Sieghard,

I really like these. I've found some of the less useful ones which so
often are just accomplished with a double tap and one or two of yours,
but not all.

I'm getting to like this feature as I find it more useful.

or selfi with 3D touch, for the Skype app there is a "New call" and "Dialpad"
option which pops you straight into the appropriate screen, for Messages you get the two most
recent people you texted with and a new message option, you already mentioned the mail app which
has a new message option as well as a shortcut to pop straight intot he Unread messages
mailbox. Also, if you want to search for an app or redeem a gift card those are two options
available when you hard press on the app store app. I like the search feature here because it puts
focus into the search field whereas if I open the app, I then have to double tap the search tab and
then find the search field at the top and double tap on that to put focus there and bring up the
on-screen keyboard. Here one hard press and a double tap on search will put me right there ready to
type in my search term. Of course getting to Redeem also involves quite a few taps if you first
open the app because you then have to make sure the Featured tab is selected, touch it to put focus
there and then swipe left 4 times to get to the Redeem button.

Now that it has been out for a while, for those of you who have an iPhone

situations? I ask because, even though I thought I would use it for some things

you found 3-D touch so useful that it has replaced muscle memory and old habits
with new ones?

Some of the developers understand that. The reason I am asking is that they
feel that there is not enough interest they may have to increase the price
of the App on the Apple TV, as there is a lot of work that goes into
creating a game that will work with VoiceOver. The general consensus is that
the market of Blind users with Apple TVs is very small, and they need to
make their money back to develop for the ATV interface, and controls. Some
of them also said that if they can they will keep the price down. They just
want to know what the price point is.

The way they are handled in the app store is reasonable in my opinion. Why

unreasonable. I myself never pay more than $4.99 for any app, no matter

Re: Creating A Playlist In IPhone6Plus?

2015-12-17 Thread Richard Turner
To create a play list on your iPhone:
1. open the music app.
2. Double tap on the play list tab at the bottom of the screen.
3. Double tap the new button, which is about in the middle of the screen.
4. Fill in the title you want for your play list.
6. flick right to where it says "add songs" and double tap. Note: it doesn't
say it is a button, it just says "add songs."
7. You then double tap on the category you want, Artists, Albums, songs, Genre,
music videos, etc.
8. When you find a song you want to add, flick up with one finger and you will
hear, "add song to play list." Double tap and it will say "song added." Note
that if you want to add an entire album to the play list, or everything by an
artist and you are in the albums or artist category, flick up on the album
title or artist's name and when you hear "add song to play list," double tap
and you will hear "song added to play list" and it will add the entire album or
that entire artist, etc.
9. When you have added all you want, find the done button in the upper right
and double tap, then check to see if there is still another done button and
double tap it. You usually have to do the done button twice.

I hope that helps,
Richard

I don't see what browser and screen reader the original poster is using.
Just remember that Apple has their own browser and screen reader, so if you're
trying something like JAWS with Internet Explorer then see if the experience is
better with Safari and VoiceOver. Apple may be a large wealthy company, but
they still have finite resources, and I'd think they'd prioritize their web
development and testing of their own sites with their own products before that
of their competitors.

RE: IOS 9.2

2015-12-17 Thread rubyalphonse
Hi Christofer, I tried restoring this I phone after backing up in I tunes, I
got the phone to be set as a new phone as Sieghard wrote, I still didn't get
back, the backup from the I tunes. the phone was alright for Two days, and from
this afternoon the voice over is studdering again, already twice I had to
reboot and press the power button several times to get the voice clear. I think
I must buy a new phone, although, I don't like the idea of buying, But thanks a
lot. Ruby

You might want to try backing up your phone, syncing everything with a
computer and then restoring your phone to factory settings, restoring
your most recent backup and then re syncing your phone with your
computer. This will take a little while, but it's something worth trying
before getting a new phone.

Hi Gera, I have I Phone 5 with 16 GB. I have 11.66 gb still free. I am careful
I didn’t even install any applications I liked, I am using this phone only for
Phone calls, text messages and Cam find. I think of buying another phone,

to go in for 64 GB otherwise, I don’t want to buy. So, you see! It is very
expensive for me. We don’t have contract way of getting a phone in India.

RE: IOS 9.2

2015-12-17 Thread Richard Turner
Two last things to try before maybe taking it to Apple to have them diagnose
the problem assuming you haven’t done that already.

