Sorry forgot to change the subject so am re-sending. Hello all well what I do is mute VoiceOver before recording in Dropvox. That way any notifications will not be picked up in the recording. Any thoughts? Yeah that's just how IMessage works. If they start the confrence by entering your mailaddress in the to field, you'll show up as your mail address in their messages app. I fixed this by deleting the whole confrence and then start a new and then choose the contact from my address book and choose their phone number or mail address which is used for IMessage. Hi, Raul's suggestion is probably the best you'll get, but if you don't want to be dependent on some form of voice activation technology, there is an app called activator that lets you set events to happen based on actions - E.G. volume down up at the same time can be configured to open an app of your choice. I have this set to toggle vo since my home button isn't great; I also use it to put the phone in airoplane mode by shaking it. oddity with jail-broken phone and pwn tunes
This is mainly for raul, or whoever wants it. Hi list. When my phone is connected to my computer and I'm in my itunes music folder, not all my folders are showing up on the computer side. In other words, there's more on my actual phone than what's showing up on the computer. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. It was very clear, however, that scanning in the case meant that the flash was on all the time. And when she took it out of the case voila! no flash unless needed. I'd thought initially on these reports that the case obscured the camera, but it is equally important that it not obscure the light detector, a surprising finding. You'd think that a manufacturer of cases that support using the camera would consider it important to reveal the light detector. It isn't talking about the flash memory, but the RAM available to run the app. When you get that message, you need to first try clearing all the apps from the app switcher. Are you using the Acapella voices, or are you using VoiceOver? Hi, I know I am late on this one, but was the battery drain cause ever identified? I am experiencing a similar drain of the IPhone 4g, but my wife does not on her IPhone 3. although our phones are not totally identical, mostly they are. the apps that we use over the WI FI are the same, but the sta nav apps are turned off. Hi, no I do not. I got it yesterday and played around with it and when I was searching for other free apps today I noticed it was still free. So, it could be a few days, or today could be the last one. I use the News Store app to tell me of apps which are free. It's around 90% accurate meaning that occasionally I'll open an app from it's list only to find out it's no longer free. However I love this Store News app. -- Raul A. Hi, yes, Extensions for Siri relies on Siri, but Voice Activator does not. While Voice Activator requires a bit more customizing, because you basically tell it what command you will say and then what the action is, it means it's more flexible and doesn't rely on Siri. Hope that makes sense. In order for Voice Activator to work, you need the free Activator tweak, which in itself is an awesome tweak. For example I can make it so if I swipe my status bar left it toggles Wi-Fi, and if I swipe it right, it toggles Bluetooth. I can make it so it launches the clock app if I double-tap the time in the lock screen, or I can turn off auto-lock when I connect AC power to the phone, and then turn off auto-lock when I disconnect AC power to the phone. Hi Ben, in addition to Activator, you can get Voice Activator which expands Activator's abilities. There is also Accessible Activator which adds the accessibility toggles for use with Activator. Rename an Apple Wireless Keyboard
I have received a second-hand apple wireless keyboard but it still has the previous owner's name on it. Looking around, it seems one has to use the computer to change the name. I use a PC. However, I do not have bluetooth on it at the moment but gather this is what you need. Perhaps someone can clarify? I still need to look at my wife's phone, but I suspect I know what her issue is and it may be related to either an incident she had or a corrupt install. Moving iTunes to a new computer
Hi all, I just got a new computer and want to move my iTunes and account and all of it to my new computer. It is also going from XP to Windows 7. Headset and VoiceOver
Hi All! I bought a headset, model Plantronics M20. My iPhone connected with it and it works great. Now I can use headset to call, but only to call. The headset works only in speaker mode. Blue tooth headset on a call
