Anybody Using iFunBox

2014-08-25 Thread Bill Gallik

Well Gang;

Now that I've worked out my difficulties with iBackup BOT I'm trying another
Windows application that purports to be able to turn the iPhone into
essentially a USB flash drive (at least this one is free). Supposedly, this
program will permit one to peruse the iDevice file system as if it were a
flash drive, but I'm finding it quite inaccessible.

I'm wondering if anybody in this list has used iFunBox and whether or not
there is some procedure to render the program out of the advertising screen
and propel it into the work windows that would allow me to search the file
system of my iPhone 5?

Anybody? Anybody at all?

The subject says it all. I know absolutely nothing about downloading ring
tones. Not even sure I want to try it, but someone said zedge was easy to
use. That person was a sighted android user, so I'm just wondering if it's
a good way for me to get ringtones should I decide to do so. I checked on
AppleVis and couldn't find much information about Zedge. Maybe I wasn't
looking in the right place. In any case, Thanks for any info.

Hi. I'm interesting in receiving text alert messages regarding my local
weather forecast messages and severe weather alerts. I have tried
subscribing to the weather channel for there text alerts from both of my i
phone devices and I am unable to get a confirmation reply so that I can
start getting them. It works on the nokia phone that I have but I want to
get them from one of my i phones. If anyone knows where else I can receive
weather text alerts besides the weather channel please let me know or if
anyone has any other suggestions that I can try I'd appreciate them as well.

Re: Facebook app newsfeed

2014-08-25 Thread Feliciano G
I have a workaround for this, but it involves turning off voiceover. If you
have a voiceover as a accessibility shortcut to where you can triple click
home, this will be easy. When you encounter this type of status on the Facebook
application, double tap the status to where it is selected. Then you must turn
off voiceover, then tap the screen once in the middle of the screen. After you
have done that, turn on voice over and you should be inside of the status.

Re: Still Having iPhone 5 Recharging Issues

2014-08-25 Thread Donna
Hi

Actually, Apple has previously reported a problem associated with the charging
ports on the iPhone 5. By contacting Apple you should be able to get this
repaired free, if your iPhones serial number falls within the lot of serial
numbers which has been traced to certain iPhones having this charging problem.
Apple has setup a repair program for the power/lock button, the charging port
and most recently, the battery, all of these problems being associated with the
iPhone 5.

Sorry I can't provide a link. If you call Apple support or do a Google search,
I'm sure you will find more details.

When you see the so and so commented on this, the latest update to the app
lets you sit on the entry, for a sec, and it then reads what has been
commented on. Hope that helps. Just once you read it sit there for a sec and
it should read it. Thanks. Take care.

Re: Adapters for iPad?

2014-08-25 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

You need the iPad camera connection kit which includes a SD card
reader & a USB port. Keyboards appear to work without any issues
although mass storage can be a bit flakey - writing isn't possible but
reading *usually* is. Probably best to find a retailer with a generous
returns policy in case it doesn't do what you're wanting.

Cheers,
Ben.

There's a podcast on AppleVis about how to recalibrate your home button. You

Re: Facebook app newsfeed

2014-08-25 Thread Tim Emmons
When you see the so and so commented on this, the latest update to the app lets
you sit on the entry, for a sec, and it then reads what has been commented on.
Hope that helps. Just once you read it sit there for a sec and it should read
it. Thanks. Take care.

Still Having iPhone 5 Recharging Issues

2014-08-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Hello listers,

I posted a couple of weeks ago about an issue I've been having when
recharging my iPhone 5 with either the USB port on my computer or with an AC
wall outlet. I'm doing my recharging with the Apple branded cables that came
with my iPhone. I thought my problem of the phone not being recognized and
set to charge when plugging it in was related to a faulty lightning cable
but I've replace that through AppleCare and am still having the same
problem.

Someone suggested that I try a shot of compressed air in the connector port
to remove any dust, etc. that might have come from my pocket where I carry
the phone. However, the phone will charge as it's supposed to if I flip the
cable connector over and try plugging it in again. This often works but I
more than occasionally will hear the phone make the connection tone
repeatedly as if it's not sure of a good connection.

Since I've eliminated the lightning cable as the issue, what else goes wrong
on these phones to cause such a problem? Do the connector ports where the
cable plugs in ever go out? This seems like an odd thing to fail. I know
we've seen many posts about the iPhone 5 and problem batteries but I got
mine replaced in October of 2013 so it's well outside the range of those
recalled serial numbers.

I'd welcome any comments on what might be the issue. I suspect this is one
of those problems that would mysteriously disappear if I tried duplicating
it in the Apple Store.

