Word Shuffle question.
Hi all, For the past few days now, I haven't been able to get into the Word Shuffle app. Is it just me, or are others experiencing similar issues. I am a bit reluctant to uninstall/reinstall, as i am at over 100 in the levels side of things. and don't want to start over if i can help it. Any thoughts appreciated. The list of apps under file sharing does not read. So, if you arrow down the list, you hear nothing. However, If you are on an app that does not read, and you tab a number of times, You will get to the file and the date of the file that relates to that silent app you are on in the list. There is then an add button and a save as button. Of course, if you are not on the right app, you have to back tab to the silent list again, arrow up or down, and tab to the file name all over again. I don't use Ibooks. I use voice dream reader for my mp3 audiobooks. There are still a few features I like in Downcast, but on the other hand I really like how I can use SIRI with the native Podcast app especially when it comes to the command to skip or rewind. With the apple Podcast app I can say Skip 68 seconds and it will do exactly that so there is no need to find the correct button for a 15 second, 30 second or 2 minute time jump and I don't even have to unlock my phone to skip or rewind. Very handy when trying to skip past ads/sponsor announcements I heard a hundred times before. I do agree, however, that I can just as easily transfer a book to Voicedream Reader using iTunes file transfer than I can sync it to iBooks and Voicedream Reader is awesome for listening to MP3 audio books, the way you access skipping, rewinding, chapters and going to a particular point in the book is done super well. Re: KNFB reader and family sharing
Family sharing only works if you are the organizer, and while she still has her own account, any purchases she makes as part of the family sharing will go on your credit card. If you take her off the family sharing, then shared apps will no longer be available to her. The only way around this is for you to log in as yourself on her phone, download the app, then log her back in. Then, when KNFB has anupdate, it will require your password. If that is confusing, call Apple Accessibility and they can explain more how family sharing works. The bottom line is, so long as she is part of the family sharing account, all apps that allow family sharing will be available to her. But, there is no reason why she wouldn't be logged in under her own ID. Richard On Jul 26, 2015, at 8:51 PM, Donald L. Sorry for not being clear. Steps. Update iTunes in Windows 7 to the latest update. I happened to be using iTunes 32 on that computer not that it makes any difference in the library in the end. Make sure all purchases had been transferred to my iPhone and that everything was backed up. Copied the iTunes folder on my Windows 7 computer to an external USB drive. Installed iTunes 64 bit on my Windows 10 computer. Rebooted after the install just to make sure. Opened iTunes and added the iTunes folder on my USB drive to the iTunes library on the windows 10 computer with the add folder to library option. When this process was finished, I connected my iPhone and was asked if I wanted to trust this computer. I said yes both on my computer and on my iPhone. I was then asked if I wanted to authorize this computer to connect to my iPhone. I said yes, filled in the email and password, and I was told how many devices I now had connected to this iTunes. I then went to llook for my apps on the iPhone to make sure what was there. I was then presented with a list of apps I could either install or remove. I didn’t understand this at first because all my apps were already installed. I eventually realized that those that said install, were already on the iPhone and those that said remove were ones I had deleted but still showed up in the list. Given this discovery, I left things the way they were and pressed sync. I have to say that I did this with a bit of trepidation, because I hoped I had understood this correctly and that it was not going to remove apps from my phone. When the sync was finished, everything on my computer matched what was on my iPhone. I then went into preferences and set those the way I wanted them and not to the defaults which the new iTunes had loaded. I then backed up my computer both to the cloud and to my Windows 10 computer. Now, there is one caveat here. I don’t have a lot of music. This was basically to get my apps to the new library in Windows 10. I don’t know what happens to music that one may have stored on ones computer in various places that are connected to iTunes as simply pointers to the music in various folders on the old computer. There must be a way to do this by the way you allow iTunes to handle your music, but I am in no way an expert on this, so I am not sure what to say here. This much I can tell you. When I added the old library to the library on the windows 10 computer, I noticed that all my music titles said they could not be located. But once I synced with my iPhone, they appeared. So, please understand that I am not the person to talk with about one transfers a large iTunes music library to the new computer. It may work the way I did it. My fall back plan had this worked was to simply

