Hi all
The rule is any purchases made through the app store on any device 
connected with the same Apple Id results in you only being charged once. 
In-app purchases are no exception.

Hi there. You basically have the right idea. In addition to saying the actual 
word for the comma, and the period, you speak the names of the other 
punctuations. Question mark for ? And exclamation mark for !

When you do this, you will find that the correct punctuation is used. I will 
give you an example of one sentence that comes out and then how I actually 
dictated it.

I really love my iPhone! It is the best thing that happened to me, I am kidding 
of course. Right?

Just make sure that when you leave a voicemail for someone, or actually talk to 
someone, that you don't start speaking the punctuation marks in your sentences. 
I have caught myself doing this. LOL.

I say the words exclamation point, when I want that punctuation mark. Or I say? 
When I want that punctuation mark. So I say the word with a mark on the end or 
point on the end if I need to exclamation or the question

No it is specific to the vertion of the app we have installed. The latest
update witch is 5.0 is completely broken in terms of accessibility, while
the previous release is somewhat accessible.

Hopefully if they listen to our complaints we will get a fully accessible
update. That is what happened with the slacker radio app. For years the
accessibility was just ok then they actually put out  an update  built to
address the issues. I am hopeful we get the issues resolved as this bible
app is one of the best I have found,. Most of the bible apps are completely
not accessible except for bible gateway, and that one frankly does not do
what I want it to do.

This work around will work to read the bible. However if you are doing a
daily reading plan there is no way to get to that. I am just thankful I was
able to sync an older release of the app back to my phone.

Need help with Calendar

Hi all,


I'm still having problems with the calendar. Lets say I'm wanting to enter in 
info for an event on April 16th, so I  double tapp on April 16th then I double 
tap on the add button  then I can enter in  my event info in the edit fields. 
then when I go down to  where it says start and it should say April 
16th,because that's the month and day I'm going to be adjusting the start time 
of the event  but instead it says April 18th. How do I fix this so when I get 
to the start and end times of the month and day I'mentering info in it will say 
the correct month and day?

I'm not sure but somethink might have gotten selected  in the calendar that 
wasn't suppose to get selected  and how do I fix this? Any help would be very 
much appreciated? Take care.

Open the link. After a second or two, there will be a "bookmark" button in the 
bottom center of the screen; double tap that, and there you go. I still wish 
you could save right from a popup menu like Tweetlist, but the developers say 
there is not enough interest. Please, if this is a feature you want as well, 
drop them a note.

I'm not sure. I have never had the app slow down, so haven't had to try this.

Twitterrific questions

Hello list,

 

So I've for the most part been a TweetList4 user, but have gotten frustrated
with its frequent crashing and sluggishness after having been installed for
a while.

I've been trying to get used to Twitterrific and do like it. There are a
couple of things that perhaps I'm missing on or simply don't know how to do
yet.

 

In TweetList4, you could save a link to an article directly to Instapaper
for later reading. I used this feature a lot. I am finding however in
Twitterrific only the options to either save a tweet to Instapaper or to
save it to a Safari reading list. I have Instapaper selected as my mobilizer
option from within the settings. Being able to only save the actual tweet
instead of the article to Instapaper is slightly annoying.

Also, in the help files, there was a section on how to clear the timeline
cache in case the app begins to slow down. I followed the steps, but
couldn't get to the part where I could select the get rid of cache part. I
needed to get my sighted wife to finished the process. Am I perhaps missing
a step or is this aspect inaccessible to voiceover? 

 

Regarding the same about dumping excessive timeline to speed up the app, is
there in fact a way to do this in TweetList4? This and being placed
somewhere else in a timeline at times really are my only complaints with
TweetList4. The only way I've been able to get it to stop crashing on me and
not be so slow is to uninstall and reinstall the app entirely.

I have just taken a look at the app on my iPhone and except for an
unlabelled  button I am not seeing any problems.

If you are adding from an external drive, you want to be careful.
There is a setting in preferences whether to copy files to the default iTunes 
location or not.
If you don't have it  copy them over, and your external drive isn't connected, 
then you will get errors  saying something like invalid location.

Hi,

Unless yo''ve changed the default settings, when you connect your phone to your 
computer, any apps that are on your computer but not on your phone should be 
copied to it. If not, choose the Apps tab in the multi-page dialog box that 
comes up when you connect your phone, and make sure it's set to sync apps. If 
you choose to sync only selected apps, be sure the one you want to sync is 
checked in the apps list.

Plantronics M-50 sound quality is sometimes poor.

Hi all, 
My M-50 headset's sound quality is poor at times, usually after I finish with a 
phone call. I have tried turning the unit off and back on and also tried 
turning it off on the phone. The only way I can restore better sound is to 
reboot the iPhone. 
Has anyone else had this problem and do you have a solution?

Lost cities question.

