Word Shuffle question.

2015-07-27 Thread Bluesman02

Hi all,

For the past few days now, I haven't been able to get into the Word Shuffle
app.

Is it just me, or are others experiencing similar issues.

I am a bit reluctant to uninstall/reinstall, as i am at over 100 in the
levels side of things. and don't want to start over if i can help it.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Best regards,

Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under
file sharing does not read. So, if you arrow down the list, you hear nothing.
However, If you are on an app that does not read, and you tab a number of
times, You will get to the file and the date of the file that relates to that
silent app you are on in the list. There is then an add button and a save as
button. Of course, if you are not on the right app, you have to back tab to the
silent list again, arrow up or down, and tab to the file name all over again.
Yikes! I do hope they fix this one.

two columns of apps. One that showed what apps were on the phone, and the other
consisting of apps which you could use to transfer data or music, etc. from
your phone to your computer. In Windows, I can no longer find this second

iTunes 12.2. Thanks for any help.

Ok, now I get it. If one takes that watch it includes the sports band and the
price is 349$. Just for interest sake, the applewatch is not yet available here

cost 672 US dollar so someone here makes a lot of profit.

  Hi,

You are incorrect, a band does come with the watch, and they’re priced
differently depending on which band you choose.
The stand-alone bands are a little overpriced on my opinion, yes. The
cheapest is the sport band, while the link bracelet is the most expensive.

Hello list
I listened to David Woodbridge's podcast. My assumption is thus that there
does not come a band with the watch but one must buy it as an extra? It also
sounds that these bands are a bit over priced. If I heard correctly that the
cheapest watch costs about 449 US dollars it means the average leather band
would cost between 30 and 50 percent of the cost of the watch.

Apparently this app can access books you already have synced to your phone
and which now reside in iBooks and also Podcasts although I find there is
not too much wrong with the native Podcast app. I used to use Downcast, but
after I had to do a complete restore and set up my phone as a new phone when
I downgraded from the iOS 9 Beta, I decided to try and try some of apple's
native apps where before I used third-party apps. There are still a few
features I like in Downcast, but on the other hand I really like how I can
use SIRI with the native Podcast app especially when it comes to the command
to skip or rewind. With the apple Podcast app I can say Skip 68 seconds and
it will do exactly that so there is no need to find the correct button for a
15 second, 30 second or 2 minute time jump and I don't even have to unlock
my phone to skip or rewind. Very handy when trying to skip past ads/sponsor
announcements I heard a hundred times before.

I do agree, however, that I can just as easily transfer a book to Voicedream
Reader using iTunes file transfer than I can sync it to iBooks and
Voicedream Reader is awesome for listening to MP3 audio books, the way you
access skipping, rewinding, chapters and going to a particular point in the
book is done super well.

Hello Everyone,

A list member recently mentioned to me his solution to the iOS 8.4 iBooks
problem.

He is using an app called Bookmobile. Bookmobile is a dedicated audio book
and podcast player. It is designed for the true audio book enthusiast.

According to the list member, it takes some time to get familiar with the
somewhat unusual interface, but this solution features everything he needs:

sleep timer, playback speed, navigation controls, chapter support,
bookmarks, etc. Moreover, it is not necessary to copy the audio books into
the app as bookmobile can access ibooks and podcast data.

While it is free for evaluation, the price for the full version is $3.99.

Search for it in the App Store or visit the developer's website at:
http://freshmowed.com/bookmobile.html

If you like it, be sure to give it a positive VoiceOver review in the App
Store.

Enjoy,

Re: KNFB reader and family sharing

2015-07-27 Thread Richard Turner
Family sharing only works if you are the organizer, and while she still has her
own account, any purchases she makes as part of the family sharing will go on
your credit card.
If you take her off the family sharing, then shared apps will no longer be
available to her.
The only way around this is for you to log in as yourself on her phone,
download the app, then log her back in.
Then, when KNFB has anupdate, it will require your password.
If that is confusing, call Apple Accessibility and they can explain more how
family sharing works.
The bottom line is, so long as she is part of the family sharing account, all
apps that allow family sharing will be available to her.
But, there is no reason why she wouldn't be logged in under her own ID.

