Spotify and the Ipad

2017-02-08 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I was wondering, could someone please give me some advice, or suggestions on
how to use Spotify with my Ipad?

I love my Ipad, even though I find it rather confusing at times. And I have
realized that for some reason, certain Apps don't work as well, or at all, with
the Ipad. Which I find confusing.

Anyway, I really want to use Spotify on my Ipad, and not my phone. I am trying
to keep such Apps on my Ipad, for reading books, reading, or listening to news,
playing music, and such things as this. I am not 1 who likes to drain the
battery of my phone, by doing these things. But also, I don't like to put my
phone on disturb. I figure I can set it on vibrate, if I don't want to receive
calls, and such.

Ok, got off-topic there. Sorry about that.

I want to use Spotify on my Ipad.
However, I find it rather confusing! It's driving me crazy!
Sometimes, I want to see all the artists I have in my collection. Or I want to
remove an artist, if at all possible. But when trying to review the screen, I
keep running in to albums, or artists that have been recently played. I will
even see certain tracks of albums, and how I can play them again.
Is there a way to not see all this? If so, what do I need to do?
Also, how do I go about removing an artist, or an album, or song that I know
longer want in my list? Is this possible?

I am sure I have more questions. But this is what I can think of, at the moment.
Any thoughts, advice, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Tiles and tile app? Not!

2017-02-08 Thread Grant
Hello Sieghard and all,

To directly contradict one of your points about Tile, the company will indeed
send you prepaid shipping envelopes along with new Tiles, for around 50% of the
retail price for the product, when the battery begins experiencing issues or
around the one year mark after purchasing Tile. This is to compensate for the
battery not being user-replaceable. I too wish that I could replace all the
batteries in my devices, but the trend seems to be for batteries to be sealed
in in favour of more compact devices and better battery life. The reality is
that you have a tiny Bluetooth tracker, on at all times, guaranteed to last for
at least a year, which doesn’t seem so bad. I’d certainly love for the
technology to be improved so the battery could last far more than a year.

Whether or not Tile is valuable to you depends on your needs. As someone who
constantly leaves my keys, wallet, bags, etc. lying around I have absolutely
loved my Tiles as they have basically taken the stress out of locating my stuff
when I’m in a hurry. The Tile is loud enough that I can usually hear it
throughout my house, so if I’ve lost my keys or other possessions it saves me
the trouble of touching and exploring every surface until I locate them. I
agree with you about the privacy concerns (not to mention the impact on battery
life) with having location tracking on all the time, but you can turn that off
if desired and still use all the other features of Tile. You can also ping your
phone by double-pressing any Tile, which I also used to use a fair amount
before getting an Apple Watch.

As others have mentioned the accessibility of the Tile iOS app has
deteriorated, and I’m really disappointed to hear that you can’t create an
account independently. I recently reset my iPhone, and I was able to log into
my existing account without sighted help. The iPhone app has a number of
unlabeled elements which can be worked with if needed, but the Apple Watch app
is perfectly accessible. I’d certainly encourage others to lobby the Tile folks
to work on improving the accessibility of their iOS app.

All this to say quite frankly I’ve really enjoyed my Tiles and have found
they’ve improved my workflow. Still, there’s improvement needed, especially
with the iOS app.

Re: tunein radio opinion

2017-02-08 Thread Wayne Merritt
I think it depends on what you are interested in. If you are a sports
nut, love audio books, commercial free music and podcasts, then it's
great. I miss some of the times that I listened to Sirius Satellite
Radio, for the channels and some of the personalities. However, there
were also a number of times when my signal would go out and there
would be dead air. That hasn't happened a lot yet on TuneIn. Also,
TuneIn seems to be cheaper monthly than Sirius was. Perhaps the
commercial free music channels alone would be cheap on Sirius, but
throw in all of the other channels, and the total cost is much more
than TuneIn. Another thing to watch with TuneIn is that it is not
using your location to get radio station location. That will also drop
your battery fast. I turned that off some time ago. It isn't a big
deal though since I can access areas by location through the Browse
tab. I like TuneIn Premium for the NFL games each fall. I am starting
to listen to some audio books there too, but that is not as good as
with a service like Audible. However, unlike with Audible, I don't
have to pay per book on TuneIn, which is nice.

Wayne

Did you swipe up with 3 fingers to make sure the page that the password field
actually had focus? Sometimes you may have 3 or 4 pages and while Voiceover
will tell you there is a password field, if you are still on page 1 and it is
on page 4 it may not gain focus when you double tap on it.