1.Flush the RAM as described in a previous post by holding down the
power button until you hear “power off” then release the power button and hold
the home button in until you are back on the home screen, which takes only a
few seconds.

Then, if that doesn’t work, go into settings, general, reset and reset all
settings.

If that doesn’t work, it sounds like a phone problem and might be worth taking
to Apple and seeing if they can repair it or give you a trade-in for a new
phone.

Good luck in either case,

Richard

Well, this morning I just got a message from someone from the Baum company in
Germany. The message was written in English, but the German voice read it. So,
it's very interesting. I should take the German voice out of my rotor and see
if that still happens.

Re: Language switching, what makes that happen?

2015-12-17 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

The default voice will switch to other language voices depending on how a
message or website is tagged. If you don't want it to switch, put another
English-speaking voice on the rotor and switch to it. Then it won't switch
languages regardless of the language tags in the material you're reading.

Best,
Anna

Thanks Anna,
That makes perfect sense. It is only when I have the default voice selected
that I hear the language switching. It has nothing to do with what languages
are in the rotor.
I might write Apple and request that they offer an option to enable or disable
language switching in the speech settings, the way it is with some Windows
screen readers.

Hi,

The default voice will switch to other language voices depending on how a
message or website is tagged. If you don't want it to switch, put another
English-speaking voice on the rotor and switch to it. Then it won't switch
languages regardless of the language tags in the material you're reading.

Best,
Anna

The Phone App

2015-12-17 Thread SSEric
How far have we come when a phone becomes an option on a phone...

Is there a way you can have voice mail always play through the speaker?

Also, there is one phone number I receive calls from daily and sometimes
multiple times in a day. I don't especially want to delete all recent calls,
but I would like to keep that number from showing up. Anything I might do?

All thanks to everyone!

Eric

Re: The Phone App

2015-12-17 Thread John Diakogeorgiou
Regarding the call you don't want to come up, you can block that
number. To do this, go to phone, recent, and find the number you want
to block. Once you have done this, swipe right once to options. Within
the options you will find a block call option. Choose this and you
will be set to go.

Re: IOS 9.2

2015-12-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, I think your best bet now is probably to take it to an Apple
store. One more thing you could try though would be to restore the phone
back to factory settings and then set it up without restoring from your
back up. This would be a lot of tedious work, but it's possible some
combination of memory used, settings and applications installed is
hitting some rare bug causing your stuttering problem. Like I said, this
would be a lot of work and you could just end up back where you started,
so a trip to the Apple store or looking into a new phone may still be
the way to go. Another advantage to a newer phone is that you will see
improved performance in general.

You might want to try backing up your phone, syncing everything with a
computer and then restoring your phone to factory settings, restoring
your most recent backup and then re syncing your phone with your
computer. This will take a little while, but it's something worth trying
before getting a new phone.

What model of iPhone are you seeing this on? I find that on my 4S, the
downloading and installing of updates to my apps is quite processor
intensive, so I'd get VoiceOver stuttering when this was happening, and
this went back to IOS 8. To fix this, I just install apps manually and
do it when I won't be using the phone very heavily so I can just set it
down and not worry about VoiceOver stuttering.

I also saw this with the IOS 9.2 betas even when I wasn't downloading
and installing apps. It corrected itself over time, as I did a few
cycles of clearing out the App Switcher and powering off the phone.

or half a day or sometimes Two days even, but, studders again. I tried
unmuting for a minute and then put the speech on again, still it is the
same. Is it my phone’s fault or the updates, when I was using IOS 8 I
had no problem at all, I feel badly for updating. I thought 9.2 will be
fine, I in fact waited for an update thinking voice over will be fixed,
but it isn’t. Please let me know what you all think about this, and give

Re: The Phone App

2015-12-17 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Not sure if this would work, but make the number a contact, put just a space or
a dot in the first name field and leave the rest
blank. Then it will only show as a blank space, or a dot. Won't prevent
arousing interest I dare say, but it wouldn't be on
display as such.

Subject: The Phone App

How far have we come when a phone becomes an option on a phone...

Is there a way you can have voice mail always play through the speaker?

Also, there is one phone number I receive calls from daily and sometimes
multiple times in a day. I don't especially want to delete all recent calls,
but I would like to keep that number from showing up. Anything I might do?

All thanks to everyone!

Hello,
Actually, not that tedious. You can reinstall all your apps through the ID
history (I did this, it works) and then customise the device through settings.
Just set it up as new, as Christopher said, then when on the home screen, just
open app store, open the purchased tab, and install. Then, customise. I thought
it would be much worse, but I got it done in like an hour, and I don't
consider myself as an apple expert, but I am sometimes surprised how much I
know, since the end of September.

