Maybe, but you did say we all have the right to comment on the price,
and I'm just saying, although you have that right, that doesn't mean I
care what you or anyone else thinks about the price of an app.

Besides, although your message was the last in the thread, I wasn't
necessarily replying to you directly. If you read the thread, you will
see that the comment is made that the app is overpriced.

Yes, the app developer has the right to set his own pricing, but once he
makes it public, we all have the right to comment on it. This also
occurs with mainstream apps, so are you saying that because this is a

Yes, I do have the KNFB app and find it worth the cost, as currently

as a third-party keyboard

Hi,

Here is just my opinion.

I think the initial purchase of the app 33AUD was worth every cent, I
think the third-party keyboard is overpriced and taking the micky a
bit. Given that other third-party keyboards are free or under 2.50 and
there was no initial purchase price. The other third-party keyboards
include word prediction and spell checking in most cases, which
MBraille doesn’t.

There are three advantages with MBraille as a third-party keyboard:

1.You can do a one finger flick up to read what you have written. With
iOS Braille, you must dismiss the keyboard before you can read the
message. You then need to edit the message using the standard keyboard.

2.If when reading the message, you notice a mistake, you can navigate
to it and correct it still using the MBraille keyboard, as long as you
don’t have direct input enabled. I haven’t found a reason to enable
direct input yet.

3.When writing email addresses or web addresses with iOS Braille, I
have found when writing the dot com part, you need to braille the
period, do a space to enter the period, delete the space then write
the com bit. You don’t have to muck around like this with MBraille. If
someone knows of a way to do this with iOS braille, please let me know.

*Although these advantages are nice, you need to decide if its worth
the extra money over iOS Braille. I was curious and could afford it,
so I gave it a go to satisfy my curiosity. I don’t regret it, but
still think its overpriced as you

Alex,

I think another great app for this sort of thing would be List Recorder and you
could choose either text, or audio or both for your notes. I don’t have the app

version of this so you could give it a try. The full version I believe is $9.99
and worth every penny.

I don't know why things changed, or exactly when, but it used to be that a lot
of apps that display rtf files would do exactly what you want. Somewhere along
the line, though, they started not working correctly. You can't flick to
anything, and everything appears as one big chunk of text. I'm not sure why
this happened, but I believe that some kind of change in iOS did this. My only
suggestion is to maybe give Voice Dream Writer a try.

Thanks,

Hi list,

That's a terrible subject, and I'm afraid my question will be equally
confusing. I'm going to give it a try though, so stick with me. Here goes.

I'm playing some music (I'm on bass) and I need to write down the set list,
keys and where they change, and notes to myself. For instance, I need to remind
myself that on this song I kick it off by sliding to a low F, or there's a rest
at the end of the third chorus where *everyone* is silent. I also need the
actual bass notes for some of them, but others I know well enough that the key
and any voicing/structure instructions are enough.

I tried using a slate and stylus, but any change the director makes forces me
to rewrite the whole page, plus I can't fit things how I want to. I don't have
a real brailler, or access to an embosser, and even if I did, we're back to the
point about changes. My current plan is to write all this information on my
phone, so I can just select the next song and read through my notes. Each song
can't have just one big block of text, though, and that's where, at long last,
we arrive at my question.

I want to be able to find the next song in my list, and open it. I want to then
see a list of individual notes, so I can swipe left or right to move from note
to note. For instance, a song opens up and the first item is "start by sliding
to low F". Swiping right once reads the notes for the intro, and another swipe
the notes for the first verse, and so on. There's too much to try to listen to
everything at once, so I need to break it down into smaller pieces I can look
at one at a time, and can repeat if necessary. For anyone wondering, no, I
don't have a braille display.

There's my question. Is there a way to write text, then have an app present it
in such a way that I can flick between paragraphs in that text, like how a
webpage works? I really hope I'm making some kind of sense; let me know if I
can clarify anything. Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone has.

Re: Question, if I download a file onto my phone, can I get it off my phone, onto my computer?

2015-06-02 Thread Alan Lemly
Terry,

Whether you can get a file off your phone and onto your computer depends on a
couple of factors. Apple's iOS system is not designed to allow open access to
its file system by users. However, certain Apps have access to their files
through iTunes or through a cloud service such as Dropbox so it depends on
which app you used to get the file onto your phone.

Give us some more details and perhaps we can help.

RE: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and Notifications

2015-06-02 Thread Richard Turner
For those who don't have the ability to convert these files, I used GoldWave's
batch conversion mode and converted them all to m4a, then renamed them to m4r,
zipped them up and put the zip file on my dropbox.
Here is the link.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/41698889/S6RingTones.zip

I will leave it up until the weekend when I will have time to put them on my
webpage with a link.

