A gift from the creator of GigDaddy Multi-Track mixer

2014-12-20 Thread Richard Turner
When GigDaddy was first released, it wasn't very accessible. I wrote the
developer and over memorial Day weekend of 2011, he sent me several private
builds improving the accessibility each time until he had a fully
accessible, multi-track recorder for the iDevices. He even turned on the
screen curtain when he was working on the app to make sure he understood how
a blind person would interact with the iPhone. In fact, he spent most of a
day using VoiceOver with the screen curtain on.

I think the result was quite excellent. Now, I'm not a professional
musician, just a dabbler. I'm not even an expert with the app, but if
people get the app, I'll try and help, and you can also get help from the
developer. I wrote him this last week asking if he was planning to update
the app. He hadn't updated it since November 2011. It works fine in iOS
8.1.2, but I think with the new features available in iOS 8, he could make
it better than it already is. He wrote me back and said he has plans this
next year to take some time off from his day job and update the app. Out of
the blue, he sent me 12 promo codes to give the app away for free.

The app is only $2.99.

But, if you would be able to make use of a multi-track recorder, I have
decided on the following way to give away the 12 codes.

1. Do not, and I repeat, do not write to the list to get a code. The
list does not need more traffic.

2. Only those who write me privately will have a chance to get a code.

3. Send a message to me with the subject exactly as I am about to give
it because I will create a filter looking for this exact phrase, without the
quotes: "GigDaddy give-away" and send it to: rich...@turner42.com

The first 12 people who write me following the above guidelines will receive
a code.

I will let everyone know when they are given away. The codes expire on
January 16, 2015.

Happy recording,

Richard

RE: [Bulk] Re: KNFB reader on IPhone 6

2014-12-20 Thread Richard Turner
Apparently not. But, I’ve heard that slight distortion from other apps that
are accessing the voiceover voices and using them separately from voiceover.
Until KNFB Reader decides to add other voices, the way Voice Dream Reader did
among other apps, I think we are stuck with that distortion.

learn how to use it?

Thanks.

Hi Laury,

Flip is accessible. Just a quick reminder since I think you are fairly new to
the list that you can also have a look at the archives to see if something has
been discussed already. There is a link to the list archive at the bottom of
each post. When I went there and typed in "FFlip coupon app" I found a post of
mine from October where somebody else asked the same as you. Here uis the link

Hi, now I am having the same problem. But double tapping on the comment button

The only way I can comment is I doble tap on comment.

Getting Frustrated Waiting for SIM Free Unlocked iPhone 6 Plus in US

2014-12-20 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I've been waiting for a factory unlocked or what is sometimes referred to as
a SIM Free, iPHone 6 Plus to be sold in the US.

Apple is currently selling both the T-Mobile and A T & T Wireless 6 pluses,
off-contract, but each time I go to an Apple store, I get different answers
as to whether the phone is truly unlocked.

>From what I've researched, many have purchased the off-contract T-Mobile
version, activated it with a non-T-mobile SIM and successfully unlocked or,
more accurately, prevented it from becoming locked to T-Mobile. However,
I've also heard from those for whom this did not work and they found
themselves, even after having paid full price for the phone, to beg t-Mobile
to unlock their new phone.

Try as I may, I cannot find one instance on the web of anyone confirming
that the off-contract A T & T Wireless phones, being sold at Apple stores
are being used with non A T & T Wireless SIMS.

I am almost convinced that should I purchase a T-Mobile off-contract phone
from Apple, immediately insert my A T & T Wireless SIM, before powering
on/activating the phone, I should be fine, however, I just don't know if I'm
willing to take the chance as the price of the device will be, after taxes,
Apple Care, screen protector, etc over $1200.00 and, at such a price point,
in my opinion, mistakes are not allowed.

Two days ago, I was at the Apple Store, there's one less than 3 miles away,
several people at the store told me that the A T & T Wireless phone,
off-contract, should remain unlocked or will not become locked to A T & T
Wireless, even if I activate the phone with my A T & T Wireless SIM. Some
how, I just don't believe that as I have not yet heard of anyone
successfully doing so.

At another Apple store, I was told that the two phones are imaged
differently and that one really should purchase a device made for the
primary SIM.

I've been to 8 Apple Stores during the last month or so and the one thing I
cannot get a definite answer to is what exactly locks a phone to a specific
carrier. I get varying answers from various store managers.

I was almost going to buy a 6 plus last night but, just before handing over
my credit card I asked the manager, "Any idea on when you will be selling a
SIM free phone?" To which he answered, "You mean completely unlocked? I
don't know."

It was that word "completely" that got to me and I decided not to purchase
just yet.

I just don't understand why, we in the US, cannot just go to an Apple store
and purchase a factory unlocked, completely SIM Free iPhone 6 plus when the
rest of the world can.

2014-12-20 Thread Joseph
Hello,
Well, I'm sure not going to purchase a supposedly unlocked phone if that's the
case. I really wish that manufacturers could be a little more honest. Wow,
imagine that?

