RE: Can I Hook Up An External Portable Hard Drive to My iPad Mini?

2016-08-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Evan,

I don’t intend to bash other list members, but I don’t think you received the
correct information from anybody at this point. The short answer is No, you
can’t hook up external hard drives. The slightly longer answer is that there
are USB sticks which plug into your Lightning port and there are Wi-Fi enabled
hard drives as well as network attached storage devices which allow you to
access their information.
The big restriction with any of these is that you will need to use whichever
app is designed too work with the device you purchase. This means you can’t
buy a Wi-Fi enabled hard drive, put all your music on it and then access said
music from the music app on your device. Similarly you couldn’t buy a 64 Gb or
128 Gb USB stick with a Lightning port, plug it into your device and access
the ffiles on it from just any app. You typically would have to download the
app from the maker of your USB stick or hard drive and inside that app you
ccan then see all the files on your sstorage device provided of course the app
is accessible which is not a given.
Another option is to pay for say 1 Tb of Dropbox storage or buy an Office 365
subscription from Microsoft which comes with 1 Tb of OneDrive storage. You can
then have all your files in the cloud with one of these services and use their
apps which are quite accessible to access the content. If it is mostly music
you have there is an app called Cloudplayer (among others) which gives you a
pretty good set of features and it allows you to access the music in Dropbox,,
OneDrive, Google Drive etc.
Jonathan Mosen also has a blog article on his website about significant
accessibility improvements for the Synology Discstation. This is a company
which makes 2-bay and 4-bay network attached storage devices. Apparently the
interface to manage these is now much more accessible and according to Jonathan
they also have an accessible iOS app which would give you access to all your
music and I assume other files as well. But once again, it would be from inside
their app and not with the stock Music app.
Apple has relaxed some of their restrictions, but they still don’t allow you to
access the file system the same way you can in Windows or Android.

Good luck,
Sieghard

I was looking around on Amazon and I’ve found external portable hard drives for
Macs, but they don’t mention whether I could use them with an iPad.
Is that feasible? I’d like to expand my storage. A 1TB drive would be just
great, but 500GB would be okay.
Thanks.

RE: latest itunes

2016-08-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Well, while it may not all be up to Freedom Scientific or VFO or whatever they
are called now, it is both the responsibility of Apple and the screenreader
makers. I sure hope that VFO is having talks with Apple about iTunes
accessibility since only they can tell Apple what Apple needs to do so that
they can do what they must do.
Apple used to point out that iTtunes worked best with Window Eyes, but I think
for a while before Windo Eyes became part of VFO Jaws was actually working at
least as good or better and now that both screenreaders are under the same hat
so to speak I really hope Apple and VFO get their wires crossed in a way that
is going to result in an improvement to accessibility and not a reduction.

Hi. Has anyone gotten the latest itunes to function with jaws? I talked to
apple accessibility and their take is that since we’re using jaws, it’s their
problem.

No, not wireless adapters, but wired adapters that hook into the lightning port

Re: Blindfold Racer issue

2016-08-30 Thread Hope Paulos
Hi Paul! If you close the game out of your app switcher, and reopen it, it will
tell you everything you need to know as to how to steer. Basically, you hold
the phone in landscape mode, with the home button to the right. Ensuring you
have headphones plugged in, you steer just like you would a regular steering
wheel, on a car.

Is that feasible? I’d like to expand my storage. A 1TB drive would be just
great, but 500GB would be okay.

Hi Jen,

No, they don't fold up, I think they came with a soft draw-string bag for
carrying them around (but I could be remembering something else).
I'm not sure you really need any carrying case, there aren't any parts/pieces
which you need to keep together; the only wires are contained inside of the
main body of the headset.

First go into your trash mailbox, double tap on edit. Now go to the bottom

RE: Spectrum TV App

2016-08-30 Thread Rob
I am sure it is like all other cable providers in that you have to have an
account subscription with the provider to use the app.

The merger of Time Warner and Charter will take several months if not years to
roll out to all areas. I am very sure you will know when Charter services come
to your town.

Hmmm, can anyone get this, or is it like Time Warner where you have to have
Charter to have it. Can Time Warner customers get this thing yet? I know their
app has gone backwards in accessibility in that I can't get on demand to play
any more from ios. This solution might be better.