Hello everyone,
When using Facebook on my iPhone, many times I come across in trees in my
Facebook newsfeed that say that someone has commented on someone else's post.
Unfortunately, when using voice over if you double tap this injury, you hear

iPhone 6: Sorting through fact and fiction around Apple's upcoming smartphone, cNet Daily News

2014-08-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

The following article was recently posted by cNet News. I thought you may
find it interesting.

By the way, as suggested in the article, at least 90% of the Android users
with whom I interact on a regular basis (sighted people), have told me
several times that they refuse to purchase an iPhone because the current
screen size is just too small.

As an aside, after reading this article I found that I am so glad that I use
both an iPhone and an Android phone. It's nice to have a proverbial foot in
both worlds.

Okay, here is the article and the link to the article is located at the very
bottom.

Enjoy,

Mark

ARTICLE
iPhone 6: Sorting through fact and fiction around Apple's upcoming
smartphone

Apple will soon release the successor to its popular iPhone 5S. Sarah
Tew/CNET

Apple's iPhone 6 may be one of the worst-kept secrets -- and most highly
anticipated devices -- of the year.

Since introducing the iPhone in 2007, Apple has added a new model every
year, with seven generations (covering eight models) so far. For the past
three years, Apple CEO Tim Cook has unveiled the new design in the fall,
which is why company watchers expect this year's update -- dubbed the iPhone
6 because it follows last year's iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C -- to make its
debut in September.

The fact that Apple hosts one big phone event a year, while rivals seem to
launch new devices every month, makes each iPhone launch a big deal. That's
especially true given that the smartphone is Apple's biggest moneymaker,
accounting for more than half of sales and about 70 percent of profit,
according to analysts.

CNET's iPhone 6 rumor roundup

Expectations are particularly high for the iPhone 6, which is expected to be
a "major" update to the smartphone. Apple has followed a pattern of
introducing big new designs every other year, with appealing but modest
updates -- like the 5S and 5C -- in between. But Apple investors and
boosters are now ready for revolutionary, rather than evolutionary products,
and Cook has said he'll deliver compelling new products in the second half
of this year.

So what Cook and his team, led by design chief Jony Ive, put into the iPhone
6 matters. The company can't afford to lose defectors to archrival Samsung
or have Apple users wait another year before they upgrade. The iPhone's
worldwide smartphone market share plummeted from a peak of 23 percent in
fourth quarter of 2011 to 12 percent in the second quarter of 2014,
according to market researcher IDC. That puts it in second place behind
Samsung.

Though the South Korean giant has battled Apple over patents in the courts
and is feeling the heat from Chinese vendors including Xiaomi, Huawei, and
Lenovo in fast-growing emerging markets, Samsung still ships more than twice
as many smartphones as Apple each quarter.

It's far from game over for Apple. In the latest quarter, ended June 28,
consumers bought 35.2 million iPhones even though Apple's latest devices --
the 5S, which added a new touch fingerprint security system and faster chip,
and the lower-cost, plastic encased 5C -- were nearly nine months old.

The iPhone 6 just may be one of the largest product launches in Apple's
38-year history. Apple reportedly has asked manufacturing partners to
produce about 70 million to 80 million units of its larger screen iPhones by
December 30, which is about 30 percent to 40 percent more iPhones than it
ordered for its initial run of last year's iPhone 5S and 5C.

Analysts such as RBC Capital Markets' Amit Daryanani say Apple could sell as
many as 80 million models of the iPhone 6 by the end of the year, but the
more likely amount is closer to 65 million -- still more than ever before.

"This will be the primary product that will drive [Apple's] growth in the
quarter, and to be fair, probably for the next two years," says longtime
Apple analyst Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies.

Apple declined to comment.

Apple's design hasn't changed much since the iPhone 4 in June 2010 -- with
the screen size increasing only slightly and battery life remaining steady
at about 10 hours.

A few of the device's features -- notably screen size -- haven't kept up
with those offered in devices powered by Android, the mobile operating
system Google gives to handset and tablet makers as an alternative to
Apple's iOS.

The iPhone 6 should introduce enough new features to keep its current
customers happy and maybe even tempt some away from Android. With so many
rumors swirling about what the new model will and won't have, here's what
market watchers see as the most likely.
Bigger screens

It's all but certain that Apple in September will introduce at least one new
iPhone with a larger screen than the current 4-inch design. The bet is that
the iPhone 6 will most likely offer a 4.7-inch display. What's

Re: the gmail app

2014-08-25 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've used the Gmail app a few times but not a lot, mainly because I
prefer to access my mail on a computer and not on my phone. If I have
a pressing need or am expecting an important message though I will
check it. The app appears to be straight forward with all buttons
labeled and fairly easy to use. A shock considering the other types of
Google apps out there (Just kidding, hahaha). Seriously, I haven't had
any issues when using the app. I did discover that I could apply
several labels at onece within the app, which I am unable to do in the
basic view on a Windows computer, so that was a great surprise. Not
much to report other than that.

