Re: Question About Muse Meditation App

2018-09-09 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Richard,

If you're talking about 10% Happier, the book has a link near the beginning. If
you follow that link, all the Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics material will be
free to you, regardless of whether you get a subscription. I believe the app
also has a Meditation Basics course that is always free, and when they
introduce new courses, some material is free. So even if you don't subscribe,
there will be quite a bit of material available, especially if you follow the
link in the book.

Also, while subscribing usually costs $100 for a year, they send out sale
coupons sometimes. Over Labor Day weekend, for example, it was 50% off,.

Best,
Anna

Did you try turning the voice function off and on again? I think you hold the
top right and top left buttons in the six pack for 3 seconds. Otherwise, you
might call Amazon accessibility hotline.

anyone know how to turn it back on? I have turned off the set and back on to no

For years i purchased the NFL Audio Pass, even though its accessibility was
always questionable. When they dropped it I contacted the NFL, but no joy. I
was told that blind folks can just buy the game pass app like everyone else.

cheap, around 3 dollars. You get multiple feeds for all of the teams. I think
it is a rebranding of the Pro Football Radio app. I do have that one as well,
and it still works, even though coverage was spotty during the preseason
because many stations don't stream the preseason games.
Sirius XM is another alternative as well as Tunein Radio Premium.

you want to listen to NFL football you need to buy the entire package it isn’t
cheap and it isn’t fair The NFL package was you get to watch the games on TV

to get that one alone for 40 bucks for the entire season but now they want you

worked for him for a long time but he says this is no-longer the case. Is there
an app that is accessible with VoiceOver on an old iPad that will deliver the

think he has XM Radio or anything else like that.

Re: Listening to Pro Football on iPad

2018-09-09 Thread Marie
Thank you for telling us about this app. I purchased it and used it today and
it is fantastic. Much like the original Pro Football Radio app but better. What
a bargain and I got to listen to the Seahawks game today after all.

I have an app called Game Day. I can't remember how much it cost, but it was
cheap, around 3 dollars.

The problem with the NFL is they aren’t giving anything away for free if you
want to listen to NFL football you need to buy the entire package it isn’t
cheap and it isn’t fair The NFL package was you get to watch the games on TV
which does me no good being totally like you also get coaches watches which is
also useless the only part of the package at a useful for me is the radio
broadcast where you hear the announcers describe the games you used to be able
to get that one alone for 40 bucks for the entire season but now they want you
to pay for the whole package which is $99.99 I am not paying them 100 bucks
just to listen to Chicago bears lose again or any other team for that matter it
isn’t worth 100 bucks for a blind man The best thing the end FL can do is to
fire Roger get Dale he is the one who started this where everything has to cost
money

A couple of years ago I recommended Pro Football Radio & Live Scores
+Highlights by JJACR Apps, LLC to a client to listen to football games. It
worked for him for a long time but he says this is no-longer the case. Is there
an app that is accessible with VoiceOver on an old iPad that will deliver the
audio of all the upcoming pro games? It doesn’t have to be free, but I don’t
think he has XM Radio or anything else like that.

  Thanks!

RE: Question About Muse Meditation App

2018-09-09 Thread Richard Petty
I did just download it and tried one of the brief meditations. It was quite
nice. I arranged the 7-day trial. Apparently at the end of 7 days, I will need
to subscribe. That seems different from your description. Is there something
I’m misunderstanding?

By the way, I read the book and found the appendix to be one of the best “how
to” descriptions on meditation that I’ve read.

Thanks so much.

Hello Richard,

Since you are looking for an accessible meditation app, you might want to
consider 10% Happier. It isn't fully accessible, but thanks to VoiceOver's
ability to figure out which text goes with controls, it's usable. There are a
couple of things to keep in mind:

If a new meditation has been added, it's easy to double-tap and give it a try.
If you're not interested in trying it, I've had best results removing the app
from the app switcher and restarting it.

Some meditations have different options for length. Unfortunately, these don't
currently work with VoiceOver.

I subscribed anyway because there are good meditations in the app. You get some
for free, so you can try it out. Also, if you buy the book Meditation for
Fidgety Skeptics by Dan Harris from Audible, you get a code that gives you all
the meditations from the book in the app for free. It's on BARD as well, but I
don't know if you get the coupon for the app. At any rate, you can really try
the app before spending any money.

I hope that helps.

