Re: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Kimber Gardner
One thing to keep in mind is you could by something like 3 or 4 amazon
bt keyboards for what you would pay for one Logitech. I never used a
Logitech keyboard so can't speak to the quality, but I am very happy
with my amazon keyboard and at $25 or so the price was just right.

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Rose Combs
The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems because it is
squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is worth it, once
I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like the Apple
keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been able to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch that was
tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first generation
I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it would be there, I
would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's birthday, he
never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't know how
but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for several
months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

Hi Keith,

I'm not sure why this is happening. You can't delete the Watch app, as it's
built into the operating system. Is your watch connected to your phone when you
are trying to move apps? Open Glances on the watch and move to Settings. Make
sure VO says the watch is connected to the iPhone.

I’m stumped.

Hello,
I just tried this to make sure I was right. You do it just like you move an app
on the iPhone. You go to the Watch app on your iPhone. You select app layout.
You double tap on the app you want to move. You do not pick up your finger
after the double tap. You drag your finger to where you want to app to be.
Voiceover will say moving app and then, as you said in your email, it says
upper left etc. When you pick up your finger, the app should stay where you
moved it. Let me know if this makes sense.

Re: Voice Dream Reader

2016-02-02 Thread Alan Lemly
Ed,

It sounds as if you're reading a Bookshare book with voice dream reader. If so,
there is a bottomline menu in voice dream and you should place focus on the
navigation unit button which is at the right of this menu. When it has focus,
do a single finger swipe down on the screen to cycle through the navigation
unit choices and stop at chapter. Now place focus on the play button which is
to the left of the navigation unit button and double tap to begin playback.
Now, a single finger swipe down on the main screen will cause you to jump
forward the set navigation unit, chapters in your case. This should take you
past that protection warning at the start of all Bookshare books.

Good luck.

RE: Applewatch app layout - how to change?

2016-02-02 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Yes, Anna, the watch has been connected.

I conceptualize the apps as being horizontally arranged, left to right.

I’m confused by the upper left, upper right, lowere left, and lower right
announcements. Can you please explain this?

Sounds like I’ll be calling Apple Accessibility.

One other question: Could I have too many apps on the Watch? I don’t think I
have that many compared to others, like David Woodbridge as announced on his
recent AppleVis podcast.

Re: Applewatch app layout - how to change?

2016-02-02 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Keith,

I believe the app arrangement is more like concentric circles with the watch
face in the middle. And I don't know of a limit on how many apps are on the
watch. I generally ask Siri to open apps so I don't have to worry about how
they're arranged.

Best,
Anna

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Rose Combs
My reason for buying the Amazon Basic keyboard is the fact that the on-off
switch turns off, the Apple I have one cannot tell if it is on or off and if
one needs to take with it could be on in a suitcase forever and one would not
know it.

Re: Voice Dream Reader

2016-02-02 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

Another way to skip the copyright info is to double-tap the bookmarks button in
the lower left corner of the screen. Now all the chapters are listed on the
screen. Double-tap the one you want to go to.

Best,
Anna

Dear Rich,

The disruption in service was caused by a merger of our map providers. The

out if we can reestablish our agreement with the new map provider. We have
pulled the app from the app store.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

dear sir,

I hope that you get this post this time. I did send email to other department
because I was on your website and looked for tech support, and was unable to
find and I saw “order” and I went ahead and placed a post to ask for email
address for tech support, but haven’t heard since last november.

I have enjoyed using sendero lookaround app in my iphone 6 and I use while I
ride on access. I check to find out where I am. it is wonderful.

by the way, lately I tried lookaround app last week and something went wrong. I
shook few times and I tried the tags, but nothing as location, near corner and
and others, but nothing as it reads no lookaround. I tried compass and it
works. I checked setting and tried to figure but nothing.

I talked with blind tech trainer last week and he said he would check later and
get back to me. so I haven’t heard.

until last night my wonderufl friend, eddy emailed to ask me about it. I told
him that I have problem. eddy said he has similar problem. I ddy and I assume
that there is bug in lookaround app right now.

are we hgaving to wait until you have to upgrade new versionh? I have upgraded
ios up to 9.2.1 right now.

is there something that we should be aware of?

I have used sendero lookaround app as I enjoy it a lot. I did test everything.
when I wanted to test my house number as it should be 2869 castlegate ave,
pittsburgh, pa 15226. somehow, it shows 3135 castlegate ave. there is nothing
like this because my house is the last on the corner and there is an old school
across street from my house as the school is closed. there is no 3135 as I
know. my next door is 2867.

I do hope that the upgrading the version might be better sooner. thank you!

respectfully,

rich

I like them because they are solid I know what I am hitting and because of the

I heard they are starting to become a thing with gamers. I think I'm too young

The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems because it
is squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is worth it,
once I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like
the Apple keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I
learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been able to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch that
was tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first
generation I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it
would be there, I would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's birthday, he
never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't know
how but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for
several months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

Please Join Me in Requesting That a Significant VoiceOver and iOS Twitter App Bug Be Resolved

2016-02-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries mailing
list.