At one stage the buttons, I think, were better placed at the bottom of the

I reported this issue to accessibility a few weeks back. I have found though
that if you act as though the search terms were deleted and you enter a new
search term and press search then the new terms do showup in the search term
field.

Question about using braille input on touch screen

2014-12-20 Thread Nicki keck
Hi all,
I have an iPhone 5S, and most of the time, braille input works well for me, but
sometimes, I will switch to braille input, and it will say like it is supposed
to for how I have the phone, "landscape, home button to the left, tabletop
mode." But sometimes, I will not move the phone, I will be still and starting
to type whatever I want, and it will start switching spontaneously to screen
away mode and switching my landscape to home button to the right. Has anyone
else had this happen? S ometimes, it's just perfect and it stays where it is
supposed to. I have tried seeing if positioning the phone in a better position
makes it stop, but nothing seems to make much difference. Any way to
counteract this or keep it from happening?

Does anyone know if flip is accessible for voice over users? I have found the

It means the iPhone is not flat. For away mode, have and keep the phone at
least 45 degrees toward vertical. For table-top mode, keep the phone on a flat
surface. hands and legs are almost never flat.

Hi Bret,

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing what else he can do with GigDaddy.
You know, I think through the http access you can import sound files from other
apps. I have not messed with that for a long time.
I forwarded your note to him, so we'll see.

Later,

Hi richard,

Great to hear that this app may be getting an update if you do talk with the
developer, it would be great if this app would allow you to paste audio from
other apps, along with integrating with audiobus

The dev has done an excellent job of making GigDaddy accessible.

Hello,
I only got it to work once with the demo movie when it was on cable and I had
the iPhone near the tv to pickup the audio.
However, I thought that I read that the service was no longer working and I may
be wrong about that. This was around last May or June that I read that the
service wasn't going to produce anything further. And again, please forgive me
if I'm wrong about that.

RE: saving money on groceries?

2014-12-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Laury,

The archives can sometimes be a good source for information, but if you type in
"bluetooth headset" or some other very generic term chances are you'll find
hundreds of posts but not necessarily an answer to your question.

Thanks Sieghard you're right in that I am fairly new to the list. I've only
been subscribed for a month or 2. I will be sure to check out the archives
prior to asking a question to see if my answer is already there.

Does anyone know if flip is accessible for voice over users? I have found the
app and I read the description but it makes no mention of this.

YES, it is always necessary to put a little bit of space between one's

Actually it does work. I use it all the time.
The trick to using the 2-finger double tap is to move the phone away
from your head and wait several seconds before issuing the tap.
I did this under 6.+, 7.+ and now 8.1.2.

To my knowledge, the two-finger double tap no longer works with iOS
8. Try taking the phone away from your ear so it automatically
switches to speakerphone. Then you should be able to hear the End

can't hear the button I'm trying to locate at the end of a call and

At one stage the buttons, I think, were better placed at the bottom

Does anyone else feel this way and, if so, do you think there's any

fax app from the iPhone?

2014-12-20 Thread Eric Oyen
hello all,
I have been looking for an app that will allow my iPhone to be a fax machine
for my macbook. So far, the app store has a lot of apps, but there are so many
hits that I am not sure which one would be right. Also, it needs to be
accessible using voiceover on there.

any suggestions?

RE: fax app from the iPhone?

2014-12-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Why not use a service such as Myfax. For $5 a month you can get 200 incoming
and 100 outgoing pages and either a local or toll free fax number. Faxes are
going to the Myfax server and are then forwarded to your email address as a PDF
file. If you want to send a fax you just send an email with attachment to
faxnum...@myfax.com and the Myfax server will send the fax and send a
confirmation email showing either successful or unsuccessful transmition. There
is also an app which allows you to look at incoming and sent faxes, but while I
have been using Myfax for many years, I don't use the app. On an iPhone I can
open the PDF attachment in an app like KNFB Reader or Prizmo for OCR and as a
Jaws user this is now even easier on my computer since I can just open the
attachment and then tell Jaws 16 with 1 layered keystroke to go ahead and
recognize the entire document. Extending convenient OCR to recognize entire PDF
documents in the latest Jaws update was true genious.
The nice thing about a service like Myfax is that it works with any email
capable device, you don't have to have your own fax number or any hardware. In
addition to that you get your faxes anywhere you can get your email. it's cro

Re: fax app from the iPhone?

2014-12-20 Thread Eric Oyen
well,
I don't have a spare $100 to spend on the KNFB reader app, so I guess thats
out. also, I am still running jaws 14 on the windows laptop. I may have to see
what an upgrade to 16 costs. if its what I think it is, then that is a lot more
than my budget will support for anytime in the foreseeable future. I do have
Kurzweile personal reader on the windows machine, but I don't know if that will
handle PDF docs.

I will look into MyFax and see how usable they are. Since I use my mac
primarily, the service would have to be accessible using voiceover on my older
white book (running lion).

anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