Best,

Anna

2018-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is indeed, I have a 6S Plus which was new in January of 2016 and my battery
health showed as 83% of full capacity last January when the phone was 2 years
old. I had it replaced at an Apple Store at the end of May since this qualified
for their $30 battery replacement program which still runs until the end of
2018 and when I just checked it shows me also 98%.
My wife got her iPhone 6S in April of 2016 so it is a few months newer than
mine and she was also around 83 or84% when her iPhone was 2 years old and we
had her battery replaced at the same time.
Are you sure that given your advanced age you didn't also have the battery
replaced earlier this year but forgot *grin*

Hi Sieghard,
I check my battery health and it showed it was 98 which I believe is pretty
good for a phone that is going to be three years old this spring. I have a 6s
plus.
Thanks for the suggestion. Have any other ideas why this is happening.

Hi Ed,

Have you checked in Settings > Battery > Battery Helalth to see if maybe SIRI
says there is a problem because your battery is old?
I am on the iOS 12 public beta, but if I bring up SIRI and say "battery Check"
all I just got was "Your battery is at 13% and that exactly matched what was
displayed in the status bar.
I plugged my phone in about 3 or 4 minutes ago and when I now say "Battery
Check", SIRI says 16%, it does, however, not say it's charging which is
indicated in the status bar.

Hi Keith,
When I asked Siri for a battery check she gave me the percentage and then she

the percentage. For some reason when you say battery check she gives there is a
problem. Check it out on your iPhone.

I ask from across the room when the iPhone is on the charger, and I want to
know how much longer I'll need to charge it before heading out for the day. My
phone charges about 1% per minute, so if I want a full charge, and it's at 80%,
I'll give it another 15 or 20 minutes, if I'm not in a hurry. It saves a little
time, especially if my hands are full or I'm otherwise busy. Keith

Im just curious as to why you would ask Siri about the battery status on your
device when all you have to do is touch the upper left corner of the device?
Does Siri give more info than I would get by touching the battery percentage in
the upper right? Not saying that your way is wrong. Like I stated, just
curious. I hardly ever use Siri. I prefer to search Google myself. I have my
apps in folders by category. And dictation..well..if Im going to have to proof
read & make corrections, I find it just as fast to type e-mails & text
messages.

Re: Question About Muse Meditation App

2018-09-09 Thread Anna Dresner

Best,
Anna

2018-09-09 Thread Mr. Ed

Hi Keith,
When I asked Siri for a battery check she gave me the percentage and then she
said there is a problem. Now if I just say Hey Siri Battery she just gives me
the percentage.

And dictation..well..if Im going to have to proof
read & make corrections, I find it just as fast to type e-mails & text
messages.

I'm not sure how this app is going to work
because from what I can tell it only gives one
feed per team. If you can't fine what you're
looking for one thing you can do is go to
freefootballradio.com
and click on schedule. There you will see a
rather large list of radio stations streaming
both sides. I'm always able to find a station
that streams the Dallas Cowboys games even
though most of the bigger stations along the
network don't. Once you find a station that
works you can stream that station on the road
and hear your games. This also works well with
Alexa devices. I have the second generation
echo and it sounds awesome. The old pro
football radio app did give a comprehensive
list of stations that could be streaming your
games. But this game day app seems to only give one feed per team.

have not yet found a similar app for the NBA,

ultimately offer it. We'll have to wait and

Re: How to change keyboard layout on Logitech K480?

2018-09-09 Thread Richard Turner

It sounds like you paired it using the Android/Windows mode and not the iOS/Mac
mode. I have the same keyboard and the Options key is where it should be,
between the FN key and the Command key.
The iOS/MAC mode is the right most rectangle key that you hold down for pairing.

One warning, though, Fanus, John Denver has some awesome songs, but maybe one
day I’d like to visit South Africa and if I do I’ll come visit.

If I do don’t ever play all 5 John Denver albums or I’ll add one more song to
the end of your play list, it is this one:

Bubba Shot The JukeBox by Mark Chesnut and you can feel free to call me Bubba
and think of your iPhone or Sonos spleaker as the JukeBox in that case *grin*

In case you don’t know the song, here it is:

Bubba Shot the JukeBox on Youtube

You can of course always just ask SIRI to play it.

Take care,

Sieghard

You could try asking Siri to “Play John Denver” or “Play John Denver from my
music”. It may, or may not, play the tunes in the sequence you wish, but you
could try it and see. I ask Siri all the time to “Play Artist Name” and it
does, but mostly I don’t have music downloaded onto my phone, so it streams
from a channel it selects.

Hi

Go to library in the music app. Select the 1st album, I start the album
playing. Open the next album you want to play. Swipe to More. In the list of
opttions is Play next, tap on this. Do the same for the 3rd album. Tap to open,
swipe to More, swipe to Play Next, tap & all 3 albums should play without
stopping.