That's true. I was also thinking of things like network settings,
passwords and all of the changes you make in the settings. I know I've
set many of them years ago, and it might take me a while to wonder why
my phone is acting a certain way and try to figure out what setting I
changed a year or so ago.

Thanks John and Rob!

I do need to take the calls, so blocking the number is not an option. It is
just that I use the recent calls list as sort of a time line for various
projects. I guess the real solution is to find another way of keeping that
information elsewhere so I can clear all calls at one time.

Thanks again!

FW: VoiceOver User Unable to Pause Recording

2015-12-17 Thread Alan Lemly
Below is the response I got from the DropVox developer regarding my issue
with single finger triple tap not working to pause a recording. Apparently,
this is an issue with iOS 8.x so I'll have to wait it out or upgrade and
deal with other inconveniences I'm not quite ready to face.

I did write the developer back to tell him I didn't think a two finger
double tap gesture would work as a pause replacement for VoiceOver users
since that's pretty much reserved to play and stop media and to answer phone
calls.

Hey Alan,

I'm sorry for the trouble. Indeed the pause gesture is very unreliably. It
worked perfectly in iOS 7, but something changed in iOS 8 and now it doesn't
work well. We're looking to change the pause gesture to a two-finger
double-tap when VoiceOver is enabled. My iOS developer is very busy, so I
don't know when I might have this fix available, but I'll let you know.

Hello DropVox Support,

I am running iOS 8.3 on an iPhone 6 using DropVox version 2.1.1.

I have read your help articles and as a VoiceOver user understand that if I
want to pause a DropVox recording, I should be able to single finger triple
tap the record button to pause and single finger double tap this button to
resume a recording. However, this does not work for me. A single finger
triple tap does stop the recording but the timer readout is reset and the
recording is uploaded to Dropbox immediately. This is the same behavior as
stopping the recording as opposed to pausing the recording.

I really need to be able to pause and resume a recording with DropVox so
that I end up with only one saved file which includes the starts and stops.
I have been unable to figure out how to do this as a VoiceOver user and am
hoping you can help. I have been seeking other apps that will allow me to do
this but have yet to find anything as easy to use as DropVox.

Thanks so much for your help with this question.

KNFB Reader to be Discounted 25% from 12/21/15 - 1/4/16

2015-12-17 Thread Alan Lemly
I received a message from the NFB today with the following statement:

"From December 21, 2015, through January 4, 2016, you can purchase KNFB
Reader for $74.99, 25% off the store price."

This is an excellent app for capturing and recognizing text which is spoken
to you on your iDevice and I strongly recommend anyone who doesn't have it
to take advantage of this special starting December 21st.

I wholeheartedly agree. Also, if you do what I did you can usually find some
iTunes gift cards at a discount and apply them to the purchase. My daughter
found a $100.00 gift card for around $85.00 and I used it to buy the KNFB
Reader app on another occasion when it was $74.99. That was a real good deal.

Subject: KNFB Reader to be Discounted 25% from 12/21/15 - 1/4/16

I received a message from the NFB today with the following statement:

"From December 21, 2015, through January 4, 2016, you can purchase KNFB Reader
for $74.99, 25% off the store price."

This is an excellent app for capturing and recognizing text which is spoken to
you on your iDevice and I strongly recommend anyone who doesn't have it to take
advantage of this special starting December 21st.

2015-12-17 Thread Jeffrey Turner
Hello List,

I have recently spotted a return to mail, and sometimes a return to messages
button in the status bar when I have opened a link in either of those aps.
It's tucked way up in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, and returns
you right back to where you came from, without having to exit Safari, go
back to your home page, and then reopen the ap you were in. Maybe this is
something everybody already knows about, but I don't remember seeing it on
the list, and stumbled on it by accident myself, so wanted to share in case
others hadn't seen it.

RE: KNFB Reader to be Discounted 25% from 12/21/15 - 1/4/16

2015-12-17 Thread Connie Mohney
Good evening everyone.

Here is an e-mail I got about the KNFB reader and the NFB news line.

Connie

Looking for holiday ideas? Give the gift of print this holiday season through
NFB-NEWSLINE and KNFB Reader.