I don't have the messenger app you are writing about.  I just went into the App 
Store  and typed in facebook messenger and selected the one that says free by 
it.  Since I found that one works good for me I did not bother with the one you

pop up buttons on a web page with safari

regularly.  There is a popup button where I have to make a selection, and
there are over 300 items in that dropdown.  What would be really handy is if
I can open up the item, and hit the first letter of the selection that I'm

Anyone Else Having Problems with Shiprack?

I tried opening my Shiprack app (version 1.8.207) today and can't get the
app to open. It briefly flashes my previously tracked packages with
checkmarks by most of them and then goes dark for a second or two, flashes
the icons on my home page, and then goes to Facebook on Safari where a
message says that my account has already been authorized. There are two
buttons on this page, Not Now and Ok, and regardless of which I execute, the
screens flash as previously stated and I end up back on the Safari Facebook
page. I get this same result when I try opening Shiprack with VoiceOver
turned off.

 

The app has worked previously just fine under iOS 6.1.4 and after I upgraded
to iOS 7.1. I just noticed this inability to launch the app today.

 

What are other Shiprack users experiencing? I've written to Shiprack Support
but I would welcome any suggestions on what to do next if anyone has ideas.

There is a bible APP called Holy Bible plus. It is very nice. I used it
earlier, I liked it. Now since I wanted catholic edition, I switched on to,
RSVCE I love it. Holy Bible Plus is free. Where as RSVCE is not. Cheers Ruby

mlb at 2014

The problems everyone is mentioning  have been evident since the app
rollout. I use a Iphone 4s. I called advanced media (866)800-1275, and they
said they would escalate my comments.

I go to the original mlb.com website which  I saved on my phone homepage. It
is accessible, and it serves as a work around to the at bat reading issues.
The mlb.com site does not let you use the TV or audio, but at least those
two pages seem to be functional on the at bat app.

Hello Jan, what you can do is set your mail to fetch every 15 or 30 minutes by 
turning push off first of all and then your mail will should turn on and work. 
You don't need another account you just have to configure your phone to fetch 
in a different way.

There's one Gmail account I need to keep tabs on and be able to get messages
right away. My work around is to have the official Gmail app on my phone and
to be notified when new emails come in. I also have this account set up in
the native mail app on my phone. When I get the notification from Gmail,
I'll just open the native mail app and refresh manually and access that
email message from within the mail app.

The Gmail app is pretty accessible, but I've found it a bit problematic when
trying to reply to messages and just a bit more clunty than the native mail
app so I really just use the gmail app 

As a push notification and use the native mail app for everything else.

I use Outlook.com and while the Gmail web interface is maybe a bit more
accessible, I use Outlook 2010 and 2013 on my computers anyways and of
course the Mail app on the iPhone. Outlook.com which used to be Hotmail and
then Windows Live is of course Microsoft's email service and they use
Exchange Active Sync rather than IMAP and email, contacts and calendars are
fully supported on multiple devices. Also Push works well and you get email
notifications instantly when an email arrives.

 

Of course changing email accounts can be quite an undertaking and you might
want to try the gmail app for your email rather than the native mail app.

 

By the way, where are you from, sounds like quite a german name.

Hello. I called Apple Accessibility and they're working on it. When they do
a double tap hold and swipe left they can see the delete button in the menu.
However, Voiceover doesn't speak it. It may be and probably is an issue with
the messenger app.

The gesture that you're looking for that is used for the VoiceOver bypass is
Double Tap and Hold. I'm not sure how you  would accomplish the long press
gesture but maybe just the double tap and hold gesture will work on the

Item Chooser Surprize!

Hi all,

You know how there is a safari bug with the latest update to IOS...?  I may 
have found a way around this, and an item chooser surprise.  At least it 
surprised me.  ;)

Did you know once you bring up item chooser via 2 finger triple tap, you can 
then 3 finger swipe left or right to focus on headings, links, form controls, 
or all items?  I had know idea!!!  I just thought I'd give it a whirl, and 
lookie there!  Surprize

Now when you perform a search in Safari, you can bring up item chooser and 3 
finger swipe right/left to only show the headings.

:) IOS doesn't cease to amaze me.

Re: Calendar Replacement

I have been using an app called Week Cal for about the last year and a half. 
Things about it I find particularly useful or the ability to create templates 
for common appointments, that I can have more alerts than the standard app will 
give me, and that the increments for minutes can be set down to one minute 
rather than five. For the record, it is not free. There are a couple of 
unlabeled buttons now, and figuring out which calendar your accessing a given 
moment can be slightly tricky. I use several different calendars, so for me 
that can become an issue. All this said however, I'm still using it, and have 
no plans to change soon.

I did that and when I open windows explorer everything is there under
iTunes media. But when I open iTunes, I see only have the songs that I
know are present in the iTunes media folder.

