Re: Audible and safari
I used audible with Safari and was able to use it very well. I had to play around with it a while to know exactly what to do get my books, but I was able to do it without an problems. Hi, It won’t really even come up on my computer. I have never had a problem navigating it when it did though. I’m sure I’ll figure out the problem eventually. I only brought it up here because ordering on the iPhone is so easy and just requires fewer steps, thus faster. Re: Advantages/disadvantages with portrait and landscape on the IPad Mini Retina
Hi, Interesting, that was the advise i got from the list to use a big ipad in landscape mode and that's where the swiping became a serious problem. Because the screen was so big i managed to go off course when i swiped and thus the gestures i tried to make were interpreted wrongly by the IPad. /Krister 3 aug 2014 kl. 02:43 skrev Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca: Krister, The main difference is that as far as I know an iPad Mini in portrait mode does not display things in a left and right screen area/container. For instance, normally on an ipad the Settings app (just using that as an example) shows the main categories on the left side and if, for example, you double tap on General, you then see all of what is under General on the right side. If you put an ipad Mini in portrait mode it will display/look like on an iphone which means if you double tap General the main Settings categories disappear and will be replaced with what is under General. As to what is better would depend on each user and on how you get used to it and in the end you have to make that choice. I think I would probably use an iPad Mini more in portrait mode like my iPhone whereas I prefer to use a full-size iPad in landscape mode. Re: Important help with mail!
Sieghard is probably right, but last I knew, Road Runner was still using POP3. It might be the case that you checked your email from another system, downloaded the messages to that system and then had them deleted from the server. Re: Pre-orders now open for iOS 8 Without the Eye
Hi Rose, very sorry to hear you're having problems setting up a Pay Pal account. The good news though is that it's not necessary to have a Pay Pal account to buy through Pay Pal. There is an option to enter your credit card number, and a good number of people are purchasing that way. With this method there is no captcha to complete or anything like that. These steps should work on most sites that accept Pay Pal but I'll try and offer a step-by-step for purchasing iOS 8 Without the Eye. Here's how it should work. Choose the add to cart button on the Mosen Consulting site. You'll then be taken to a page verifying your purchase. Be sure to verify the quantity is correct, particularly if you've tried unsuccessfully to purchase before. Activate the button labelled Make Payments with Pay Pal, it's fast, free and secure. You're then taken to Pay Pal's site. Navigate past the log-in form for Pay Pal, since you don't have a Pay Pal account his is irrelevant. Then you'll find a button labelled pay with a credit or debit card, or bill me later. Activate that button. You're then taken to a standard credit/debit card form which is fully accessible and has no captcha. If you have trouble, and and you'd like me to help, please feel free to use the contact form on the website, and we can organise a time for me to call you and take your credit card number. Obviously that applies to anyone having issues. Hope that's of some help. RE: Pre-orders now open for iOS 8 Without the Eye
Well, may try in a few days but for now not happy about nothing on that sight working. I know that unless I can get the iPhone app to work better, I won't be applying for an account, I have been using the PC, maybe my mistake but it has a real keyboard so faster for me. It falls into line with the past couple of months, nothing is easy, nothing quite works the way I expected. It is one reason I am not willing to put Firefox on this computer, my cousin put Chrome on, and when he told me I told him not to open it or I'd have problems later. He was in a huff about it. I use IE at work, have used it since it came with Windows whatever version and I pretty much know how it works. I use Jaws always as up to date as it can be, have since I bought it in 1998, it isn't like I don't know how to use it and on that guest page, I read from top to bottom with virtual and Jaws cursors and found no reason why the info I entered should not have been accepted. After the past week if I were into it I'd say it is a conspiracy to keep me from spending one dime even though I have more than that in my accounts. They need to make security accessible with alternatives that work for everyone, not just those with eyes to see it with. I thought I had an account, but it does not work and I suppose maybe I could use the one my husband had, might work if only I knew the password for it but someone night get suspicious since he is no longer on my bank account. Kind of difficult for him to use his account since he passed in May. Good thing I guess since he can't spend on more junk. I will always maintain that if a CAPTCHA is of necessity then there needs to be a solid reasonable way for someone who can't read it to be able to use an alternative that isn't difficult to use. I don't care what browser is used, it should have an alternative. There are lots of elderly persons out there on the internet that can't see enough to read those things, what do they do whether they use magnification software, screen readers or large monitors. Don't get me started, I have one very difficult time getting Google's audible to work, it was so fuzzy it took weeks before I finally got a code I could type in fast enough not to generate another one and it was more dumb luck than skill that finally got me in. Great search engine, no customer support that I know of, no way to let them know one can't understand the audible they provide. Rose, Many sites, including Google, have an alternative way which is to have a text sent to your phone with the code. I have used this method several times for different things. That option is usually listed below the visual and audio codes. Re: Pre-orders now open for iOS 8 Without the Eye