A couple of months ago, a new feature was added to Twitter, called Moments.
Essentially, Twitter Moments is a birds-eye view of current events happening
around the world. It's really quite an exciting way to easily follow
trending issues of the day on a variety of subject including news, sports,
entertainment, etc.

If you log into your Twitter account using your preferred web browser, you
will discover the Moments tab located near the top of the browser window.

However, should you open the native iOS Twitter app, the Moments tab is
nowhere to be found. This has been perplexing me for a while now until I
discovered the problem, said problem being a bug between VoiceOver and the
Native Twitter app.

I will paste in the bug report I posted to the iTunes App Store, following
my signature and I invite everyone to please submit a review to the App
Store describing this bug. Feel free to use any or all of my report in your
review.

Also, I encourage all of you Twitter users to send a tweet to both @support
and @twitter from within your preferred Twitter client, addressing this
issue.

With so many important world events taking place at this time, I feel that
it is most urgent that we, as blind and low vision citizens, be part of the
conversation.

Thank you,

Mark
[BEGIN BUG REPORT]
A Bug With Twitter Moments and VoiceOver in iOS

Twitter moments is one of the most exciting new features now being enjoyed
by thousands of iOS Twitter app users.

However, when VoiceOver, Apple's software screen reading solution for the
blind and low vision, is enabled, the Moments Tab, does not appear. In
order to get the Moments Tab to be displayed, VoiceOver must first be
disabled, then the Twitter app must be launched, then, VoiceOver re-enabled
at which time a Twitter warning message appears prompting the blind or low
vision person to close and restart Twitter with VoiceOver enabled. Of
course, doing this will cause the Moments Tab to, once again, disappear.

I urge Twitter to address this accessibility bug as soon as possible.
[END BUG REPORT]

Another way to skip the copyright info is to double-tap the bookmarks button

the screen. Double-tap the one you want to go to.

focus, do a single finger swipe down on the screen to cycle through the
navigation unit choices and stop at chapter. Now place focus on the play
button which is to the left of the navigation unit button and double tap to
begin playback. Now, a single finger swipe down on the main screen will
cause you to jump forward the set navigation unit, chapters in your case.
This should take you past that protection warning at the start of all

Good luck.

Hi!
That method is faster if you're using only Bookshare books or have
properly formated page elements in the books you have. However, if
you use other kinds of documents, books in docx or txt format than
your method makes sense. Both methods are good and correct and it is
good to know them both.

I really don't know how to describe how big it is to be perfectly honest. The
keys are pretty close to being as large as the computer keys, there are just
not as many of them. On the top left, there is the escape key, but then the
next three keys are devoted to a specific device that you pare with.

Hope this makes sense,

keyboard, you can be certain that the keyboard is off. Openning the
cover powers it on instantly. It works great with my iPHONE6 with no
lag at all. Currently, it's on Amazon for around $60 Canadian. It has
a rechargable battery which is said to be good for around 6 months of
normal use. It won't collapse and isn't a foldable keyboard. It's
around 85% the size of a full desktop keyboard. Very sturdy and
durable. Key travel is also reasonably good especially considering how
thin it is.

My wife Sara like her Keys To Go bluetooth keyboard. It's thinner and
lighter than mine. I haven't played with it so can't really give more
details. There's quite a nice range of choice out there. Best of luck
with whatever you choose.

BBC iPlayer app

2016-02-02 Thread Andrew Roberts
Hi,

Is there anyone out there using the BBC iPlayer app on iPhone and iPad?

I have been trying to watch programmes with audio description and the only way
I have found to be able to do this is to go to categories, select audio
description from there and then select the programme you want to watch. The
only problem is that by doing that, if you want to go back further than the
latest episode you would need to select the more episodes option. If you then
play an earlier episode you get it without audio description and I can't see a
way of turning it on. Does anyone know if there is a way to get AD on earlier
episodes than just the latest one? It is possible to do this using the web
player for Windows as the option to turn it on is below the download button of
each episode.

Any help greatfully received.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Voice Dream Reader

2016-02-02 Thread Pinky
Hi Group,

In Voice Dream Reader and you first bring up a book it plays all the stuff
about copy rights and all that stuff. How do you get past all this stuff and
get to the first Chapter? When I put chapter in the navigation unit it says
it is adjustable. How do you change the chapters? Any ideas or suggestion on
how you guys all do this would be appreciated.

You can easily stop the doubling of key strokes with the Amazon Basics
Bluetooth keyboard keys.

1. Open Settings.

2 Open General.

3. Go to accessibility.

4. Open Keyboards. and Turn off key repeat.

Sense I did that, I haven't had any problem with my Amazon Basics Bluetooth
Wireless Keyboard.