 Neal,

I'm a little concerned that you'll need to leave that USB flash drive
attached to your computer or the next time iTunes tries to access something
you copied from it, it won't be able to find the item. Maybe they've made it
harder to shoot yourself in the foot when adding stuff from portable drives
but I know with past versions of iTunes, I got into trouble by adding stuff
to the library from a flash drive that didn't stay attached to my computer.

I think Richard might have alluded to this in one of his posts to this thread
when he mentioned something about having iTunes copy the files to your main
 hard drive's folders.

I know when I set up my new computer in the next few weeks, I plan to
duplicate my iTunes Media folder structure on my new computer and then let
iTunes add everything from the main hard drive instead of from a flash drive.

I'm curious if you remove your source flash drive and then go into the list
of apps on iTunes, what happens. I think you said you mainly were copying
 apps from the flash drive.

Sieghard. Sorry for not being clear.

 Steps.

Update iTunes in Windows 7 to the latest update. I happened to be using
iTunes 32 on that computer not that it makes any difference in the library in
 the end.

Make sure all purchases had been transferred to my iPhone and that everything
 was backed up.

Copied the iTunes folder on my Windows 7 computer to an external USB drive.

Installed iTunes 64 bit on my Windows 10 computer.

Rebooted after the install just to make sure.

Opened iTunes and added the iTunes folder on my USB drive to the iTunes
library on the windows 10 computer with the add folder to library option.

When this process was finished, I connected my iPhone and was asked if I
wanted to trust this computer. I said yes both on my computer and on my
 iPhone.

I was then asked if I wanted to authorize this computer to connect to my
iPhone. I said yes, filled in the email and password, and I was told how many
devices I now had connected to this iTunes.

I then went to llook for my apps on the iPhone to make sure what was there. I
was then presented with a list of apps I could either install or remove. I
didn’t understand this at first because all my apps were already installed. I
eventually realized that those that said install, were already on the iPhone
and those that said remove were ones I had deleted but still showed up in the
list. Given this discovery, I left things the way they were and pressed sync.
I have to say that I did this with a bit of trepidation, because I hoped I
had understood this correctly and that it was not going to remove apps from
my phone. When the sync was finished, everything on my computer matched what
 was on my iPhone.

I then went into preferences and set those the way I wanted them and not to
the defaults which the new iTunes had loaded.

I then backed up my computer both to the cloud and to my Windows 10 computer.

Now, there is one caveat here. I don’t have a lot of music. This was
basically to get my apps to the new library in Windows 10. I don’t know what
happens to music that one may have stored on ones computer in various places
that are connected to iTunes as simply pointers to the music in various
folders on the old computer. There must be a way to do this by the way you
allow iTunes to handle your music, but I am in no way an expert on this, so I
am not sure what to say here. This much I can tell you. When I added the old
library to the library on the windows 10 computer, I noticed that all my
music titles said they could not be located. But once I synced with my
iPhone, they appeared. So, please understand that I am not the person to talk
with about one transfers a large iTunes music library to the new computer. It
may work the way I did it.
My fall back plan had this worked was to simply

Hey Mary. Thanks for the article. There were a few things that were a bit
useless to us, but things like low power mode, the search feature in settings,
and the new and improved Siri are awesome. I'm still waiting for Canadian beta
users to email me off list though because I want to ask them a country related

Re: SiriusXM app is it accessible?

2015-07-27 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Ed. Have you tried Radium? I know a lot of people might disagree with me
but if you don't need the other garbage that the native Sirius XM app provides
like on demand programming and my SXM, I find Radium more accessible than the
native app. I mean it is useful but it has a lot of unlabelled buttons so if
you're like me and you don't feel like playing with the app and you just want
to get to music, Radium is your best bet.

