emoticon button label since version 11.3 upgrade

2018-04-10 Thread R Van Lant
My phone upgraded to IOS 11.3 over the weekend. I noticed today that label for
the emoticon keyboard is now really strange. Anyone else seen this? I wonder
what changed. I can't recall, but I think it used to clearly say "emogi
keyboard" or something like that and now, while I can tell it's saying
something about emoticons, the way it says it is really strange.

RE: Upgrade phone now or wait?

2018-04-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
According to the rumours there will almost certainly be no more 4 inch phone
like the 5S or SE, the 4.7 inch phones like the iPhone 6S/7/8 will be the new
small phones so all of you who like the SE you probably need to get used to the
idea. Of course nothing is toally written in stone, but the SE is a good phone
so I agree, why not wait the second half of the 12 month upgrade cycle, you'll
get a much better deal on an iPhone 8 after the new phones come out in
September.

Well, if the same cycle holds, we're past the half way point of the next batch
of iPhones dropping in September. If you can hold off on scratching that itch
after your last payment is made for a few months, you can see what new stuff
Apple comes out with or try to score a deal on what will at that time be last
year's model which would be the iPhone 8, 8 Plus or iPhone X.

Correct, you can’t send regular SMS messages with an iPad unless you also
have an iPhone on the same WiFi network or you are using some sort of app. I
believe in the US google Voice would allow you to use your iPad much like a

Yes, if you have an iPhone and an iPad, there is a setting that will allow
you to receive calls on the iPad if the iPhone is in range.

You can also double tap on a contact phone number on the iPad and make a
call, again if the iPhone is in range.

But, without an iPhone, you would use FaceTime or Skype.

As for text messages, you can text using your email address to other Apple
device owners with an iPad, but I do not think you can text to a non-Apple
device. That one I'm not sure of, so take that with a grain of salt.

Here is the help information, though the "play video" lines should be ignored
as they are only active when in the app's help section.

Seeing AI

Seeing AI describes the people, text, and objects around you.

Using your phone’s camera, the app says what it "sees". Seeing AI uses multiple
channels to announce different information, such as reading text or describing
faces.

On some channels, Seeing AI will automatically read what it sees. Other times
you may need to take a photo to get a description of the image.

To help you position your phone for the best results, Seeing AI can also
describe where people or objects are in the camera’s field of vision. This
feature isn’t available for all channels.

Seeing AI is an ongoing research project. To help us to improve it, please send
your feedback.

tutorial

Available Channels
[Carousel showing available channels]
Short Text

Hold the camera over some text to have it automatically read to you. As new
text comes into view, it will also be read out loud.

While reading out loud, Seeing AI may start again from the beginning if the
camera captures a clearer image of the text.

[cid:] Play the video
tutorial

Document

Hold the camera over a printed page to capture it. After the text has been
recognized, you can use VoiceOver commands to navigate it.

Seeing AI will guide you with camera placement until all edges of a document
are visible and the photo is taken. Make the necessary adjustments until you
hear “Hold steady”.

A good technique is to place the camera in the center of the page, and slowly
move it away, making slight adjustments.

This channel works best when there’s a high contrast between the page and the
background, like a white document on a dark surface .

Once the text has been recognized, use the play button to have the text read
aloud, with syncronized word highlighting. Use the plus and minus buttons to
change the size of the text.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Weather Gods update and Apple Watch.

Some time ago there was a post from a user looking for an Apple Watch app that
gives more detail on the watch complication than is provided by the native
Apple Weather App.

The latest update of the popular Weather Gods app provides just this
information.

Developed with Voiceover support here’s what the latest update contains.

Hope this is useful to you.

Hi All,

Just a quick note to say that Weather Gods 1.7 should be hitting the App Store.

The biggest update is for the Apple Watch, where we have greatly increased the
range of complications for each watch face.

There is also a dedicated voiceover complication for each face that mimics the
weather wheel, prioritising the weather conditions for each hour.

