Re: a question about favorite radio apps

2018-11-23 Thread Arlene
Arnold, Janet, and everyone, between last night and to night we got the free
version of iheart, tunein, ootunes which we paid for which was $4.99 radio.com,
and there was another radio app called simple radio which we got sort of
accidentally which has lots of commercials and it's free. do you have less
commercials popping up with the paid versions of the apps, such as with iheart
and tunein. So far we really like iheart and tune in, and we like ootunes as
well which we purchased. I think it was on tunein I was able to go to the local
talk station in London, england, and the talk station in sydney, austrailia. I
haven't had a chance to see if I could get these 2 stations on ootunes, the one
I just bought, but I'll try it after I go through some messages. We also got
hulu about 2 or 3 months ago, and it was great to hear about the lower price
that was on for yesterday at 99 cents, but we're paying about $12 a month, so
can you call hulu on the phone to look into this more? thank you for that
information. The other adio app which we've had for quite a while now is the xm
radio app, and the tv app for our cox cable, both are verry accessible and we
love using these apps.

In my opinion, the best general-purpose radio listening app is tune-in radio.
It has both free and paid versions. Besides being able to search for specific
stations, there is a lot of sports, news, talk, and other categories. The
TuneIn premium version, which costs 9.95 a month, adds professional sports, and
programing similar to XM radio. If I only could have one radio-listening app,
it would be TuneIn.

But the app I still use most often is Ootunes. It was written specificly for
Apple products, it is easy to use, and its developer seems very caring about
his subscribers, even though Ootunes is not his primary focus. I don't think it
offers the range of different programing as TuneIn, but Ootunes is the one I
use most. It is not free, I don't remember how much it is, being that I have
had it for years, but I would buy it again.

The radio.com app is free. It would be great to find an app that you could go

Hello Donald,
Both apps have a mechanism by which you can schedule a trip in
advance, but as Andy stated, the feature could be market specific. In
the Uber app, the feature for me appears right after the where to
button, and in the Lyft app, the feature appears after I have already
placed the destination and pick up in.

Re: Package tracking apps no longer working for me

2018-11-23 Thread Robin Frost
Hi Sir,
I have noticed Shiprack running a bit slower but no can’t reproduce the unknown
number here. Sometimes I do notice that Parceltrack doesn’t AutoDetect the
carrier so if I tap on courier and then just select it and then save it seems
happier.
I totally understand wanting to track especially this time of the year. Have
you tried manually selecting the courier in Parceltrack? I also after pasting
the number in review by character to make sure there’s nothing extraneous at
the end like any tabs or spaces. That seems to make it happier as well.

Hi List,

I'm wondering if anyone else using package tracking apps is having the same
issue I'm experiencing. I use both ParcelTrack and ShipRack but the past few
shipments I've tried tracking with either app return an unknown carrier after I
paste in the tracking number. When this happens, I'm unable to track the
package with the app. I've gotten this on shipments handled by FedEx, UPS, and
the US Postal Service. I really like tracking my packages especially during
this time of year when packages have a better chance of being misappropriated
from one's porch.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue or does anyone know what's causing
it? I'm very careful inputting the tracking info into the apps and always copy
and paste the tracking numbers.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6. The reason I want
to remove it is because on my old phone 6, I keep getting a message to update
my Apple id settings, but when I enter my current password in order to update,
I get a message saying wrong password, because it is asking me to update to an
old Apple id, and I have no idea what that password was because I haven't used
that password in over 3 years. I was quite surprised to see this as well.
Matter of fact, I have the exact same problem with iTunes on my Pc, and that is
the reason I can't use iTunes on my Pc because I don't remember the old
password. I'm not even sure how or when all these changes came about, or
unless when I changed my Apple id 3 years ago, and I didn't update certain
settings. I'm not sure. I also can see on the phone my current Apple id as
well, so this is rather confusing. In short, I don't remember the password to
the old Apple id as I said I haven't used that for at least 3 years. I've had
several problems with my old phone 6, and this could very well be at least one
of the problems, or maybe the culprit. LOL! Now, the question, can I change
the old Apple id to my current Apple id, just so I don't have to start changing
all these Apple id's and passwords? If that makes any sense!
This is getting to be quite annoying.
Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Question re Uber and Lyft apps

2018-11-23 Thread Donald Roberts
I have both the Uber and the Lyft app on my iPhone 6. Can some list member tell
me with certainty whether there is a mechanism on either app to set up a trip
in advance.