I just connected a new Amazon Basics keyboard and a Aftershokz headset. When
trying to enter info to register for Lyft, I am getting all double letters and
when I backspace both letters are being erased. I have reset the phone, turned
off the keyboard, still getting double letters when I type.

Also where are the arrow keys, not obvious to me at this point!

When I got my 5s, the guy at the A T and T store told me that for the best
results, wash your hands first with soap and water. So I did that and it
worked just fine. From time to time I may have a problem with the sensor not
reading my finger print and I get a try again message. If it fails the second
time, I know the tries are limited so I'll go wash my hands and all will work
again. Hope this suggestion works for you too!

Oh, I put batteries in and after trying to connect several times decided I had
put them in backwards, turned them and voila, it worked. I just sort of knew
that would happen! Seems like it happens a lot, I figure out the wrong way
first. My late husband used to laugh or get annoyed with me because I seemed
never to get it right the first time, unless I took them out first, if none
were there to begin with I did it wrong.

RE: Applewatch app layout - how to change?

2016-02-02 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Thanks very much.

I can successfully move apps on my Home Screens.

In AppleWatch Layout, all works as you describe, but when I lift my finger to
drop the app and recheck the layout, it hasn’t moved.

This persists after a hard reset, and reset network settings.

I’m stumped.

I’m tempted to delete the Watch app and reinstall, but am hesitant to do this
as I don’t know what it will do to my Watch setup. I wouldn’t want to go
through that again if I don’t have to.

Thanks, Keith

Hello,
I just tried this to make sure I was right.

Hi,

I can’t seem to figure out how to change app layout on my Applewatch.

I go to the Watch app on my phone, go to app layout. It says to double tap and
hold, then drag app. I do that, get announcements like Upper left, Lower right,
or Right of World clock, but then nothing I do seems to make it stick. The apps
are always still in their original position. I’ve looked for an Edit button on
that screen, but there doesn’t seem to be one.

Any insights appreciated .

Re: iphone 6s fingerprint reader

2016-02-02 Thread Alan Paganelli
When I got my 5s, the guy at the A T and T store told me that for the best
results, wash your hands first with soap and water. So I did that and it
worked just fine. From time to time I may have a problem with the sensor not
reading my finger print and I get a try again message. If it fails the second
time, I know the tries are limited so I'll go wash my hands and all will work
again. Hope this suggestion works for you too!

I never have had an Amazon basics, but the keyboard I have is my favorite one

My Amazon bt keyboard works fine for me. I purchased that and 4 triple A

Re: Amazon Basics keyboard double letters

2016-02-02 Thread Alan Paganelli
You can easily stop the doubling of key strokes with the Amazon Basics
Bluetooth keyboard keys.

1. Open Settings.
2 Open General.
3. Go to accessibility.
4. Open Keyboards. and Turn off key repeat.

Sense I did that, I haven't had any problem with my Amazon Basics Bluetooth
Wireless Keyboard.

HTH.

Re: Applewatch app layout - how to change?

2016-02-02 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Keith,

I'm not sure why this is happening. You can't delete the Watch app, as it's
built into the operating system. Is your watch connected to your phone when you
are trying to move apps? Open Glances on the watch and move to Settings. Make
sure VO says the watch is connected to the iPhone.

Best,
Anna

Re: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Brent Harding
I'm not sure why they're hitting the gamer community by storm now. Maybe
it's because they're more durable, and those guys don't want to keep buying
keyboards all the time as they wear out the keys their games use the most.

I wonder why people like the so called mechanical keyboards that are
expensive? I heard they are starting to become a thing with gamers. I
think

I'm too young to have remembered those.

The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems because
it
is squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is worth
it,

once I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like
the Apple keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I
learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech
something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been able
to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch
that

was tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first
generation I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it
would be there, I would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's birthday,
he

never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't know
how but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for
several months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Logitech K810 has the Windows key layout with a Windows Start key, Alt and
Control. You can use it with an iOS device, but Logitech does make the same
keyboard for iOS as the model K811 and if you are buying it for use with iOS
devices I recommend it over the K810. I also have a K811 and it is a very nice
keyboard and while I haven't seen an Amazon Basics, I think they all are about
the same size whether it's Apple, Logitech or Amazon Basics. The Logitech feels
very solid and well-made just as most Logitech products do. The on/off switch
is a slider switch on the right side of the keyboard and there is no way it
would turn on automatically in a pack or bag as it is a pretty stiff switch.
The new Apple keyboard, by the way, also now has a switch and rechargeable
battery and no longer the button which can easily get pushed and 2 Double A
batteries.

Re: Amazon Basics keyboard double letters

2016-02-02 Thread terrie arnold
it is not just with an M as in keyboardist with the Apple keyboard as well it's
a glitch in the new iOS I came not this one with the one before it, the only
way to get out of that, is to turn voiceover on and off and it will clear it up
for a while but you may have to keep doing that several times as you use the
keyboard unfortunately Apple has not fix this little happy little bug in iOS so
yes you have to turn voiceover on and off to clear up the double others and
fortunately