Other changes to the watch:

- feels like temperature setting is respected throughout, including the
complications.
- we've worked really hard with our beta testers to improve the reliability of
the updating of the watch complication - we think we are there now!
- the main watch app has been voiceover 'tuned'

To activate the new complications:

1. Launch the Apple Watch App on the phone
2. Swipe down until you find Weather Gods in the list of installed apps
3. Double tap to access the Weather Gods watch settings
4. From here, you can swipe through and access the complication configuration
for the different types of watch faces

Any problems then please email me
feedb...@weathergodsapp.com and I will be
more than happy to assist.

Main App Changes

1. Pressure trend has been reworked with the trend calculation following
popular meteorological algorithms. We also indicate if the pressure is rising
slowly or rapidly and the same for when it is falling.

2. Follow me notifications have been toned down and now only trigger if you
have moved 10 miles or 15 kilometres from a previous location.

3. Tapping a notification will launch weather gods and automatically load the
location associated with the notification.

4. The 3d touch on the Weather Gods icon is now working.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to our beta testers and
translators for helping make Weather Gods the app that it is.

Hope you are all having a great Sunday!
Scott

RE: Upgrade phone now or wait?

2018-04-10 Thread joedinero68
I have heard a long time about a refresh of the SE but nothing definitive. So
if you take that off the table and are resigned to the fact that you might have
to carry a phone with a larger form factor I would want to know what kind of
carrots Verizon dangling before I would advise. Personally I would wait until
Black Friday as those are the best deals I have ever seen on the latest models
of iPhones. Last year Sams Club for example had $300 off of a iPhone 8 and $350
off of a iPhone X. I have never really seen anything better throughout the
year.n The other thing to consider is that you are 7 months into the iPhone 8
year and only have a few months til the next incarnation of the iPhone is
available. If I am investing in a new phone I would probably always err on the
side of getting a new one right after the new generation comes out if possible.
Sometimes that is not realistic if a phone is lost or damaged. But in an ideal
world that is what I would do.

Okay, so here’s my quandry. I’m itching like a dog with a bad case of fleas to
upgrade my SE to something else. Verizon is dangling some pretty sweet carrots
my way to go with the 8. The thing is, I really like the form factor of the SE
and how it fits in my hand and pocket, so I’d really like to stick with the
smaller device if possible. So, should I go for the 8 now or hang in there for
a possible refresh of the SE. I have one more payment on this current unit.
What do you all think? Thanks in advance for any insights and have a great day.

RE: Upgrade phone now or wait?

2018-04-10 Thread Cristóbal
Well, if the same cycle holds, we're past the half way point of the next batch
of iPhones dropping in September. If you can hold off on scratching that itch
after your last payment is made for a few months, you can see what new stuff
Apple comes out with or try to score a deal on what will at that time be last
year's model which would be the iPhone 8, 8 Plus or iPhone X.

I agree on this but just want to add my two cents. I have no mobility problems

phone is the much better choice and I can do everything with it faster, it is
smaller to carry around and you only need one device. This is, of course just

Correct, you can’t send regular SMS messages with an iPad unless you also have
an iPhone on the same WiFi network or you are using some sort of app. I believe
in the US google Voice would allow you to use your iPad much like a phone.

Yes, if you have an iPhone and an iPad, there is a setting that will allow you
to receive calls on the iPad if the iPhone is in range.

You can also double tap on a contact phone number on the iPad and make a call,
again if the iPhone is in range.

But, without an iPhone, you would use FaceTime or Skype.

As for text messages, you can text using your email address to other Apple
device owners with an iPad, but I do not think you can text to a non-Apple
device. That one I'm not sure of, so take that with a grain of salt.

Did you read the help file?

On the ShortText, Document, Product channel, Currency, Light, and I think
Color, you do not need to take a picture, just point the camera.

On the others, once you have flicked up to the channel you want, flick left to
the take picture button and double tap.

Below I have copied the entire Seeing AI help. To read it section by section,
in the app, Double Tap on the menu button and select Help.
Or, in each channel, the Quick Help button plays the video by the developer
explaining that specific channel.

Short Text

Hold the camera over some text to have it automatically read to you. As new
text comes into view, it will also be read out loud.