My wife and I have an iPhone 4S unlocked and an iPhone 4 locked to ATT. A Bluetooth headset when connected to the iPhone 4 allows me to hear voice over on a call. Connected to the iPhone for ass I cannot hear voice over on a call. Both phones have audio settings identically set. Possibly because the voiceover while on a call is a good bit lower in volume than it is on the IPhone 4? Maybe it is speaking but too low to hear? I'm on a 3GS, I configured a custom action so that Voice Activator will toggle 3G but when I give the command, Sara comes up and starts answering questions I know I didn't ask. Hi: 4square is accessible. You open the app. Bottom right hand side of screen is the check in button. A list of places you are near is brought up. double tap the location, then flick to the right until you see check in. You can then leave a message, a photo, and check in to that location. You can also leave tips for others. For example I checked in to Zaxby's. A tip left by a customer said the cheese bites were good. I tried the cheese bites based on a tip left by another person. Hi. I am hesitant to mention this because im not sure where you can get it, but possibly. I was given this holder last summer which fits the iphone perfectly. it is cloth, hangs from your shoulder, and about waste height is your phone in a little pocked with a clasp, verry easy to get in and out but never detatches when you don't want it to. This is made by a lady who knows nothing about iphones, just makes them as a fun craft. Now maybe just with the idea you can look at amazon or somewhere. You can also find the Check-In button in the bottom middle of the screen, as well as in the bottom right corner. Across the bottom, there are 5 tabs from left to right: friends, explore, an unnamed tab which is where the check-in button is, the lists, and then your personal tab, which will likely have your first name. I haven't done anything with the friends tab or added any friends, since some people that I follow on twitter are also on Foursquare and it seems like duplicate reading to read their updates in both places. If you're really into social networking, you could do this I suppose. I have found the Explore tab to be interesting though, since that will show nearby places that you can get more information on or perhaps even check in to. This makes sense, but I have found that when on the explore tab or in the check in screen for choosing aplace to check into, the list of places refreshes quite regularly, especially if you are traveling about by car or other vehicle. This can be helpful but also frustrating. Several times I have found a place to check-in to but then had to swipe back to it a few times since the list refreshed. If you want to become mayor of someplace, you will have to upload a picture. There are more settings through the site at: www.foursquare.com or the mobile site: m.foursquare.com than you find in the app. For instance, since mayorships don't interest me, I was able to tell the service that I did not want to be notified that I was the mayor of such and such place. Another interesting feature of Foursquare seems to be that it will recommend places for you to visit based on the kinds of places you check-in to, which can be very helpful if you usually use it in a certain area, like near your home. From the site and the Frequently Asked Questions area, I learned all about the kinds of badges you can earn based on what you check-in to. After reading that, I didn't feel as out of the loop when seeing said badges on my Twitter friends timelines. My fiance now laughs at me when she hears the Foursquare icon from my iPhone home screen, since she knows what I'm going to do. She also calls me a nerd, to which I think, Takes one to know one. iGrill (bluetooth thermometer review
Greetings, I do a lot of grilling, and more important, slow smoking of ribs, brisket and pork and other great meats. (It's times like this I feel sorry for the vegetarians out there.) But, one of my biggest problems was getting a meet and grill temperature reading during the cooking process. About a year ago, I noticed a product called iGrill by iDevices Inc. The url is http://www.igrillinc.com/ that had a wireless bluetooth digital thermometer and iPHone/iPod/IPad application. I instantly downloaded the free app, to see how well it worked with voiceover, and was disappointed. Last week, I noticed an update for the app that included a bug fix bullet item reading improved voiceover support. I downloaded the app and checked it out. Things looked very very promising, but I didn't have the hardware. That all changed with a recent UPS delivery. I'm very pleased with their progress, and feel it is a very useable solution with most features accessible, and I'm sharing my review here. I opened the box and it came with a base unit, two temperature probes, and batteries. Without reading a thing, I was able to install the batteries, and plug in the two probes. The front of the unit has three touch sensitive buttons. Not my first choice for a blind user, but they are dimpled and distinguishable. At this point I ran the iGrill application on the phone and listened to the getting started instructions. The three buttons are power and plus and minus The plus being above the minus and the power being to the left of those two. However, other than the power button, the device can be controlled entirely from the iOS application, so you really don't need to worry about the plus and minus buttons on the unit. As instructed by the online documentation accessible via the application, ,I pressed all three buttons to enable the device to pair, and sure enough, in Settings, General, Bluetooth, on my iPhone, the iGrill showed up and could be paired. . The key to this product is in the iGrill application, a free download from the Apple App Store. In the iGrill app, there are Four major button tabs. Cooking, Tools, INfo and Settings. The cooking button is where you have access to the remote temperature probe