Hello Everyone,

Recently, Twitter introduced a new accessibility feature called Night Mode.

As posted by I-Accessibility, Quote, Twitter for iOS has updated their app
with a feature called Night Mode that changes the app's color scheme to
allow for higher contrast text. This feature allows for users to read tweets
easier by showing text on a dark background with light colored text. ...
Turning on this feature will instantly switch your device to Night mode, End

Unfortunately, as was the case when Moments was introduced, the Night Mode

Please join me in requesting that Night Mode be made available even when
VoiceOver is enabled.

Post your request in the App Store as a review, send a tweet to both

Thank you,

RE: Clearing All Notifications

2016-10-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Andy,

Not sure what iPhone you have, but if you have one that supports 3D Touch you
can press down a bit harder on the “Clear Notification” button at the top right
(next to where it has the heading “Recent Notifications”. This will bring up a
shortcut menu which contains one item and it is “Clear All Notifications”.
Double tap it and all notifications go away.
I guess it is possible that on phones that do not have 3D Touch a double tap
and hold may do this or maybe even a one-finger triple tap.

Take care,
Sieghard

Hello all,
As promised, I am back with my findings. This may sound very weird, because it
was weird to me, but when I went into my account tonight I found out that my
fitbit had not been paired via Bluetooth to my iPhone. I have the new iPhone 7
and though the fit bit was connected, it was not paired with my iPhone. As soon
as I paired it, I was able to see my current heart rate and my resting heart

questions re the Alexa app

2016-10-11 Thread Donald L. Roberts
I bought the Amazon Echo a couple of months ago and really enjoy it. I
did, however, have to install the Alexa app on my iPhone 6 in order to
get the Echo activated.

Unfortunately, the size of the app keeps growing because all of the
various Echo commands I have used are saved in that app. Surely there
is some way to delete the past usage history. Please tell me how it is
done. I realize I could call Amazon tech support, but if possible, I
would rather hear how it is done from someone familiar with
accessibility considerations.

Thanks.

RE: Backing Up Phone

2016-10-11 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Lynda,

I would do an encryption backup with iTunes if you have a pc. By doing an
encryption backup it will save your passwords and everything just as your
iPhone is when you do the encryption backup.

The encryption backup is better to do then the iCloud backup.

Accessing Text Attributes

2016-10-11 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
I'm taking a course with material in .pdf. I know that VDR opens and
reads the text of a .pdf. But I need to be able to access the
attributes of a text selection e.g., bold, underline, italics. Does
VDR do this? Or is there a different app accessible with VO that will
help me work with text attributes?

Thanks,
Dani

Concerns regarding the Outlook app, and email addresses

2016-10-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I am very frustrated over something, and I am really hoping someone can
help me.

I have a 5 S, not that I think it matters in this case. It is updated to
the latest update. I use the Outlook app on my phone now, because I
prefer it over the mail app.

I usually send emails from my phone, as it is just easier a lot of the
time. Most times I don't have trouble. I think I could work around the
issue. But I don't know how I did it.

Anyway, when I go to send a message, and I write in the to field, it
lists suggestions,. A good amount of the time the suggestions are wrong.
So I just write in the address completely, thinking that this will fix
the problem. But rarely does it fix the problem.

For instance, I am writing to you all from my laptop, because I can't
seem to send mail to this address, using the app.

Also, I could add this account back to the mail app, and struggle along
that way. But I am not interested in doing this.

For some reason, there are addresses to people I haven't ever written,
or maybe to someone I have written once. But I don't even know how these
addresses got in there, because a lot of them are addresses from a long
time ago.

How can I fix this issue?

How can I find all of these addresses, and delete the ones I don't want?

Also, can I add addresses that I do want?

I looked at the people section to see what was in there. It was nothing
helpful. Just some contacts from my Iphone, and a bunch of unnamed
contacts, with no information inside. One day I need to work to get rid
of all that.

Anyway, of course, my laptop recognizes when I go to type in an address.
But that's Thunderbyrd. So I figure this is completely different,.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I am very frustrated with this
whole thing, and at the end of my rope.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: an Uber question

2016-10-11 Thread Andy Baracco
I find lyft to be a little cheaper. Also, if you have some partial vision,
lyft tells you the color of the car in addition to the make, so if you have
enough vision to determine color you will have an easier time identifying
the vehicle.

