Re: Question on Comcast app

2016-10-08 Thread David Goldfield
Regarding the newer TV app, the grid, once you get used to it, should be easy
to use. To get to the grid, press the "main menu" button and choose either Live
TV or All Listings. Once the grid appears, the names of each channel are
presented vertically, down the far left of the app. To the right of each
channel are the various times for a particular program. Currently, you can't
just flick right with one finger to move from one program on that channel to
the next and so you'll need to swipe with three fingers to the left to keep
moving the grid forward, using explore by touch to examine the shows which have
focus. This is an area I hope to see improved in future versions of the app.
Beyond this, the app's accessibility is quite good and I think you'll be
pleasantly surprised as to how nice it is to use.

Re: Mega Storage with iPhones?

2016-10-08 Thread Lynette frison

Hi Shane,

Perhaps it depends on the format of the video. I know Apple is really picky
about the formats it will play. Android isn't, so perhaps that's the issue? I
was thinking alternate services such as google drive or drop box, but again, I
think it would depend on the format. I'm pretty sure AVI files won't play in
Safari, for example, so it wouldn't matter what service you used, it wouldn't
work. You could upload the video to youtube and make it private so that only
people you share the link with would have access to it.

Re: Moving apps around and placing them into respective folders?

2016-10-08 Thread Richard Turner
Here is my summary of how it works.

Touch the app you want to move.

Flick up once and you should hear, Arrange apps.

double tap.

Then, do a two finger double tap and it should say something like choose a

destination for the app.

Now, use your normal method to get to where you want the app.

If a different page, just do the three finger swipe to get there.

Touch where you want the app. Even if you want it in a folder, just touch the

folder, don't open it.

Flick up with 1 finger and you will hear options like, place after x app, or

before x app, or put in x folder, whatever you want to do, just double tap with

one finger and wala, it is done.

Richard

Hi,
I believe you can turn off the amber alerts at the bottom of the
notifications settings area under settings but you can't disable government
or presidential alerts if you're in the US which I'm assuming you are.
So for instance if there was a major weather warning or some other
governmental issued safety alert you'd get it regardless.

I hope this helps.

RE: Amber Alerts???

2016-10-08 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Found it.
Go to settings, go to notifications.
Then flick right until you see government alerts.
The first one past that is amber alerts.

Re: Amber Alerts???

2016-10-08 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I believe you can turn off the amber alerts at the bottom of the
notifications settings area under settings but you can't disable government
or presidential alerts if you're in the US which I'm assuming you are.
So for instance if there was a major weather warning or some other
governmental issued safety alert you'd get it regardless.

I hope this helps.

Re: Facebook accessibility address?

2016-10-08 Thread Sadam Ahmed

To their credit they've done a pretty good job with using keyboard
access to navigate around the desktop.

Haven't tested VoiceOver on OS X but on Windows using IE or Firefox
works great.

Not being able to read links on ones Timeline is a huge step backwards
though.

What's the bet they fix it in the next update only to brake it again.

Another change I've noticed is that they no longer tell users what's changed in

Question on Comcast app

2016-10-08 Thread Karen Poulakos
I recently made a change from Direct TV to Comcast. I really liked the
Direct TV app, but we moved, and Comcast gave us a better price.

Now I'm trying to figure out the Comcast Apps. I have the TV Remote and TV
Go apps on my phone. I can't seem to find a TV listing by date and time.
I'd like to be able to look ahead to see what's on later in the day, or the
next couple of days. I did find a grid, but couldn't make any sense of it.
Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

Karen P

Re: Mega Storage with iPhones?

2016-10-08 Thread Shane Clark82
Hi Lynette,
I'm actually an Android guy, and a good bit of my friends have iPhones. I
tried sending my brother a video through Mega, and he tried opening it up
through his Safari browser, and it wouldn't let him. I think it asked him
to download the app in order to watch it, but I don't think he was really
interested in doing that. I'm looking for something that when I send
someone a link, it opens up for them, and they can just hit play, and it
works. If that makes sense.
Thanks so much, Shane.

RE: App to access Windows computer with iPhone was Re: looking for an app

2016-10-08 Thread Alan Lemly
Carol,

To be quite honest, FileBrowser is what I last downloaded to my iPhone. I
really don't use either it or Tonido much at all after getting Dropbox Pro
service and its very long arms and compatibility with the apps that I use.

Believe me, I'm not capable to do any sort of meaningful comparison between
FileBrowser and Tonido. I answered the thread because the original poster
seemed interested in an app to do the sort of things FileBrowser does.

