Moore questions regarding my Plantronics voyager headsets

2018-11-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
 Hello everyone,

I don’t know so much about questions about the headset itself. But I have
questions as to how it should be used with my phone.

For instance, can I leave the call routing on automatic?
Or do I need to set it to headset?

Also, sometimes when I have the Europeans in, if I touch it varies slightly,
it tends to go back through the speaker of my phone.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thank you,

Terri

Hi,
If you double tap and hold on the letter you will get a popup asking you to
choose an alternative character so maybe try not to press too hard on the keys?
That's the only thing I could think of.

RE: Synching Audible book on to Apple watch

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just out of curiocity I just tried it again with the book Deep Freeze by John
Sandford (that fucking Flowers is one of my favourites)!
Sorry, for those who don't know the Virgil Flowers books by John Sandford,
that's usually how the agent from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension
is referred to.
Anyhow, it's a 10 hour 2 minute book, it's been saying "Cancel syncing" for a
while when I checked which indicates it should still be syncing.
After maybe 20 minutes it now says:
Paired Apple Watch is not responding
Connect your watch to a charger, make sure airplane mode on Apple Watch is
turned off and try connecting your watch and phone again.
So yes, this works great, it's such a smooth experience that it makes we want
to immediately delete the Audible app from my Apple Watch and just use my
iPhone or Alexa enabled speakers where listening to a book just works.

Hi,

Has anyone managed to successfully sync and Audible book from their
IPHONE across to their APPLE watch?

I am running the latest IOS and watch OS on my IPHONE 6  and watch
series 2.  All I get is a message saying "can't communicate with watch"
which is strange as I can ping the phone from the watch and all my other
Apps communicate across the two devices fine.

As for the charging it means you probably have nightstand mode on, turn this
off in settings and make sure raise to wake is turned off and it will not do
this. You can even turn off to wake it by turning the digital crown up, turn
this off and tap to wake and it will only wake up if you actually press the
digital crown.

How can I get my watch to stop talking constantly?

Its quite annoying.

Hi Carol,

The easiest thing is to ask Siri to start the kind of workout you want.
However, with Watch OS 5, the watch will usually detect when you've started
a workout if you forget to tell it ahead of time. It will make a guess as to
the kind of workout you are doing, and you can accept that guess or pick the
right kind. It can also detect when you've stopped working out and ask if
you want it to stop recording one

Best,
Anna

RE: Synching Audible book on to Apple watch

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This is a truly miserable experience.
When Audible first introduced the Apple Watch app I was listening to a book
called Wolves by D. J. Molles to my watch.
The book is 18 hours and 19 minutes and at first I couldn't figure out why when
I opened the Audible app on my watch it kept saying I needed to first transfer
a book by syncing it to my watch.
I eventually ignored it and a few days later happened to check and the book was
then on my watch, why something like can't transfer over Wi-Fi in minutes I am
not sure.
Anyhow, on the watch there then shows the title and there are 4 buttons which
just say "Button". By trial and error I figured out that the bottom right
button is the sleep timer. The one above on the right as well doesn't seem to
do anything until I force press it, then it opens a menu where I can delete the
book, I can set speed and a few other things.
On the left are also two buttons one on top of another and unlabelled and I
haven't quite figured out what they do. When I double tap on the bottom left I
hear a sort of tone and then Voiceover speaks the title and when I double tap
again it starts playing, however, none of the 4 buttons seems to stop playback
and I had to go into my Now Playing screen where I have labelled buttons for
Pause, 30 seconds rewind and 30 seconds skip.
Anyhow, I really don't have time for such nonsense especially since I can't
even listen on my Apple Watch speaker. This would be the only use I currently
have, I could maybe turn the volume quite low and with my watch near my head I
could listen at night without having to use a headset and without disturbing my
wife, sort of like a pillow speaker almost. But you can only listen with a
Bluetooth headset so I might as well use my iPhone or, even better, when I am
at home I can just tell my Echo to play my book since I have my Voyager Edge
paired with my Echo speaker as well. Here I can tell it which book and if I am
already listening to a book I just say "Alexa, play my book" and it will start
where I left off on my iPhone or if I was listening on a different Echo device
including my Sonos One speakers.
If Audible wants people to use their Apple Watch app to listen to books they
better make this a better experience first.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: Synching Audible book on to Apple watch

2018-11-11 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Gary,

I got a 1.5-hour book onto the watch when it was plugged in overnight. I
couldn't transfer a 9-hour book, though. Transferring is slow and likely to
fail, so your best bet is to do short books. And nothing will transfer unless
the watch is on the charger.

