sits atop my IIsi. IIsi video question
Would it be possible to use a Mac to VGA adapter on a IIsi and hook up a VGA monitor to it? Or would I be harming the built-in video on the IIsi? Just wondering because I have about 18 of these adapters lying around and I would like to upgrade the 13 monitor that currently sits atop my IIsi. Thanks, so far... And peeking inside my Quadra, I see what was meant by the connector being longer. Learn something new every day... Now I'm trying to find out just which SuperMac card I have on here. I'll be replacing the PRAM battery shortly, hopefully that'll help. What would also help (if I could find one) would be a layout and description of what's in this (and other macs.) I see the 30-pin memory, what looks like a 72-pin (which I was actually assuming was the PDS, when I thought the PDS was a Nubus... oy... at least that makes sense now!) that I'm assuming is for cache?? and on the riser, what looks like either an upgrade or FPU socket. From what I've seen so far of the Apple manuals, they're all text (no, I don't have the originals, just what I can find online.) At least I have the stuff on back figured out. g Thanks again, Eric __ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? Re: IIsi video and such
The Quadra PDS is a different beast than the IIsi and SE/30 PDS. Same principle though. The slot that looks like a 72 pin SIMM slot is Apple's hedge against the chance they may have screwed up something in the ROM. Apparently they did in the very early IIsi as some shipped with a ROM SIMM. Those are highly prized because at least one version works in some revision of the SE/30, allowing it to run system 7.6 and take full advantage of the maximum possible 128megs RAM without the sticky business of Mode32. (I'm sure it gets a bit on the rough side if you need to boot with extentions off and can then only use 8 megs RAM.) Yes, that is an FPU socket on the riser. Plug a 68882 chip into it. Is the slot on the riser NuBus or PDS? That's the videocard, right? If it has a PDS on there you should be able to plug a IIsi or SE/30 NIC onto it. :) One thing to watch out for when using SE/30 PDS cards in a IIsi is some cannot handle the speed bump from 16 to 20Mhz. I just wonder if plugging an AUI adaptor and CAT5 cable into the onboard video could kill it? (And of course trying to network it by hooking the other end of the cable into an active LAN.) = The earth swarms with inhabitants. A less expensive way, if you have access to some cheap PC monitors (or have some good ones on hand), is to get a Mac-VGA adapter box, like the one Omnimac sells. Macvizion has these (macvizion.com). That will let you use your Mac on a lot of PC monitors, but not all of them. I personally can get 1024x768 on my IIci with it.