Alan,

I too used to use Tonido but haven't for a while, basically because it wasn't
working for me and I forgot what I was doing with it ...

Why do you prefer File Browser? I'd love a comparison of the two from
you, if you can spare the time and energy.

Thanks.

Re: Facebook accessibility address?

2016-10-08 Thread Sadam Ahmed

Hi Mary,

Do let us know how you get on.

The latest update to the iOS app certainly introduces some major
accessibility issues as it relates to VO.

Going to write to them as well.

Wish I could role back to a previous version of the app, but I believe
the process of doing so has become rather convoluted since iOS 9.

Another change I've noticed is that they no longer tell users what's
changed in the app in the release notes when updating which can be
disconcerting.

Here's hoping the problems are addressed soon.

Kind regards,

Sadam Ahmed

Re: Mega Storage with iPhones?

2016-10-08 Thread 1baby1...@gmail.com
Hi, Shane,

I have the Mega app, and it works really well for me, although I've had trouble
trying to share folders with people. But I can listen to audio and video just
fine. If you don't want to sign up for a Mega account, you should be able to
click on the link someone shares with you and the file will play in your
browser. If you want to access a folder full of files, you'll have to sign up.

"Cooking" every time I changed screens, moved to the first app on a screen, moved from
the main screen into the doc, etc. This behavior had then replicated itself to my other devices.

Apple accessibility was not able to find a solution, so I heard a lot of
"Cooking".

I am very happy to say that when I updated to IOS 10, as with Carol, this
annoying behavior is gone.

So if anyone else is having some kind of strange buffering behavior, it may be
worth upgrading. It definitely was for me.

Rich Links in iMessages

2016-10-08 Thread Christina C.
Hi,

I have googled this and I can’t seem to find any helpful info. I absolutely do
not like the way imessages is handling links. iMessages is changing links into
fancy Rich Links. I am having a lot of trouble with these things. If I send a
link to someone sometimes the link does not even take them to the page I sent
them. I know I sent the correct link because it won’t work on iDevices using
iOS 10 but the links works perfectly in iMessages on Macs still on El Capitan.

The second problem I am having is that voice Over is changing the text that
goes along with the link. Sometimes I send text, then the link and that text
dissappears to voice Over but I’m not sure if it’s there visually to a sighted
person.

The third problem is that I don’t know how to get the information I need from
this Rich Link via voice Over. All voice Over might say is amazonperiod. or
something like that.

I’d appreciate any tips or help to navigate these rich links.

Thanks,
Christina

I attempted to read the iPhone webpage on the Apple site and iphone user guide
on IBooks and my iPhone dims then locks using the 30 sec auto lock setting on

For whatever reason, using the method described above, continuous reading is

I first discovered this, last night, while reading the Apple TV User Guide.
The same phenomenon occurred when I tested my hypothesis with the iPhone
User Guide for iOS 10 and iPhone User Guide for iOS 9.3.

At first, I thought it was some kind of issue with titles produced by Apple
but I tested a recently published (non Apple) title, that has a web link
imbedded in the text, and, just as with the Apple manuals, after less than 1
minute, the screen locked and reading ceased.

It should be noted, that the hyperlinks that exist in the Table of Contents,
used to jump to a specific area, does not cause interruption to the
continuous reading feature. I say this because titles in my Library,
containing only such links, read as expected.

Steps to Reproduce:

1.
>From Settings/General/Display and Brightness, set Auto Lock to 30 seconds.

2.
In iBook, open the Apple TV User Guide and, from the table of contents,
select Home Sharing; or, open the iPhone User Guide for iOS 10 and, from the
table of contents, select Basics.

3.
Once the desired page is displayed, perform the two-finger swipe-down
VoiceOver gesture to initiate continuous reading.

As I said, in my testing, each time either an imbedded hyperlink or heading
is encountered, a short time later, the screen will lock and reading will
stop.

Please confirm if this occurs during your testing.

I would like to note that, this problem does not occur when using the Speak
Screen accessibility feature. While certainly useful in some instances, the
Speak Screen feature is not my preferred method for reading iBook titles.

Moving apps around and placing them into respective folders?

2016-10-08 Thread Jim Portillo
Howdy,
SO, a week into the new iPhone and new IOS 10 and I'm running into an
interesting issue. I downloaded some new apps that need to go into folders I'd
created a while back on my older iPhone and IOS. When I double-tap on the app
and hold, a message comes up saying something about dismissing shortcut menu.
I'm guessing there's a new way of moving apps. Where can I find directions or
a tutorial on how to do this?
Also, what about deleting apps? I can't seem to do that either.
Thanks.

