Welcome to Family Sharing.

2014-12-28 Thread Deidre Muccio
Hello all

I am trying to get Family Sharing going. My sister says she is the organizer
and sent me an invite. Below is all I have recently gotten from Apple and it
says absolutely nothing about it’s being an invite.

When I got to Settings and I Cloud it has me listed as the
organizer. It wants me to click on the button to share my purchases with
whatever family member I guess I have to write in. Meanwhile, my sister thinks
she has already set this up at her end. Also she is the one with downloads I
might want to share whereas I have nothing she doesn’t already have and I don’t
intend to be downloading much right off.

Ok I see below that it says to visit the purchase page. I will
try that and see if that gets me where I want and if my sister’s name is in
there. Still I am uncomfortable with it having me listed as the organizer. How
can I get rid of that?

Also, must this be done on the computer and not from the phone? If
so I have to download Safari which I didn’t really want to bother with.

Hi,
Before getting into the family sharing settings, you needed to wait for your
sister's invitation.
You set Family Sharing up on your phone, not the computer, so don't bother with
Safari on your computer.

I strongly recommend calling Apple Accessibility. I think they can help you
sort this out.

Workflow App: Tedious to Use, but Worth It

2014-12-28 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
You may have heard about the recently released Workflow app, which provides
automation for iOS. Here's the AppleVis page for it:
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/productivity/workflow-powerful-automation-made-simple

I've spent a few days with it, and once I worked out how to use it, it became
possible to make workflows. There are VoiceOver bugs, but the developers want
to gather feedback and fix those. I'm hoping an update in the next few months
will make what is already a usable app into one that is easy and fun, just as
it is for sighted people. Even now, though, it is possible to make workflows.

The one I just completed is a vibrating timer. You give it a value (6 or over)
and it vibrates your phone ad intervals to let you know how much time has
passed. It vibrates twice when a quarter of your time is gone, twice again
halfway, twice again at three quarters, three times when you have one minute,
and finally four times when time is up. A friend on Twitter gave me the idea,
and he uses a similar setup to silently keep track of the time during speeches,
meetings, etc. So long as you know how long you have, this can use vibrations
to keep you on track.

What I just described sounds like an app, but it's not. It uses the Workflow
app to run, but it sits on my home screen and I can launch it, type in my time
and off it goes. Workflow allows you to automate saving or downloading files,
making or sharing calendar appointments or reminders, emailing, and tons more.
It's currently $3, and if this is the kind of thing you're into, I suggest
picking it up. The app is, as I said, currently usable with VO if you work
around the issues it has, but the team is seeking feedback from VO users and
hopes to improve things in the near future. I'm not part of this app in any
way, I just really like what it can do and wanted to spread the word.

RE: family sharing

2014-12-28 Thread Richard Turner
Actually, the phones are not that smart.

The issue is that you set yourself as the family organizer before you clicked
on the link in the invitation. One of the limits of Family Sharing is that you
can only be a part of one family and there can only be one organizer.

But, I think it should be pretty easy for Apple Accessibility to reset your
settings so you are not an organizer.

I just don’t know exactly what that takes, but when you are talking with them,
they can look up your account and hopefully sort that out.

Good luck,

Richard

iCloud. Your Apple ID, not Dulce's on your device.

Whomever is the organizer, also has to have a credit card on file.

Since you want Dulce to be the organizer, you don't have to worry about that.

But, call Apple Accessibility and see if they can't get you setup correctly.

Sounds like a form of scripting like we did with batch files in DOS?

An opportunity to share them might have mileage too, if some are better at

Subject: Workflow App: Tedious to Use, but Worth It

Hi all,
You may have heard about the recently released Workflow app, which provides
automation for iOS. Here's the AppleVis page for it:
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/productivity/workflow-powerful-automation-made-simple

I've spent a few days with it, and once I worked out how to use it, it
became possible to make workflows. There are VoiceOver bugs, but the
developers want to gather feedback and fix those. I'm hoping an update in
the next few months will make what is already a usable app into one that is
easy and fun, just as it is for sighted people. Even now, though, it is
possible to make workflows.

The one I just completed is a vibrating timer. You give it a value (6 or
over) and it vibrates your phone ad intervals to let you know how much time
has passed. It vibrates twice when a quarter of your time is gone, twice
again halfway, twice again at three quarters, three times when you have one
minute, and finally four times when time is up. A friend on Twitter gave me
the idea, and he uses a similar setup to silently keep track of the time
during speeches, meetings, etc. So long as you know how long you have, this
can use vibrations to keep you on track.

