the Seeing Eye GPS App
Hello all, I downloaded the seeing eye app and paid for a year. I listened to the instructions but, no matter what I do, I can’t get it to do anything after leaving my house. I walked a mile and a half and nothing but, a quick mention of Rainbow terrace as I was approaching. I want it to say all streets, intersections, poi and as much info as I can get. Hi, actually no, I don't watch my data carefully. I'm not sure where I gave that impression. The data that most of these kinds of apps use is minimal. So, I haven't even bothered to check on it. I mainly look for how much battery drainage I experience when using an app for 30 minutes when compared to other apps which do similar. From what I can tell, gps apps in general all use a lot of battery power, so this doesn't seem to be any different with Seeing Eye GPS either. I have 10 gb of monthly data to burn through, of which usually only 6 or 7 is reached by the 5 phones on my plan. -- Raul A. The first thing I noticed was how easy it is to use. Virtually nothing needs to be set up and configured with it. It speaks the necessary information about street crossings as you walk. If you are riding in a vehicle and are going relatively fast, then the intersections are suppressed. If you are in a route, it clearly gives turn by turn information and it's very easy to figure out what it means. I'm still not sure if I will continue using it as my primary gps source however, but this isn't through any fault of the app. Prior to trying out this app, I usually use a combination of BlindSquare or Ariadne to know where I am at a given point and Google Maps or MapQuest or Apple Maps for turn by turn directions. Along with those apps, Hop Stop for bus information and Metro Trip for my local bus information. Yes, this is a combination of multiple apps. However quite often I don't need to use more than one at a time. If I'm walking somewhere to get from point A to point B usually Ariadne or BlindSquare is used. I'm not in situations where I need walking directions to get somewhere because usually when I go somewhere I've already got the directions down and I just use non-technical orientation and mobility skills to find what I'm looking for. In a case where a building might need to be found, then Ariadne or BlindSquare is good about telling me what address range I'm in to make sure I'm in the right area. For times when I'm riding in a vehicle, Google Maps is the preferred choice app because its directions are spot on, and because the app gives the necessary information in such a way that both me and my sighted driver can use the information. If I were to rely only on Seeing Eye GPS for driving directions, then I couldn't easily share it with my driver because in most cases I would have to turn down the speech rate of Voice Over and on top of that, it's text only and most sighted people like the visual map elements. Don't get me wrong, I think this app is great and I still feel that for many people it will be better than the alternative apps mentioned above. As a technology trainer myself I will be more than happy to recommend this to some of my clients who might benefit from it. However for me personally I don't think it will be my primary gps app of choice. The one thing which I really like, and like a lot, is its feature of telling you when a street is coming up and if it's a street which spans left and right, or only left or only right. There is the Voyager Pro HD and there is the Voyager Legend. I don't know about the Legend as I don't have one but I do have the Voyager Pro HD. It can play/pause, but not prev/next or FF/rewind. The Plantronics Bluetooth Legend which is a single ear peace lets you play/pause music or Bard Audio books. There is no fast forward or rewind but the audio quality of the Legend is very good. The ear peace also announce the caller and offer you the opportunity to answer or ignore just by saying your choice. this is useful if you use a dog guide or a cane because you talk to your ear peace not press buttons. When you answer an incoming call and you were listening to a talking book, the book will automatically pause if you say answer when you get an incoming call. When your finished talking, just press and hold the button on the boom and when you hear a low pitched beep, then let go and playback will resume where you paused the playback at. The Legend has a second button on the back of the boom. This is your siri button. On the ear peace it's self is a power on/off button and a 9 step volume control with voice announcement of minimum and maximum volume settings. The up/down volume controls on your iPhone will effect the volume of the Legend but in effect, it's like having one volume setting for the ear peace and one for your phone when you haven't got the Legend connected. At first I wasn't that impressed with the Legend. It goes for 69.99 at Amazon.com or 99.99 bucks in most other places. That having been said, the more I use my Legend, the more I like it. They say the Legend is only good for about 30 feet but I've gone much further then that and didn't loose the connection. The ear peace seems to be digital. When listening to a talking book and getting to far away from my iPhone 5s, the braking up sound seems more like digital noise breakup. The Legend lets you connect to 2 devices at once and are labeled phone 1 and I assume, phone 2 such as a business phone. Although I haven't tried this feature, you can put phone one on hold and answer phone 2. Sense I only have one iPhone, I couldn't test this feature but it sure would be a real help if you could keep 2 phones in your pockets and use either one. FYI. I intentionally added the city in which I live and thus, when I am at home, it is there twice. One says my location, the other does not. This enables me to find out the weather in my home town when I am away from home. What's interesting is that the two references to Madison Wisconsin are not always the same because one uses a location near my house, and one uses the air port. Neal, the listing for your town or city gets it's temperature usually from the local airport. I have the same thing setup on my iPhone weather app. We are always a few degrees cooler in the winter and a few degrees hotter in the summer but I also have added my home town, my wife's home town and her sister's in Billings Montana. HI. I've done this before in the native calendar app, or if you have the Fantastical 2 app you could also do it there. So you get the bill paid in time, you may want to set the appointment for several days or even a week ahead of time. There may be specific apps for this purpose, but these have worked for me. How to stop an iPad backing up photos