I ask because several months ago it was necessary to go to a major airport
almost a hundred miles from my home. The guy that showed up decided he really
didn't want to drive to that airport. So I need to schedule the trip in advance
if possible. No emergency, we would just like to schedule our next trip in
advance if possible.

Thanks for feedback.

Re: Hulu is On Sale For $0.99 a Month For Black Friday

2018-11-23 Thread Yohandy Rodriguez
I actually subscribed to this deal earlier today. had gotten the email
as well. I did not know Hulu had signed into an agreement to make their
content accessible! funny thing about this is, I actually was having
tons of issues signing up to the $0.99 deal earlier, and I was speaking
to an agent in their chat, trying to get it resolved. I finally got it
working. he was a really awesome down to earth dude, so I decided I'd
toss the descriptive video question at him and see what happened. I
basically mentioned there were tons of us blind and visually impaired
viewers that have been waiting for this for a long time, and if he knew
anything about it. He admitted he hadn't even considered how tough it
could be to watch some content without description, but he actually told
me he was going to speak to some guys so they could get in contact with
those responsible for this sorta thing. he said he was super interested,
and gave me his word that he'd be on top of it till he got a response.
he also mentioned he was a volunteer for Be My Eyes, which I thought was
really awesome! really nice to run into amazing people like that from
time to time.

I know right now, the service is lacking in regards to accessibility,
but Hulu did enter into an agreement where they would begin to offer
ore accessible content and improve upon their app and site
accessibility. Whenever that is sometime next year, one could at least
be subscribed.

Also, as with Netflix, you can have a main account and have a few
subprofiles. My wife renewed her Hulu sub since she dropped it a
couple of years ago and went ahead and created one for me this time. I
forwarded this same deal to my sister who also renewed her sub and
created account for each of my parents so everyone can have their own
recommendations and whatnot.

Just keep in mind, if you go for the family/ multiple user option,
it’s one log in and you have to select who’s watching after that. So …
having a unique PW for this account is probably a really good idea if
you’re not already making a practice of it. You don’t even have to be
the main account holder since you can piggyback on someone else’s
account if they jump on this deal.

Re: a question about favorite radio apps

2018-11-23 Thread Steve Matzura
That's radio.com. Listen on-air and you'll hear lots of stations say "a
radio.com station."

On 11/22/2018 11:09 AM, Arlene wrote:
I've heard about the radio app just called radio, but in searching for
it there's a radio.net and a radio.com, so I don't know which one that
it was that I heard about, where you could go to different radio
stations. It would be interesting to hear about other favorite radio
apps. Thank you.

Changing an old Apple id.

2018-11-23 Thread janet gross
Janet

Hi,

Go to settings, general, accessibility, VoiceOver, and then go all the way down
to speak notifications on or off. You can turn it off here. The sound will

The DIRECTV box, is in accessible?

2018-11-23 Thread juan mojena
Hi all

Sorry for the off-topic message. It is somewhat tangentially related because
it’s about the sell phone. I’m getting offers from AT about bundling The sell
phone service with DIRECTV satellite service. My question is does anyone have
experience with the DIRECTV satellite service? Does the box have speech output?
My current service from dish does have speech output. It is a little bit
annoying at times because it speaks a lot of stuff that I don’t need or want. I
would really appreciate any responses, Opinions etc.
Juan .

Black Friday 2018: Get the $100 App Store and iTunes Gift Card for $80 Today Only

2018-11-23 Thread Mary Otten
This is the first 20% off of iTunes gift cards I have seen in a very very long
time. 15% is not uncommon. But at least in my experience, 20% is much less
common.

Black Friday 2018: Get the $100 App Store and iTunes Gift Card for $80 Today
Only
MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors / Mitchel Broussard

App Store and iTunes gift cards are perfect stocking stuffers and super simple
for last-minute gift giving, so if you're on the hunt for a few of the gift
cards this Black Friday we've rounded up the best sales in this article.

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with some of these vendors. When you
click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps
us keep the site running.