Hello,

Has anyone had any experience with this app? I just recently subscribed to the
Spectrum Stream which is Charter’s answer to Sling TV. The app is pretty
accessible, and with at least TBS it has the ability to swap to the Spanish SAP
feed and get video description. It doesn’t seem to be able to do the same for
the local networks. So, trying to find out if it’s Charter not doing this in
the app .. or my local channels not passing it on. Just wondering if anyone
else has used this app and if they are getting the DVS feeds ..

Thanks ...

RE: Bluetooth Headphones

2016-08-30 Thread Chip Orange
Hi Jen,

No, they don't fold up, I think they came with a soft draw-string bag for
carrying them around (but I could be remembering something else).
I'm not sure you really need any carrying case, there aren't any parts/pieces
which you need to keep together; the only wires are contained inside of the
main body of the headset.

I didn't go all the way into the depths of the process, but I think
you would go into the my account section of the music app then sign in

Re: Canceling Apple Music

2016-08-30 Thread Daniel L. Gervais
Hi Don,

Kim was right as you do have to open the Music app, and on the top left corner,
you will find the My Account button. Click on that and then on View Apple ID.
You will need to sign in with your password.

Then when the page is loaded, find the section titled Subscriptions and below
that will be a link for Manage. Select this link and this will bring you to
another page that will show your Apple Music subscription. All that you really
need to do is to find the section that relates to Auto-Renewal and uncheck this
box. That is it, you will still have Apple Music until the expiry date but
once that date passes, Apple will stop charging you for the subscription.

Hope this helps!

Don,

I didn't go all the way into the depths of the process, but I think
you would go into the my account section of the music app then sign in
with your apple id and password. You may have to poke around a bit,
but I'm sure it's in there, or rather you will be taken to a web site
where you can accomplish what you want to do.

You can go into Settings -> Cellular and turn off cellular data. You can
also turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi.

My Apple devices don't support wifi calling. I'm worried that I've been
talking about wifi calling on this list when I thought I was talking about
it on an Android list. If so, I apologize if I said anything incorrectly,
and I hope and I'm sure someone will correct anything I said.

Re: Fantastical 2

2016-08-30 Thread Monica Jones
I hope you got answers. I kept hearing how great this app was and I got it,
but it jumps around way too much for me. I find the day I want and then the
event, but then it jumps me back to something I didn't want at all, months
ahead or back. This happens no matter how I set my rotor. For me, it isn't
better at all than the native calendar. I just stuck with it and deleted
Fantastical2.

I bought Fantastical 2 because it sounded great, but how do I go
directly to a list giving me only my pending appointments? I can
find last month, next year, next month ... and all I want to see is
what is pending. So far fantastical isn't giving me any more than
the native calendar. I'm sure it's user error. could someone please
set me straight?

want to delete, then slide left. This does actually delete the
item.

You are correct, in that entries
in the reading list area cannot be deleted using VoiceOver.
It has been this way for quite a while now. For this reason,
I no longer use it. I definitely would use the reading list
if I could delete items from it.

Hi!
I hope this is called Read List in English, I use my
phone in Croatian so I'm improvising xD.
I'm talking about the option in Safari to add pages I
want to read later or offline to Read or Reading List. I
can successfuly add some pages there but I'm not able to
delete them. When I flick up or down I hear Delete but
when I confirm it with double tap nothing happens. Can
  someone clarify on this one?
The other one is Social Links or however is it called, it
is in the same place as Reading List, just another tab. I
have imported some sites there and as in previous topic, I
can't delete them. Here I don't even get the option to
delete. I'm noticing there's always just a hundreed of
items so I believe this works as FIFO but Icould use
  confirmation on this.
Thanks!

Re: App to create a zip archive of several Dropbox mp3 files?

2016-08-30 Thread Alan Lemly
Many thanks, Chris. The Winzip
App is very accessible and was well worth the $5. All I had to do was start the
app, select Dropbox, navigate to the appropriate folder, select edit from the
Winzip screen, mark the 19 mp3 files I wanted to zip, and then select the
default file name and wait several minutes while it created the zip archive.
The resulting file plays beautifully in voice dream reader.

Thanks again.