Hello, list

Here is an example of my problem. I have five albums of John Denver on
my iPhone. I want to play those albums one after the other. When I select
artist from the music main screen and navigate to john Denver it still shows
the names of the five albums and when I activate the play button it plays the
first album but it does not automatically continue to the second album. I have
to select each album and activate the play button again. Is there a way to play
all the music of an artist sequencially?

Regards

Fanus

RE: [EXTERNAL] Re: Siri says, 'Sorry, something's wrong. Please try again.'

2018-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Hi Keith,
When I asked Siri for a battery check she gave me the percentage and then she
said there is a problem. Now if I just say Hey Siri Battery she just gives me
the percentage.

And dictation..well..if Im going to have to proof
read & make corrections, I find it just as fast to type e-mails & text
messages.

I assume for the same reason why I would say "turn off WiFi" or "Hey Siri, what
is the time", it's convenient and if my phone is sitting on the table and I'm
lying on the couch I don't even have to pick it up or walk over to it. The same
goes if I am walking with one side of the Earpods in my ear and I have the
phone in my coat pocket or hip holster, much easier to push the button on the
remote and ask SIRiI to do stuff or tell you something.
Can I unlock my phone, bring up the control centre or go into Settings >
Bluetooth to turn it off? Sure, but why go through all the trouble if I don't
have to.

2018-09-09 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Keith,
When I asked Siri for a battery check she gave me the percentage and then she
said there is a problem. Now if I just say Hey Siri Battery she just gives me
the percentage.

And dictation..well..if Im going to have to proof
read & make corrections, I find it just as fast to type e-mails & text
messages.

RE: [EXTERNAL] Re: Apple music playing music by specific artist

2018-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Take care,
Sieghard

Thanks, Peggy. Thatseems to be what everyone is sayibg. But I found a prize

I would make a playlist with all the John Denver albums I have and then play

I’m listening to the Titans game right now, though it is suspended due to
lightning…

I just switched to the Vikings and the first button that says “vikings Radio”
is playing just fine.

I'm not sure how this app is going to work because from what I can tell it only
gives one feed per team. If you can't fine what you're looking for one thing
you can do is go to
freefootballradio.com
and click on schedule. There you will see a rather large list of radio
stations streaming both sides. I'm always able to find a station that streams
the Dallas Cowboys games even though most of the bigger stations along the
network don't. Once you find a station that works you can stream that station
on the road and hear your games. This also works well with Alexa devices. I
have the second generation echo and it sounds awesome. The old pro football
radio app did give a comprehensive list of stations that could be streaming
your games. But this game day app seems to only give one feed per team.

I stand corrected, the GameDay app does give you a list of stations. I was a
bit confused in the beginning because it gives you the different network
associated stations first. However, if you keep flicking through you’ll see an
entire list of all the stations that carry the games. You might have to try
several of them, but eventually you’ll probably get lucky and find one.

I think TuneIn is still offering the NFL radio broadcasts via TuneIn premium
for 10 dollars a month. That is a better deal than the NFL package, and you get
the rest of the TuneIn Premium content, for which I wouldn't normally pay 10 a
month, but might use some of it since I would be paying for it anyway. I am
going to try this Gameday app, but if I have to pay for TuneIn premium, I
probably will.

I have five albums of John Denver on my
iPhone. I want to play those albums one after the other. When I select artist
from the music main screen and navigate to john Denver it still shows the names
of the five albums and when I activate the play button it plays the first album
but it does not automatically continue to the second album. I have to select
each album and activate the play button again. Is there a way to play all the
music of an artist sequencially?

Re: Listening to Pro Football on iPad

2018-09-09 Thread Gordon
I'm not sure how this app is going to work because from what I can tell
it only gives one feed per team. If you can't fine what you're looking
for one thing you can do is go to freefootballradio.com and click on
schedule. There you will see a rather large list of radio stations
streaming both sides. I'm always able to find a station that streams the
Dallas Cowboys games even though most of the bigger stations along the
network don't. Once you find a station that works you can stream that
station on the road and hear your games. This also works well with Alexa
devices. I have the second generation echo and it sounds awesome. The
old pro football radio app did give a comprehensive list of stations
that could be streaming your games. But this game day app seems to only
give one feed per team.

I have been using the Pro football app all during the preseason, and it works
fine. I have not yet found a similar app for the NBA, but the NBA has offered
an Audio Pass for $9.99 for the whole season. Last year they didn't offer it
at the beginning, but I did some advocacy with the NBA and they did ultimately
offer it. We'll have to wait and see if they offer it again this year.

