RE: question about what made those of you select the iPhone 10 over the 8 or 8 plus

2018-04-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Correct, the 4S had a 3.5 inch screen, the 5 and 5S had 4 inch screens as does
the SE and from the 6S to the 7 and 8 the screen is 4.7 inches for the regular
model and 5.5 inches for the Plus model. The iPhone X has a 5.8 inch screen,
but it is OLED which means a much smaller bezel hence the overall size of the
iPhone X is smaller than a Plus phone but with a slightly larger screen.

It's projected price point is about $450.

I agree that I would wait unless your phone is about to die. Their are
rumors that apple will have three new phones out this year. Two of them may
replace the ten but at a different price point. I have had my ten since it came
out. My son wants a ten but the price point is high. I love the ten but I would
wait if the phone would survive. As the previous email stated, there is no home
button so there is a curb to learn the gestures. Also facial I'd is different
but easier as you use it. The gestures are second nature for me and honestly
would not want to go back to a home button.

At this point I would not buy a new iPhone at all unless your

but in the last years many of the rumours which came out in the last 3 months
or so before the new phones were released were pretty accurate so in another 2
months or so we have a very good idea what is coming. The iPhone X did not do
nearly as well for Apple as I am sure they had hoped and I wouldn't be
surprised if last year's iPhone X is going to be completely discontinued this
fall with iPhone 8 and 8 Plus remaining but of course at a lower price, then
maybe the iPhone 7 will also stay as an entry-level phone and there will of
course be the new 8S and 8S Plus or whatever they will be called. Whether there
will be another 4 inch phone like the SE is questionable.

Almost specs of 6S, it has the same processor but first generation touch Id and
no 3D touch. I assume of course that a new SE would have second generation
touch Id as well as 3D Touch.

surprised if last year's iPhone X is going to be completely discontinued this
fall with iPhone 8 and 8 Plus remaining but of course at a lower price, then
maybe the iPhone 7 will also stay as an entry-level phone and there will of
course be the new 8S and 8S Plus or whatever they will be called. Whether there
will be another 4 inch phone like the SE is questionable.

What are the main gestures differences that are helpful with
the 10? I was thinking of waiting and getting the second generation SE, but
might be willing to spend more money if the 10 is really easier and has more

I'm not for sure where you are located, but Apple still do sell
the iPhone 6S plus. Or at least I do see it being available with
the Apple Store app here in the United States. However, I don't
think I would pay the $549 for the 32GB or $649 for the 128GB for
a device released in 2015.

Everything you should know about Apple's SE2

By Kevin Downey, Komando.com

Do you like secrets? Do you love seeing new tech devices long before your
family and friends do?

Well, if you're an Apple diehard fan, you know the story. Apple has a way of
leaking specs and photos of upcoming iPhones months before they hit store
shelves, or at least Apple fuels the flames of the rumor mill.

Rumors start to get wilder and louder before they eventually settle down into
something resembling the truth. That phase is usually a few weeks or months
before an official announcement.

If you haven't heard, we're in that stage now with iPhone SE 2 rumors.
Speculation for Apple's lower-cost, fewer-frills iPhone have been wild and
fiery for the past few weeks.

Now, this is what most analysts and Apple insiders know (or believe) about the
iPhone SE 2. The phone is a pretty impressive update of the 4-inch-display
iPhone SE that was released a couple of years ago, if rumors are to be
believed.

SPECS

Apple's iPhone X is its top-of-the-line iPhone with its newest features, like
3D facial recognition and a 5.8-inch display. The iPhone SE 2 is a basic
smartphone with fewer bells and whistles.

Yet, it's a pretty impressive phone, if these spec rumors prove to be true.
It's expected to run on Apple's latest operating system, iOS 11.

The SE 2 will also use Apple's A10 Fusion chip. The current iPhone SE uses the
A9.

The iPhone SE will have 2G of RAM, according to people in the know. It will
come with two storage options, 32GB and 128GB.

THE BELLS AND WHISTLES

The current SE has an aluminum back. The SE 2 will likely have a glass back,
like the new iPhones.

That most likely means it will have wireless charging. However, it will keep
the older iPhone feature, a 3.5 mm headphone jack - Apple's new iPhones don't
have that.

CAMERA

The SE 2 has pretty impressive cameras. It will have 12MP for its rear camera,
comparable to the iPhone X, but a 5MP front-facing camera - the X has 7MP.

