the reason. Www.applevis.com. I am not going to upade either because it is
not a very good idea for the braille users too. Hope this heap. Cheers,

Overdrive question

2017-10-02 Thread Diane
I have overdrive for windows on my computer. I haven't tried it on the phone
yet but I've heard it's a real hassel on the phone. I open it with Clevenet
because the Cleveland library is my closest library. I would like to try to
use it on the iPhone. Is it possible there is a tutorial, audio or even text
with step-by-step instructions anywhere? They've changed it in the last few
years and I'm not sure how to work it. I'm interested in it now because you
can borrow kindle books and them back in two or three weeks as you choose. If
anybody knows exactly to set it up on the phone and use, please send me the
information. Links or whatever.

Thanks much. God bless.

Experiencing trouble with Facebook app:

2017-10-02 Thread Michael McKay
Hi! Folks:

I seem to be having difficulty with the Facebook app on my iPhone. When I copy
and paste on it it does not seem to want to quickly work, or it takes a while
to complete the task. I am wondering if anyone else on the list is having this
problem. It seems to be happening since iOS or Leavin was downloaded. This is
the only problem or issue I seem to be having, everything else seems to be
working fine.

Any help, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much and advance.

Re: Best task management app

2017-10-02 Thread Nancy Badger

I use an app called Things. It provides me with the capability to make as many
different lists as I want. It also provides me with the capability of
scheduling to do’s. I can also prioritize them. It is great and very
accessible. I can’t remember if I paid money for it or not. I have used it a
long time now.

Re: Question about articles rotor option

2017-10-02 Thread Ryan Mann
If somebody is designing a web site, there is an HTML tag that allows articles
to be separate from other parts of the web site. What this means for you is if
there is an article on a web site that does this, you can switch the rotor to
articles then flick down to get directly to the article.
I hope this makes sense.

Question about articles rotor option

2017-10-02 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all,

Since iOS 11 I've noticed a rotor option called "articles"
I have no idea where this would come into play.
I've added it just to see if I can find any scenario where it would help
navigate but have come up with nothing.
Any insights very appreciated,

Ioana

RE: iPhone gets warm after iOS 11 update

2017-10-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I would do a Reset Network Settings, something might be causing the processor
to work hard and it could be some hung process. A Reset Network Settings should
stop anything that uses the WiFi or cellular radio and it will also do a
reboot. I did a Reset Network Settings prior to the update and have not
experienced any issues on my 6S Plus regarding battery drain or the phone
getting warm.

Hi.
As a matter of interest, in case I decide to stay with Virgin, which Tivo box
are you actually using and is this the latest one?
Is there anything that doesn't work well or that someone would want to know

Thanks for any answers on this! I'm keeping my options open and looking keenly

Thanks for any more you can give.

RE: Apple Watch data

2017-10-02 Thread Rick Alfaro
Hi. I just went through this, twice as a matter of fact. The easiest way is to
just unpair your old watch via the watch app on your iPhone. This should take
care of everything regarding your old watch. Once you unpair the old one, turn
on your new watch while you are right by your iPhone and you should get
prompted to pair a new Apple Watch. If you don’t get prompted, just open your
watch app and you will see the prompt. HTH

Any advice for steps on how to deal with decommissioning my original AppleWatch

Hi,

Unpairing the watch erases it completely. I think you would have to pair it
again to be able to get to the Reset option.

Best,

RE: overdrive question

2017-10-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Michelle,

As some in this community may recall, I am a huge fan of Over Drive. I use it,
exclusively, to download commercial audio books; from classic fiction such as
“Gone with the Wind,” to modern non-fiction releases such as Hillary Clinton’s
recently published, “What Happened.”

Having said this, the answer to your question will depend a great deal on
whether or not you have any usable vision.

I will confess that Over Drive is one of the few apps on my phone that compels
me to use my vision in order to access certain areas of an audio book. This is
not to say that these areas are not VoiceOver accessible but, accessing them
requires more explore-by-touch than iOS users have come to expect.