Re: Twitterific navigation

2015-07-27 Thread Mary Otten
The most efficient way I know of to get to the top and refresh the timeline is
to double tab on the status bar at the top of the phone’s screen, you know,
where the battery charge, network statuses etc are located. Then either find
the first message and do a 3-finger flick down to refresh. When I open
twitteriffic, I find that it does a refresh. So this step of flicking down to
refresh doesn’t usually give me anything new unless I’ve been looking at
messages and want to go back to the top and force a refresh after reading in my
time line for a while. Hope that made sense.

Alan, I thought of this, but decided to try it anyway. I do not have the
problem of iTunes any longer wanting my flash drive to be attached. It has
evidently copied all it needs to my C drive and I have done several things with

Neal,

I'm a little concerned that you'll need to leave that USB flash drive attached
to your computer or the next time iTunes tries to access something you copied
from it, it won't be able to find the item. Maybe they've made it harder to
shoot yourself in the foot when adding stuff from portable drives but I know
with past versions of iTunes, I got into trouble by adding stuff to the library
from a flash drive that didn't stay attached to my computer.

I think Richard might have alluded to this in one of his posts to this thread
when he mentioned something about having iTunes copy the files to your main
hard drive's folders.

I know when I set up my new computer in the next few weeks, I plan to duplicate
my iTunes Media folder structure on my new computer and then let iTunes add
everything from the main hard drive instead of from a flash drive.

I'm curious if you remove your source flash drive and then go into the list of
apps on iTunes, what happens. I think you said you mainly were copying apps
from the flash drive.

Sieghard. Sorry for not being clear.

Steps.

Update iTunes in Windows 7 to the latest update. I happened to be using iTunes
32 on that computer not that it makes any difference in the library in the end.

Make sure all purchases had been transferred to my iPhone and that everything
was backed up.

Copied the iTunes folder on my Windows 7 computer to an external USB drive.

Installed iTunes 64 bit on my Windows 10 computer.

Rebooted after the install just to make sure.

Opened iTunes and added the iTunes folder on my USB drive to the iTunes library
on the windows 10 computer with the add folder to library option.

When this process was finished, I connected my iPhone and was asked if I wanted
to trust this computer. I said yes both on my computer and on my iPhone.

have to say that I did this with a bit of trepidation, because I hoped I had
understood this correctly and that it was not going to remove apps from my
phone. When the sync was finished, everything on my computer matched what was
on my iPhone.

I then went into preferences and set those the way I wanted them and not to the
defaults which the new iTunes had loaded.

I then backed up my computer both to the cloud and to my Windows 10 computer.

Now, there is one caveat here. I don’t have a lot of music. This was basically
to get my apps to the new library in Windows 10. I don’t know what happens to
music that one may have stored on ones computer in various places that are
connected to iTunes as simply pointers to the music in various folders on the
old computer. There must be a way to do this by the way you allow iTunes to
handle your music, but I am in no way an expert on this, so I am not sure what
to say here. This much I can tell you. When I added the old library to the
library on the windows 10 computer, I noticed that all my music titles said
they could not be located. But once I synced with my iPhone, they appeared. So,
please understand that I am not the person to talk with about one transfers a
large iTunes music library to the new computer. It may work the way I did it.
My fall back plan had this worked was to simply overwrite the iTunes folder on
the Windows 10 computer with the one from my USB drive, but I didn’t have to do
that. I’m guessing that if one keeps their music on their computer in one place
that iTunes

Yes, I think Siri has been dumbed down to look for pizza places, coffee
shops, and a few other things that make money for businesses. I am obviously
over stating this. She is obviously better than that and Sieghard is right
that she will set alarms and do other useful things. But if I had to think of
the only way to ask my wife what she wanted for dinner tonight, she may
starve in the process. Somehow, Google is more of a personal assistant in
this way in that it seems to understand more ways of asking a particular
question than Siri. I use her for what she is good at, but Google and Cortana
 are rapidly taking her place.

