Re: creating call action items workflow app iOS with VoiceOver

2017-03-30 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

You have to add the contact or phone number before the call action. For example
you can use the "phone number action

My previous phone was not an iPhone and I did the verification
through a phone call. Worked just fine. But, I disabled it.

In my opinion the fixes and the fact the more or less not that
much has changed outweigh the issue with 3D Touch which on an
iPhone 5S or iPad 4 you don't have anyways.
Just make sure on your iOS devices that you do a backup either
to iCloud or iTunes before you update.
Then empty the app switcher and at least do a reboot, e.g. turn
the phone/iPad off, wait 30 seconds and turn them back on.

Then do the update and all should work fine.
Keep in mind that once the update has downloaded, it will then
sit there for a bit and say "Preparing update" and finally it
will say "verifying update". The "verifying update" message
is usually only there for a shorttime, maybe 15 or 20 seconds,
after that the phone reboots and the update is
installed/configured and during that time the phone will be
silent. On a 5S this could easily be 20 or even 30 minutes,
eventually the phone reboots and will be at the lock screen
asking for your passcode. It's a good idea to make a note of
the time when it says "verifying update" and before it goes
silent just so you have an idea when the 20 minutes are over, but
don't panic if it takes longer, whatever you do don't press and
hold the power button as this could interrupt the update process
and have very undesirable consequences.

It also would appear that this update automatically enables
two-factor authentication because both my wife and my Mom did not
have this enabled and right after the update received the
following email (I replaced the name with "John Smith" just as
a generalization and while parts of the email address is hidden,
I also made up a ficticious gmail for John Smith. If you are not
comfortable with two-factor authentication I highly recommend you
sign into your account at http://appleid.apple.com and while you
will have to get a code that time to get in, you can then turn
this off again in the Security area. Here now what that email
looks like in case you also get it:

Subject: You have enabled two-factor authentication for your
Apple ID

Dear John Smith,

Thank you for enabling two-factor authentication for your Apple
ID (j.@gmail.com)
Two-factor authentication is an additional layer of security
designed to prevent unauthorised access to your account and
protect the photos, documents and other data you store with
Apple.
From now on, whenever you sign in with your Apple ID on a new
device or browser, you will verify your identity by entering your
password plus a six-digit verification code sent to your other
devices or a trusted phone number. To learn more, read the FAQ.

Additional security information
If you did not enable two-factor authentication and believe an
unauthorised user has accessed your account, you can use the link
below to return to your previous security settings.

Turn off Two-Factor Authentication
This link and your Apple ID security questions will expire on
April 11, 2017. After this date, the only way to turn off
two-factor authentication will be to sign in to your Apple ID
account page with your password and a six-digit verification
code.

Sincerely,
Apple Support

Apple has today released iOS 10.3 to the public.

At the time of posting, release notes are not yet available;
however, this release brings a number of new features to iOS in

For blind and low vision users, our testing indicates that Apple

Monica, I use the hulu app on a daily basis and love it. I never ever watch
anything on tv. I listen to everything on my phone. Between, hulu, netflix,
amazon prime, and the blind mice mart descriptive videos, I have plenty to look
at. However, my husband is fully sighted and watches tv. We have been talking
about changing from cox to uverse because my husband is retired from ATT and
would get a discount. Are you able to listen to the programs with the uverse
app? I would appreciate you giving me any information you can on them and the
app. Thanks in advance.

RE: One available update

2017-03-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I would just backup the phone, close all apps from the app switcher and reboot
the phone.
Then go to Settings > General > Software Update and install whatever shows up
there. If it is 10.2.1 then just install it and after it's done go back and see
if 10.3 is available.
You could of course also connect your phone to the computer (if you have one
with iTunes), open iTunes, go to the phone area and activate the "Check for
Updates" button and see what you get. If you update from what is even a
relatively old version of iOS 9 to iOS 10 doing it via iTunes would be my first
choice.

Re: Hulu TV App

2017-03-30 Thread MamaPeach
I love Hulu, I watch a lot of documentary shows that aired on Investigation
Discovery and I watch a lot of shows from NBC, like The Wall, Little Big Shots,
Matchgame, To Tell The Truth and I also enjoy watching some older shows like
The Brady Bunch. I have found the app on my iPod and my Apple TV to be very
accessible.

I’m thinking of trying out Hulu TV. I hear it offers lots of classic TV, unlike
Netflix. Netflix has mostly today’s TV these days. Frankly, I’m not into much
of it except for some of the dramas like Scandal, Gray’s Anatomy, Bones and a
few others. Do any of you like Hulu? When first glancing the app, it looks
accessible, but before I set up a trial, I thought I’d see what y’all thought
of it, if anything. (smile) Thanks for feedback.

I'm not picking on you Shawn.
The developers should know when Apple is going to drop 32 bit support and
if they don't, then they are not keeping up with they're app development,
in which case, there is nothing that can be done, the app will stop
working and the developer is the only one to blame.

The EyeNote app by the Bureau of Engraving is one that iOS 10 has flagged
as not going to work in future versions of iOS without updating.
I wrote the bureau of engraving but have not heard back from them. Of
course, that was just a couple days ago, so I am not surprised.
In a couple of weeks, I will write them again if I have not heard anything.
So, for those concerned about apps going away, start contacting the app
 developer.