PRICE

The SE 2 is an affordable smartphone, certainly compared to iPhone 8 and iPhone
X. The 8's starting price is $699 while the X starts at $999.

The SE 2's rumored price tag is $450. That's quite inexpensive and puts it
right in line with the cost of some refurbished iPhones.

TOUCH ID

The iPhone SE, the one currently available, uses Apple's fingerprint
biomtetrics Touch ID as a security measure. There were rumors that the SE 2
would upgrade to iPhone X's 3D technology, but Apple insiders say SE 2 will
stick with Touch ID.

RELEASE DATE

The big question surrounding the iPhone SE 2 is its release date. There are a
couple of things to note here.

Apple typically announces new releases in June and then at its big annual
hardware event in September. But the SE 2 isn't likely to be Apple's big
release this year.

This is a lower-cost, fewer-frills smartphone that Apple might release a little
bit under the radar. In fact, its target audience is likely to be the
international market.

So, what does that mean? The current rumor is that it will be released soon,
before summer.

That rumor is gaining steam with the increasing number of leaked SE 2 photos.
The rumors about the SE 2 are starting to come into a consensus, which is a
good sign something's about to be announced.

Yet, other rumors say the SE 2 will not be released until this summer. Other
reports even push its release all the way back to next year, 2019.

RE: Working with videos on an iPhone 7?

2018-04-30 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi Jim, as near as I can determine, iMovie, which is free, is going to be the
best way to attempt to do this.
Now, I have good success trimming the beginning or the end of a video, but the
trick is, when you want to perhaps delete something out of the middle.
Fortunately, if you have a Bluetooth keyboard, this process is a lot easier.
With the keyboard, you need to pause the video, then press command B to split
the tracks.
Now, somehow, through this process of splitting and then joining tracks, you
can get an edited video suitable for posting to Youtube.
Please keep in mind that I am just starting out with this entire concept of
video editing, but I am pretty certain that with some practice, and knowing the
Bluetooth keyboard commands, of which there are quite a few, I really feel
that this can be accomplished successfully.
Thanks.

Good morning,
I tried sending a message to the list yesterday but don’t know if it got there,
so I thought I’d ask again.

Two days ago, I had someone video record something on my iPhone 7. Now, I’d
like to see if I can go into the video, take a clip or two from it, and be able
to post it on Youtube or Facebook.
The entire video is too long, but if I can find a way of taking some parts,
that would be great.
What app might be useful for this job? Does anyone have experience in doing
something like this, and if so, might you be willing to give me some advice or
assistance?
Thanks very much.

deleting a folder from within the reminders app

2018-04-30 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi all. I posed this question a week or so ago and got no answer, so just
in case it didn’t come through I’ll ask once more. Does anyone know how to
delete a folder from within the reminders app. I have a folder called
IPhone that I’d like to get rid of. It seems that any time I ask Siri to
add a reminder it goes into that folder, and I don’t need the folder anyway.
I’ve tried swiping up on the folder name to get to an edit field so I can
delete, also tried using the roter and going into the edit mode to see if
there is a delete prompt. I’ve also looked from within the folder and don’t
see a delete prompt. Any thoughts.

Thanks for all your good advice over the years.

God bless!

Paula and garçon

Re: question about what made those of you select the iPhone 10 over the 8 or 8 plus

2018-04-30 Thread Maria Reyes
I remember hearing a rumor saying that the iPhone SE2 may launch in May. But
that rumor hasn’t gotten a lot of hype.

I chose the iPhone X because I was ready for a change in design. Sometimes I
find myself doing the iPhone X gestures on my iPad.

RE: question about what made those of you select the iPhone 10 over the 8 or 8 plus

2018-04-30 Thread Cristóbal
I'm waiting to see what shakes out either with the traditional refresh in
September or if the fabled SE second generation actually comes out so I can
upgrade from my trusty SE.
I at this time have no interest in face ID or paying a premium for that
particular feature.
In fact, I'm more inclined to go for a model be it an 8/8Plus or even an SE II
or even if one of their three rumored phones this year if it would come with
that fingerprint unlock feature. I know it's a blind/Voiceover thing, but I
just prefer to be able to unlock or interact with my phone if need be without
having to take it out of my pocket. Be it for weather or privacy/personal
security circumstances.
I would have to imagine that Apple in consideration of pricing in developing
markets would keep around a touch ID and headphone jack on at least one
iteration of the iPhone

2018-04-30 Thread Michael Maslo

I agree that I would wait unless your phone is about to die. Their are rumors
that apple will have three new phones out this year. Two of them may replace
the ten but at a different price point. I have had my ten since it came out. My
son wants a ten but the price point is high. I love the ten but I would wait if
the phone would survive. As the previous email stated, there is no home button
so there is a curb to learn the gestures. Also facial I'd is different but
easier as you use it. The gestures are second nature for me and honestly would
not want to go back to a home button.