 Subject: SIRI definitely requires improvements

 Hi everybody,

This goes back to the thread about SIRI and the question Neil asked about the
 latitude of Maddison, Wisconsin.
I just tried this and asked SIRI “What is the latitude of Maddison,
Wisconsin”. Just as Neil reported, SIRI came back “I don’t understand what is
 the latitude of Wisconsin”.
I then asked “What latitude is Vancouver, British Columbia”. Notice the
slight difference in wording “What is the latitude of…” and “What latitude
 is…”.
Anyhow, SIRI came back with the answer promptly and when I asked in the same
way “What latitude is Maddison, Wisconsin” SIRI also answered right away.
Then I asked using the original wording which didn’t work “What is the
 latitude of Vancouver, British Columbia”.
SIRI answered “The only possibility I found is Latitude Restaurant, is that
the one you are looking for?” Then SIRI beeped waiting for me to say “Yes” or
“No:” as if I had asked it to look for restaurants with that name.

I use SIRI a lot and often like how well it works especially for dictation.
However, sometimes it’s ridiculous how it gets simple things wrong or can’t
deliver an answer which Google Voice Search has no problems with. I also
still find more complex dictation is difficult and I can’t believe there
still is no way to just spell out a word I know SIRI will get wrong.
I really hope Apple puts some major effort into making SIRI better. They
introduced this idea of a personal assistant, but considering SIRI has been
around for almost 4 years it has gone through amazingly few real upgrades and
it can’t even tell you the battery status on your phone and I still can’t
easily set a 2-part reminder like this:

Set a reminder on August 6 at 10 AM
SIRI will say “Tell me what you want to be reminded about”, I say:
 Dentist appointment at 11 AM.

This used to be possible and to me it sounds natural, but if I say it this
way SIRI sets a reminder “Dentist appointment” for August 6 at 11 AM, it
completely ignores that I said “Dentist appointment at 10 AM” and just
interprets it the way it wants. If, however, I say this:

“Set a reminder on August 6 at 10 AM about my dentist appointment at 11 AM”
it creates it correctly, the reminder time is set to August 6 at 10 AM and
the reminder text says “My dentist appointment at 11 AM”. Apple made such a
big deal of how you can talk naturally to SIRI, but while you can set an
alarm by saying many different things, a lot of other commands have to be
delivered just so or SIRI will get it wrong. Steve Jobbs old adage “It just
works” definitely does not apply here.

 Regards,
 Sieghard

RE: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-27 Thread Rose Combs
I wish they would stop breaking accessibility, it seems to become more and more
difficult with each successive update of 12. Nothing seems to work right now
except backup. Certainly getting into the app store is next to impossible and
I’d much prefer to use the computer keyboard as compared to the virtual one.

Too many tabs, and I most definitely preferred the previous app listing as
compared to what we now have. Seems to me that Apple wants to make life
difficult with iTunes anyway. They seem to keep taking accessible features
away.

one to many at the same time by simply going down the list and checking the
ones I wanted or didn’t want. Now that list view only shows app sizes and while

Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under file
sharing does not read.

Re: Netflix Scrubber

2015-07-27 Thread Aleeha Dudley
The important thing to note is that the show or movie must be paused before you
interact with the scrubber. Then you can interact normally with the scrubber,
double tapping when you are finished. The show will then start playing again.

I'm a little confused by the different in-app purchases for MBraille.

2015-07-27 Thread Gmail
I know that the full version of this app costs $40, and you unlock the full
functionality of the app by buying the in-app purchase to unlock everything,
but then you have a few in-app purchases that I'm finding a bit confusing.
There's the one to make MBraille a 3rd-party keyboard, which I understand.
There's also the other one that gives you the third-party keyboard ability, but
it also has some kind of document management stuff. What exactly are the
document management things that you get with this in-app purchase? Can I buy
just the 3rd-party keyboard in-app purchase without buying the in-app purchase
that unlocks the full version of MBraille, or do I have to buy both?

Thanks
Ari

The full version will unlock absolutely everything, including the keyboard. The
keyboard with editing feature allows you to use the gestures for selecting text

Re: KNFB READER

2015-07-27 Thread gs
While probably not necessary to post, I can't resist. With the first public
beta of iOS9, KNFB Reader worked poorly. Mostly the problem was that it would
not take a picture unless one went into settings and toggled the camera
allowance at least once. This was not always necessary and also would not
always work. I was really starting to get worried because I stupidly don't have
a recent backup so will be forced to stay with the public betas until the
release. Well, not necessarily forced but I don't want to have to start from a
fresh 8.4.