Hi - I was going to share the links to the other two apps but apparently it
won’t let me. I tried searching for them in the app store but they didn’t show
up. They are all three named GameDay but are designated as Pro Football,
College Football, and Pro Basketball. The college one worked on my iPhone last
week but haven’t tried the pro basketball yet this season. Guess they are no
longer offering the other two, so maybe they won’t keep them updated either. So
sorry guys!

Andy, I, too, have the GameDay app, and I absolutely love it! They also have
apps for college football and pro basketball, which I also have. There are ads
that you have to swipe past, but it's no big deal to me, especially since the
apps are so inexpensive with no subscriptions. Here is the link to the NFL

The problem with the NFL is they aren’t giving anything away for free if you
want to listen to NFL football you need to buy the entire package it isn’t
cheap and it isn’t fair The NFL package was you get to watch the games on TV
which does me no good being totally like you also get coaches watches which is
also useless the only part of the package at a useful for me is the radio
broadcast where you hear the announcers describe the games you used to be able
to get that one alone for 40 bucks for the entire season but now they want you
to pay for the whole package which is $99.99 I am not paying them 100 bucks
just to listen to Chicago bears lose again or any other team for that matter it
isn’t worth 100 bucks for a blind man The best thing the end FL can do is to
fire Roger get Dale he is the one who started this where everything has to cost
money

RE: Join Me in Requesting that VoiceOver Accessibility be Added to Head Space, an iOS Voice Guided Meditation App

2018-09-09 Thread Richard Petty
On August 11, 2018, I emailed HeadSpace technical support about access issues.
The main screen seems somewhat manageable, but the content subscription I
purchased contained no accessible content. I requested and received an iTunes
store refund, which required help from the Apple accessibility team. I received
this response from Arianna:
"I apologize for the trouble that you've had with trying to use the app via
Apple's VoiceOver feature. Unfortunately the VoiceOver feature is one that our
team is still working on perfecting. For now, we are aware that there is room
for improvement and rest assured it's something that we're working on. As we
continue to develop our product this is a high priority. For now, we
unfortunately do not have a workaround but I can assure you that I'll pass
along your feedback/suggestion to the appropriate team."

When I asked how any access improvements would be announced, she suggested
following their email and watching for app updates. Apparently, it's a long
development curve for HeadSpace to improve access.

Subject: Join Me in Requesting that VoiceOver Accessibility be Added to Head
Space, an iOS Voice Guided Meditation App

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year to you all.

A voice guided iOS meditation app, Head Space, was showcased on the NBC
weekend news, yesterday. The basic features of the app are free so I
decided to give it a try.

I was most impressed, however, sadly, at present, I cannot recommend it for
blind/ low vision users as some of the initial screens and subsequent
controls are not VoiceOver accessible.

So, please join me in requesting that VoiceOver accessibility be added.

While there is no direct email address available, a very simple and
easy-to-use request form may be submitted at:
https://help.headspace.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Of course, you may also submit a request for accessibility via the app's
page in the App Store at:
https://appsto.re/us/WUmzD.i

Finally, I will paste in some information about the app below my signature.

As always, thank you all for your support,

Mark

Customer Reviews
My favorite app
by olivia24

This is the only app I pay for, and it's certainly my favorite. I have used
it for 2 years and it keeps me on track with my meditation practice. There
are "packs" I like more than others, but overall I'm really impressed with
the simple and effective guided sessions. It keeps me accountable and it
provides me with lots of guided meditations to choose from, including
exercises on sleeping, happiness, focus, appreciation, anxiety, etc. What I
pay for the app is less than going to one in-person meditation class a
month, so it's well worth it for me considering how much of an improvement I
see in my mood and outlook when I'm meditating.

In terms of cons, my biggest pet peeve about the app is that if you decide
midway through a pack of themed sessions that you don't like it, or want to
switch to a different pack, the only way to do that requires losing all your
progress -- you have to finish your current pack before starting a new one.
Some packs are 30 sessions, which makes this quite a commitment. For
example, I didn't like the "relationship" pack and I was actually avoiding
meditation or sticking with the "classic singles" (unthemed guided or
unguided meditations that you can do whenever without disrupting your
progress through a specific course). When I realized how silly that was, I
switched to a new pack -- losing all my progress in the relationship pack,
which I'd gotten something like 20 days into. Annoying.

Overall though, I highly recommend it!