HTH,
Anna

Synching Audible book on to Apple watch

2018-11-11 Thread 'Gary Robinson' via VIPhone

Thanks

Gary

RE: Treadmill with Bluetooth connectivity and accessible app

2018-11-11 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Different strokes for different folks I suppose. Back in college, I used to
workout at the gym with my buddies. Weights and all that.

Now that I’m older and don’t have so much time to fart around at the gym and
have other responsibilities and generally don’t like the idea of being at a
place that’s all loud and have to hassle with all the accessibility challenges
that would go into maneuvering around a gym full of equipment and people, I’m
more a workout at home body weight type of person with a couple of machines.
The treadmill because I like the activity of walking and while I did have a
guide dog in the past and am cane competent, sometimes, you just want to zone
out and not have to pay attention to your surroundings. Turning off your mind
and blasting your music or podcast or audiobook or whatever is a nice option to
have. The stationary bike with its digital screen we have other than the manual
option really isn’t accessible, but we got that over 10 years ago and it’s
still going strong. Maybe if and when it gives out, I’ll consider getting
something that has some sort of Bluetooth connectivity like the treadmill, but
for now, it’s not that big a deal. Other than that, we’ve got a rower and I use
kettlebells, resistance bands and gymnastics rings on a pull up bar.

An Apple watch really hasn’t called my attention and other than the treadmill
with its bluetooth and a interval timer app I use on my iPhone depending on
what I’m doing, I keep it pretty basic.

Not considering apps/services like Netflix or YouTube or Pandora that can help
to make the time go by a bit faster. In this regard, it’s helpful to have two
iOS devices. One to stream whatever you want and another if you wish to use a
timer.

Oh boy, what will they come up with next. I had never yet heard about these
full body vibration gadgets, sounds like something you hear on an infomercial
in the middle of the night. Wasn't there at one point something similar, some
sort of belt you put around your waist and then it vibrated and it was
supposed to tone up your stomach muscles, get rid of stomach fat and all that.

When I just Googled "full body vibration platforms" my first thought was how
can something like that possible have any benefit with respect to
cardio-vascular fitness. Here is an article from the Mayo Clinic's website, the
link si first and I did put the text below as well. This would confirm what my
common sense tells me and while the doctor who wrote the article says it can
have some benefits, it still sounds like a gadget to me, something which
promises more than it delivers, something where there just is no actual proof
and something which is meant to make you feel good about working out when
really you are not doing much.

One of the key conclusions from the article is this sentence: if you want to
lose weight and improve fitness, enjoy a healthy diet and include physical
activity in your daily routine.

It seems the entire industry which is built around healthy eating and fitness
which is worth billions in the US alone is all focused on one thing: you need
to buy all this weird food stuff, supplements and what not and you need to buy
expensive fitness machines and if you do that you get slim and fit without
doing much. What they don't say is that you can be healthy and fit by simply
eating a healthy, balanced diet of quality food and by getting your butt off
the couch and outside. Keep in mind that I am generalizing a bit here, I am
fully aware that what I say applies to people who are in a position to do this.
If somebody is unable to do this because maybe they are not healthy enough then
sometimes things like a treadmill or exercise bike is a great way to get at
least some exercise, but there is little excuse for not buying healthy fresh
food and turning them into meals which are good for you, of course if you still
eat three times the amount you should eat then even the healthiest meal is bad
for you and the same applies if you constantly stuff yourself with chips,
cookies, chocolate and other junk. Is it easy to go out for a brisk walk when
it's pouring rain or when it's 30 below with the wind blowing? No, of course
not and there is nothing wrong with shifting to more indoor exercises, but I
find it much more satisfying to go to my local pool and since most pools also
have fitness rooms I can combine a good workout with a half hour swim then if I
had a treadmill at home where I can do one thing only. Let's face it, most of
us don't have the money for a gym which includes the variety of workout
machines that you find in a gym which has $20,000 or $30,000 worth of equipment
from weights and strength training machines to treadmills, bikes, rowing
machines, stair

RE: ANOTHER QUESTION ON THE WATCH

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As for the charging it means you probably have nightstand mode on, turn this
off in settings and make sure raise to wake is turned off and it will not do
this. You can even turn off to wake it by turning the digital crown up, turn
this off and tap to wake and it will only wake up if you actually press the
digital crown.