Amazon and Costco offer the biggest discount on iTunes gift cards this Black
Friday, providing rare 20 percent discounts on the cards today only. Like many
of the sales in the list below, Amazon and Costco will send the iTunes gift
card to you in an e-mail within a few hours of purchase. These 20 percent
discounts on iTunes gift cards are rare, so if you're interested check out the
sales -- and all of the others -- in the list below:
Amazon - Get the $100 iTunes gift card for $80 (with code ITUNES20)

Costco - Get the $100 iTunes gift card for $79.49

Costco - Get the $25 iTunes gift card for $21.49

PayPal via eBay - Get the $100 iTunes gift card for $85

Target - Buy one get one 30 percent off

Best Buy - Get the $50 iTunes gift card for $40

Staples - Save 10 percent on select iTunes gift cards

Meijer - Get the $25 iTunes gift card for $21.25
If you decide to go with Target's offer, opting for the higher $100 iTunes gift
card will net you the biggest savings. As an example, BOGO 30 percent off deals
(when purchasing two cards of the same amount) will break down like this:

- Buying two $15 iTunes Gift Cards = $25.50
- Buying two $25 iTunes Gift Card = $42.50
- Buying two $50 iTunes Gift Card = $85
- Buying two $100 iTunes Gift Card = $170

our full Black Friday Roundup.

So it won’t matter where you are.

Yes you can. As long as you both are on WiFi during the voice and/video call,
no data charges to worry about.

Re: Passcode issues

2018-11-23 Thread Marie N.
Actually, I think my biggest problem is a lack of patience. The face ID is
getting better for me. Part of it is learning how to hold the phone so that it
is really directed at your face and yes, I too learned that often, just doing
the Home gesture causes the feature to work. I really do like the phone over
all and it took practice to get the gestures so I am sure the face ID will be
the same.

Hi Marie,

I’m sorry to hear about your problems with the face id. I had the same
problem, and wow, can that be annoying! It was actually driving me crazy! Did
you ever call Apple? If so, can I ask you what they told you? Have you tried
going back to the home screen when the face id doesn’t work, and when it
continuously asks for your passcode? I now find when it asks me for my pass
code, and if I swipe up from the very bottom of the screen just a little until
I feel the first vibration, and lift my finger, I can then try the face id
option again, and the majority of the time it will unlock the phone. I’ve also
noticed if I hold my phone up to my face with my left hand, the phone will not
unlock, but if I hold up the phone with my right hand, I have a much better
chance of unlocking the phone. Strange I know, but it is what it is! Smile!

Matter of fact, I also had a difficult time when I was setting up face id
myself, I was setting up the face id feature holding the phone in my left hand,
and VO kept telling me face id is not available on this device, so I thought ok
I’m going to try this for the fourth time, and I used my right hand then, and
sure enough, the face id feature was accepted. Who knows, but I must not be
holding the phone directly in front of my face when using my left hand. Go
figure. Smile! I would like to know how your phone is now working though.

enter the darn thing constantly. Is there any setting that will reduce the need
to enter the code so often? In the passcode setting there is a section about

Please help me with this before I lose my mind totally. LOL

RE: Blue Tooth Tooth Brushes?

2018-11-23 Thread Bill Outman
Well, I suppose if we want better accessibility of the app we should inform
Oral B of the problems with it.

I don’t see a pressing need for this device, and I can’t resist a little humor
about it. First of all, Bluetooth is one word, not two, as I originally
thought it was. I suppose someone could end up with a blue tooth by eating
blueberry muffins or pancakes, or just blueberries. Then your toothbrush could
brush that blue tooth. This would all be after we had found our thrill on
Blueberry Hill.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. We all need a little good humor now and then.
Seriously Bluetooth devices are handy. What we do without our Bluetooth
headphones, keyboards, Braille displays and other such items.

Hope all in the U. S. had a happy Thanksgiving Day.

Hi,

I, too, have one of the Oral B brushes and really wanted to take advantage of
the brush reporting fecilities. Unfortunately the app is virtually inaccessible.

The brush has a physical button which allows you to, by default, cycle through
about six brushing modes – basically by adjusting the speed of the motor and
the amount of time the motor runs before it warns you to move to the next part
of the mouth. I did manage to use the app to narrow this down to three options,
but even that was a pig's ear and I don't relish ever having to do it again.

Apps can change and I love having the best that money could buy. I'd probably
buy the brush again just because it's such a good brush in all respects apart
from the Bluetooth, and hopefully Oral B will sort out their accessibility down
the line. But I would probably recommend a simpler brush from Oral B in most
cases.

I have a bluetooth toothbrush from Oral B. I don't really use the bluetooth
option, but if I remember correctly, you can use it to change the settings of
your toothbrush as well as get a report on how you're brushing, such as if you
need to give some teeth or area of your moth some extra attention.

marie,

there are issues that tech could drive nerves out of us.

i suggest for you to go to apple store near your home and ask technician
to help you with face id. if it is getting too hard, the best thing ti
do is to use passcode to enter four or six numbers. i wouldn't waste
time struggling and frustrate myself out of it.

some people talked about face ids as they say about with/without false
teeth, wigs, make-up, scratches/cuts, and others. sheesh! they come out
with wild ideas why face ids are putting issues. some said they believe
face ids are based of face mood.