Hi guys:
I’ve only used Uber to go from point A, to point B. My question is can
you use Uber to run several different errands at once without having to
call for multiple trips? If so, how can you do this in the app, then
find the Uber driver once you exit your stores?
As an example, I call Uber, want to go to the grocery store, will be
there only 5 min to grab milk and bread. Then, I want to go to CVS to run
inside and pick up an RX. Then I want to call in an order to Beef O’bradys
for takeout. I’d then have to walk inside the restaurant, pickup food,
get back in uber. Then I want to swing through the Starbucks drive
through to pickup a large tea. Then, return home. This is an example,
but I don’t want to have to call an Uber after each trip. For one thing,
probably a 15 minute wait.. and my food will get cold!

other calls while they were already on a trip - I was using Uber X.
Maybe they were using two ridesharing services at the same time?

RE: an Uber question

2016-10-11 Thread Jeremy Gilley
actually, they can get calls while they are driving you.
This has happened to me.
Even the customer has called the driver and asked where they were.
Being that this call was through the car speakers, i could hear both sides
of the call.
The driver explained that he had to drop me off and he would come to get
them.

No, she just didn't want to wait around for you. An Uber driver cannot
get another call while they're already on a trip. Instead of lying, she
should have just said she wasn't prepared to wait.

No, it isn't, but that depends on how long the trip is, but it shouldn't be
that expensive.
Give it a try next time you have a ride, and let us know what happens.

Hi guys:
I’ve only used Uber to go from point A, to point B. My question is can
you use Uber to run several different errands at once without having to
call for multiple trips? If so, how can you do this in the app, then find
the Uber driver once you exit your stores?
As an example, I call Uber, want to go to the grocery store, will be there
only 5 min to grab milk and bread. Then, I want to go to CVS to run inside
and pick up an RX. Then I want to call in an order to Beef O’bradys for
takeout. I’d then have to walk inside the restaurant, pickup food, get
back in uber. Then I want to swing through the Starbucks drive through to
pickup a large tea. Then, return home. This is an example, but I don’t
want to have to call an Uber after each trip. For one thing, probably a 15
minute wait.. and my food will get cold!

Re: Twitterrific and refreshing

2016-10-11 Thread Mary Otten
I have always tap to the status bar to make sure I'm back at the top. Actually,
I kind of like it that I'm not forced up there. For instance, if I'm reading
down in my timeline, and it refreshes which sometimes happens, I don't want to
be taken back up to the top. I want to keep reading until I'm done, then go
back to the top. I don't find having to double tap to go up there any sort of a
big deal, and I'm pretty sure it didn't start with iOS 10.

Re: an Uber question

2016-10-11 Thread Chris Judd

Hi,

Just got back from holiday, with difficult connectivity: I have a couple of
thousand emails in my inbox and decided to mark all as read. So, from the inbox
screen, I tapped "edit" and then, at the bottom found "mark all" tapped it and
chose "read". Wonderful! All changed to being "read". But when I go back into
the email app, there they all are again, unread!! How can I make this stick?

Thanks, Sandy.

Subject: Siri doing some strange things with texts

Hi,

I have found that if I unlock my phone and then press and hold the home
button and say text and a contact name as I used to do it will not send
a text properly.

This used to work just fine prior to IOS 10.

Now I say text and the name of one of my contacts. It asks what I want
to say to that contact. I speak the text message and after I stop
speaking it tells me what the message will say and asks if I want to go
ahead and send it. I say yes and it says it will send it. So far so good.

Now the problem comes. I then received a text from 662-453 saying the
message was not understood and then I received another text from
something like <-mobile-> repeating what my message was.

Siri does not send the text to my contact even though it recognized it
when I spoke text and the contact name.

Any idea what is going on?

thanks.

Re: Talking thermostat, analog or digital?

2016-10-11 Thread Ann Byrne
We had a Kelvin thermostat for 8 years. We
replaced it with a talking thermostat (the brand)
and like that one too. Neither communicates with
our phones, but both talk very nicely. We
replaced the Kelvin a few months ago because of a
problem that turned out to be the furnace (ugh!) not the thermostat.

There are no analog thermostats that I know of
that talk. It requires digital output to a
speech chip to provide the spoken information.

I’m surprised your place cannot take anything but analog.
Honeywell, I believe it is, makes a very good
tactile thermostat, which we currently
have. It is a simple dial with good marks that
are easy to feel and my wife just put a bump
dot at 70 on the moving part and the stationary
part so if I line them up it is set to 70 and I
can judge moving it up or down from there if needed.
We also have Air conditioning, so the same
bumps work for that in the hot weather.
The thermostat has a simple, three position
switch with off in the middle, cool in the down
position and heat in the up position.

I’ll check and see if I can get the model number if you are interested.

I’d have the landlord talk to the folks at
Talking Thermostats about the set up for the
VIP 3000 to make sure it wouldn’t work.

We are going to buy that one when we get our
furnace service scheduled in the next month or so.

Later,
Richard

Re: Rest finger on home button to open.