Enjoy,

Subject: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and Notifications

Hello Everyone,

Recently, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 6. While it can never take the
place of my beloved iPhone 6 Plus, it is a very, very well-made and classy
device.

One thing I absolutely adore about all of the Galaxy products, especially on
the new S 6, is the number of native RingTones, sounds, and notifications
included with the devices.

A quick Google search will turn up many sites where the stock RingTones for
many popular Android Smartphones have been ripped and placed in a Zip file,
ready to be used by anyone.

The primary reason why these RingTones are made readily available is so that
those who wish to create what are known as custom ROMS can more closely
mirror the native manufacturers OS with regard to basic functionality.

Okay, okay; too much information, right?

The following is text that I posted to an Android list containing the link
to the RingTones, sounds and notifications for the S 6 which, you may use on
your iOS device.

Mark

Download The Samsung Galaxy S 6 and 6 Edge Stock RingTones, Sounds, and
Notifications

For a while now I've been using a text message alert on my iPhone 6 Plus
that I ripped from a Galaxy Note 2.

There are several ringtones and/or notifications on my Galaxy S 6 that I
want to use on my 6 Plus, as well.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that all the hard work had already
been done for me as the S 6 and 6 Edge stock sounds are available on The
Android Soul.com website.

All they ask is that one gives them credit for the Zip file when sharing the
link or when using the sounds in a custom ROM.

So, for those of you who want to sprinkle a little Galaxy seasoning into
your Apple sauce (or anything else for that matter), I offer the following
two links:

1.
The direct download link to the Zip file containing all of the stock sounds
for Samsung Galaxy S 6 and 6 Edge:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/downloads/file/S6Rings.zip

2.
The URL to the Android Soul.com site which contains the link listed above:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-samsung-galaxy-s6-ringtones-74737/

Please note that all of the files are in their original format said format
being .ogg

In order to be used in iOS as ringtones or notifications, assuming you do
not use iTunes in the conversion process, they will first have to be
converted to .m4a and then subsequently renamed to .m4r.

Enjoy,

Mark

RE: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and Notifications

2015-06-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jed,

It would probably have been easier if you had copied the ringtones into the
"Automatically Add to iTunes" folder in your iTunes Media folder. If you do
this and then open iTunes, iTunes will recognize them as ringtones and
automatically copy them into the Tones folder and at the same time add them to
your Tones library.

If you have already copied them into iTunes\iTunes Media\Tones then open
iTunes, go to the File menu, select "Add Folder to Library" and browse to your
Tones folder and select it. This will add the Tones to your Tones library.

Now that this is done you have to connect your phone and sync either all tones
or those you select to your phone. As I said, connect your phone to the
computer, open iTunes and go to your device section. In the treeview which
starts with Summary, go down past Apps and Music until you get to Tones. Now
tab once and you should have a checkbox which says something like "Sync Tones"
or Sync Ringtones". Make sure you check this. Now tab a few more times and you
will find two options: "Sync all Tones" or "Sync Selected Tones". If you check
to sync all tones then all you have to do now is go to "File", "Devices" and
select "Sync". If you select to sync only selected tones then tab until you get
into the listview of all available tones, arrow down through the list,
select/check the ones you want by pressing the spacebar and after you are done
go to "File", "Devices" and "Sync".
Your tones should now be available on the phone.

Sieghard

RE: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and Notifications

2015-06-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jed,

Sorry, I did download the zip folder with the ringtones from the link Mark
provided. I hadn't even checked to see what format they were in but just
assumed they were in iTunes/iPhone format since Mark mentioned somebody had
already done all the work. As Cara pointed out, any tone that is not in AAC
format (Apple Audio Codex) has to be converted first before you can rename it.
The generic music/audio extension for this format is M4A and Apple uses various
versions of this extension to indicate whether an audio file is a song,
ringtone, audio book etc. Anything with M4A is treated just as audio/a song.
M4R indicates a ringtone, M4B an audio book.

So, basically you will have to find an audio converter application or use a
free online conversion website like
http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-m4a. I just tried that one and it's
pretty simple and straight forward, of course, it is one file/tone at a time
and I believe there was over 100 tones in that zipped file. Anyhow, the link I
provided should straight away open the page for converting to M4A, just use the
button quick nav key to find the "browse" button, browse to the file you want
to convert, select it and then find the "Convert" button. The file will upload
and convert, then check your information bar as it should pop up with a notice
asking whether you want to download the newly converted tone. Select "Save" and
the M4A file will be put in your downloads folder. Now you can rename it and
follow the steps I described in my first email which explain how you get it
into your tones library in iTunes and then sync it to your phone.