Tell a friend or family member about NFB-NEWSLINE! NFB-NEWSLINE now offers over
350 newspapers like the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the New York Times;
along with breaking news from news sources such as CNN, BBC, ABC News, CBS News
and ESPN Online; and over 50 magazines like Time, Smithsonian, Reader's Digest,
Every Day with Rachel Ray, PC World and Macworld. There are also TV listings,
job listings, emergency weather reports, and weather forecasts, not to mention
retail ads from Target and our holiday ads from Giant, Home Depot, Kohl's,
Publix, Sears, Staples, Toys R Us, and Walgreen's. Tell a friend about
NFB-NEWSLINE, or better yet, help them sign up by calling (866) 504-7300 or
visiting www.nfbnewsline.org. Give the gift of print through access to news and
information with NFB-NEWSLINE. And it's still free to use and free to sign up!

KNFB-Reader is another way to give the gift of print. KNFB Reader is a mobile
app that reads print aloud. It's easy to use. Take a photo and the app reads
the text aloud in clear synthetic speech. And it's fast-the print will be yours
almost instantaneously. KNFB Reader will be on sale for $74.99 from December
21st through January 4th. This sale price of 25% off makes it the perfect gift
for a friend or family member.

Giving KNFB Reader as a gift is easy! You can obtain iTunes or Google Play gift
cards at many local retailers such as Target or Walmart, or online at
Amazon.com. To learn more about giving KNFB Reader as a gift this holiday
season, visit www.nfb.org/knfbreader.

Why use this app? The KNFB Reader is an easy, fast, accurate, and efficient
text recognition mobile app that delivers near instantaneous results. Tired of
being unsure what's been charged to your credit card? Want to know who sent you
that package? Need nutritional information from a food label? Find a book
that's not available in audio format? Buy a new appliance and want to access
the user's manual? KNFB Reader is your go-to: it has reading modes for books,
articles, labels, bills, and memos. Worried about getting a good photo of your
text as a blind person? KNFB Reader provides a field of view report and tilt
guidance for more accurate capturing of print in the photograph, as well as
automatic text detection. You'll get the right photo; KNFB Reader will help
you. The app allows for high quality digital output to speech or connected
Braille displays. The scanned material can be imported as a .jpg or .pdf, or
exported in .txt and .html formats. Not much space on your phone? No problem.
Use cloud storage for your files via Dropbox or Google Drive! The app also has
a batch scan mode to process and read multiple-page documents such as manuals
or books. Don't let print be out of your reach ever again.

Make the print yours, live the life you want, and have a wonderful holiday
season and a happy new year from your friends at NFB-NEWSLINE.

The KNFB Reader is developed by the National Federation of the Blind and
Sensotec NV.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between
blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not
what holds you back.

Re: problems with zello

2015-12-17 Thread Jonathan Mosen
This is the reason I gave up on Zello. If I forgot to quit the app after using
it, I might miss important notifications because everything was being routed to
the earpiece. I've reported the bug but they seem unable or unwilling to fix it.

NBA league Pass

2015-12-17 Thread Andy Baracco
Good news!
NBA League Pass, and League Pass audio are now completely accessible via the
NBA app. I and others have been conducting a dialogue with the developer and
they finally listened. Now I can listen to my Warriors games. Go Warriors!

Birthdays in contacts and Siri

2015-12-17 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi

I haven't been using the feature a lot, adding birthdays to a contact. The
other day I tried this for the first time, and after doing so, I asked Siri
when the person's birthday was. To my surprise she could tell me when the
birthday was, so I started adding more birthdays to my contact. One strange
thing though: I added the birthdays in such a way where I have the proper birth
date of the person, e.g. 4 May 1956. Asking Siri how old the person was, she
could tell me the correct age, but asking her in what year the person was born,
she did indeed not know the answer to that one. Why would this be, as the
birth date is in the contact, and she is actually calculating the correct age
with that information? It was also interesting to find that, if I only added a
birthday to the calendar, not via the contacts, she did not find that birthday
somehow.

Regards

Jan Kleinhans

I think it was pretty cheap at the convention this year as well. Should have
taken it when I could.

Yeah,

I got it at the $49.99 price.

Glad I did too. It hasn't been that low sense.

Actually earlier this year it was on for a short time at $49.99. I think it was
some Apple app pick or something. $29.99 is probably unlikely for the
foreseeable future.

Well, there's something that's telling me you should ignore that inner voice.
KNFB reader has never been discounted below $74.99 so far and I'd be very
surprised if it ever dropped to the price you stated.