Re: Bluetooth App for Powering Two Speakers Simultaneously

2014-08-25 Thread Tim Emmons
Eric, I can't remember the brand of speakers right off, but, you might want to
look in the App Store for your brand of speaker, there is a brand that has an
app that will allow you to do just this type of thing. Plus, you can have them
in separate locations playing the same thing, say different rooms at a party,

Look for yours in the store though you might be surprised. Hope this helps.
Thanks and take care.

RE: Free New Batteries for Some iPhone5 Units

2014-08-25 Thread Scott Duck
Hey Eric,

I'm having exactly the same issue with my 4S, ever sense IOS7.

No home button issue. Like I said, it was the power button that was also
giving me trouble. This problem was apparently acknowledged by Apple and a
repair program had been available since May of this year for it.

May I ask what your home button issue is?

Since the last update, I have noticed on both my iPhone 5 and Touch (last
generation with a camera) the home button seems to stick. It will not do
anything. This primarily occurs after I access Siri. I cannot get back to
the home screen or bring up the apps. I can turn VoiceOver on and off. It
seems that touching the power button to go into standby and coming back is
the only fix.

I have not paid attention if others are having similar issues with the home
button. I have not yet checked if my 5 is part of the battery recall group,
but I have always struggled to keep decent battery life, so perhaps.

Thanks!

Eric

I just got back from my local Apple store. Not only did my phone have the
battery issue, but it also had the power button problem present in some
iPhone 5 models. The tech guy told me that if it was just the battery, it
could take anywhere from one to three hours to change, but the power button
required the device to be sent away to be fixed. I bought this iPhone via
eBay and little did I know, it was still covered under Apple Care till next
month. The Apple Care was not listed in the eBay listing.

Since my phone had both problems and the warranty was still good, The Apple
guy just swapped out my old phone for a brand new one. Not a reconditioned
phone, but all together new. A pleasant surprise to gbe sure.

I'm in the process of restoring the backup now. Good times baby.

They ask you to do a full backup, disable Find My iPhone, then wipe your
device anyway, so you'll be fine. If I recall correctly, this program ends
March 31, 2015, so you have some time.

Annie,

If your iPhone 5 qualifies, i.e. if the serial number is part of those that
are effected, you can just do a factory restore back to iOS 7 with iTunes
and then send it in. I would do that anyways since I would not want to send
in my phone with all my stuff on it. Just download iOS 7.1.2 from
 www.ipswdownloader.com and restore it via
iTunes.

Hi.

Do you know how long this program will be going on.

I have an IPhone 5 with a beta of IOS 8, and I am not sure how to do about
that.

Best regards Annie.

Hi all,

As promised, here's the email on this program. Instead of typing everything,
I'll just paste the text from Apple's website below. The page link is after
the text.

iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program

[Please select a Country \/]Apple has determined that a very small
percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life
or need to be charged more frequently. The affected iPhone 5 devices were
sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited
serial number range.

If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms and meets the eligibility
requirements noted below, Apple will replace your iPhone 5 battery, free of
charge.

1 Double tap clock.
2 Double tap add in the top right hand corner.
3 Voice over announces, choose a city. Flick left or right to select a city to
add to the world clock. You can also flick 2 fingers down to have voice over
read you the list. Note: the world cities list is not inclusive of every city
but most of the major ones are there. Voice over will announce the time of
your list of cities and tell you what the time difference is between where you
are at presently and the selected city.

So what is the trick to get your city or state to show in the world clock on
the phone? I have tried zip code, city, and state. Thanks.

Re: A question regarding the volume of my ringer and VoiceOver

2014-08-25 Thread Alan Paganelli
This assumes though that you have put volume in the rotor. At one time this
was so with my iPhone. However, I spent more time un-doing the accidental
volume change then it was worth. The more things you make available in the
rotor, the more things can get screwed up. So today, I use as few items as
I can manage.

You do what's right for your needs. The way I do it may not be right for
you.

Turn the roter to "volume" and increase the level. This will make VO
louder and more in line with system sounds.

Subject: A question regarding the volume of my ringer and VoiceOver

Hi all,

For the past couple of days my iPhone 5S has been acting strangely when the
phone rings. The ringer volume is good but, for some reason, VO is barely
audible! Heretofore, when the volume of the ringer was pretty loud, so was
VO, but now, not so. As far as I know, I haven't done anything to cause this
to happen, so therefore don't know what to do to fix this most annoying
problem! If anyone has suggestions/ideas, I would very much appreciate
hearing them! I have checked in the menus but am unable to find anything
that would help. I tried turning up the volume as VoiceOver was speaking but
that didn't work.

Thanks in advance,

Ann