I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 10.1 beta, and I cannot reproduce this bug. I
changed by auto lock to 30 seconds, then wt into the basics part of the iPhone

RE: Annoying Buffering Behavior Gone in IOS 10

2016-10-08 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Thanks, Carol. It is definitely a relief. I still have the old behavior on my
iPhone 4S and a first generation iPad mini which I can't upgrade to IOS 10, but
at least it's gone on what I can upgrade.

Since this happened on a relatively new iPad which I hadn't done much set up
on, I had actually tried erasing everything and setting it up as new, and that
still didn't work. So, needless to say, I am very happy, and glad yours is now
working also!

Oh, Pam, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I think, honestly, I'd have
cured it if I'd wiped my phone and reinstalled, but I couldn't be
bothered to do that, knowing that an upgrade was just a few weeks away,
so I left it and my decision was the right one.

Anyway, I am glad you are also sorted now.

Mega Storage with iPhones?

2016-10-08 Thread Shane Clark82
Hi guys,

Quick question, does anyone know if the app Mega works with watching a
video on the iPhone? Some people say all you have to do is open the link
that someone sends you and the browser, and it works. Others have told me
that you have to download the app, but it doesn't work for some reason. So
just thought I would ask here.

Thanks for any and all input, Shane.

Re: Annoying Buffering Behavior Gone in IOS 10

2016-10-08 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
Oh, Pam, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I think, honestly, I'd have
cured it if I'd wiped my phone and reinstalled, but I couldn't be
bothered to do that, knowing that an upgrade was just a few weeks away,
so I left it and my decision was the right one.

Anyway, I am glad you are also sorted now.

When I read Carol's recent post about Voiceover reading text that seemed to be trapped in the
buffer, it reminded me of a somewhat similar situation I was having. After I apparently had used
the wrong gesture to label a folder called "Cooking", Voiceover would say
"Cooking" every time I changed screens, moved to the first app on a screen, moved from
the main screen into the doc, etc. This behavior had then replicated itself to my other devices.

Apple accessibility was not able to find a solution, so I heard a lot of
"Cooking".

I am very happy to say that when I updated to IOS 10, as with Carol, this
annoying behavior is gone.

So if anyone else is having some kind of strange buffering behavior, it may be
worth upgrading. It definitely was for me.

E.U phones can work in the U.S, but at a huge premium. Don't do it. By a
p.a.y.g simm on arrival and put that in your phone.
Sieghart knows some that cover Ca, and Us; I remember a guy from his area - Las
Mesa - keep offering them and they did look a good
deal.

For sure it is the only way to go when visiting over there.

Hello list,

please, I need some urgent info from people either living in the U.S. or
those who went there for a trip. My brother got job in the US and leaves
in a few weeks. He takes his cellphone, but he needs to find out a few
things:

1. Do cellphones purchased in Europe work with U.S. carriers?

2. Do European carriers have coverage in the U.S.?

3. Does anyone know any good carriers selling prepaid sim cards
including enough data for good price?

4. Is there anything else he should know?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

With nd regards,

Maria

RE: Off-topic, please, I need your urgent help

2016-10-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
One thing he definitely does not want to do is use whatever plan he has from
your country in the US, the roaming charges will be brutal.
I am quite sure T-Mobil has prepaid cards and his phone should work fine with
T-Mobil or even AT, not sure if it wold work with Verizon and it's very
unlikely it will work with Sprint as they are still using CDMA and all european
phones are GSM phones.
It will be best for him to go to a T-Mobil store once he gets there (many large
malls in the US have one) and to ask what is his best option for the 2-months
that he is ther.

Take care,
Sieghard

RE: fit bit

2016-10-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I certainly agree that an Apple Watch might be a better option, but I am sure
for some on the list the fact that it costs 3 times as much is a factor. I
believe the least expensive Apple Watch you can buy is the first generation
Apple Watch which has been updated with the new processor but still costs I
think $269 in the US. You can buy a Fitbit Charge for $130 to $150 and a Fitbit
Flex for $80.

stil tramendous accessibility bugs in the fb app

2016-10-08 Thread Davy Cuppens
Hi folks

Please do not update the fb app till version 64.0. That version is quite good
but 65 and 66 have a lot of accessibility issues of which the most important is
that most content that is shared is nolonger spoken. As many of us reported
this fatal bug and fb did not even solve it in the latest update yesterday, one
can expect that accessibility is nolonger an item for facebook nowadays.
Regards
Davy
