I am using a Focus 14 Blue Braille display with an iPhone 5. Can I have a
bluetooth headphone, a bluetooth QWERT keyboard and the Focus 14 Blue paired
with the iPhone at the same time? Ideally, I would like to take notes on the

I have an additional question which may be a bit off topic. But can I use the
Focus 14 blue paired with a PC in the same room with the iPhone to which it is
also paired?

I don't quite understand the limitations of bluetooth pairing, and I appreciate

Re: Forwarding a text message to someone

2014-04-12 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Go into the conversation from which you want to forward the specific message
and flick to the specific message you want to forward. If the rotor is not on
"actions", turn the rotor to "actions". Do a one-finger flick downward to get
to "more" (or maybe that is considered a swipe?). Double tap. Flick right past
delete and you will find forward. Double tap forward, fill in where you are
sending it, and send it.

Is there a way that you can get Siri to read the whole text to you rather
than arrowing through each line? With the keyboard on the computer I can use
the insert down arrow and it will read everything without me having to arrow
through each line. Can you do this the same way with the blue tooth

Re: Does This Bluetooth Headset Exist?

2014-04-12 Thread Gmail
I own the LG HBS700, which can do everything you want and more besides. Its a
great headset, and the in-ear earvuds are, in my opinion, the most comfortable
out of all the ones I've tried so far. This headset is a stereo model which
hangs around the neck. When not in use, the earvuds can be stored away on the
pods which are on either side of your neck, near the collar bone bones. Be sure
to get the 700 model, not the 730 model, as the 730 model, although being an
upgrade, is purported to not work well with VoiceOver, to say nothing of
working mess well overall, which is reflected in the products poor Amazon
reviews.

Thanks,
Ari

RE: App Update on Phone- what about iTunes on PC?

Thanks- I'll recheck those settings, but think they're OK because the apps
are apparently updating when I sync the phone- just as a smart fellow named
Alan said :)

Cher, iTunes has various sync settings and I'm not a big fan of automatic
updates over wi-fi and still prefer plugging my phone to my computer using
its USB cable but I realize I'm a bit of a dinosaur. Just make sure you have
your sync settings to include apps if you want to have backups on your
computer of original apps and subsequent upgrades you get on the phone.

If you don't sync your phone to your computer using iTunes, the apps
obtained through your phone have no way of getting to the computer and will
become outdated. The various versions of an app are named containing the
version number in the filename so that any synced to your computer should be
in the Mobile Applications subfolder.

RE: Netatmo Rain Sensor has been released

2014-04-12 Thread Bobby Druesedow
Hello Seighard:

I have ordered my rain gauge as well. I do have a question though. I have
updated Netatmo on my iPod, but not on my iPhone. On my iPod with the newest
version, it shows no data available for minimum and maximum outdoor
temperature. My iPhone with the older version of the app still shows these
two readings correctly. Have you noticed anything like this after your
update?

Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2014 1:41 PM
To: viphone@googlegroups.com
Subject: Netatmo Rain Sensor has been released

Hello Netatmo Weather Station Users,

Just thought I let you know that the Netatmo rain sensor is now available.
You may have seen a recent update to the Netatmo app and if you checked the
"What's New" you would have seen that the main item was support for the new
rain sensor.

This means you can now have the weather station which consists of the main
indoor module and 1 outdoor module, you can add up to 3 more additional
indoor modules and now the rain sensor. The indoor module measures current
indoor temperature, minimum and maximum temperature for the current day
(from 12:00 AM until 11:59 PM), indoor humidity, CO2 level and noise (sound
meter is only on the main indoor module, it is not supported for the
additional indoor modules).

The outdoor module measures current temperature, Feels Like temperature,
minimum and maximum temperature, humidity and pressure. It also gives an air
quality value, but that is accessed from official air quality sensors so
depending where you are it may or may not be accurate.

Now that the rain sensor has been added the weather station is another step
to being more complete, as far as I know Netatmo will be releasing an
Anemometer (wind sensor) later this year or next year.

The rain sensor, just like the additional indoor modules, is $79, shipping
to Canada was $17 and I think in the States it is $8. If you already own the
weather station and have the app you can order right from there. I
discovered a button one swipe to the right of the "Last Updated" field,
Voiceover reads it as "PluvioMeterStation" button. Not sure what if anything
this means, but if you tap it you are taken to a page which starts with
"Rain Gauge for the Netatmo Weather Station", there is a Close button at the
top right and information about the rain gauge including a message that says
you can preorder it and that it will be shipped within 15 days.

It also then says that it is in stock, that you can add 1 rain gauge to a
Netatmo Weather Station and it gives the price and an "Add to Cart" button.