Hi Carol,

The easiest thing is to ask Siri to start the kind of workout you want.
However, with Watch OS 5, the watch will usually detect when you've started a
workout if you forget to tell it ahead of time. It will make a guess as to the
kind of workout you are doing, and you can accept that guess or pick the right
kind. It can also detect when you've stopped working out and ask if you want it
to stop recording one.

Best,
Anna

RE: [BlindTech] Recommendations For A Printer for routine printing

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sometimes yes, sometimes it could even be more. Most printers come with a small
toner cartridge and you can then buy a regular sized one and in many cases an
XL size is offered. If all you need to do is print text and you buy a Laser
printer which can only print black then a large toner cartridge will last you
for a very long time, some of them do something like 10,000 pages.

The same can be said for HP and probably Canon. I have always been partial to
HP printers and I completely agree that one should only get a colour printed if
absolutely necessary, also if you don't need a colour printer you absolutely
should get a Laser printer and not an inkjet printer. OK, this last comment
applies more if you print very infrequently. I recently replaced my HP Laserjet
1012 which I bought probably around 2002 or 2003 with an HP Laserjet Pro M102W.
It cost less than $100 on Amazon and it's a nice little printer, I just need
this one in my office primarily for printing cheques and the occasional
document, but I have a larger OfficeJet which can do colour if I print more.
This M102W can not do automatic duplex printing, for my usage that is OK, but
if it was my main printer I would never buy one which can't do that.

RE: ANOTHER QUESTION ON THE WATCH

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I could see how any other workout but an outdoor walk would kick in sooner, for
a walk it is most difficult to figure out whether it's an outdoor walk for
exercise or just a walk where you go from point A to point B although Apple
could maybe lower the threshold a bit since I really have to walk fast for it
to kick in. I'm not a slow walker, but even walking normally for me will not
trigger it after 15 minutes, I have to deliberately walk fast.

RE: Treadmill with Bluetooth connectivity and accessible app

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Let's face it, most of
us don't have the money for a gym which includes the variety of workout
machines that you find in a gym which has $20,000 or $30,000 worth of equipment
from weights and strength training machines to treadmills, bikes, rowing
machines, stair climbers and so on OK, here now that article"

Is whole-body vibration a good way to lose weight and improve
fitness?

Is whole-body vibration a good way to lose weight and improve fitness?

Answer From Edward R. Laskowski, M.D.

Whole-body vibration can offer some fitness and health benefits, but it's not
clear if it's as good for you as regular exercise.

With whole-body vibration, you stand, sit or lie on a machine with a vibrating
platform. As the machine vibrates, it transmits energy to your body, forcing
your muscles to contract and relax dozens of times each second. The activity
may cause you to feel as if you're exerting yourself. You may find a whole-body
vibration machine at a local gym, or you can buy one for home use. Advocates
say that as little as 15 minutes a day of whole-body vibration three times a
week may aid weight loss, burn fat, improve flexibility, enhance blood flow,
reduce muscle soreness after exercise, build strength and decrease the stress
hormone cortisol. But comprehensive research about whole-body vibration is
lacking. It's not yet clear if whole-body vibration provides the same range of
health benefits as exercise you actively engage in, such as walking, biking or
swimming.

Some research does show that whole-body vibration may help improve muscle
strength and that it may help with weight loss when you also cut back on
calories.

Whole-body vibration may also have a role beyond sports and fitness. Some
research shows that whole-body vibration, when performed correctly and under
medical supervision when needed, can:

• Reduce back pain

• Improve strength and balance in older adults

• Reduce bone loss

Still, if you want to lose weight and improve fitness, enjoy a healthy diet and
include physical activity in your daily routine. If you choose whole-body
vibration, rememb

2018-11-11 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
If it's like any other modern treadmill, you should be able to pare it to some
third party app to access your workout info. Mine along with the Nautilus app
that is fully accessible can sync with My Fitness Pal, Map My Walk, but I
haven't really looked at the built in health app. You could also give Run
Social or one of those services a try too.