Hey Ed. Have you tried Radium? I know a lot of people might disagree with me but if you don't need the other garbage that the native Sirius XM app provides like on demand programming and my SXM, I find Radium more accessible than the native app. I mean it is useful but it has a lot of unlabelled buttons so if you're like me and you don't feel like playing with the app and you just want to get to music, Radium is your best bet. Re: Twitterific navigation
The most efficient way I know of to get to the top and refresh the timeline is to double tab on the status bar at the top of the phone’s screen, you know, where the battery charge, network statuses etc are located. Then either find the first message and do a 3-finger flick down to refresh. When I open twitteriffic, I find that it does a refresh. So this step of flicking down to refresh doesn’t usually give me anything new unless I’ve been looking at messages and want to go back to the top and force a refresh after reading in my time line for a while. My fall back plan had this worked was to simply overwrite the iTunes folder on the Windows 10 computer with the one from my USB drive, but I didn’t have to do that. I’m guessing that if one keeps their music on their computer in one place that iTunes

Re: SIRI definitely requires improvements
Hello, When I want to find something on the web I use google almost all the time. When I want a piece of info from my phone, like a contact or opening an app, then I use siri. I am obviously over stating this. She is obviously better than that and Sieghard is right that she will set alarms and do other useful things. But if I had to think of the only way to ask my wife what she wanted for dinner tonight, she may starve in the process. Somehow, Google is more of a personal assistant in this way in that it seems to understand more ways of asking a particular question than Siri. I use her for what she is good at, but Google and Cortana are rapidly taking her place. Neal From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, July 26, 2015 10:45 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: SIRI definitely requires improvements Hi everybody, This goes back to the thread about SIRI and the question Neil asked about the latitude of Maddison, Wisconsin. I just tried this and asked SIRI “What is the latitude of Maddison, Wisconsin”. Just as Neil reported, SIRI came back “I don’t understand what is the latitude of Wisconsin”. I then asked “What latitude is Vancouver, British Columbia”. Notice the slight difference in wording “What is the latitude of…” and “What latitude is…”. Anyhow, SIRI came back with the answer promptly and when I asked in the same way “What latitude is Maddison, Wisconsin” SIRI also answered right away. Then I asked using the original wording which didn’t work “What is the latitude of Vancouver, British Columbia”. SIRI answered “The only possibility I found is Latitude Restaurant, is that the one you are looking for?” Then SIRI beeped waiting for me to say “Yes” or “No:” as if I had asked it to look for restaurants with that name. I use SIRI a lot and often like how well it works especially for dictation. However, sometimes it’s ridiculous how it gets simple things wrong or can’t deliver an answer which Google Voice Search has no problems with. I also still find more complex dictation is difficult and I can’t believe there still is no way to just spell out a word I know SIRI will get wrong. I really hope Apple puts some major effort into making SIRI better. They introduced this idea of a personal assistant, but considering SIRI has been around for almost 4 years it has gone through amazingly few real upgrades and it can’t even tell you the battery status on your phone and I still can’t easily set a 2-part reminder like this: Set a reminder on August 6 at 10 AM SIRI will say “Tell me what you want to be reminded about”, I say: Dentist appointment at 11 AM. This used to be possible and to me it sounds natural, but if I say it this way SIRI sets a reminder “Dentist appointment” for August 6 at 11 AM, it completely ignores that I said “Dentist appointment at 10 AM” and just interprets it the way it wants. If, however, I say this: “Set a reminder on August 6 at 10 AM about my dentist appointment at 11 AM” it creates it correctly, the reminder time is set to August 6 at 10 AM and the reminder text says “My dentist appointment at 11 AM”. Apple made such a big deal of how you can talk naturally to SIRI, but while you can set an alarm by saying many different things, a lot of other commands have to be delivered just so or SIRI will get it wrong. Steve Jobbs old adage “It just works” definitely does not apply here. Regards, Sieghard -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1