Re: latest messenger update still contains accessibility bugs

2017-02-08 Thread Grant
Just to chime in, the Messenger app is broken for me as well. I am using an
iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 10.2.1 along with the latest version of the Facebook
Messenger app as of this afternoon. I can read message threads, but can no
longer send messages because I just see several unlabelled buttons, none of
which appear to send the message. I wonder whether this has to do with changes
that are being gradually rolled out on Facebook's end. In any case, it's quite
challenging because the mobile Facebook site does not allow you to send
messages on an iOS device, instead prompting me to use the Messenger app. I've
had to force the desktop site to load in Safari, which is working for the
moment.

Thanks,

Grant

Did you swipe up with 3 fingers to make sure the page that the password field

will tell you there is a password field, if you are still on page 1 and it is
on page 4 it may not gain focus when you double tap on it.

RE: latest messenger update still contains accessibility bugs

2017-02-08 Thread Cristóbal
I too haven’t had any problems with unlabeled buttons in themes sanger app.

One accessibility issue I’d been meaning to write about is with links not being
announced by VoiceOver in messenger.

Is there perhaps something I’m missing or has it always been that VO only
says seen for a message in a thread. I have never been able to figure out how
to access links or get VO to say what they are when someone sends me
something. Be it a YouTube video or some other link.

Hi Davy,

You should qualify your messages with a statement that this seems to be a
problem for some users only. If somebody who has never read your messages or
any of the threads would read it they might think this is a universal issue and
it is not. The last time you reported this I checked Messenger on my 6S Plus

Have you checked the volume of your ringer, maybe it's turned all the way down.
Go to Settings > Sound and then make sure it's up all the way and that change
with buttons is off.

problem for some users only. If somebody who has never read your messages or
any of the threads would read it they might think this is a universal issue and
it is not. The last time you reported this I checked Messenger on my 6S Plus
and had no issues whatsoever and others reported the same. I just checked again
and for me Messenger remains fully accessible with all buttons properly labeled
except for that "Tab 3 of 5" on the main Messenger screen.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi

RE: Digiteyes purchased

2017-02-08 Thread Fazil
Even for the free apps, when I am in the security dialog box where you enter
your password to confirm the download, the dialog has two buttons, cancel
button and buy-button instead of ok-button. Is this a recent change?

Thanks!

This has happened to me although not with DigitEyes; just go ahead and click
the “Price Tag” button, if it then changes to “Buy” you’ll need to contact
Apple to get the issue straightened out. What will probably happen (at least
hopefully) is that the label will change to “Purchased” whereupon simply
clicking the button again will initiate a new install with no charges incurred.

Hi Richard,

That’s correct. I have found this also. I have a bunch of news apps on my

speech to knock off it’s speaking so not sure what the deal is with what is

Mute Switch on iPhone SE, IOS 9

2017-02-08 Thread Richard
Hi list,
Recently I discovered something interesting about the mute switch on the
side of my wife's phone.
She has several apps on her phone that stream live feeds,
however, the QVC app is the only one silenced by moving the mute switch to
the mute position.
Does anyone have any ideas why this would work this way?
Thanks,
Rick Justice

Re: PC's versus smart phones [WAS was Re: Getting Pictures Off of an iPad Mini to a Windows PC"]

2017-02-08 Thread Chris Chaffin

If just using the on screen keyboard, then I would agree that email might be
managed and done more efficiently using a computer, but either using a BT
keyboard, or by using the On screen braille keyboard or an app like MBraille,
email can be managed just as quickly and efficiently by using an i device.
I myself have managed all of my email, including work email, just by using my
iPhone for the last 2 or 3 years, and I have actually found that I manage my
email better since I can read and send messages no matter where I am. I do not
have to wait until I am sitting in front of a computer to do it.
By the use of the On screen keyboard and the MBraille app, this allows me to
type just as quickly as on a computer keyboard.

In the end, this is really a personal preference and everyone should manage
their email in the way that best fits their needs.
If someone wants to use Outlook on their computer to manage and do their email,
there's nothing wrong with that. But for me, I know what works for myself, and
helps me be as efficient in my busy life.

Re: Tunein radio

2017-02-08 Thread Daniel L. Gervais
Hi,

You just have to follow the same steps and when you reach the subscriptions and
select TuneIn, near the bottom, there will be options for a monthly or yearly
subscription. I am guessing that you just have to select the one you want and
confirm or buy.

Although if you wish to re-subscribe once your free trial is over, I believe
that TuneIn will disappear from your account's subscription list. But if you
find premium content and try to stream it, I assume that the same message
prompting you to subscribe, similar to when you first initiated your free
trial, will appear and you can complete the subscription that way too.