I went through the ordering and check-out process easily, everything is
fully accessible and you can pay via Amazon EasyPay, PayPal or credit card.

Now, the warning I should give is that I have not yet spoken to Carlos, the
head developer, as to whether the readings from the rain gauge are
accessible for Voiceover users. I have emailed him and once I get a reply
I'll of course report what he said. I also ordered my rain gauge and provide
more feedback once I have it and connected it to my station. I am quite
certain that given Netatmo's commitment to accessibility that the
information from the rain gauge is or will be accessible, but for those who
want to be careful it might be a good idea to wait.

Regards,

Sieghard

Does This Bluetooth Headset Exist?

2014-04-12 Thread Alan Lemly
I'm looking for a bluetooth headset to use with my iPhone 5 and don't care
whether it's a single ear or both ears set but I do want it to have the
following features:

1. A2DP compatible so it works with VoiceOver.
2. Controls similar to what is found on the wired earpods including a
remote button, volume buttons, and a microphone. Since my phone is in my
pocket most of the time, having access to a remote button allowing movement
between tracks and rewind and fast forward capability is critical.
3. A decent sound. I will be using this primarily to listen to books
but will also use it to listen to music and make calls.

I already have a Plantronics M50 Bluetooth headset but I don't think it has
a remote button that allows starting and stopping of audio and rewind and
fast forward of items playing.

Can anyone suggest a headset containing the above features that you can
recommend? Thanks in advance.

Hi Terrie,

You can certainly pair all sorts of different Bluetooth devices with the
iPhone at the same time. For example, You could pair and use a Bluetooth
headset or speaker and also pair and use a Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard (I do
it all the time). I also have a Garmin GLO GPS receiver and it can work
simultaneously and while I don't have a Bluetooth braille display, I am
quite sure you could pair and use it also along with a QWERTY keyboard.

As for pairing the Focus 40 with your iPhone and a PC, that is OK, but of
course it will only work with one device at a time. The same would apply to
a QWERTY keyboard, whichever device you connect last is the one which gets
to use it unless you have something like the Logiteck K810 or K811 which can
be paired with up to 3 devices and you simply use F1, F2 and F3 to switch
between devices.

Sieghard

I am using a Focus 14 Blue Braille display with an iPhone 5. Can I have a

with the iPhone at the same time? Ideally, I would like to take notes on the
QWERTY and look at the braille display to see what I am writing.

I have an additional question which may be a bit off topic. But can I use
the Focus 14 blue paired with a PC in the same room with the iPhone to which
it is also paired?

I don't quite understand the limitations of bluetooth pairing, and I
appreciate your help.

Re: BlueTooth Connectivity Question

2014-04-12 Thread Alex Hall
As I understand it, yes, the three devices should work in concert just fine.
No, you cannot pair the Focus to an iPhone and PC at the same time, it is one
or the other.

RE: BlueTooth Connectivity Question

2014-04-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,

Sieghard

Netatmo Rain Sensor has been released

2014-04-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,

Sieghard

RE: Is it possible to select text by Heading, or any other way that is more than just by line?

2014-04-12 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
That worked like a charm! Thanks.

I hadn't realized one first needed to select some text before the Edit option
appeared in the Rotor, and then once that happened, one could Select All at
that point.

Hi,

If what you're selecting is long, it might be easier to use Select All, copy it
where you want it, and then delete the parts you don't want. Select All is one
of the choices when you set the rotor to Edit.

Re: App Update on Phone- what about iTunes on PC?

2014-04-12 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I'm no expert on this, but there's also the transfer purchases option in
the iTunes menus. I get prompted to do this occasionally by iTunes when
performing a backup or getting ready to update my iPhone.

This probably isn't the case, but you'll also need to be using an
authorized PC and the same Apple ID you used when you purchased the apps.

If you don't sync your phone to your computer using iTunes, the apps
obtained through your phone have no way of getting to the computer and
will become outdated. The various versions of an app are named
containing the version number in the filename so that any synced to
your computer should be in the Mobile Applications subfolder.

I usually update apps on my phone- so do the apps in iTunes on the PC
get out of date when I update this way? Thanks for clarifying :)

If you plug in the Square Card Reader and then turn on your Bluetooth
headset sound should come through the headset. This works with any wired
headset so it should also work with anything else you plug into the headset.

For example, if you listen with a Bluetooth headset or Bluetooth speaker and
plug in a wired headset, then the sound switches to the wired headset.
However, if you turn off your Bluetooth headset or speaker while the wired
headset is plugged in and then turn it on again, sound switches back to the
Bluetooth device.