To respond to Rose's comment about partially sighted people, I am someone who is losing my vision and I can tell you that it is no pleasure to navigate these sites with the vision I have left. Most people that I know who are partially sighted try to use whatever vision they have and it really is not that much help to magnify the print, even many times. My complaint is that most sites are not organized well so that it can be difficult to find the information you need to make the purchase and when you call customer service, often I end up in tears. So basically, as someone who is partially sighted, I have the options to get sighted help which is something I try not to do, give up on the purchase or spend a lot of time navigating the site yourself or on the phone with customer service. That is why I gave up my audible subscription and now only get books from bard or book share which I have found are sites that I can navigate without assistance. My suggestion to Mr. Mosen would be to put the information and a link to pre order his book at the very beginning of his site so that Partially sighted people don't need to navigate to the consulting store tab to order the book. Making things as easily findable as possible for the partially sighted community would be a help, especially for those of us who did not grow up with assistive technology and have to learn it as adults. I had it out with paypal the other day because suddenly they wouldn't let me log in. They said it was because of my email address. I said I was not about to change it so they better give me another reason. It is a gmail address and some sites seem to have an issue with them. So I changed the way I wrote my password, not the pass word but how I wrote it; and they seemed to be satisfied. But that is just ridiculous. And yes, captchas are just a bear and they don't give you the option like gmail does, to have the code texted to you. So I understand the frustrations. RE: Pre-orders now open for iOS 8 Without the Eye
Yes, and when it gets to my phone it reads out a huge number that I have no way of figuring out in time to reenter it. Just had this problem with the bank a couple of weeks ago, some 10-digit code that read millions, thousands etc. and by the time I set for Characters and managed to get back to the spot where those numbers were the code expired and I had to start all over again. My phone then reset itself from characters to headings for some reason and after about 9 tries I finally got the number entered in the computer so I could access the account from it again, new computer for me. It should have taken a couple of minutes and it took me 45 minutes to get this done. I was once very good with the phone, now, it seems to take my mind forever to figure out what I need to do when, stress I hope. Re: Zagg Folio for iPad Mini
Hello Crystal. I think that it is the same keyboard that I have. On the right side toward the front there are two switches. The slide switch is the power on/off. In front of it is a button you push in. Hold it for about two seconds and you should be in pairing mode. Be sure to power on the keyboard first. Be sure to turn on quick nav with the lift and right arrow keys. To activate a button press the up and down arrow keys together. One disadvantage is that there is no auction key so I use the regular jesters to start and stop voiceOver reading. Left and uparrow together move you back through the router functions, up and right arrow move you forward through the router functions. Press the up or down arrow to move by the chosen router setting. The FN key is on the far left. Using it in combination with the arrow keys does the page up page down home and end. on the top row going from left to right are: Apple Homekey, lock and unlock key, Siri, and ten function keys. The second row is the number keys and the 1 is a skinny key. The letter q is a little larger. Haven't figured out the caps lock key I thought that you hold down the fn key and tab but that doesn't seem to work.. If there is a way to have a VO key I haven't found it so it would be wonderful if someone else knows how to do this. Hope this helps. Re: Advantages/disadvantages with portrait and landscape on the IPad Mini Retina
I believe the best way to find out which is best for your needs would be to go down to the store and ask them to show you the various iPads. The person assisting you may or may not know about voice over in which case you can explain that all that it requires is to hold down the home key and wait for the tone and say, turn voice over on. You do the same thing to say turn voice over off. The sails person should be happy to comply with your request. See for yourself the difference between portrait and landscape modes. Of course in this way, the user, that's you can see how much more can be shown on the various screens. Personally, I like the iPad Air. It's big enough screen should be easier to view for some high partials and for the totally blind fewer errors are made as the screen offers larger icons so that even fumbled finger guys like myself can manage things much better even in a moving vehicle. PayPal Mobile Site Now Worse Than Ever With the Change Payment Option