Luckily, the problem seems to be solved at this point but I have only used it a
couple of times.

Hi,

Just start typing there name, then when you have several letters of their name
entered, run your finger down the right hand side of the screen from the top.
You will see the auto complete suggestions. When you find the one you want,
double tap it to enter the full name. Don't forget to press space before typing
the next word, or else they will be ran together.

Hope this helps,

Re: Apple Watch bands

2015-07-27 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi,

You are incorrect, a band does come with the watch, and they’re priced
differently depending on which band you choose.
The stand-alone bands are a little overpriced on my opinion, yes. The cheapest
is the sport band, while the link bracelet is the most expensive.

On Jul 27, 2015, at 2:48 AM, Fanus buys.fa...@gmail.com wrote:

Hi Johnna,

To add books, choose Add, which is a button in the lower left corner of the
screen. Then choose Bookshare, which is one of the last options. Then you
can choose Search to search for a book, or one of the browsing options. Once
you find a book, choose Download, and choose OK to leave the Add screen and
access your book.

HTH,
Anna

Apparently this app can access books you already have synced to your phone
and which now reside in iBooks and also Podcasts although I find there is
not too much wrong with the native Podcast app. I used to use Downcast,
but after I had to do a complete restore and set up my phone as a new
phone when I downgraded from the iOS 9 Beta, I decided to try and try some
of apple's native apps where before I used third-party apps. There are
still a few features I like in Downcast, but on the other hand I really
like how I can use SIRI with the native Podcast app especially when it
comes to the command to skip or rewind. With the apple Podcast app I can
say Skip 68 seconds and it will do exactly that so there is no need to
find the correct button for a 15 second, 30 second or 2 minute time jump
and I don't even have to unlock my phone to skip or rewind. Very handy
when trying to skip past ads/sponsor announcements I heard a hundred times
before.

I do agree, however, that I can just as easily transfer a book to
Voicedream Reader using iTunes file transfer than I can sync it to iBooks
and Voicedream Reader is awesome for listening to MP3 audio books, the way
you access skipping, rewinding, chapters and going to a particular point
in the book is done super well.

Sieghard

Hello Everyone,

A list member recently mentioned to me his solution to the iOS 8.4 iBooks
problem.

He is using an app called Bookmobile. Bookmobile is a dedicated audio
book and podcast player. It is designed for the true audio book
enthusiast.

According to the list member, it takes some time to get familiar with the
somewhat unusual interface, but this solution features everything he
needs:

sleep timer, playback speed, navigation controls, chapter support,
bookmarks, etc. Moreover, it is not necessary to copy the audio books
into

the app as bookmobile can access ibooks and podcast data.

While it is free for evaluation, the price for the full version is $3.99.

Search for it in the App Store or visit the developer's website at:
http://freshmowed.com/bookmobile.html

If you like it, be sure to give it a positive VoiceOver review in the App
Store.

Enjoy,

Mark

The stand-alone bands are a little overpriced on my opinion, yes. The cheapest

My truly funny experience was that one morning I

BTW, my late husband was in the hospital which was why I was trying to wake
him up so I could tell him something I had read after I
had talked to him the evening before.

My other strange experience was asking Siri for directions to 56th Street
and Washington in Phoenix, Arizona. She gave me
directions to Washington State instead, it was 400 miles away! My cousin
and I had to laugh. By the way, her android phone did
 exactly the same thing!

Just wanted to tell you that Siri seriously impressed me today for the first
time in a while. I really stopped using him/her
because things didn't seem to work well. However, today I needed to remove
a recurring event from my calendar (Fantastical) and
didn't quite see how to do it! IN the end, I asked Siri in the best way I
knew how (can't remember exactly the wording I used) and,
Siri did it! I then said, Thanks, Siri. You did well, and I got a
human-type response to that also! Smiles

I do hope that Siri becomes easier to use and that we can express things in
more ways, rather than having to learn so many of the
ways to ask Siri to do something.