So, while the names of each chapter and section heading are completely
VoiceOver accessible, accessing this area can be a bit challenging if one is
totally blind.

Regardless, I will suggest the following navigation strategy, which requires no
vision, whatsoever, in order to execute:

1.
Place focus on the Play/Pause button, located near the bottom center of the
display.

2.
Single-finger, swipe from right-to-left, once. This will place focus on the
“Skip Back 15 Seconds”, button.

3.
Single-finger, swipe from right-to-left, again, in order to land on the “Audio
book, Previous Heading”, button. Each time you activate this button. You will
be taken back one subsection/chapter, at a time.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark

IOS 11 battery drain: Here's how to fix this iPhone issue

2017-10-02 Thread M. Taylor
iOS 11 killed my battery life. Here's how I finally revived it and you can,
too
by Jennifer Jolly, Special for USA TODAY.
USA Today contributor Jennifer Jolly shows us some absolutely genius
're-uses' for an that old iPhone that you have lying around the house. USA
TODAY The new iPhone 8 Plus is displayed in the showroom after the new
product announcement at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, Calif. Some
iPhone users are reporting big drains on battery life with the new iOS 11
upgrade. (Photo: AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez,) ' An hour after upgrading to
iOS 11, my iPhone 7 Plus phone was at 30%. It was 11AM'and I had barely used
it. An hour later, another update came out: 11.0.1 . I updated again, so
then it made it until about noon. If you just upgraded your iPhone, there's
a really good chance you're noticing a serious battery drain problem, too.
According to security research firm Wandera , early updates of iOS 11 took
an average of one hour and 36 minutes on average to drain iPhones
completely, compared to the iOS 10 update, which took about four hours. I
scoured Apple's help site and the Internet for the fix and only came up
advice like, 'look at what apps are using the most battery,' 'enable low
power or airplane mode,' and 'just wait, it will all get better. Okay. But
now what? So I went back to expert advice from Scotty Loveless , an Apple
consultant at Appinstructor.com'who helped me with iPhone battery problems
earlier this year. From earlier tips and tricks he taught me, I was able to
reclaim my battery life once and for all. (Or until the next update at
least.) Here's how to do it. Scroll to the bottom of the battery screen to
see usage and standby. (Photo: iOS screenshot) There's a good chance you
have an app that's bugging out in the background. It happens every iOS
update, as apps scramble to play nice in the sandbox with Apple's newest
operating system. Let's start with a basic battery check: Go into Settings >
Battery. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and you'll find two numbers,
one for Standby and one for Usage. Your Usage number should be way, way
lower than your Standby number. If it's not, here's what to do next: Jot
down your Standby and Usage times and then click the lock button on your
phone. Let it sit for about five minutes and then check the numbers again.
If your Standby time is five minutes higher, you're in good shape, but if
your Usage time has bumped up by a more than a minute it's a sign that your
phone isn't resting like it should. The Fix(es): When an app is doing things
even when you're not using it, it could be malfunctioning, and stuck in an
endless loop that's draining all your power. That's what happened to me
before, with Exchange Push email keeping the phone from sleeping properly.
Email issues: Check email settings to see how often your phone is fetching
new data. (Photo: IOS screenshot) Let's start with the potential that you're
having email issues too: Go into Settings > Accounts & Passwords> Fetch New
Data. Mine was automatically set to Push. Turn that off, at least
temporarily, and set it to Fetch every 15 to 30 minutes instead. You can
also use the Manual mode, which only scans for new messages when you
actually open the email app. Do that with all of your emails accounts. More:
Genius new uses for that old iPhone More: This smartphone trick lets you do
more in less time Check the background apps under settings to look for
battery hogs. (Photo: IOS screenshot) Now, to more apps, and the ones in the
background when you don't need them. Head to Settings > Battery. You'll see
a list of apps and their impacts on your battery life. The fastest way to
deal with these juice hogs is to just get rid of them. But let's be real.
There's no way I can live without Waze, so second to that, adjust their
settings so they stop using juice when you're not actively using them:
General > Background App Refresh. You can turn this off altogether, or
customize which apps you want to keep running by going down the list and
toggling them on or off. The other option you have here is to only use
background app refresh on Wi-Fi, versus Wi-Fi and Cellular. I've found that
leaving Wi-Fi and Cellular on, while customizing which apps are okay to use
it for background app refresh ' to be the best fit all the way around. You
can also go into Settings > Battery > and switch Low Power Mode on too, but
that's a bit more drastic. When it's on, all your mail becomes Fetch, and it
turns off or down, Hey Siri, background app refresh, automatic downloads,
and some visual effects. Another fix for rogue apps is to delete them, then
reinstall them and restart your phone. Sometimes, that's enough to fix a
glitch. To find out, just repeat the battery test from #1 again. Check
locations services under settings/privacy to see if some apps are draining
battery life with this feature. (Photo: IOS screenshot) Letting your apps
keep tabs on your whereabouts is another real battery-burner. Location