Isn't this what accessibility is all about, access for everyone? Don't get me started, I have one very difficult time getting Google's audible to work, it was so fuzzy it took weeks before I finally got a code I could type in fast enough not to generate another one and it was more dumb luck than skill that finally got me in. My late husband had trouble reading it also and give up on it long before I did. They left me no way to communicate the difficulty. Great search engine, no customer support that I know of, no way to let them know one can't understand the audible they provide. I mostly use it for this account and my searches, have no real interest in trying other features that may make me encounter that process again. I should not have to have a specific browser, one I don't personally trust all that much, and a specific plug-in, a plug-in, yes but it should work with any browser. I should not have to figure out how to get the image to some site that no longer works, and if websites wish to keep doing this they should be paying for solutions, not me. It is my right to have access,. OK, I am off the soapbox for now. It is a hot button for me, has from its conception and implementation. I understand security but it needs to work for every person not just those who can see the graphic and manage to get it in fast enough for it to be accepted. Re: Advantages/disadvantages with portrait and landscape on the IPad Mini Retina
Hi, Nope, that is not true, the left and right display for container is also display on the portrait mode as well. As far as what is the different, well, that is really come to personal preference as well as how you want to display the information. Take mail for example, same container with the idea of left and right screen. With portrait mode, you might able to display say, 10 emails on a page, but you might only able to display one or two lines for each message. But, with lanscape mode, you might only able to display 4 to 5 message on a page, but you get say, one or two full sentence instead of one or two line. if that make sense. Also, of course, if you have a bt keyboard, or a keyboard case, having it on lanscape mode will make more sense as it will be how you will have your keyboard set up. For me personally, i got mine lock on portrait mode for 80% of the time, and unlock it if i'm watching videos or viewing photos etc. Joanne Chua The flip side of Inclusion is Exclusion. As to what is better would depend on each user and on how you get used to it and in the end you have to make that choice. i just bought All Football Radio by JJACR Apps. It is on sale for $0.99. I went through all the Buffalo Bills stations and none of them worked, but the first one for the New York Giants works. The more amazing thing is that the play by play is within about one secnd or less of the TV broadcast, so my wife can watch the game and I can listen and not be hearing different plays than what she sees. Re: Kristeen - A question about the Mac Mini
I'm not Christine, but I have a Mini. 1. Yes, all Macs have VoiceOer built in, so long as they have OS 10.4 or later. In other words, any Mac you buy nowadays, and back to 2005 I believe, will have it. 2. No, not anymore. They used to have disk drives, but have not for a few years now, just like the Macbook and iMac lines. Disk drives are going away, and I find that I only rarely miss having one, not even often enough to make me pick up a USB disk drive. 3. No, the Mini is a small computer tower. It has no screen, keyboard, or mouse, though it does have a small internal speaker. It is meant to be connected to all necessary peripherals. If you're after an all-in-one solution, a Macbook might be better for you. The iMac is also an option; it has the tower and screen in one unit (though it is not a touch screen). No Mac currently offers a touch screen, only iOS devices do that. For the blind especially, though, a trackpad is just as good, since it lets you feel around the screen and perform familiar VO gestures to navigate and perform other actions. Re: iTunes Radio troubles
Once you have found a station and double tapped on it and maybe had to double tap again to get it playing, then there will be an add to favorites button in the upper right and an exit the now playing screen button in the upper left. To 'delete a station, double tap on the my profile tap along the bottom of the screen, then there is an edit button in the upper right corner that you double tap on and then you will have the option to delete or move the stations in your favorites. Re: Kristeen - A question about the Mac Mini
One thing I forgot to say is that the Mini is the least expensive Mac you can find, at least new. Minis start at $600, whereas the cheapest Macbook starts at $900, and iMacs are $1099, I think. That said, if it's your primary computer, I can't recommend a Macbook highly enough. They are so small and light that they're easy to take anywhere, and nothing beats having your entire computer with you when you need it. Seeking Tiny Bluetooth Keyboard Recommendation

I just measured the Quirty keyboards on both my Samsung Blackjack 2 and my beloved Samsung Epix, running Windows Mobile 6.x, and they are approximately 2 inches across (horizontal axis) and 1 inch high (vertical axis). Re: Kristeen - A question about the Mac Mini
How expensive the peripherals are is entirely up to you, though. My monitor is just an old one we had sitting around, and I've seen monitors well below $100 if you have to buy one new. A keyboard is as low as $12 from Wal-Mart or similar locations, and you don't need a trackpad at all. They're nice, and run about $60 if you want one. The official Apple wireless keyboard is also $60, so you could spend $800 total on the low-end Mini (assuming an eighty-dollar monitor and no speakers), but you could also get away with $650, conceivably. All that said, I would still prefer the Macbook over the Mini, though that depends on your use case I suppose. Re: Seeking Tiny Bluetooth Keyboard Recommendation
I agree that this is your best bet. Laying on top of my iPhone 5, it is the same with and comes up to the bottom of the earpiece, so is just short of length by 3/4 inch? It has all keys, is a little strange in some of the punctuation, but easily adoptable. But it does have all function keys useful on an eye device. It also has markings you would expect on F and G keys. The keypresses feel solid and battery life is excellent. e On Aug 3, 2014, at 10:59 PM, Teresa Christian synergydra...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Mark, I have the RII keyboard that is 3 by 5 inches, not as small as you described but still pretty little and will fit nicely in a pocket.