The most efficient way I know of to get to the top and refresh the timeline
is to double tab on the status bar at the top of the phone’s screen, you
know, where the battery charge, network statuses etc are located. Then either
find the first message and do a 3-finger flick down to refresh. When I open
twitteriffic, I find that it does a refresh. So this step of flicking down to
refresh doesn’t usually give me anything new unless I’ve been looking at
messages and want to go back to the top and force a refresh after reading in
my time line for a while. Hope that made sense.

Face time help needed

But now when I go into face time and select one of the names, I am told that it

In order to activate FaceTime you have to sign in to face time with her Apple

The most efficient way I know of to get to the top and refresh the timeline is
to double tab on the status bar at the top of the phone’s screen, you know,
where the battery charge, network statuses etc are located. Then either find
the first message and do a 3-finger flick down to refresh. When I open
twitteriffic, I find that it does a refresh. So this step of flicking down to
refresh doesn’t usually give me anything new unless I’ve been looking at
messages and want to go back to the top and force a refresh after reading in my
time line for a while. Hope that made sense.

Double tap and hold puts you in editing/moving mode. Once you have done the
double tap and hold make sure the app you want to delete has focus and then
double tap again, now you should be prompted whether you want to delete the app.

Re: strange issues with iOS 8.4 on the iPhone

2015-07-27 Thread Eric Oyen
ok, did the reboot. the phone is still a little slow to respond. Took over 10
seconds from the time I tapped the home key until it actually spoke.

I tried the iTunes backup routine here earlier only to have my mac (using
voiceover) lock up. I had to use Onyx just to clear all the caches and crust
from the various parts of the OS. I don't have time tonight to do a backup and
restore as I have to go into the DES office in the morning.

If this does not help, then you might want to consider doing an encrypted

Apple Watch bands

2015-07-27 Thread Fanus
Regards
Fanus

Re: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

2015-07-27 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Is there a way to backtrack to a previous version of iTunes?

Well, this is where the accessibility breaks down. The list of apps under
file sharing does not read. So, if you arrow down the list, you hear nothing.
However, If you are on an app that does not read, and you tab a number of
times, You will get to the file and the date of the file that relates to that
silent app you are on in the list. There is then an add button and a save as
button. Of course, if you are not on the right app, you have to back tab to the
silent list again, arrow up or down, and tab to the file name all over again.
Yikes! I do hope they fix this one.

I’d like to know how you managed to get the app you wanted to add a file to
your computer

I could never get the app I wanted selected.

OK, After much playing around, file sharing is still with us, but boy, it is
almost impossible to do and doing it at all is not easy. I will have to do it a
few more times to get the hang of it and then perhaps by the time I am ready to
describe it, they will release a new version of iTunes that works. We can only
hope.

Yes, I can do AudioMemos via the web. It’s the other apps I can’t deal with.

So are you saying that transferring apps from the phone to the computer is
really possible but it is not accessible?

I think audio memos might have a way to do this with your browser.

I need to go look again.

But, I think Apple has completely destroyed accessibility with this feature
in the latest iTunes.

I have written them and the folks at AI Squared.

I wold suggest everyone else write Apple Accessibility and their screen
reader manufacturer as well.

  This is completely nuts.

Richard, so is there no way to do this? How then, I wonder, does one get such
files from one’s phones to one’s computer?

I mentioned this earlier. I don’t think you can in this latest version.

Subject: Question about file sharing in iTunes 12.2.1

Hi, In an earlier version of iTunes, if you went to your phone, there were
two columns of apps. One that showed what apps were on the phone, and the other
consisting of apps which you could use to transfer data or music, etc. from
your phone to your computer. In Windows, I can no longer find this second
column. So, how does one, for example, transfer a file one has recorded on an
app like BossJock or AudioMemos from the phone to a windows computer running
iTunes 12.2. Thanks for any help.