I'm actually having the same issue with the Hulu app, and I haven't updated to
iOS 11 yet. Should I actually contact Hulu customer service directly, or the
developer of the Hulu app? Please let me know. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

I like it too, but keep in mind at least for me sometimes when I do a double

Re: Inconsistent Behavior for edit mode for drag and drop

2017-10-02 Thread Mary Otten
You are double tapping and holding sufficiently hard to bring up the 3D Touch
menu. That's why you're seeing this message shortcut thing. If you never use 3D
Touch, you can turn it off. Otherwise, you will want to become familiar with
the difference between double tap and hold but not too hard, and double tap and
hold hard enough to make 3D Touch happen. Others have reported the same issue.
You may also wish to change the sensitivity for 3D Touch if you don't want to
turn it completely off, that is, make it harder.

Inconsistent Behavior for edit mode for drag and drop

2017-10-02 Thread Sandra E. Finley
I have rejoined this group after an absence of several years — sorry if
this is a repeat question. When I attempt to double tap and hold to drag
and drop I am able To access the appropriate menu only occasionally. Most
of the time I get a message that says “dismiss shortcut menu.” Is this a
bug or m I somehow double tapping and holding incorrectly? I know that the
edit mode cannot be activated by double tapping on a folder and I know it
is a one-finger double tap. Using iPhone 7 w/currrent IOS.

RE: overdrive question

2017-10-02 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I’ve had some success when, after finding alist of chapters with titles near
the bottom of the screen (but which screen exactly I’m afraid I can’t say at
this moment) that a one finger double tap on that chapter title will reset the
book to play at that place.

Sorry I can’t give you more specifics at this time. Keith

Hello List,
I am using overdrive with voice over and trying to go back several chapters in
an audio book. I can’t figure how to go back that far. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Best task management app

2017-10-02 Thread Chris Chaffin

You do not have to put a time with a reminder, it is only an option. For
example I use the Reminder app to make my shopping list, then I check them off
as I get things.
You can create as many list as you want or need.

Hope this helps.

 Hi all,

I have just submitted a bug with apple accessibility and would like to see

 I use a BI40 to write text.
The problem happens when the edit cursor is not at the end of the text.
I write a word and press space bar and vo instead of announcing the word I
have just typed, reads following words.
I can reproduce this in mail and notes have not tried other apps.
Of course, if I am at the end of the edit field, the problem does not
happen and vo reads the last input word correctly/

Incidentally,, I asked the accessibility speciallist on the phone if they

it’s preferable on the phone this way they can explore the issue and
 submit a detailed report.

THought it’s good to pass on this info.

OF course, if you have betas then you have to use feedback app.

Re: Hulu with VoiceOver

2017-10-02 Thread Candy Lowe
Hey guys,

I found a little work around with the hulu app. If you have hulu installed on
your phone, Ipad, etc, use the TV app. Do a search for a particular program.
on. the tv app. The tv app will then show that it is available on iTunes,
Hulu Then you can click on open in hulu and you can watch it that way.
Then the next time you go to the tv app, that program will show up in shows to
watch. It isn’t a fix, but, it is a work around for now.