I wish they would stop breaking accessibility, it seems to become more and more difficult with each successive update of 12. Nothing seems to work right now except backup. Certainly getting into the app store is next to impossible and I’d much prefer to use the computer keyboard as compared to the virtual one. Too many tabs, and I most definitely preferred the previous app listing as compared to what we now have. Seems to me that Apple wants to make life difficult with iTunes anyway. I know that the full version of this app costs $40, and you unlock the full functionality of the app by buying the in-app purchase to unlock everything, but then you have a few in-app purchases that I'm finding a bit confusing. Re: KNFB READER
While probably not necessary to post, I can't resist. With the first public beta of iOS9, KNFB Reader worked poorly. Mostly the problem was that it would not take a picture unless one went into settings and toggled the camera allowance at least once. This was not always necessary and also would not always work. I was really starting to get worried because I stupidly don't have a recent backup so will be forced to stay with the public betas until the release. Well, not necessarily forced but I don't want to have to start from a fresh 8.4. Luckily, the problem seems to be solved at this point but I have only used it a couple of times. Face time help needed
I am teaching my wife the basics of IOS 8.4 on an iPhone 4S which she recently acquired. I have set up everything including wi fi and her own apple identity and password, everything except activating the phone. So I want to get her set up on face time since several other family members have either iPhones or iPads. But I seem to be missing a step. I went into settings and made sure that face time was on. I then put four persons in the contacts list, three of whom have iPhones and one who has an iPad. So I put the email address in for the iPad user and the phone numbers for the others. But now when I go into face time and select one of the names, I am told that it needs to be activated. Unfortunately, I do not understand the significance of this message since face time is turned on in the settings. What am I missing? Thanks. Re: strange issues with iOS 8.4 on the iPhone
ok, did the reboot. the phone is still a little slow to respond. Took over 10 seconds from the time I tapped the home key until it actually spoke. I tried the iTunes backup routine here earlier only to have my mac (using voiceover) lock up. I had to use Onyx just to clear all the caches and crust from the various parts of the OS. I don't have time tonight to do a backup and restore as I have to go into the DES office in the morning. -eric On Jul 26, 2015, at 4:26 PM, Chris Chaffin wrote: If you have already shut down the phone and restarted it, then the next step would be to do a soft reset by holding down the power button and the home button for about 10 seconds. It will automatically shut down and restart the phone. If this does not help, then you might want to consider doing an encrypted backup of your phone and then restoring it. Apple Watch bands
Hello list I listened to David Woodbridge's podcast. My assumption is thus that there does not come a band with the watch but one must buy it as an extra? It also sounds that these bands are a bit over priced. If I heard correctly that the cheapest watch costs about 449 US dollars it means the average leather band would cost between 30 and 50 percent of the cost of the watch. RE: 800 Number For Apple Accessibility Desk?
Fazil, You can contact the Apple accessibility team by email at accessibil...@apple.com mailto:accessibil...@apple.com . If you want to report bugs then that is the best way. Re: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1
Is there a way to backtrack to a previous version of iTunes? - Original Message - From: Neal Ewers To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, July 26, 2015 7:19 PM Subject: RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1 Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. Yikes! I do hope they fix this one. I will have to do it a few more times to get the hang of it and then perhaps by the time I am ready to describe it, they will release a new version of iTunes that works. We can only hope. It’s the other apps I can’t deal with. So are you saying that transferring apps from the phone to the computer is really possible but it is not accessible? I need to go look again. But, I think Apple has completely destroyed accessibility with this feature in the latest iTunes. I have written them and the folks at AI Squared. I wold suggest everyone else write Apple Accessibility and their screen reader manufacturer as well. This is completely nuts. Richard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Neal Ewers Sent: Sunday, July 26, 2015 2:25 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1 Hi, In an earlier version of iTunes, if you went to your phone, there were two columns of apps. One that showed what apps were on the phone, and the other consisting of apps which you could use to transfer data or music, etc. from your phone to your computer. In Windows, I can no longer find this second column. So, how does one, for example, transfer a file one has recorded on an app like BossJock or AudioMemos from the phone to a windows computer running iTunes 12.2. Thanks for any help.