Working with videos on an iPhone 7?

2018-04-30 Thread Jim Portillo
Good morning,
I tried sending a message to the list yesterday but don’t know if it got there,
so I thought I’d ask again.

Two days ago, I had someone video record something on my iPhone 7. Now, I’d
like to see if I can go into the video, take a clip or two from it, and be able
to post it on Youtube or Facebook.
The entire video is too long, but if I can find a way of taking some parts,
that would be great.
What app might be useful for this job? Does anyone have experience in doing
something like this, and if so, might you be willing to give me some advice or
assistance?
Thanks very much.
Jim Portillo

RE: question about what made those of you select the iPhone 10 over the 8 or 8 plus

2018-04-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The iPhone X has no more home button at all, if you are in an app and want to
get back to the home screen you can't just p[ress a button any more, you have
to touch the screen at the bottom near where the home button used to be and
then do a swipe up gesture, same applies for the app switcher, instead of a
double press of the home buttton it is also a swipe gesture.
At this point I would not buy a new iPhone at all unless your old one has
completely given up the ghost or is about to do so and you absolutely need a
new phone now. In 6 weeks or so it's Apple's developer conference which is when
iOS 12 will be introduced and information about th enew phones this fall will
start coming out soon, yes they will be rumours,, but in the last years many of
the rumours which came out in the last 3 months or so before the new phones
were released were pretty accurate so in another 2 months or so we have a very
good idea what is coming. The iPhone X did not do nearly as well for Apple as I
am sure they had hoped and I wouldn't be surprised if last year's iPhone X is
going to be completely discontinued this fall with iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
remaining but of course at a lower price, then maybe the iPhone 7 will also
stay as an entry-level phone and there will of course be the new 8S and 8S Plus
or whatever they will be called. Whether there will be another 4 inch phone
like the SE is questionable.

Sieghard

Hello, the reason I chose the iPhone ten was because I wanted the latest and
greatest. I also wanted to try the new gestures and then I wanted to see if I
could unlock my phone with facial I'd. I will say I am really glad I did get
the ten. I was using the eight plus and after using the ten and holding the
ten, the plus is huge. I really like the feel in my hand. I also really like

Re: Scheduling to record with Tune In

2018-04-30 Thread Earle
I am able to schedule recordings with no problems at all. You need to be using
the pro version. After you have the alarm set, and the recording enabled, you
have to double-tap options and choose clock display. Your device also needs to
be unlocked and plugged in, for it to work. So if you have auto-lock turned on,
you need to disable it in settings.
Hope this helps.

RE: Airplay 2 announcement from Sonos

I’m sure there is, but I don’t have time right now to search for it. Anyhow,
apart from being a smartspeaker which supports Amazon Alexa at this point and
other assistants such as Google Assistant and probably Cortana down the road
it’s mostly the same as a Play 1.

Hello Sieghard
Thanks for sharing this with us. Since I have 2 Sonos play3 speakers I am very
tempted to buy a Sonos One to get airplay. I did a google search for the Sonos
One user guide but as far as my internet issue allows me to go, I only find the
.pdf document for the play1. Do you perhaps know if there is a .pdf guide for
the Sonos One?