Hi Mary,

Neither of us have really used the app. We both looked at it, but at least a
year ago, the iPhone app had a lot of accessibility issues, so I kind of just
gave up on it, especially since it did have such awful ratings. I haven't
tried it lately, though, and can't remember if it has had any recent updates,
so it may be worth a try for you.

Hi Pam,
Well, I think the basic functionality will be fine, and my physical therapist
will be happy, so what’s not to like?
On the other hand, have you guys found anyway to make the program is
accessible? And have you had the same kind of really lousy lock that everybody
else report regarding the app and the connectivity with things like the Apple
health app? I think it would really be cool to have the data in the health app.

Re: Treadmill with Bluetooth connectivity and accessible app

2018-11-11 Thread Yohandy Rodriguez

Hey guys,

Since we're on the topic of treadmills, has anyone checked out full body
vibration platforms? they are said to be better and more effective than
treadmills, but I don't know much about them unfortunately. I have been
researching the topic and was planning on getting one, sounds like a
really nice peace of equipment to have, but I'd like to get feedback
from those on here that have tried it. are they actually effective at
increasing muscle strength and bone density and whatnot, and do you feel
like you got a decent workout after vibrating on one of these for a
while? How durable are these machines, and which would you recommend?
thanks for your help!

I did go and check out the sole F63 treadmill today. And, assuming that the
measurements work out OK, we are getting one. The rails on the side are
probably somewhat shorter than some might like. But for me, as a walker, they
are fine. There are easily detectable large buttons on the top of both the
right and the left rail. These buttons are for controlling to speed for the
ones on the right, in the incline for the ones on the left. In addition, it
does have the safety feature where you put this square metal thing into an
easily detectable place on the consul, and then you attach the other and do
your clothing. To the right and left of where the safety clip goes, there are
two very large tactile buttons. One is for starred in the other is for Scott.
You don’t have to bend down or lean forward or anything to CDs. At least I
didn’t. I can’t comment on the Bluetooth, since it was a in-store model. I’m
not really holding out too much hope for that, given the really bad reviews for
the app. The machine it’s self seems pretty quiet. I could certainly here my
feet on the treadmill as I walked.
And when my cited husband tried it, and had the speed turned up higher than I
did, I could actually hear the motor. But it certainly didn’t seem all that
loud. I’m sure if you could watch TV or read a book or whatever with no
problem. The treadmill seems smooth, and it reacts well to pressing of the
buttons for the speed and incline. For $900, which was the sale price, I think
it’s a good deal.

Now you made me check. Looks like they've got it at $1300 with a $75 coupon and
I think free assembly.
I know when I grabbed it, I got it at a good deal. I did see it go lower than
$900 once, but I missed out on that time and didn't feel like waiting any
longer for an extra few more bucks off.
Another thing I should mention, if you get this or any other machine via Amazon and opt
for the assembly, make sure to check who Amazon assigns to your order. These people like
a lot of other folks are contractors. Not Amazon employees. You can check their ratings
and review their previous work. The first guy Amazon assigned to my treadmill assembly
had "ok" ratings with a couple of bad reviews, but we did notice that he didn't
really have much if any experience putting together workout equipment or treadmills.
Mainly shelves, ceiling fans and other stuff like that.
Since it was a significant purchase and my big heavy butt was planning on using
it for years to come, I called Amazon and requested they send me someone who
had experience with slapping together treadmills instead.
The free assembly was a nice perk, but I still tipped him 30 bucks. It took him
over an hour to get everything up and running. Cardboard for days.

Well, this treadmill is definitely still available. In fact, when I went back
to Amazon again a couple of days after making that original post, the treadmill
was there. It had been said to be unavailable. So I have no idea what’s going
on. But as of last night, it was available on Amazon. Of course, I have no idea
how much shipping costs or how you get it put together. But that would be true
for any treadmill that you got shipped to you as opposed to having it delivered
and set up by a local store.

Very nice review indeed. Apparently that model isn’t made now. They had a link
on the review page for the site that has the best price according to them,
which turns out to be Amazon. But then amazon said that item is no longer
available but there was a newer model. I think that Cristobal is right that
seeing it before you buy it is really impor
