To get or not to get a Qwerty Bluetooth keyboard if already use BrailleNote Apex?

2017-12-30 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Curretnly I've a Human BrailleNote as a Braille display on my iPhone,
however because of portability especially, I'm wanting to get a Qwerty
Bluetooth keyboard (Logictech 380 model); by portability I mean for
instance, I'd need to carry my Apex, plus the cable&charger, whereas
with a bluetooth keyboard, I'd need oly the keyboard itself, since it
runs on AA bateries. Thus the question is is it worthwhile buying
myself a qwerty Bluetooth keyboard when the BrailleNote Apex already
works as kind of a Bluetooth Braille keyboard? How long should the Apex
battery last before needing to charge? because it's recent that I'm
starting to use the Apex as a display, and I always use it plugged into
the wall. Thanks for tips/ideas on the subject.

Hello Andy,

It is much more than a travel booking app.

In fact, I haven't even explored the reservations feature as that was not
my intention for downloading it.

I am enjoying exploring all of my favorite cities and their various
attractions.

Please keep in mind that it is not necessary to have a Google account to
use this app; however, signing into one allows you to save various aspects
of your exploration.

Hello All,

I am delighted to report that I found an app that does exactly what I
want

when it comes to exploring new cities.

The free app, is called Google Trip.

It is VoiceOver accessible and very easy-to-use.

The controls are well labeled and can be activated via VoiceOver. The
only
thing to note is that not all of the buttons have the word, "button,"
spoken
in their VoiceOver label. So, when exploring the app, try a
single-finger

double-tap on everything, including a description, to see what happens.

I am certain you will be up and running in no time at all.

The link to the app is:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-trips/id1081561570?mt=8

Enjoy and happy traveling.

Mark

Re: Apple Apologizes After iPhone Battery Slowdown Controversy | Time

2017-12-30 Thread Victor Gouveia

I agree with Malcolm, though not as vehemently.

I also have to think that, while the slow down would have been nice to know
about, how much more frustrating was it to have your phone powered down for
no apparent reason.

One thing I noticed that my phone would do was power down when it was
updating, then I found out it had to do with my phone's storage space and
how low it was getting. The problem was that I had to solve the problem on
my own. It would have been nice to have the device tell me about such
things, but it didn't do that, it simply shut itself down to delete
temporary files and active apps.

Deleting temporary files, apps, music and audiobooks helped, and it's no
longer shutting down, but it was frustrating to say the least.

I would think the shut downs would be a great deal more frustrating then a
slight slow down, but that's just me, and perhaps Malcolm. Smile.

The fact is that Google/Android and now Microsoft are all playing catch up

I know Pablo that you think Android is so much better and all that and I'm

Prior to 2009 you had to spend about as much as a subsidised iPhone costs

smartphone of some sort and of course if you count the cost of what
MobileGeo used to cost let alone KNFB Reader for Symbian what we can get
now even if you do buy a $1,000 iPhone at full price is pretty amazing. I
paid that much for MobileSpeak and MobileGeo alone and my Microsoft Mobile
6.1 smartphone at the time could do a lot less than what my iPhone can do
now.
KNFB Reader when it was first available for a few Nokia phones I think was
$1,500.
Of course now with Seeing AI which is completely free my KNFB Reader
rarely gets used any more since for what I do which mostly is just reading
a single page or envelope the short text function in the Seeingt AI app
usually does the job.

contracts where accessibility needed to be available, it still took a bit of
vision to do such a deep integration both in iOS and MAC OS and of course now
in TVOS and Watch OS.
The fact is that Google/Android and now Microsoft are all playing catch up as
they follow the example Apple set. Before 2009 accessibility as a right was not
a term you hear, now you do.
I know Pablo that you think Android is so much better and all that and I'm sure
it's a pretty good experience by now, but I bought an iPod Touch third
generation in 2009 and remember in those initial years (2009, 2010, 2011 and so
on) when I was also listening to Podcasts and demos of Android accessibility
and back then it was a joke compare dto iOS.
Prior to 2009 you had to spend about as much as a subsidised iPhone costs now
to get something like MobileSpeak if you wanted an accessibile smartphone of
some sort and of course if you count the cost of what MobileGeo used to cost
let alone KNFB Reader for Symbian what we can get now even if you do buy a
$1,000 iPhone at full price is pretty amazing. I paid that much for MobileSpeak
and MobileGeo alone and my Microsoft Mobile 6.1 smartphone at the time could do
a lot less than what my iPhone can do now.
KNFB Reader when it was first available for a few Nokia phones I think was
$1,500.
Of course now with Seeing AI which is completely free my KNFB Reader rarely
gets used any more since for what I do which mostly is just reading a single
page or envelope the short text function in the Seeingt AI app usually does the
job.

Regards,
Sieghard

But Apple is not the only one who have created accessibility. All these apps
that you are mentioning exist for android, and they are cheaper than in IOs.
KNFB reader is just $20 for android. Maybe you need to try and see.

I don’t either, I’m just thankful for the accessible technology they have
provided for us. The iphone has opened up so many opportunities because of apps
such as Digit Eyes, Seeing ai, Be My Eyes and Knfb Reader, just to mention a
few. Going to the grocery store has certainly changed for the better for us. It
would be really hard if we didn’t have these apps.