RE: Flicktype and the system keyboard

2018-11-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If Flicktype is listed in your keyboard list then you are good although I can
guaranty that there is an Add New Keyboard button *smile*.
Anyways, if you are in an edit field and the keyboard is on the screen check
near the bottom left, at the very bottom left is the "More Numbers" button and
just to the right of that will be the button to switch keyboards, then to the
right of that and before the spacebar is the dictate button.
If you have more than 2 keyboards installed, e.g. English, Flicktype and
Emoji,it's probably easiest if you double tap and hold on the keyboard button
and then slide your finger up the screen until you find Flicktype.
If you only have English and Flicktype you can simply double tap the keyboard
button and it should toggle back and forth.

Black Friday deals, was: Amazon Echo Dot

2018-11-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is a good deal, I guess now that the third generation Echo Dot is out they
really want to get rid of their remaining second generation inventory.
I just ordered a 4 Pack of Meross Smart Plugs for $64 which works out to
$16/each and that is in Canadian Dollars so only about $12 US each.
I recently had ordered two 2 packs of the Meross Smart Wall Switches which need
to be installed by an electrician to replace a standard wall light switch. I
had never heard about Meross, but they have a lot of smart products and it
feels well-made and the app is completely accessible, connecting the smart
switches to my WiFi was actually the easiest and most user friendly process I
have seen in a while for such items.
The only drawback with the Meross products is that they are only Alexa and
Google Home compatible, they don't support Homekit/SIRI, but I do have Alexas
as well so it's not that big of a deal.

Another good deal I saw on Amazon Canada was for a Honeywell Lyric T5 Smart
WiFi Thermostat + a third generation Amazon Echo Dot for $119 Canadian, if they
offer that deal on Amazon.com it would probably be $89.99 US and for a very
nice connected smart thermostat + a new Dot that really is a good deal as well.
We have the Lyric T5 at home, it is by the way compatible with Alexa as well as
Homekit, and I was tempted to order 2 of them for my store where I still use
the old Radio Thermostat connected thermostats I got probably 5 or 6 years ago.
They unfortunately are not compatible with any of the voice assistants, but the
app is accessible and for the business they are on a schedule and I don't do as
much with them manually.

I am a bit disappointed that there isn't a good deal on the new Instant Pot
Smart WiFi. It seems to be still $149 on the US Amazon site and on Amazon
Canada it is $197 and change today where before it was $199.99, a fantastic $2
savings! Also surprised that Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart don't
even list it at least not here in Canada where I have so far only seen it on
Amazon.

Our big purchase this year is a Vitamix Ascent A2300 blender which is $549.99
instead of $599.99 Canadian, not a super deal, but I had $800 in Best Buy
Canada gift cards and while I was only allowed to use 2 of them during the
online checkout, that still covers $400 which is a good portion of the purchase.

My wife and I are also tempted to upgrade our iPhones to the iPhone 8 because
Koodo Mobile, the provider we are with, does offer a pretty sweet deal. I have
been saying that I am going to keep my 6S Plus for at least another year, but I
saw that on eBay Canada the 6S Plus 64 Gig goes for over $400 so even if I only
got $350 that would cover most of the upgrade. The deal is that for a 64 Gb
iPhone 8 I would pay $150 upfront and then for 2 years Koodo would add an extra
$15 to my monthly bill. That is another $360 and together with the $150 up
front that means I can get an iPhone 8 64 Gb which Apple sells for $819 here in
Canada for $510, if I get $350 for my 6S Plus it would cost me $160 to get an
iPhone 8 and after 2 years my Koodo plan with 6 Gb of data and unlimited
nationwide calling and texting goes back to the $49 I pay now. I would of
course go from a Plus size phone back to a regular size, but I probably would
have done so in a future upgrade anyways.

For anyone interested, if you are an Amazon Prime member, the 2nd gen Dot plus
one smart plug are on sale for $24.95 on their web site. I could not find the
“add to cart” button on the regular site but easy on the
www.amazon.com/access

Happy thanksgiving to all and happy shopping.

I’ve downloaded and payed the subscription for Flicktype.

However, I can’t seem to get the system keyboard for my apps.

I have turned on full access in boht the Flicktype settings in settings.

For example. If I’m in messages I still see the normal keyboard. How do I
change this to the Flicktype keyboard?

Thank you.