Re: Bug with vo feedback when typing in braille display

2017-10-02 Thread Robert Wright
I missread your post. My answer has more to do about when you are editing text
that you have written. Unlike on a windows pc when you move your cursor it sits
directly under the letter you hear announced. Voiceover doesn’t do this.

Re: Bug with vo feedback when typing in braille display

2017-10-02 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,
Thanks for your answer. Not sure I understand.
Do you mean that this bug is dependent on the rotor setting?
I'm saying that, having typing feedback set to words, I write in using Braille
input keys on my display and, if there are words after the cursor they are
announced instead of the just typed word:
Anyone else has this bug were their braille display?

Thanks,

Ioana

Re: notifications not speaking on lock screen

2017-10-02 Thread Kelby Carlson
I don't understand what this means. My notifications have never spoken
automatically on the lock screen; my phone will just vibrate or make a
tone. If the phone is not in my pocket the lock screen will display,
but if I have the phone in my pocket I will get a tone without the
lock screen even coming up (Apple tells me this is designed.) So I'm
not seeing any change with the new update.

I have an I phone 6S running iOS 11. My notifications setting is set to
always, and it still is not reading in coming notifications. The
 interesting
thing is, if voiceover is speaking or something else is playing,
notifications are read as they are coming in.

Withis new "Show Preview" setting what is the "Always Speak

used for in Voiceover settings? It's been there for many years and while

Hi all,
I am not having much consistent luck working with Hulu and VoiceOver since
the latest update to my 4th generation Apple TV nor on my iPhone 8 plus
with iOS 11. What in the world is going on? It reads the categories and
the shows as I scroll through when on Apple TV, but when I try to click on
something, nothing happens. Also, on iPhone I can’t even get past the list
of subcategories by double-tapping. Any ideas?

Hi Sharon,

There is no tones library any more in the media section, only when your phone
is connected in the device section.
Here is what you do:
1. Connect your phone and open iTunes.
2. Find the "iPhone" button and activate it.
3. Use F6 or tab to get into the treeview where you will be on the "Summary"
tab 4. Type "T O" and it will go down to "Tones", it could be the last item or
if not near the bottom of the treeview, but first letter navigation works.
5. Tab a few times until you are in the list of tones.
6. If you want to add a tone go to where you have it saved on your computer, I
assume you are using Windows. Simply copy the tone with Control+C, go back to
iTunes and your list of tones and paste it there with Control+V.

If you want to delete tones you have to tab a lot when you are on the Summary
tab and check the "manually manage videos and songs" or something like that.
You can add tones if you leave this unchecked, but only if you check this you
can simply press delete on a tone and it will be removed from your phone.

This can happen if you have arrowed back through the last text that you typed.
Note: When your rotor is set to character and you arrow up to the previous
character your cursor is to the left of the character you heard. Likewise, when

Re: The New "Files" App

Hello,
The files app replaces the iCloud drive app. It lets you look at all your files
in one place. You can see your dropbox, google drive and also your one drive
files as well.

You need sighted help to set the TiVo up. Once you get it to work

but it is annoying. There is no more or less delay than before.

My theory was that with VoiceOver, if you have AutoDucking enabled, then each
time you do any VO jesture it will automatically lower the system volume so
that it can read you the results of your VO jesture, then it will automatically
return the volume to its previous level (which I think was triggering the

I haven’t spent enough time playing around with AutoDucking to see if this
really plays out or not, but it’s something we should write to Apple

Hi everyone, I just received a set of Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT headphones, paired
them with my iPhone running iOS 11.0.1 and they sound great. The problem is
there is constant beeping when using VoiceOver. It is as through I was
constantly pressing a button on the cup of the headphones - beep beep beep -
when navigating around the screen with swipes. Does anyone know how to turn
this off?

Thanks much!