Maybe Mark will be so kind as to batch convert all the tones, rename them and
to post a new zip file in his Dropbox.

Sieghard

More Paypal app problems: can't send payment

2015-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I'm giving up on the Paypal app. I tried to send a payment a couple days ago,
then again this morning. Both times, it wouldn't work. Finally, I just went to
the website and did it from there. Here's what happened, and, just to be safe,
at no point did I use braille input.

I logged in and chose to "send money". I entered (well, pasted, but same thing)
the email address, then tried to enter the amount. Before I could, I had to
choose the radio button for the payment type (friend/family or goods). Only
after I selected that would the app let me edit the "amount" field. I typed in
the number, then tried to hit "next", but nothing happened. I looked back at my
fields… and saw that the "email/phone" field, where I'd pasted the email
address before, was empty. It turned out that every time I wanted to edit a new
field (amount, message, etc) I had to hit a radio button or the app would
refuse to bring up a keyboard for that field. Each time I hit a radio button,
though, the first field on the screen was cleared out for some reason. Thus, I
could never continue, since editing any field effectively made me hit a button
that the app took as a signal to clear out the address field, and the app can't
go on with no address.

All my apps are up to date, and I'm on an iPhone 5 with iOS8.3. Does anyone
have any idea why this would be happening? I don't anticipate using Paypal much
for this kind of thing, but it would be nice to have the option for times I
need it.

Just rename it... rename the m4a file to m4r.
The format is the same.

So, basically you will have to find an audio converter application or use a free online conversion website
like http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-m4a. I just tried that one and it's pretty simple and
straight forward, of course, it is one file/tone at a time and I believe there was over 100 tones in that
zipped file. Anyhow, the link I provided should straight away open the page for converting to M4A, just use
the button quick nav key to find the "browse" button, browse to the file you want to convert,
select it and then find the "Convert" button. The file will upload and convert, then check your
information bar as it should pop up with a notice asking whether you want to download the newly converted
tone. Select "Save" and the M4A file will be put in your downloads folder. Now you can rename it
and follow the steps I described in my first email which explain how you get it into your tones library in
iTunes and then sync it to your phone.

Maybe Mark will be so kind as to batch convert all the tones, rename them and
to post a new zip file in his Dropbox.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi John and Jed.

John, Jed has already said that he has tried putting the ringtones in his Tones

Jed, in order for your ringtones to show up as tones, remember, they must be
forty seconds or under, and they must have the file extension m4r.

So if these tones are mp3 tones, they must be first converted to Apple’s AAC
format and then the extension of each file should be changed from m4a to m4r.

If the sound files are already in AAC format and have the m4a extension, you
can simply rename the file and change its extension to m4r.

Once you do this, the files in your Tones folder should show up for you as
ringtones in iTunes.

You can then sync these to your phone.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Well, I was quite interested in this list recorder app until I realized it
hasn’t been updated since November of 2013. I know it’s only 99 cents in the
United States for the basic version. I’d appreciate any info as to how well it
still works. Also, I was quite disappointed to find that there does not seem to
be any obvious drop box iCloud support. So, keeping it synced across devices
does not appear to be an option.

If you want to view some ones profile then in the facebook app double tapp more
at the bottom of the screen.
Then swipe to friends and then double tapp.
Then swipe to the friend whos profile you want to view and then double tapp.
then you should see there profile.
That is if that is what you are trying to do.
Now as far as the statuses being hours apart like one status was posted 1 hour
another was posted 6 hours I don't see a way to fix that at this time.

do what Status Report did? It is a shame that they won't fix it, sincde
it was a paid app!

Enjoy,

Mark

Re: facebook ap questions

2015-06-02 Thread Chris Chaffin

As far as viewing your timeline or newsfeed in the order that things were
posted:
You can go to the more tab at the bottom of the app, more is the last tab on
the right, double tap it.
Flicking or swiping down from the top, you will come to a recent button.
Double tap it.
Now you will find on the screen your current timeline or newsfeed, but this
time it will be in order by time posted.

Hope this helps.

DropBox is one of your choices.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. The way iOS used to display text or RTF

things just right. I've heard of List Recorder before, but thought it was only
for audio; I'll see if the free version does well, and consider buying the full
one if it does. Thanks again.