Hi Kimber,

Sorry, it's the Braille authority of North America. The website is
www.brailleauthority.org
and you can find a document called Overview of Changes from Current Literary
Braille to UEB — in HTML, PDF, and braille (BRF) at
http://brailleauthority.org/ueb.html#resources

I checked, and this document does include info on how to do the various types
of accent marks.

RE: Name of the Subscription-Based GPS Program that Works with Google Glasses?

2017-03-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The service is called Aira. The app store link for the app is
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aira/id1071584352?mt=8. However, the app won't
do you much good without having a subscription to the service and the
subscriptions are definitely on the expensive side, I belive they range from
$89 to $199 a month. This includes the Google Glass or other device you choose.
Their website is https://aira.io/.

Re: 32-bit apps under 10.3

2017-03-30 Thread Mary Otten
Unfortunately, your article seems to be correct. For those of you who have the
Radium app and are running iOS 10.3, if you launch Radium, you will get a
dialogue that says this app will not be supported in future versions of iOS and
that the developer must update it. So this is going to be the end of the line
for that app unless the folks who made a Radium change their minds and update
it. If you go into settings, you can find a list of any 32-bit apps that you
have that will not work when Ios 11 comes out unless they are updated. For me,
the only one I care about is Radium. My other ones are Russian apps that I
don't use all that often.

Hey Richard. No hard feelings. Here is an article that states that when
launching 32 bit apps with iOS 10.3, there's a dialog that says that whatever
32 bit app you launched may not be supported in future versions of iOS which
tells me they may be dropping support for these apps in iOS 11. This doesn't
surprise me at all because Skype 6.13 for Mac will not launch in Sierra so

If you have a lan line I think you can add it as a trusted number and if you

Re: Plantronics Voyager Edge Bluetooth Headset

2017-03-30 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Rob,

I want to try to explain the bud layout. It has a round circle at the top with
a microphone hanging from it. On the top of the circle there is a button that
presses in in the middle. It is a fairly large button. This can be used to
start siri. The round circle fits in your ear with this large button facing up.
The power switch is on the right hand side of the circle. It is a toggle
switch. Then there are two volume buttons on the very left side of the circle.
All of these buttons are on the edge of the circle. The voice command button is
on the microphone closest to the circle. It is a small button, so you may have
to really look for it. I hope this has been of some help to you. Fill free to
write me with any more questions.

Is there a way to copy photos from facebook?

2017-03-30 Thread Lelia Struve
Hi all, a lot of people will post photos with text and facebook doesn't read
the text, So I am wondering if there is a way I can get the photos from
facebook to my camera roll so I can upload it to Bespecular to tell me what
it says?

Thanks in advance.

Plantronics Voyager Edge Bluetooth Headset

2017-03-30 Thread Rob
My new Plantronics Voyager Edge Bluetooth headset will arrive Friday. Does
anyone have a podcast or description of the button layout for the Voyager
Edge? I have seen reviews of other Plantronics Voyager headsets on
Applevis, but I don't know if the layout of the buttons is the same on all
Voyager Bluetooth headsets.

No unfortunately there is not a way to disable the item chooser. I’ll suggest
it though.

Hi,

YOu can also use UEB and enter the accent marks that way. The BANA website has
a booklet of UEB symbols where you can find the accent marks you need.

Re: How to enter accented letters on a braille display

2017-03-30 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Kimber,

If you add French to your input languages, you can switch to a French keyboard
to type accented letters on your Braille display.
Go to Settings/General/Keyboards. For some strange reason, the French keyboard
is called French Medical, and you want the Accented AZERTY one.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: 32-bit apps under 10.3

2017-03-30 Thread Richard Turner

Any chance when people say things like "from what I've been told" that they
could sight sources?
This smacks of rumors without substance.
I'm not picking on you Shawn.
The developers should know when Apple is going to drop 32 bit support and if
they don't, then they are not keeping up with they're app development, in which
case, there is nothing that can be done, the app will stop working and the
developer is the only one to blame.

The EyeNote app by the Bureau of Engraving is one that iOS 10 has flagged as
not going to work in future versions of iOS without updating.
I wrote the bureau of engraving but have not heard back from them. Of course,
that was just a couple days ago, so I am not surprised.
In a couple of weeks, I will write them again if I have not heard anything.
So, for those concerned about apps going away, start contacting the app
developer.
Richard

Hi Peter. Yes, your 32 bit apps will still work in iOS 10.3. However, in iOS
11, from what I've been told, if any of your apps aren't updated by iOS 11,
they won't work at all.

32-bit apps under 10.3

2017-03-30 Thread Peter Bosher

Hi All,

It seems, from reading around, that old 32-bit apps are still supported
under IOS 10.3, but please can anyone confirm this one hundred per
cent? I have several which I don't want to lose, and I know that
support will stop soon, but perhaps that is with IOS 11, can anyone clarify?

Best,

Peter

How to enter accented letters on a braille display

2017-03-30 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hello,

I have a focus 14 braille display paired with my iPad which I use for
studying French. My question is how do I enter accented letters using
the keyboard on the display? Up to now, I've been switching to the
onscreen keyboard and accessing the alternative character sets when
necessary but this is time consuming. I'm sure there is a more
convenient way.

Thanks