Siri is not showing results

2017-12-30 Thread Pablo Morales
Hi all,

I don't know if it has changed in the last IOs releases, but when I ask Siri
for something to research on internet, for example synonyms of something.
Siri replies It is what I found on the web, take a look. When I try to see
what is on the screen, I see that what Siri has placed on the screen
disappears a few seconds after. What can I do to keep those results on the
screen?

Hello All,

I am delighted to report that I found an app that does exactly what I want
when it comes to exploring new cities.

The free app, is called Google Trip.

It is VoiceOver accessible and very easy-to-use.

The controls are well labeled and can be activated via VoiceOver. The
only
thing to note is that not all of the buttons have the word, "button,"
spoken

in their VoiceOver label. So, when exploring the app, try a single-finger
double-tap on everything, including a description, to see what happens.

I am certain you will be up and running in no time at all.

The link to the app is:

Enjoy and happy traveling.

Hi, has anyone used the windows version? I took a quick look at it, but could
not get anything to work. Again, I only quickly looked to see if any hot keys
would pull down the menus and had no luck so did not look any further. I see
the cost of the windows version is $19. Would be nice for my GF to have to

An Excellent iOS City Tour Guide Appp

2017-12-30 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I am delighted to report that I found an app that does exactly what I want
when it comes to exploring new cities.

The free app, is called Google Trip.

It is VoiceOver accessible and very easy-to-use.

The controls are well labeled and can be activated via VoiceOver. The only
thing to note is that not all of the buttons have the word, "button," spoken
in their VoiceOver label. So, when exploring the app, try a single-finger
double-tap on everything, including a description, to see what happens.

I am certain you will be up and running in no time at all.

The link to the app is:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-trips/id1081561570?mt=8

Enjoy and happy traveling.

Mark

My suggestion would be that before you power down your phone that you make sure
you click back in Settings until you get to the main area then close Settings

RE: how to get music from an old iPod onto a newer one

2017-12-30 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Fanus,

If you're using a Mac, there is an application called Senuti that will allow
you to transfer your music from one device to another. Senuti is simply iTunes
spelled backwards.

I am not aware of any Windows-based solutions but I am certain that a quick
Google search will return some useful suggestions.

Good Luck,

Hello list
I think it is impossible but maybe there is a way. I want to do this without
going via iTunes because I can not get iTunes to transfer to the iPod. What is
airdrop? Would one perhaps be able to use this to get the music transferred?

RE: Purchasing a kindle book

2017-12-30 Thread M. Taylor
Beverly,

Were you able to download a Kindle title to your iOS app?

I use a Windows 7 PC as my primary computer.

Also, Zoomtext is my screen reader of choice.

Generally speaking, I go to www.kindle.com using Windows Explorer 11.

There is a button that opens the area that allows you to manage all of your
Kindle devices. You should review this area so that you can set a default
Kindle device as your primary reading source.

If you install the Kindle app on your iPhone, the name of your Kindle device
will be the same as the name of your iPhone.

Once you have done this, in your desktop browser, you can search Kindle.com for
any title. You can also search for free titles, as well.

Once you locate the title, you simply click on the buy now button and the title
will automatically be downloaded to your default Kindle device.

Remember, the app must be running on your phone in order for the title to be
downloaded to it. It can take up to 15 minutes before download begins.

I absolutely love, love, love the Kindle app for iOS.

Good luck and let us know what happens, okay?

Mark

RE: Apple Apologizes After iPhone Battery Slowdown Controversy | Time

2017-12-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
One thing to remember is that Apple gets pounded twice as hard as anybody else
if they mess up on something. That's just the nature of being successful. I
don't even want to think how bad it would have been if the battery disaster
that happened with the Note 7 had happened with the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, Apple
would have been slaughtered, certainly a lot worse than Samsung.

It

Hi,

I get around the problem of not being able to use this app on my phone any more
by using the Watch app. At least there I can see the current temp of the probe
which is all I really need. I don’t know if you have to but I have the app
open on my iPhone then I open the app on my watch and monitor the temp.

Hope this helps -Steve

Hi. I don't think siri crashes my IPhone, but sometimes I lose voice-over
after using siri. I just turn voice-over off and on again and that seems to
solve the problem. It happens once or twice a week, and I haven't figured out
a pattern to the voice-over loss.

Hi everyone,
I have an iphone 6 with the newest version of ios 11. I use siri at times to
plan activities within calander etc. But often when i try to use siri it
crashes my ios and I have to reboot the phone. Really irritating. The battery
in my iphone 6 is not all that good anymore (so i am going to have it replaced
in february when hopefully it is ceaper to do it officially) but this also
happens with the phone being fully charged and connected to power… Anyone else
experiencing this too?

Please if you think apple did the accessibility they did because they
love us, I really don't know what to tell you. People try to act like

that, it's just the fact they lied, and they want to cover it up with

2017-12-30 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
For what it’s worth I think this is all a case of a storm in a teacup.

To put the balance straight it is worth remembering that Apple has probably
done more than any other company for us.

I do not accept that there is a conspiracy on Apple’s part.

Happy new year to you all.

siri crashing my ios?

2017-12-30 Thread Anouk Radix
Hi everyone,
I have an iphone 6 with the newest version of ios 11. I use siri at times to
plan activities within calander etc. But often when i try to use siri it
crashes my ios and I have to reboot the phone. Really irritating. The battery
in my iphone 6 is not all that good anymore (so i am going to have it replaced
in february when hopefully it is ceaper to do it officially) but this also
happens with the phone being fully charged and connected to power…
Anyone else experiencing this too?
Greetings, Anouk,