Subject: Airplay 2 announcement from Sonos

Hi Sonos fans,

I received an email today which gives a bit more information about Airplay 2
and Sonos. Of course everybody is still waiting for Airplay 2 to actually make
its first appearance, but here is what we can look forward to and what we can’t.
If you have a new Play 5, Sonos 1 or Playbase (that is the one designed to be
used like a Playbar except it also acts as the stand for your TV, e.g. you
stand your TV on top of it) then you are in luck as those devices will support
Airplay 2.
If you only have a couple of Play 1, Play 3 or one of the old Play 5 or
Connect/Connect Amp then you are out of luck.
The good thing is that it only takes one of the players which support Airplay 2
to bring it to your entire system just as currently I have an Apple Airport
Express hooked up to just one of my Connects, I can Airplay to this Airport
Express but instead of playing it on the Connect which it is connected to I can
play it on any of my Sonos players. This of course is because the Airport
Express is simply a line-in source. I think if you, for example, had a Play 5
but in other rooms you only had Play 1 or Play 3 units you can Airplay directly
to the Play 5, but then I think you would need to group the other players with
it. Of course that is only my assumption because they sort of phrase it that
way in their announcement, I guess we won’t really know how exactly it will
work until it is available.
I am almost tempted to go and buy a new Play 5 or a Sonos 1 which of course is
much cheaper, but I think I will sit this one out until Airplay 2 is actually
available, who knows, maybe it won’t come until iOS 12 in the fall and by then
Sonos might have announced more smart speakers like a Sonos 3 or Sonos 5 or
maybe something altogether different. Anyhow, here are the highlights from that
email I received:

AirPlay 2 coming this year
AirPlay to select Sonos speakers.

AirPlay the sound from your iPhone, iPad or Mac straight to Sonos One, Play:5
and Playbase.
AirPlay to any speaker with Sonos One.
Group any Sonos speaker with a compatible player to unlock AirPlay for your
entire system.

Video on your iPhone. Sound on Sonos.
Watch a video on any Apple device and listen to the sound on Sonos in perfect
sync. Binge Netflix on your iPad and enjoy the sound from Play:5.
Watch a YouTube video on your iPhone and listen out loud with Sonos One.

“Hey Siri, play Beats 1 radio in the kitchen.”
Apple Music listeners can use Siri to play and control music on
AirPlay-compatible Sonos speakers. Ask Siri to play Apple Music using your
iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch.
Add your AirPlay-compatible speaker to the Apple Home app to get started.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I suspect the default voice is changing just fine, but your rotor is
not on the default voice.
I have the iPhone SE, I have Siri Female as the default voice, but I
tend to leave the rotor on Tom Enhanced because VoiceOver will change language
when on the default voice when you hit text with a code from another country.
Like someone writing from France, the voice will switch to french from the
default voice, but not from a secondary voice on the rotor. I prefer Tom, so I
keep the rotor on Tom.
Having said all that, I just set the rotor to the "default Voice" which
as I said is Siri female.
Then, I went into VoiceOver speech settings, double tapped on the
default voice.
I then double tapped on Samantha Enhanced, and the voice changed
immediately to Samantha.
I backed out of the settings, and hit the home button, and Samantha is
still speaking.
I went back in and switched the default voice back to Siri Female, and
Siri female began speaking immediately.
I went out of settings, and it is still using Siri Female.
I will now turn the rotor to Tom and am back on Tom.
So, make sure the rotor is set to the voice you want, and then turn the
rotor to another item, like words, so you do not accidentally change the voice.
HTH,
Richard

I had that happen a couple times about a year ago. It has nothing to do with
the update. This was with an iPhone 6s as well.
If you do not know how to eject the SIM card, you may need to call Apple or get
sighted assistance.

Re: Airplay 2 announcement from Sonos

2018-04-30 Thread Fanus
Hello Sieghard
Thanks for sharing this with us. Since I have 2 Sonos play3 speakers I am very
tempted to buy a Sonos One to get airplay. I did a google search for the Sonos
One user guide but as far as my internet issue allows me to go, I only find the
.pdf document for the play1. Do you perhaps know if there is a .pdf guide for
the Sonos One?
Regards
Fanus

Sieghard

Re: question about what made those of you select the iPhone 10 over the 8 or 8 plus

2018-04-30 Thread Michael Maslo

Hello, the reason I chose the iPhone ten was because I wanted the latest and
greatest. I also wanted to try the new gestures and then I wanted to see if I
could unlock my phone with facial I'd. I will say I am really glad I did get
the ten. I was using the eight plus and after using the ten and holding the
ten, the plus is huge. I really like the feel in my hand. I also really like
the gestures. In regards to battery life the ten is not bad. There again I keep
screen curtain on and raise to wake disabled. I am able to get around twenty
four hours before I have to recharge my phone. I hope this helps.