I think if you “like” certain items in your news feed then you will see more
from that person or group. I think this does work so I sometimes “like” items
just to be sure I see more of the ones from that person or group.
I think this might have been a tip from Kim Komando but I am not sure.

Subject: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and Notifications

Hello Everyone,

Recently, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 6. While it can never take the place
of my beloved iPhone 6 Plus, it is a very, very well-made and classy device.

The primary reason why these RingTones are made readily available is so that
those who wish to create what are known as custom ROMS can more closely mirror
the native manufacturers OS with regard to basic functionality.

Okay, okay; too much information, right?

The following is text that I posted to an Android list containing the link to
the RingTones, sounds and notifications for the S 6 which, you may use on your
iOS device.

Mark

Download The Samsung Galaxy S 6 and 6 Edge Stock RingTones, Sounds, and
Notifications

For a while now I've been using a text message alert on my iPhone 6 Plus that I
ripped from a Galaxy Note 2.

There are several ringtones and/or notifications on my Galaxy S 6 that I want
to use on my 6 Plus, as well.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that all the hard work had already been
done for me as the S 6 and 6 Edge stock sounds are available on The Android
Soul.com website.

All they ask is that one gives them credit for the Zip file when sharing the
link or when using the sounds in a custom ROM.

So, for those of you who want to sprinkle a little Galaxy seasoning into your
Apple sauce (or anything else for that matter), I offer the following two links:

1.
The direct download link to the Zip file containing all of the stock sounds for
Samsung Galaxy S 6 and 6 Edge:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/downloads/file/S6Rings.zip

2.
The URL to the Android Soul.com site which contains the link listed above:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-samsung-galaxy-s6-ringtones-74737/

Please note that all of the files are in their original format said format
being .ogg

In order to be used in iOS as ringtones or notifications, assuming you do not
use iTunes in the conversion process, they will first have to be converted to
.m4a and then subsequently renamed to .m4r.

Enjoy,

Mark

Re: Facebook ap questions

2015-06-02 Thread Chris Chaffin

By default Facebook remembers the peoples post that you like or comment on, and
it will show more of the post from them.
I did notice that there were some people and pages that I never see post from,
and I know that there has been post that I have missed. I do not like Facebook
choosing whose post they think I want to see!!
After looking around in the app, I noticed that there was a newsfeed
preferences button on the more tab near the bottom of that screen.
If you double tap that, it will show you all of the people and pages you have,
and if you are still following them. I noticed that some of mine had been
changed to follow, which means you are no longer following them. After I went
through all of mine, I noticed that I started getting all of my post again like
I should. So I would recommend checking out these preferences to make sure you
are seeing the post you want.

HTH,
Chris

Additionally, the app seems quite unstable—I flick right to see the next

Jed,

I'm not sure that copying files into the tones folder on your computer will
cause them to be automatically added to your iTunes library where they have to
be if you want to sync them to your phone. I seem to recall someone on this
list saying that if you double tap on the files from within windows explorer
that this will cause them to play and to be added to your iTunes library. I
don't know if that's right but from within iTunes you should be able to select
file and add folder to your library and navigate to your tones library to add
all the files within it to iTunes.

Good luck.

For those who don't have the ability to convert these files, I used
GoldWave's batch conversion mode and converted them all to m4a, then
renamed them to m4r, zipped them up and put the zip file on my dropbox.
 Here is the link.

I will leave it up until the weekend when I will have time to put them on

Subject: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and

 Hello Everyone,

Recently, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 6. While it can never take the
place of my beloved iPhone 6 Plus, it is a very, very well-made and classy
 device.

One thing I absolutely adore about all of the Galaxy products, especially
on the new S 6, is the number of native RingTones, sounds, and
 notifications included with the devices.

A quick Google search will turn up many sites where the stock RingTones
for many popular Android Smartphones have been ripped and placed in a Zip
file, ready to be used by anyone.

The primary reason why these RingTones are made readily available is so
that those who wish to create what are known as custom ROMS can more
closely mirror the native manufacturers OS with regard to basic
 functionality.

Okay, okay; too much information, right?

The following is text that I posted to an Android list containing the link
to the RingTones, sounds and notifications for the S 6 which, you may use
 on your iOS device.

All they ask is that one gives them credit for the Zip file when sharing
the link or when using the sounds in a custom ROM.

So, for those of you who want to sprinkle a little Galaxy seasoning into
your Apple sauce (or anything else for that matter), I offer the following
 two links:

Pop 3 Email On An Iphone

2015-06-02 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I have heard that pop 3 either does not work at all, or not very well on an IOS

work at all, what does it not do as well as IMAP?