While reading out loud, Seeing AI may start again from the beginning if the
camera captures a clearer image of the text.

RE: Setting Up FitBit using VoiceOver

2018-04-10 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Arnold,

I have had my FitBit for a while. It can be tricky. I don't find the customer
service particularly useful. I used TapTap See to take a picture of the code on
the device screen. With that said, you have to be very fast to switch to the
app and enter the code. If my memory is correct, the code changes each time you
have a failed attempt at entering the code in the app. I did have problems with
filling out the personal information as well.

I think One of the things I do like about FitBit is the food database. It is
pretty extensive and accurate. Spark People is another way to track food and
activity. The app is accessible and has a number of tracking devices that are
supported.

The one thing that is extremely annoying with FitBit is if you would like an
ongoing announcement of your heart rate. Previously, when you opened the app,
you could touch heart rate and it would be announced. Now, I find myself having
to reselect my account just to get a current heart rate. When workingout, after
a short period of time, it stops reading your current heart rate. I'm not sure
if this is due to something I don't know about the FitBit settings or a bug.

Although I love knowing how many total miles I have walked, I think if there
were a way to bring that number into Apple Health, I would totally switch to
the Series III watch.

Hope this helps,

Have a wonderful day,

Lynda

Hi, I hope this will help you.
My husband did have to help me set up my original fit bit flex two, many of the
areas when trying to use this app are not accessible to us. I myself, will not
buy another fit bit, I have called him several times and try to explain the
situation to them, but many of the items have not been fixed and I am not sure
why.
I will probably not buy another fit bit, but will try and save my money or ask
for an Apple Watch for my birthday or Christmas.
I don’t know if this helps
I do exercise, but is more of an interested to see how it works and how it
records my exercise I mow mostly do it for fun, but if you are more serious
maybe the app on the iPhone for health might also help you. If you take it too
serious, it might not be really enjoyable.
Hope this helps you.

Chris, this is great news concerning to eventually have the paid version.. For
scanning it does well. Ever since Richard's message we've been scanning so many
things here in the house. Some of the things we scanned, was the display screen
on the xm radio, on the tv the dish display screen, scanned some postal mail,
scanned the screen from one of our iphone se, scanned the display screen of our
at flip phone, scanned the screen of 2 of our older phones the t-199 a bar
phone and the gusto 3 which is a flip phone, also scanned the microwave screen
and was able to read some items from it, also reading some food labels on
frozen dinners and soup can labels. It was interesting with scanning the
display screens on the phones I mentioned it actually read some things.
Hopefully the location part is better on the paid version.

free light version, and in the near future they will release the paid-pro

help of their smartphone. It will work as your companion when you travel, help
you explore places, tell

  yiu about the objects

in front of you and read text whenever you need. This is what we have built
for you: • Where Am I: Be it the busiest suburbs of Mumbai or the loneliest
roads of Siberia, whether you are a common man or zombie, Eye-D will make sure
that you are never lost.

Tap on “Where Am I” and let the magic happen. You get to know your location
with a list of landmarks nearby. Found any of the landmark interesting? Then
why wait tap the preferred landmark and Eye-D guides you to it with directions
(currently by opening Apple/

Google maps for navigation). • Around Me: Stuck in an alien town? Calm down,
fire the Eye-D app and select “Around Me”. Bingo!! You can now find ATM’s,
Banks, Bus stops, Cinemas, Restaurants, Hospitals, Stores and even the
Religious places nearby. Select the

desired category and navigate to the preferred place. To ensure that you
never miss out a place we have provided a search radius controller. So the next
time you don’t find a relevant place nearby try adjusting the search radius to
anything in the range of

500 to 5500 meters. What? Still in that alien town? Come-on find the nearest
bus stop and head out. • See Object: I’m facing the gate… No the lemon tree….
No the bike, Easy pal!! Use the See Object mode in the Eye-D app to evaluate
your surroundings. Click

on this mode, take a picture and Eye-D app will tell you what’s in front. So
the next time you are standing at the window use the See Object mode to check
what’s happening on the other side. In case you missed the description the
first time simply swipe right