What I just described sounds like an app, but it's not. It uses the Workflow
app to run, but it sits on my home screen and I can launch it, type in my
time and off it goes. Workflow allows you to automate saving or downloading
files, making or sharing calendar appointments or reminders, emailing, and
tons more. It's currently $3, and if this is the kind of thing you're into,
I suggest picking it up. The app is, as I said, currently usable with VO if
you work around the issues it has, but the team is seeking feedback from VO
users and hopes to improve things in the near future. I'm not part of this
app in any way, I just really like what it can do and wanted to spread the
word.

Have a great day,

RE: family sharing

2014-12-28 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,

I think you can actually call Apple Accessibility today.

I believe they are on duty 7 days a week.

At least, one advisor I spoke with had a ten hour shift from Friday to Monday.

Good luck,

Richard

Hmmm, I don’t remember hitting on anything saying I wanted to be the organizer.
It seemed that first time I went into settings, it simply was marked “me”
“organizer.” We’ll see what they say tomorrow.

Good luck,

Richard

I will call accessibility, or ask Dulce to. I am signed in using the

the phones are smart enough to recognize someone has already designated
themselves as the organizer, but perhaps not.

So, are you saying that the keyboard shows up as if it were portrait? So, when
you have it landscaped, the keyboard is on the short side so you have to turn

That seems rather strange indeed.

Richard,

I spoke to Glen from Apple today and he set me straight. He said I must have
done what you said I did, that is, somehow set up family sharing with me as the
organizer. Also the phone was never registered to me and was still in the
previous users name. That is also probably why my sister never succeeded In

So now I will be expecting a pop up alerting me to the invite
and if I miss it I can open up notifications and voila, it will be there. Thank
you for urging me to call accessibility, they indeed needed to clear it out at
their end.

I'm not part of this
app in any way, I just really like what it can do and wanted to spread the
word.

Have a great day,
Alex Hall

An action is a dimmed button. So, that tutorial has an action to make gif,
meaning that VO will say make gif, dimmed button. Double tap and hold that,
with your finger in the center of the screen, and drag your finger to the
right. That's how you'll add any action. To get to the list of actions, while
making a workflow, double tap the Actions tab or do a three-finger swipe left.
Find the action, and double tap and hold, like before.

2014-12-28 Thread Katey Glass
I set up my iPad Air
2 as a new device and when I only had VO running it allows me to swipe home
pages in both landscape and portrait modes. But as soon as I add Zoom and
have it running with VO the odd behavior starts again where swiping only works
in landscape mode. I tested it on my iPhone 6+ and when I turned off zoom and
only voiceover was running it worked perfectly!!! So It appears to be a VO
Zoom conflict. I'm waiting for zack to call me back. If he doesn't in a
little bit I may call and let someone else help. As I didn't get a case
number.

Any other VO zoom users?

Accessability to see if they've heard of this.

Btw when I was in an Apple Store I tried an iPad Air 2 in landscape mode

Also I noticed when I try to use the spotlight search in landscape mode
the keyboard is at the right side sideways like it's in portrait mode!!!
My fiancé's doesn't do this. This happens weather voiceover is on or

I also found I can't scroll in web pages in landscape mode. Does anyone
have any suggestions as to why this is happening? Any suggestions would

VO and Zoom really do not work very well together.
For one, many of the gestures are different for VO if Zoom is running.

I'd recommend just using VO and save yourself the headache of dealing with them
together.

Good luck,

I set up my iPad Air

pages in both landscape and portrait modes.

Any other VO zoom users?

Re: tune in radio

2014-12-28 Thread Brent Harding
I would think it should, but some stations might not based on their
geographic restrictions. The thing I hate though is that there are still
things where they block out the mobile stream but allow desktop, like ESPN
for some sports at times. I knew rights were complicated but never thought
mobile streaming was necessarily superior enough to disallow it over the
desktop kind.

sorry for this nutty question, does tune in radio work in Canada? I ask
this not to sound cheap but if it costs money, I don’t want to buy it if it
won’t work here and if not, I don’t want to download an app where I can’t
access the content. Again, sorry if this is way too senile sounding.

Gi all. For those with an iPhone 6, does voiceover seem to have the same bugs
as it did in 8.0 even with 8.1.2? For me, focus bugs remain, and the direct
