Re: Mail App not Always Vibrating and Dinging with New Mail

2018-10-02 Thread Kathy Brandt
In case this helps: I wasn’t getting notification of any new mail. I went into
settings, and discovered that the sound selected for incoming mail was none. I
went through the auctions, and discovered that my former incoming sound was
under the classic options. I selected the traditional incoming message sound,
and ever since, have gotten a sound notification.

Hi Julie,

It’s the Blindside podcast.

Now, here’s where I run into the shortcut problem in Tuner Radio pro. As I
said, I had to manually create the station info by putting in the url IP
address and then made it a favorite.

When I go into trying to create the shortcut, I don’t see the station. I can
see one other favorite station, but not this particular one.

Thanks.

Oh, for the person who wants to just tell Siri to read the newspaper in NFB
newsline. First I think that Newsline would need to support Siri shortcuts. I
stand to be corrected since I’m just learning this new feature.

Even if this would work, you probably would need to be able to point Siri to
the particular section that you would want to read. Just my beginner thoughts.

I manually put in a station and made a favorite out of it. I was able
to perform a Siri shortcut for a couple of popular stations. But I'm
stuck on being able to use a shortcut to play this station.

This app rocks by the way. Thanks.

to perform a Siri shortcut for a couple of popular stations. But I'm
stuck on being able to use a shortcut to play this station.

This app rocks by the way. Thanks.

Subject: Mail App not Always Vibrating and Dinging with New Mail

Hello, everyone.

I just updated my iPhone SE to iOS 12, and I notice that often, when I
open the Mail app, the phone does not vibrate or make a sound when new
mail is downloaded. When I go to "Settings -> Sounds," "Vibrate" is
set to "Alert," and the "new mail" sound is set to "Classic Ding."
Has anyone noticed this behavior? Whether I receive vibration and
auditory notice of new mail appears to be quite intermittent. Today,
the alert fails more often than it succeeds.

Thanks for all help.

Craig

Hi Julie,

It’s the Blindside podcast.

Now, here’s where I run into the shortcut problem in Tuner Radio pro. As
I said, I had to manually create the station info by putting in the url IP
address and then made it a favorite.

When I go into trying to create the shortcut, I don’t see the station. I
can see one other favorite station, but not this particular one.

Thanks.

Oh, for the person who wants to just tell Siri to read the newspaper in
NFB newsline. First I think that Newsline would need to support Siri
shortcuts. I stand to be corrected since I’m just learning this new
feature.

Even if this would work, you probably would need to be able to point Siri
to the particular section that you would want to read. Just my beginner
thoughts.

Subject: Siri shortcut Query

I listened to Jonathan's podcast where he discussed Siri shortcuts and
Tuner Radio Pro.

I manually put in a station and made a favorite out of it. I was able
to perform a Siri shortcut for a couple of popular stations. But I'm
stuck on being able to use a shortcut to play this station.

This app rocks by the way. Thanks.

Hi Julie,

It’s the Blindside podcast.

Now, here’s where I run into the shortcut problem in Tuner Radio pro. As I
said, I had to manually create the station info by putting in the url IP
address and then made it a favorite.

When I go into trying to create the shortcut, I don’t see the station. I
can see one other favorite station, but not this particular one.

Thanks.

Oh, for the person who wants to just tell Siri to read the newspaper in NFB
newsline. First I think that Newsline would need to support Siri shortcuts.
I stand to be corrected since I’m just learning this new feature.

Even if this would work, you probably would need to be able to point Siri to
the particular section that you would want to read. Just my beginner
thoughts.

Re: Siri shortcut Query

2018-10-02 Thread Paul Parravano
I’d love to know how you get Siri to open an app? I would like to have Siri
open NFB newsline, and begin reading “my newspaper”. Any thought on how to do
this please?

Also, I’d love to set a shortcut that will do the iPhone steps for pairing with
my braille display. I realize that you need to prep the braille device for
pairing, but it would be nice to have the phone do it’s prep with a shortcut.