I use Outlook.com and while the Gmail web interface is maybe a bit more
accessible, I use Outlook 2010 and 2013 on my computers anyways and of
course the Mail app on the iPhone. Outlook.com which used to be Hotmail and
then Windows Live is of course Microsoft's email service and they use
Exchange Active Sync rather than IMAP and email, contacts and calendars are
fully supported on multiple devices. Also Push works well and you get email
notifications instantly when an email arrives.

 

Of course changing email accounts can be quite an undertaking and you might
want to try the gmail app for your email rather than the native mail app.

 

By the way, where are you from, sounds like quite a german name.

Thanks for that.  It does explain what happened.  I have since discovered
that I had the setting to fetch mail manually, so that also caused problems.
I did not know that gmail was not fully supported, and it seemed strange to
me that the phone has to be told how often to look for mail rather than just
receiving it when it comes.  What kind of accounts would one then have to
use for the feature to be fully supported?

Hello, Gmail does not fully support push you need to turn off push an order
for these alerts to work correctly. And the most that you can get pushed
email would be every 15 minutes I hope I've helped you and if you have any

you need to copy the itunes folder from your old computer and paste it in 
your my music folder on your new computer after installing itunes. You do 
not do this until itunes is already installed on the new computer.

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why?  then where does the learning 
start?

I want to move my iTunes library to a new laptop running the latest
iTunes and windows 7.

Using my online backup system, I now have all my music in the music
folder on the new  computer, but only half the music is visible when I
open iTunes. I have a feeling I missed a step, but don't know what. If
someone can clue me in I will be much appreciative.

Hello there. There are two ways to do this. The first way will require your 
real cell phone number to be an authorized forwarding number on your Google 
voice account. as long as your cell phone number is an authorized number in 
your account, go to settings inside GV connect. There is a section which is 
labeled start calls from. When you double tap this section you can choose 
various options. If you choose your iPhone number what will happen is that as 
you make a call, GV connect will negotiate the phone call and you will receive 
an incoming call into your real cell phone number. When you answer this 
incoming call, your outgoing call will be placed through. As far as your cell 
phone is concerned, you just received an incoming call from your Google voice 
number. As far as the person you are calling is concerned, you just gave them a 
call and the caller ID shows that you were calling from your Google voice 
number.

The second way is similar, however instead of choosing your cell phone number 
as the callback number, you can choose direct dial. What will happen is that 
when you make a phone call from GV connect, it will use a temporary and random 
assigned number from Google to make the outbound call. This temporary outbound 
number is what Google has assigned for that particular number that you were 
calling. As long as you call this number, your phone call will appear to come 
from your Google voice number rather than you real cell phone number. In fact 
what you can even do is take it a step further and if you want, you can make 
phone calls outside of GV connect or you can send text messages outside of GV 
connect from your iPhone, for example from the phone app or the messages app. I 
use the word temporary, but what I should say is custom. Using these custom 
Google assigned numbers you can create alternate contacts. What I usually do is 
if I have a contact name John Smith, create another contact named John Smith 
GV. This contact is the one with the Google assigned random number. If I text 
John Smith to this number or call John Smith at this number, it appears as if 
it is coming from my Google voice number rather than my real number.

I know I said that I had two ways, but there are actually three. This last 
method however will not work after May 15 this year using GV connect. This 
involves the use of another app called talk a tone which is free from the app 
store. You must download and install talk a tone and configure it with your 
Google voice account. Once that is done, you are all set. From GV connect 
settings in the callbacks section choose Google talk instead of a phone number. 
There is an option to enable talkatone. Now when you make a call from GV 
connect, it will use talk tone as the carrier. This will not use your cell 
phone minutes. It will use data. You can do this on Wi-Fi or cellular data. 
Again, this method will not work after May 15 this year.

Hi

Thanks for that.  It does explain what happened.  I have since discovered that 
I had the setting to fetch mail manually, so that also caused problems.  I did 
not know that gmail was not fully supported, and it seemed strange to me that 
the phone has to be told how often to look for mail rather than just receiving 
it when it comes.  What kind of accounts would one then have to use for the 
feature to be fully supported?

I wrote MLB support and they are aware of the scoreboard issues and plan a fix 
in May.
If they get a lot more feedback about what folks are experiencing, it might 
help them either fix it once and for all, or maybe even get it fixed sooner.

MLB At Bat's Scoreboard

My problem is that I can't access any of the news articles for my team.  I
can see the headlines, but when I double click on them I get bounced to
either settings or into scores.  Not helpful at all.

Hi,

Bluetooth keyboards definitely work with iOS 7.1. I use mine every day. There 
is a bug when in an edit box, if you press the control key by itself to stop 
speech, you have to then press and release both the control and option keys 
together to get the keyboard functioning properly again. The simplest 
workaround is not to use the control key by itself in an edit field.

Unfortunately, before this bug was understood, it was thought that bluetooth 
keyboards did not work. This is not true.