data. If the device is off an not paired, this section will read not connected. If the iGrill is on, you will see readable data on two probes with current temperature, user defined label, and alarm label. Flicking works perfectly and all data seems easily and quickly accessible. You can rename the two probe labels to anything you wish. Since I smoke, meat, I have one labeled as meat and the other as grill. Logical examples might be fish or chicken. The device comes with two probes designed for food. An ambient temperature probe for grill surface can be purchased separately. What I was stunned and pleasantly surprised to see, was that there are a slew of predefined temperatures for a range of foods that you can pick from that have the right temperature already defined. Want that tuna the right temp, pick tuna. Want a chicken done just right, select chicken. And, you may add your own items to the list. Basically, this is a Label with a target temperature. All totally accessible and properly labeled with voiceover tags. Now, what's nice for the smokers out there, you can also specify a temperature range. Smokers generally like to keep their grill temperature between 225 and 250, and for any probe, you can specify a target temperature or a range of temperatures. The target temp will alarm when the probe hits that temperature. The range temperature will alarm when the temperature goes above or below that range. Both the target and range temperatures work great. My only complaint on the cooking tab is that for both probes you have the option of facebook and twitter buttons. In my opinion, a waste of space. Just because you can integrate easily with social media via the iOS API doesn't mean you should. At the very least, I wish the buttons would go away of you don't have a twittter or facebook account.Maybe they'll read this review and make it a preference. I'll save my diatribe for the insanity of facebook for another post. The Tools tab has three items: Timers, Graph, and Globe. The Timer section allows you to create either count up or countdown timers. Unfortunately, the UI for this feature is not Voiceover friendly. You can create a number of named timers, but picking the time is done through a horrid number of button items. And the granularity is only to the minute, not second. Basically, you have to scroll through page after page of 60 buttons, one for each minute between 0 and 60, plus buttons for hours. It's the craziest UI I've seen for a time entry field. Popup picker items, or simple text field entry areas would have been much more useful as well as voice over friendly. I would say the

Hi Brett, I had a look at the iPhone neck holder and this does indeed sound interesting and it's another relatively inexpensive accessory. I am on a continuous quest for the ideal iPhone case/holder although there is just no ideal for various activities, lifestyles and circumstances. I love my Piel Frama high-end leater case and really liked the belt clip it came with, but after less than 6 months use the snap which the iPhone in its case snaps into has worn somehow to the point that the slightest bump knocks it out of the belt clip. This just got really bad recently and next week I will contact cases.com and see what kind of service I get, this was a $80 case after all. I know at least one or two others on the list had the PIel Frama cases and I am curious if somebody reads this and has one if this happened to theirs as well. In any cas, once you have a bit of experience with your neck holder I hope you will post a bit of a review. I do wonder about one statement they make on their website in describing the holder. They say: •Ride bicycle outdoors safely, listening to music with a separate speaker below each ear (no earphones). This, however, is the only sentence I found that refers to separate speakers with no earphones. Is this something they include? Hard to believe at a price tag of $19.95. Maybe they refer to these bone conducting headphones, can't remember the name right now. I hope to hear more about this, but I think I might just order one of these anyways fairly soon, sounds especially interesting in the summer when you typically don't have jackets or clothing with lots of pockets. After I downloaded and launched it, the app prompted me for my subscriber user ID and security code right away, then presented me with the apps main screen. Looks pretty easy to get around. I wish they would have all of the favorite TV channels displayed in one screen, but good start so far. It will be good to be able to read Newsline content on my phone. This was one of the big apps I was waiting for this year, the other being the NLS app, which will hopefully be out sometime this summer. I got a Google alert a short while ago regarding NFB newsline and it mentioned that there was now an app for the Newsline service for the various i-devices and sure enough, I went to the app store and did a search using the words nfb newsline and it was the first result. I'm in the process of downloading it now. Reading the breif description, it doesnt' say much other than what Newsline is and so on and that the app can only be installed on five devices. I haven't yet, but I'm sure those of us who already use this service are going to have to punch in our six digit code we use to log into the website.