Thanks for any suggestions on if and how these two tasks can get done.

It should work if you just invoke Siri and say whatever word or words you
attached to the shortcut. So you might’ve use the call letters for your radio
station for instants. That’s how they work for me. Somebody reported somewhere
that the stations wouldn’t come up voiceover was active. The audio was muted. I
have not had that happen.

Siri shortcut Query

2018-10-02 Thread lynn white
I listened to Jonathan's podcast where he discussed Siri shortcuts and
Tuner Radio Pro.

I manually put in a station and made a favorite out of it.  I was able
to perform a Siri shortcut for a couple of popular stations. But I'm
stuck on being able to use a shortcut to play this station.

This app rocks by the way.  Thanks.

The same thing is happening for me. Also, when I flick right from the edit

flick left to get back to them. I have noticed this last thing for quite a
while.

God bless!

Braille iPhone8 or iPhone X & later?

2018-10-02 Thread Avnish Chopra
I plan to learn Braille using the iPhone to type the characters. Would it be
better to start with the iPhone 8 or is there any distinct advantage in using
the iPhone X or later? That is an iPhone without the home button.
I have never learned Braille earlier, would it be better to learn contracted
Braille or un contracted Braille?
Any suggestions or advice would be highly appreciated.

What happened to the “samples“ collection in the new version of Books on iOS?

2018-10-02 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
My subject line question says it all. There used to be in iBooks a collection
called samples. Anytime you downloaded a sample for an iBook, it went there. If
you bought the book, of course the book goes into your library and you can put
it in whatever collection you want. Are used to get some samples and then after
collecting a few, I would go in and delete them all. It was convenient. You
knew where all your downloaded samples went. Now I just went in there into
collections, and looked through all my collections. No samples. So now I have
to try to hunt through my iBooks library to try to weed out samples. Surely, I
am missing something, and there is an easier more efficient way.

Re: ne

2018-10-02 Thread Kelly Pierce
T-Mobile wants as many people as possible to upgrade to a 10 because
it can receive 600 MHz signals that T-Mobile just added. These allow
signals to reach farther distances and penetrate buildings much
better. I was in a big church on Saturday. When I had T-Mobile my
iPhone 7 showed no service because the signals could not penetrate the
concrete and stone structure. I had good reception with Verizon, which
I have now.

Okay, so I should have checked before. If I ask Siri to open Game Day, I am
asked which one to open. Choices are Game Day Pro Football Radio or Game Day
College Football Radio. So now I will just re-name one of the icons so I will
know which one if I tap on them. Thanks.

I think you are correct about Siri not recognizing the custom label. But I have

also says only “Game Day”. I can keep them in separate places but if I ask Siri

the new R 10 phones. I have found in the past this helps with the speed of
texting. If anyone knows of any overlays out there please let me know. Thank

I’m fairly sure that Siri cannot find icons with custom labels.
There might be a way now with Shortcuts in iOS 12, but I’m not sure.

Hi Marie,

While focused on the App, do a two finger double tap and hold, wait for the
tri-tone, then you should have an edit box where you can change the name. I
haven't confirmed if the changed name will be located by Siri.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

I know this has been discussed before, however I can not find any reference to
it. Could someone please refresh my memory of how to re-name an icon on a home
screen. And once it is re-named, can Siri locate it by the new name? Thanks,
Marie

Hello Lelia,

I just tested my Focus 40 Blue with two Kindle titles and all worked as
expected.

As in iOS 11, in the Kindle app, the Braille display works best when
VoiceOver speech is muted/disabled.

Re: Kindle with braille displays and the latest update?

2018-10-02 Thread Diane
Hi, Lelia, they have updated Amazon Kindle twice recently and, miracle of
miracles, it hasn't broken either time. I was sitting my rocking chair
yesterday afternoon with my phone and my Braille display and it was reading
fine. It flips to the next page like it's supposed to. You'll be okay with
it. It says in the thing on the app store that they just added a few new
library features. I don't know if they help the sighted people or us or
not.

God bless.
