Hi,
No, you have to browse from the bookstore, and as soon as you download a book
it will show up in your Nook app.

Is it possible to browse the nook book store from the app itself

I don't see any buttons for the store.
It just says I have no books in my library and to check the website to
 browse for books.
Can you not browse the nook store on the app itself?

 Thanks!

RE: notification center using keyboard

2012-12-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chris and others,

Instead of speculating and pointing out you will have to try why not try and
then post the correct information to begin with. Then a simple question
would be answered with a simple answer instead of half a dozen messages
needed to correct the wrong posts. Anyhow, here is the correct info:

As Ryan already pointed out, VO-Key + M will get you into the Status Bar,
not VO-Key + S
The VO-Key is Control+Option on an Apple Wireless keyboard those are the
second and third keys from the left, on the left side of the space bar.

Once you are in the status bar, you use Option+Up Arrow which is also the
command to scroll up one page to activate the Notification Centre. Escape
will take you out and back to the Home Page.

Keep in mind the Vo-Key+K activates keyboard help so if you forget or are
unsure about a key combination you can always activate keyboard help and
press the combination to hear what it is.
If you do this with Vo-Key+S it will tell you Toggle speech on and off and
Vo-Key+M in keyboard help mode says Goes to the status bar.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: itunes Podcast, can someone send me the direct link?

2012-12-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sandy,

I am putting the link below, but just to help you get the second part when
it comes out in January, could you tell me in a direct message what the
problem is you have? If the problem is that instead of downloading the
Podcast starts playing, then Jonathan covers that problem in the first 5 or
so minutes of his original FS Cast from December 2010 about iTunes 10 and
Jaws 12. The problem is that iTunes modifies how files are treated and you
can change this back. Just find episode 49 and listen to the first few
minutes if this is the issue. Instead of pressing enter on the podcast link,
you can also put your virtual cursor on it, then press the application key
or right click on the link with the Jaws cursor, then select Save Target
As and the standard Save As dialogue comes up and after you select the
folder where you want it and click Save it will download.

Alternatively, if you use a Podcast app on your iPhone you can just search
for FS Cast or Freedom Scientific and add the Podcast to your list of
subscribed Podcasts. There is only one a month and you can always delete it
if it is on a topic that is of no interest to you. In any case, it's better
anyways to listen on your iPhone if you want to follow along in iTunes on
the computer while the Podcast is playing. Here is the link:

http://podcast.freedomscientific.com/FSCast/episodes/fscast073-December2012.

Merry Christmas,

Re: Background apps draining battery question

2012-12-22 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Keith,

As I understand it, and app is completely closed if it isn't in the app
switcher, so it can't drain the battery. However, if you set up mail to do
push, for example, it will check for mail frequently, thus using battery. You
might check to see which apps send you push notifications and turn that feature
off for apps you don't care about. Also, some apps check your location
frequently. If you set up a location-based reminder, for example, such as
reminding you to do something when you leave the current location, it will
check frequently to see whether you've left that location.

Change your view back to songs, and the column browser will work as in
previous versions. You had it set to albums, which is a grid that can't be

Hi,

I took the plunge and downloaded iTunes 11.

Initially the Column Browser option was listed under the view menu
(Ctrl-Shift-B), and I clicked it. Not sure what happened when I did this,
but when I went to Music and was tabbing through my albums, arrowing down
went from album to album, but it appeared it was reading only the first
album title from a row, because if I arrowed right, I would get 4 to 5
other album titles before announcing the album title it announced with a
down arrow.,

When I went back to View Menu, and Column Browser, the option was dimmed.

Can someone explain what might have happened, what I might have done wrong,
how I can fix this, and what behavior to expect with Column Browser?

Learning, but slowly.

Thanks in advance. Keith

Re: wireless printer recommendations compatible with i devices and Windows pcs

2012-12-22 Thread Rick Alfaro

Amy,

I'm assuming you are looking for an AirPrint compatible printer? There
are several around and there's a list on the apple support site. I
personally have an HP DeskJet 110d that I picked up last year for $39 on
black Friday. I also have a Laser printer but it isn't AirPrint compatible.

There's an app called Printer Pro that you can run in conjunction with a
desktop application that will make any printer on your network useable
from an iDevice but printing to it isn't as straight forward as it is
with an AirPrint capable printer.

I know HP and Canon and even Kodak have some AirPrint models. Note that
simply being a WiFi printer isn't the same as being AirPrint compatible.
 HTH

Best,

As everyone knows, I am now the proud owner of a new iPhone 5, my
first cell phone ever. I understand from all of you that iTunes is
needed to interface with the iPhone. I use JAWS 14 and have heard
about a program called Blind Tunes, which makes iTunes much more
accessible. I would like to try using blind tunes but it is unclear
which version of iTunes I should use with Blind Tunes.

I have read much discussion here about iTunes, but Blind Tunes is
never mentioned it seems. I would appreciate help in figuring out
what version of iTunes to install and any accessibility add ons,
whether Blind tunes or another program, that would be the easiest to
use on a Windows XP Pro machine running JAWS 14.

Re: Blind Tunes and iTunes

2012-12-22 Thread Andy Baracco
iTunes works pretty well with the latest version of JAWS. in fact, there is
an FSCAST on using JAWS wiht iTunes on the FS site. Blindtunes is a
collection of JAWS scripts that makes it easier to use with iTunes, but you
have to buy it, and the need for it has decreased as the screen readers have
adapted to work better with iTunes. Also, any upgrade to either JAWS or
iTunes breaks the scripts, and you need to then wait for the author of
Blindtues to update them. I just don't feel that Blindtunes is worth the
money. Also, i believe that you have to pay additional for Blindtunes
upgrades.

RE: Blind Tunes and iTunes

2012-12-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Andy,

Since when does John Martin charge for BlindTunes? I think maybe you mix up
BlindTunes and JTunes. JTunes which I am not sure is even kept up-to-date is
a Jaws cript which does cost money, BlindTunes is free at least as far as I
know.

Sieghard

RE: wireless printer recommendations compatible with i devices and Windows pcs

2012-12-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Amy,

There are definitely just printers out there which are Airprint compatible.
Here is a link I found when I googled Airprint compatible printers.
Apparently this list was updated in November 2012. I have an HP C310A and
C410A which are both multi-function and which are not listed, but I assume
that the list isn't complete and possibly focuses more on the newer models.
In any case, it will give you a pretty big list of models from various
manufacturers which you can check out.

http://ipod.about.com/od/usingios4/f/Airprint-Compatible-Printers.htm

Good luck,