One thing to note with TuneIn Premium is that it includes the ability
to listen to audio books. Though one cannot change the speed of the
book, you can listen to the bestsellers and books in other categories.
I was planning on canceling my TuneIN Premium subscription after the
Super Bowl, but yesterday I found several current titles which I want
to read. There doesn't appear to be a way to search for books, or a
huge selection of books. But they do seem to have a variety. Finally,
if I stop my TuneIn Premium subscription, is it easy to start it up
again? Would I go to the same place in my account Settings?

Thanks,
Wayne

Re: Tunein radio

2017-02-08 Thread Wayne Merritt
One thing to note with TuneIn Premium is that it includes the ability
to listen to audio books. Though one cannot change the speed of the
book, you can listen to the bestsellers and books in other categories.
I was planning on canceling my TuneIN Premium subscription after the
Super Bowl, but yesterday I found several current titles which I want
to read. There doesn't appear to be a way to search for books, or a
huge selection of books. But they do seem to have a variety. Finally,
if I stop my TuneIn Premium subscription, is it easy to start it up
again? Would I go to the same place in my account Settings?

Thanks,
Wayne

Re: PC's versus smart phones [WAS was Re: Getting Pictures Off of an iPad Mini to a Windows PC"]

2017-02-08 Thread Richard Turner

A physical keyboard is generally faster than the onscreen keyboard, but these
days, I almost always use MBraiile on my iPhone and iPod Touch 6 when replying
and even writing up notes. It is almost as fast as an external keyboard, and I
don't have to carry anything extra.

2017-02-08 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
The app is still pretty hit and miss on the iPhone. It looks like the only way
to hear the channels is to use explore by touch rather than by flicking on the
screen. If you use flicking to move around the screen it is pretty confusing to
use the app. If you are comfortable using explore by touch it is not to bad.
You seem to get a lot more information if you do use explore by touch on the
iPhone app.

Audio Labels

2017-02-08 Thread Richard
The best app I've seen is Digit Eyes, which costs about $10 US, but well
worth it!

http://www.digit-eyes.com/

It is a bar code scanner that works very well, and has the ability to create
audio labels, text labels as well as laundry labels.
There is the option of printing your own labels at home, or purchasing them
from the website.

I can download email significantly faster on my iPhone or iPod Touch 6 than I
can on my Windows 10 64 bit laptop running Outlook 2016.
Plus, the threading on the Apple devices is so far superior than with Outlook,
I can manage hundreds of emails far easier on the Apple devices.
The use of threading is also why I ask people to start a new thread when they
want to change topics in a thread. Like the thread that started out about
getting pictures off an iPad mini, than soon became a thread about handling
emails on computers VS iPhones.
Once I decide I'm done with a thread, I stop opening the individual messages
and just delete the thread.
Or, when it is clear that a thread has been taken off topic, I just delete the
thread.
Saves tons of time.
And, while offices are not going to stop using computers, I use my iPhone a ton
when I'm out of the office to update my calendar, write up reports, etc. Then
when I get back to the office, I can get my work done very quickly.
I could go on and on, but won't.
For some, the iPhone iPod, iPad are a secondary device, but for me it is equal
if not a little ahead of the computer.
I will always turn to the computer for audio editing, but almost everything
else, I can do as effectively on my Apple devices.

First of all, no where did I say that you said we can't handle emails on our
smart phones. You don't want to be taken out of context, so please extend that
courtesy to others on the list as well.

In fact, what you did say, and I quote, is "... with a computer you will be doing
the same thing in seconds, instead hours." All I said in my email, which you can
read below, is that this is an exaggeration and is only your experience and your opinion.

If you can read, reply to, file and delete a hundred message on your PC in a
few seconds then that's great, and you are infinitely more proficient with
email on your PC than I am. On the other hand if it takes you hours to read,
reply to, move and delete a hundred emails on your smart phone then you're
either doing some complicated email formatting like Seeghard describes, or I'm
a lot more proficient when it comes to handling email on a smart phone then you
are.

In fact, there are some tasks I prefer to do on my iPhone. For example, if I'm
going to read, delete and move a bunch of emails at work, I'll do that on my
iPhone before I'll do that in Outlook on my PC. I just find that Outlook with
JAWS or NVDA just doesn't handle threading as eel as the Mail app does on the
iPhone. If I were also talking about replying to and writing emails then yes,
I'm going to go to my PC first. Also, if I were comparing the Mail app on my
iPhone to Thunderbird with Orca on Linux, then I'd take that combination on my
PC over the iPhone, but that's not an option for me at the job.