I tried using it with a splitter in the past and found that it did not work.
Plugging in the square also turns off communication with bluetooth

Some questions about VoiceOver accessibility

2014-04-12 Thread Hyongsop Kim
Hello, I'm blind and app accessibility tester.
Before I give some feedback to app developers, I have some questions.
1. VoiceOver supports container. And in some app, one container has a their
own title.
But I'm wondering that this is container title or not.
If I go to mail app, open one mail, focus to message, VoiceOver says
message. Is this container title? What should I say this properity? Because
I can give feedback after get to know the correct name such as VoiceOver
hint.
2. in a html web page, if I wnat to hide contents, I can use aria-hidden.
But in application, how to hide some contents? Because in some layer popup
VoiceOver reads layer and original contents mixed and it is very confusing.
So is there any way to hiden original contents while layer popup is
appeared?
Thank you very much for your replies.

Screen curtain is a setting that allows people to not see what is on your

Re: List Recorder: CAF to MP3?

2014-04-12 Thread Gish Bart
*CAF(Core Audio Format)* is an audio file format developed by Apple in
2005, and is supported by Mac OS X 10.4 and higher, and iOS 5.0 and higher.
This format is designed to overcome limitations of some older audio file
formats, such as AIFF and WAV. CAF format uses 64-bit file offsets to break
the 4GB file size limitation, so it can save hundreds of years of audio in
one file. CAF supports compressed audio codec like AAC, MP3 and ALAC, so it
uses less disk space than AIFF. What's more, CAF supports unlimited
channels and metadata.

Follow the below guide to have a try:
http://faasoft.com/articles/caf-to-mp3.html.

Re: apple IDs and authorizing computer

You probably should establish a separate account on the OS of the
computer you are using.

At 04:52 AM 4/11/2014, you wrote:

their apple id?
In both cases the libraries are empty, it is just an exercise. I
need to sign in many people, so each person is going to use their
apple account, and create their own configuration using their apple
id. Please don't worry about libraries, I have this part under
control. My problem is just when I authorize a computer and someone
else needs to use their apple id. iTunes doesn't want to deauthorize
my computer and later authorize the same computer for some body else.

Thanks

Is the problem with total deterministic use an accessibility issue or just an
issue with the application?

I wouldn't judge Apple too harshly based on how much effort they put into
making an application running on a competitors platform accessible. They do
this to sell more iPhones and not to help more people buy PC's. I know many
don't agree with me, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple stops supporting
iTunes on the PC altogether. You don't need iTunes nearly as much as you used
to to use your iPhone. Furthermore, you could always just buy a Mac, and I
think people will be making their laptop/desktop choices more on how they
interact with their other devices than the other way around.

Hi Neil and Cheryl,

There is no way to get music or other content on the iPhone without
jailbreaking. Yes, you can put music into a Dropbox folder and the Dropbox app
will actually play music files or there are any number of apps which might do
so and which you can use to play music.

Personally I would advise your friend to deal with iTunes if she wants
to get the most out of her iPhone or other iDevice. I think there are still
people who have this perceived fear of iTunes and that it’s not very accessible
whereas in fact it is very accessible and just a matter of learning. I
sometimes wonder about all the hoops people jump through to do something which
would be much easier with iTunes.

If you plug in the Square Card Reader and then turn on your Bluetooth headset
sound should come through the headset. This works with any wired headset so it
should also work with anything else you plug into the headset.

For example, if you listen with a Bluetooth headset or Bluetooth speaker and
plug in a wired headset, then the sound switches to the wired headset. However,
if you turn off your Bluetooth headset or speaker while the wired headset is
plugged in and then turn it on again, sound switches back to the Bluetooth
device.

I am not sure how Bluetooth headphones will work. However, I can say that I
have used my Bluetooth brill display with the Square card reader last year.

Hi Scott,

When you plug something into the earphone jack on your phone, it switches from
Bluetooth.

There is a message in the archives from a while back about using square. I
have one, and I have used it, but it’s a little tricky to use. I had more
trouble with the signature screen than anything.

Hello,

Is the app for the Square Credit Card reader accessible with Voice Over? I
know that it plugs into the earphone slot but I would think that you could use
Bluetooth earphones with it and be able to use VO.

Thanks,

Scott Duck

Re: Braille inconsistencies With Voice dream Reader

2014-04-12 Thread Brett
No, Downloads is the name of the app. It will read word and rtf docs, among
others. It does keep your place.

Cheers,
Brett.

Re: iTunes Non-Accessibility - Was: Is there an app that copies mp3 files from dropbox to the iPhone

2014-04-12 Thread Kimber Gardner
iTunes is much more accessible with more recent versions of Jaws. Also
there are now scripts that make iTunes even more accessible though I
don't think they are written for versions as old as Jaws 10.