2016-10-11 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi Ed!
And this is quite logical by all means. Apple as a security freak
would never allow the phone to be unlocked by single touching
without initiating the lock screen first.
I believe no smartphone has this kind of feature, even the phones
able to display lock screen by uncovering the flip or wallet case.
And, just a humble opinion, it would be much better if Apple
implemented that feature instead of Raise to wake.

Hi
Sieghard,
You
answered my question. No one told me they were pushing the
lock button. They all made it sound like they were just
resting their finger on the home button and the iPhone was
opening up to the icon screen. If I have raise to wake
feature on and I pick up the phone and rest my finger on the
home button it opens to the icon screen. If I turn off raise
to wake and put my finger on the home button it does not
open it. But like you said if I push the lock button then
put my finger on the home button it will go to the icon
screen. All of the other emails made it sound like they just
rested their finger on the home button and their iPhone open
up to the icon screen. No one said they pushed the lock
screen button before resting their finger on the home
button.
Thanks
Sieghard for your explanation as that explains to me what I
needed to know.

Hi
Ed,

I
think everybody is not understanding what you want to do
unless it is me that doesn’t understand.
If
your phone is locked just resting your finger on the home
button without pushing it down will not unlock anybody’s
phone whether you have “Rest finger to open” turned on or
not.
What
Jeffrey and Sean probably meant to say is that with this
feature turned on, the phone will unlock when you simply
rest your finger on the home button without pushing it, but
you do first have to be on the lock screen and in order to
bring up the lock screen you have to wake up your phone by
pressing the power/sleep button on the side or the home
button. Of course if you press the home button with one of
the fingers that is registered for Touch Id simply pressing
it will most likely unlock your phone especially if you have
a 6S/6S Plus or 7/7 Plus. It will also with the 5S, 6 and 6
Plus, but these are first generation sensors and they are
slower.

Sieghard

Hi
Shawn,
I
turned off raise to wake and then rebooted my phone. Still
will not open by just resting my finger on the home button.
If I push the home button down then it will open to the icon
screen. I have a friend that also has a 6s plus and his does
the same thing as mine. When he turns off raise to wake it
will not open by just resting his finger on the home button.
So once again I cannot figure out why this does not work on
three iPhones that I have tried it on. Any other ideas?

Just got back from holiday, with difficult connectivity: I have a couple of
thousand emails in my inbox and decided to mark all as read. So, from the inbox
screen, I tapped "edit" and then, at the bottom found "mark all" tapped it and
chose "read". Wonderful! All changed to being "read". But when I go back into
the email app, there they all are again, unread!! How can I make this stick?

Thanks, Sandy.

It is very clear to me that being part of the “internet of things” and having
connected devices is apparently every manufacturer’s
dream these days. Of course there are many useful and convenient devices like
Wi-Fi connected thermostats, lights or doorbells, but
there are also a lot of useless ones out there. A “connected” mattress in my
opinion is one of the useless ones, if you want to
track your sleep there are plenty of options out there and I’m not at all sure
it is all that good to sleep on something that is
packed with sensors and electronics all of which emit radio frequencies and who
knows what else. I also totally question a $1,000
bed or mattress, anybody who tell sme that a matress at such a price point
which has all the features mentioned is supposed to be a
good matress is in my opinion full of it.
Next thing they’ll come out with a connected toilet which an app that tells you
the next time you need to go poop and if we are
lucky it may even include a scale which from 1 to 10 tells you how much it
stinks of course based on crowdsourced results from

Details from the latter, Sleep Number:
"Like other SleepIQ beds, the IT features biometric sensors that track heart
rate, movement and breathing via your body. The IT,
however, also features ActiveComfort technology, so the bed will use data it
has collected to recommend a customer's ideal level of
firmness, comfort and support every day. Users can see the recommendations and
make adjustments with the SleepIQ
app, which connects the
iPhone to the bed via Bluetooth.

The IT can also connect to other health tracking services via the SleepIQ API.
This allows the IT to make more advanced sleeping
recommendations. For instance, it can recommend whether to sleep earlier based
on your diet, or it can connect to your iPhone's
calendar and tell you to go to sleep at a certain time so that you can be well
rested for a meeting at 8 a.m.

The IT bed's pricing starts at $1,000 and will be available in Summer 2016 in
all standard mattress sizes.

The SleepIQ app is available
for free in the App Store [Direct
Link]"

Has anyone tried these? If so, how welll does the iOS app work with VoiceOver?
And, which would you recommend?

Work with Nest)."

Re: How Do I Get My Files out of Dropbox

2016-10-11 Thread christopher hallsworth
Well, all I will say is, iTunes is lovely on the mac as far as I am concerned.
It would even be my go to player especially since I have an Apple Music family
plan.