I agree that doing some things, such as content generation, is generally more
efficient on a PC than on a smart phone, but a lot of things related to content
consumption is just as easy if not easier on a tablet or smart phone. My
problem with your statement is that you're making wild exaggerations, you're
stating your opinion as fact and you're not providing any use cases or details
about what you're doing that's so much more efficient on your PC.

I also don't agree that your smart phone or tablet is a supplementary device.
It may be in your case, and that's fine. I know plenty of people though who use
a tablet now as their primary device, and yes that is in an office setting. I'm
not there yet, but it isn't because mobile devices don't have the necessary
computing power. It has to do more with the state of the apps, their
accessibility, and keyboard support. Convertible devices are also blurring the
distinction between mobile devices and laptops, and there's no reason to think
this trend won't continue. Look at the specs of your high end smart phones and
the specs you need on your PC to accomplish the same tasks. The deltas have
shrunk incredibly over the last few years, if they even exist at all any more.

In order to unsubscribe, you need to go into your device's settings, under
iTunes and App Store and log into your account. Near the top, your u'll find
your username, double tap on it and select view account, I think that is what
it says. Once logged in, you can view different parts of your account and make
changes. Swipe until you hear subscriptions and tap on this. Then a few
seconds later, you will find a list of all services your subscribed to. Select
Tune In and once the new page loads, near the bottom you'll find the option to
unsubscribe . Select this option and then select confirm when asked and that

Hope that helps!

Re: PC's versus smart phones [WAS was Re: Getting Pictures Off of an iPad Mini to a Windows PC"]

2017-02-08 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Argument aside, I find I can navigate and type on a desktop keyboard much
quicker and efficiently than on any kind of handheld
without physical keys. It's just what we got used to.
I finally bought a full-size bluetooth to try on an iPad Mini, still trying,
iOs navigation just isn't as simple as using the arrow
keys like it used to be.
So I can never understand the developer claims it is all in the interest of
efficiency. Sure, you can do more when not at a desk;
that, I admit, is progress.

Mini to a Windows PC"]

First of all, no where did I say that you said we can't handle emails on
our smart phones. You don't want to be taken out of context, so please
extend that courtesy to others on the list as well.

In fact, what you did say, and I quote, is "... with a computer you will
be doing the same thing in seconds, instead hours." All I said in my
email, which you can read below, is that this is an exaggeration and is
only your experience and your opinion.

If you can read, reply to, file and delete a hundred message on your PC
in a few seconds then that's great, and you are infinitely more
proficient with email on your PC than I am. On the other hand if it
takes you hours to read, reply to, move and delete a hundred emails on
your smart phone then you're either doing some complicated email
formatting like Seeghard describes, or I'm a lot more proficient when it
comes to handling email on a smart phone then you are.

In fact, there are some tasks I prefer to do on my iPhone. For example,
if I'm going to read, delete and move a bunch of emails at work, I'll do
that on my iPhone before I'll do that in Outlook on my PC. I just find
that Outlook with JAWS or NVDA just doesn't handle threading as eel as
the Mail app does on the iPhone. If I were also talking about replying
to and writing emails then yes, I'm going to go to my PC first. Also, if
I were comparing the Mail app on my iPhone to Thunderbird with Orca on
Linux, then I'd take that combination on my PC over the iPhone, but
that's not an option for me at the job.

I agree that doing some things, such as content generation, is generally
more efficient on a PC than on a smart phone, but a lot of things
related to content consumption is just as easy if not easier on a tablet
or smart phone. My problem with your statement is that you're making
wild exaggerations, you're stating your opinion as fact and you're not
providing any use cases or details about what you're doing that's so
much more efficient on your PC.

I also don't agree that your smart phone or tablet is a supplementary
device. It may be in your case, and that's fine. I know plenty of people
though who use a tablet now as their primary device, and yes that is in
an office setting. I'm not there yet, but it isn't because mobile
devices don't have the necessary computing power. It has to do more with
the state of the apps, their accessibility, and keyboard support.
Convertible devices are also blurring the distinction between mobile
devices and laptops, and there's no reason to think this trend won't
continue. Look at the specs of your high end smart phones and the specs
you need on your PC to accomplish the same tasks. The deltas have shrunk
incredibly over the last few years, if they even exist at all any more.

You can relegate your smart phone and tablet to a supplementary device
if you want, but I'm glad their are innovators at Canonical, Microsoft
and elsewhere that realize there's no reason why one device can't bridge
the gap between the mobile and desktop spaces.