Hello, I backup my wife’s iPad to my Mac. How can I stop the iPad backing up the photos on it? You may ask why I wish to do this. I already have my Wife’s photos already on my computer as it is backed up to Carbonite. I really don’t want another 12 gig stored on the Mac unnecessarily . Thanks for any advice. Hello, I downloaded something from the iBook store, a book called Bulger on Trial. It shows up in my library in the iBooks app and I can open it. You cannot read iBooks in Voice Dream. iBooks are in a protected format, or maybe its encrypted? Anyway, Voice Cream cannot handle those. It can handle epubs that are not protected, PdFs, RTFs, and several other file formats. Spell Stack, Questions
Hello, I downloaded spell stack, and I am having a few problems understanding exactly how it is played. I do understand that you have a grid of 25 blocks, 5 rows of 5 blocks each. And you have letters that you have to make words out of. I also notice that you have letters that are X out. I am assuming that these are letters that are previously used, but do not know for sure. And when you make yor word, you must build your word from the letters that you have, but must attach to the existing letters. Is this correct? The only fault I see about the app is I wish it had more detailed instructions about how the game is played. I think I am really going to like the game once I understand exactly how it all works. Any clarification or help other players can give me would be greatly appreciated! hi, I have an iTunes/iPhone question. I used 12 days of gifts to download two songs to my iPhone. About a week and a half later I connected to my PC to sync my phone with my iTunes account to add more music. Now that you songs that I had downloaded are gone. Quick kindle question
I tried googling this for a good 30 minutes, and found outdated info (2011.) My question is this...is it possible to sync magazines and newspapers across iPad and the iPhone? Example, if i didn't have my iPad with me, could i download the magazine from the cloud? According to what I found, its forbidden, but that info was 3 years old! Yes you can sync books and magazines accross devices as long as you have them on the same iCloud and the kindle app setup with the same login info. I use my iPhone to get books for my kids. You'll have to go to settings, iCloud and turn on share books accross devices. Can you please explain how Apple keys map to Windows keys? I'm guessing Apple Option key is the Windows Alt key. What does the Apple Command key map to? I'm hoping Apples Ctrl key maps to Windows Ctrl key, but wouldn't mind a clarification. I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard I want to start using, but have been very confused and hesitant about newly trying an Apple keyboard. For example, the instruction to use Command + arrow keys, instead of Ctrl+ Arrow keys would never have crossed my mind. Thanks in advance. iPhone 5 and Apple Wireless Keyboard: "Control" Key not Stopping Speech
Hello, everyone. I am using an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.3 with the Apple Wireless Keyboard. It's my understanding that pressing the "Control" key should stop and start speech. I can't get this toggle to work. My iPhone just keeps on talking. Is this command broken in 7.0.3? Thank you for your help. OK, I purchased and installed Fantastical (2.whatever) so I could set up a repeating event on a "2nd Monday of each Month" event. But I sure don't see any way to do this. How much have you experimented with the custom repeat option? That screen changes based on the choices you make. Leave the first setting in that screen to 1. The next column flick up until it says month. Flick right to where it says something like selecting weeks and double tap. If you still have trouble sorting that screen, let me know. I'll sit down at my computer with Fantastical 2 open where I can go through the steps on my device and type out the steps in detail. If I understand what you're asking, yes. The Kindle app syncs where you are in a book across all your Kindle-capable devices. I'm passing my 4S on to my husband. We have reset everything, and want to set the triple click home setting in case I need to use his phone. We can't seem to find the setting. It's in Settings -> general -> Accessibility. Go to the bottom of this list and set the accessibility shortcut to VoiceOver. It isn't in the voiceOver settings. When you answer an incoming call and you were listening to a talking book, the book will automatically pause if you say answer when you get an incoming call. When your finished talking, just press and hold the button on the boom and when you hear a low pitched beep, then let go and playback will resume where you paused the playback at. The Legend has a second button on the back of the boom. This is your siri button. On the ear peace it's self is a power on/off button and a 9 step volume control with voice announcement of minimum and maximum volume settings. The up/down volume controls on your iPhone will effect the volume of the Legend but in effect, it's like having one volume setting for the ear peace and one for your phone when you haven't got the Legend connected. At first I wasn't that impressed with the Legend. It goes for 69.99 at Amazon.com or 99.99 bucks in most other places. That having been said, the more I use my Legend, the more I like it. They say the Legend is only good for about 30 feet but I've gone much further then that and didn't loose the connection. The ear peace seems to be digital. When listening to a talking book and getting to far away from my iPhone 5s, the braking up sound seems more like digital noise breakup. The Legend lets you connect to 2 devices at once and are labeled phone 1 and I assume, phone 2 such as a business phone. Although I haven't tried this feature, you can put phone one on hold and answer phone 2. Sense I only have one iPhone, I couldn't test this feature but it sure would be a real help if you could keep 2 phones in your pockets and use either one. If you set up a contact, and then enter the multiple e-mail addresses in the e-mail address field, you should be able to do it. Apparently the way it works is to enclose everything in less-than and greater-than signs. Example: , . Double check this tip though. How do you find the custom repeat screen? So far I've not seen it. I'm able to enter an event, but don't know much more than that. I locate the day I want to enter an event on, double tap it and go to new event. I can enter the event and time and alert, but I'm not sure I'm doing it in the most efficient way. Any help concerning not only the repeat feature, but any other features in this app would be helpful. I've read through the help file, and probably need to do that a few more times. Sorry this is such a rambly email. I do use my calendar regularly and think I'll like the app. I'd just like to be more efficient with it. Thanks. God bless! I think it got broken in IOS 7. It worked well in IOS6. Hopefully they will fix it. I have to use a 2 finger single tap to hush it up. Hard to do if it's on the dock.