An unexpected blessing
by Katyia
I never write reviews but I'm compelled to write this one. I battle with
anxiety and PTSD. I've been introduced to meditation in the past and found
it slow and boring. I was never able to sit still long enough to keep up the
practice. Recently my doctor suggested this app and from the first day I was
hooked. I find Andy's voice peaceful, calming, and compassionate in what
feels to me to be a very noisy, scary world sometimes.
I am only on day 5 of the first 10 days, but already I feel more in tune
with my body and mind. I'm having more compassion for myself and my chronic
health issues and I actually take the time to sit down and meditate because
I'm important and this is "me" time!
I look forward to this every day and last night when I was struggling to
sleep, I used some of the tools I've learned already, to help me fall off to
sleep. I believe in meditation now, and I'm excited to see the changes that
will come from learning how to meditate. In some ways this app is a
lifesaver and I believe can help add years to my life by helping me deal

Hi,

I'm going to make a crazy app recommendation since the app I'm recommending is
not quite accessible yet. Key word is yet.

buddhify: mindful meditation by Mindfulness Everywherebuddhify: mindful
meditation by Mindfulness Everywhere
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/buddhify-mindful-meditation/id687421118?mt=8

It was featured on radio shows where I heard developer speak and in other "life
hack" type of podcasts. Different from headspace and other of the top
mindfulness apps out there, it is a 1 time buy with no subscription.

So I tried it and totally not accessible. However, I wrote the developer and
response was incredible. I got refund from him and they promised accessibility
updates.

Now they released a major one and it actually mentions vo improvements. Still
one cannot use the actual meditations yet but the reading material about
meditation the why and the how is now usable and very well done.

I have high hopes and wanted to at least give a shout out to a great responsive
mainstream developer that promises to do things for vi users.

Another that offers a few good meditations is called Simply Being.

Question About Muse Meditation App

2018-09-09 Thread Richard Petty
Chris and all,

How is current accessibility of the Muse hardware and app? Chris, you had
included useful information in your 2015 posts. Knowing access can sometimes
change and before making the significant investment, I wanted to know if Muse
is still accessible.

Also, is the battery charge level shown on the app? Some reviews show the app
becomes less accurate as the headband battery discharges.

One other curiosity: Another reviewer wrote the app could not distinguish
between meditation, working puzzles or sleep. Have any had any experience with
this?

Thanks so much.

RE: Phone No Longer Announcing Who is Calling

2018-09-09 Thread sherrywells1157
Well, apparently writing an email to this list was enough to fix my problem re
my phone not announcing who is calling. It suddenly started working again. I
have done nothing but my phone now announces the caller again instead of just
ringing.

It was not muted. As I said in my original email, I could hear the phone ring
& could hear who was calling if I touched the text near the top of the screen.

So, no idea what changed but will not complain until / if it stops working
again.

settings under phone & it does have announce set to always.
I looked around under notifications / phone. It says badges, sounds & banners.
 I think that is everything...

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sherry Wells

Apple music playing music by specific artist

2018-09-09 Thread Fanus
Hello list
Here is an example of my problem.
Regards
Fanus

Re: Listening to Pro Football on iPad

2018-09-09 Thread Andy Baracco

They also
have apps for college football and pro basketball, which I also have. There are
ads that you have to swipe past, but it's no big deal to me, especially since
the apps are so inexpensive with no subscriptions. Here is the link to the NFL
Gameday app in the app store:

Sirius XM is another alternative as well as Tunein Radio Premium.

The problem with the NFL is they aren’t giving anything away for
free if you want to listen to NFL football you need to buy the entire package
it isn’t cheap and it isn’t fair The NFL package was you get to watch the
games on TV which does me no good being totally like you also get coaches
watches which is also useless the only part of the package at a useful for me
is the radio broadcast where you hear the announcers describe the games you
used to be able to get that one alone for 40 bucks for the entire season but
now they want you to pay for the whole package which is $99.99 I am not paying
them 100 bucks just to listen to Chicago bears lose again or any other team for
that matter it isn’t worth 100 bucks for a blind man The best thing the end FL
can do is to fire Roger get Dale he is the one who started this where
everything has to cost money

A couple of years ago I recommended Pro Football Radio & Live Scores
+Highlights by JJACR Apps, LLC to a client to listen to football games.
It worked for him for a long time but he says this is no-longer the case.
Is there an app that is accessible with VoiceOver on an old iPad that will
deliver the audio of all the upcoming pro games? It doesn’t have to be
free, but I don’t think he has XM Radio or anything else like that.
 Thanks!