Apple Watch Issues

2015-06-02 Thread Keith Watson
Hi,

I am experiencing an issue with my 38 mm Apple Watch. When I press the screen
to read the time it sometimes makes the click sound when waking but does not
speak the time.

Any of you who own a watch can you please let me know either way. And also
which size watch you bought? I have polled two 38 mm owners and a 42 mm owner
and it appears that only those of us who bought the 32 mm are experiencing the
issue. I would like a larger data set to provide to Apple.

Thanks,

Keith

Re: Pop 3 Email On An Iphone

2015-06-02 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd be shocked if POP3 doesn't work at all or even doesn't work very
well on an IOS device. POP3 was the default for Gmail on IOS devices not
too long ago. POP3 is a very established and stable protocol that Apple
has supported for a very long time. I suspect you're running into some
opinions that think IMAP is the only way to go and feel there's no
reason to ever use POP3.

I'd assume that POP3 and IMAP are equally well supported on IOS, so I
think you're asking about the difference between POP3 and IMAP in
general. A Google search will turn up a lot of information. Here's a
good site which explains the difference and even gives some reasons why
someone might want to still use POP3 over IMAP
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2838189/two-good-reasons-to-stick-with-pop3-email-

over-imap.html

The big advantage to IMAP is that all of your email is always stored on
a central server. This way all of your email looks the same no matter
what device you use. If you delete a message or move it into a folder
then you're doing this on the server and all of your clients will be
synced to this server. IMAP is good if you're accessing your email from
multiple devices or multiple clients.

POP3 either leaves all of your email on the server and just downloads
copies for you to work with or downloads your email to a client and
removes it from the server. POP3 can be faster than IMAP. It's also good
if you don't trust cloud services or trust your email provider with your
email on their servers. POP3 is good if you have a central system where
you're downloading and keeping all of your email and your just checking
and reading your new email from other clients.

red spotted hanky app and railcard issue?

2015-06-02 Thread goshawk on horseback
hello all,
is anyone else having a problem with the red spotted hanky app, where you now
can't tell it that you have a railcard?
I have been using this app to get train tickets for some time, but over the
last few weeks, it seems to have developed an issue, where even though before,
it would recognize that I use a disabled adult railcard as standard, it now
doesn't, and I can't seem to tell it that I do still have the railcard. as it
now won't recognize that I do still use the disabled railcard, this means that
it doesn't come up with the discounted prices that it should.
has anyone else had this issue, and more to the point, has anyone found a way
to fix it.
I called red spotted hanky customer services about this issue with the app, but
found them as useless as the proverbial chocolate teapot.

Re: spotify question

2015-06-02 Thread Brett

Hi Don,

There are a few ways to do this, the easiest is to give the song a thumbs-up.
This will put it in to a "Liked from radio" playlist.

The next most common way would be to double tap the contex button beside the
song and choose "Add to playlist". Then choose the playlist you want to add the
song too.

Cheers,
Brett.

This is a good example of what happens when you hurry.
It looks like I missed the fact that the other two folders in the original zip

I will convert the rest when I get home on Saturday and put up a zip file with
all the tones instead of just the 27 I did.

It works fine. People like Imap because of the ability to sync across
platforms.

Subject: Pop 3 Email On An Iphone

I have heard that pop 3 either does not work at all, or not very well on an IOS
device, being that Apple allegedly considers it old technology. If it will
work at all, what does it not do as well as IMAP?

Thanks in advance for any information.

RE: A Very Excellent Source for Free Ringtones, Sounds, and Notifications

2015-06-02 Thread kliphzkorner
Has anyone gotten these to work on the iPhone? They are in OGG format, iTunes
wouldn't import them, so I changed the extension to .M4R, iTunes still won't
except them. What is the key?

Subject: A Very Excellent Source for Free RingTones, Sounds, and Notifications

Hello Everyone,

Recently, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 6. While it can never take the place
of my beloved iPhone 6 Plus, it is a very, very well-made and classy device.

The primary reason why these RingTones are made readily available is so that
those who wish to create what are known as custom ROMS can more closely mirror
the native manufacturers OS with regard to basic functionality.

Enjoy,

Mark

They need to be converted to m4a, then the renamed to m4r.
I will look at the file tomorrow and see if I can do this for you.

Re: Reading .brf Files With the iPhone

2015-06-02 Thread David Chittenden
Set your braille display to 8-dot braille output with dots 2 3 6 space. Make
sure you are not in contracted braille mode. Now, you will be able to read the
file in any of the file viewing apps.
