You can search in the App Store for the exact title:
Amazon Alexa
and you will see it is developed by

RE: Accessible bluetooth microwave

2019-01-03 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
The bad thing about that connected microwave and it's not an insignificant one
is that it's something like only 750 wats. For heating up things, passable, but
not much beyond that. If you want a well performing microwave that you can also
cook in or at least reheat evenly, you need at least 1000 wats.
Wattage
Microwave wattage equals power. In general, the higher the wattage, the faster
and more evenly your food will cook. Most microwaves sit somewhere between
600-1,200 watts. Larger, more expensive microwaves tend to have a higher
wattage, so this is a price and size consideration that can strongly influence
microwave cooking performance.
https://www.cnet.com/topics/microwaves/buying-guide/
I recently bought a Panasonic model with 1250 wats which is really strong. I
was blowing things up until I got the feel for it. It's not connected in any
way, but has tactile buttons which is a huge help and was what I was looking
for instead of a smooth panel. It's 2.2 cubic feet. It's a beast and takes up a
lot of counterspace, but I have a big kitchen so that was no big deal.
Anyway, other than that Alexa microwave that recently came out, I'm not really
aware of any sort of other connected microwaves. I do have a Bluetooth kitchen
scale that I use all the time and I believe that the same company also has
other connected devices, but no microwave. https://getdrop.com/appliances/
Looks like wifi connected ovens and multipurpose devices, but no microwave. I'm
not in need of replacing my oven, but if I were looking for one, I might even
be interested in looking into it since the iOS app is pretty accessible for the
scale anyway.
Good luck.

Ann,

Can you please post the specifics of your microwave model and does it have good

but at $59.95 and 700W, I suspect it its power to be limited.

RE: Apple Watch Series 4, WI-FI vs Cellular

2019-01-03 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kay,

All of the series 4 watches have WiFi. The second model of the series also
includes a cellular feature. It's the same with iPads.

The cellular models cost a bit more.

As I wrote in a previous post, one can get the cellular model but choose not to
enable the cellular feature.

Hi Chris,

I have a series 3 cellular watch, and my battery life seems to be comparable
to those with Wi-Fi only watches. I think this is because the watch only
uses LTE when a Wi-Fi or phone connection isn't available.

Best,

need the direct link to for a new password on my apple id

2019-01-03 Thread Arlene
I'm in the process of confirming that my straight talk se is unlocked, and for
one thing I need to change my password on the apple id that I set that phone up
with. I went on the apple site, but I can't find a link to do this, and I know
it's been given here before, So if someone could sent the link to go into my
apple id to change my password, that would behelpful. Also if anyone has had
experience with unlocking a straight talk phone. On december 19th, I called to
request the unlocking, and the customer service person said that she would be
sending an email with instructions as we understood. I never received an email,
so we're on the phone with straight talk and I'm still waiting to get to the
unlock department. Instead I was talking with the regular customer service. I'm
trying to confirm fron the phone itself that it's unlocked and the regular
customer service said it was, but I was just trying to confirm that. I finally
got to the unlock department and the guy was saying something about putting the
straight talk sim card from my phone into my phone to varify that it was
unlocked but some how that wasn't making any sense so if anyone has had
experience with unlocking a straighttalk phone that would really help right
now. Thank you.

Using the Amazon App, and a coupon code

2019-01-03 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello once more everyone,

This is my last message for now. I appreciate the help.

I was wondering, does anyone know how I would go about using the Amazon App,
and somehow entering a coupon code?
I got a deal on some phone chargers. But I have to go to Amazon and enter this
code, in order to get the deal. I don’t know how to do this. Or even if it’s
possible.
Might I just have to break down and do this on the web?

Thank you,

Terri

Alexa iphone App

2019-01-03 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello again everyone,

I was wondering, how would I go about finding the Amazon Alexa App, for the
iPhone?
I tried to search for it. But I don’t feel I am getting the results I need.
Just a bit confused here.

What sorts of things can this App do?
I have a fire tablet, and a fire TV. Not an actual TV, but the box, that is
bigger than the fire stick.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Terri

RE: Using Your iPhone Without a Touchscreen

2019-01-03 Thread Margret Booth
Hi Carolyn

Yes I do check information on my iPhone while I am talking to someone. I always
have my headset in and go to the information that I am after e.g. my diary or
something that someone sent me by using the usual gestures. You can hear VO
talking in your ear as well as the person you are talking to and I usually
explain to the person who I am talking to what I am doing and could they stop
talking until I find what I am after.

I'm with you, Seigard. Once you get the hang of the touch screen and realize
that it is a touch screen, not a bang screen, it does pretty much what it says
it will do. For me, most of it has been just learning what I really needed to
do. For instance, I get annoyed by notifications, tried to cut them back. I was
using the phone today, and it started about a voice mail that I was well aware
of, and I heard it say something about tap or double tap, can't remember, but I
did, and it shut the thing up, so that I could be in control and tend to the
voice mail on my terms when I wanted to.

The other day, my daughter-in-law wanted me to hear a message that she
forwarded me. I said I did not know how to do that while in conversation with
someone, so she asked me to hang up, check it, then call her with my opinion,
which I did. I am sure there is a way to do that. Do any of you ever do that,
while talking check other things on the phone, and how, please?

Best regards,

Carolyn

the most part I am amazed at how much trouble people go to and how much money
they spend to take away the strength of the iPhone or, for that matter, other
advanced smartphones. I understand that there might be a few cases where a

RE: Using Your iPhone Without a Touchscreen

2019-01-03 Thread Alan Lemly
I'll throw in my two cents worth as well to agree with Sieghard and Richard. I
understand if physical limitations makes an iPhone unusable but I'm skeptical
that a device that substitutes a button interface for a touch screen one would
be very helpful never mind the $299 USD price tag.

I agree Sieghard,

This won’t help you if you are a quadriplegic, etc. It is a modified Bluetooth
keyboard with 20 buttons and you have to learn their system of button
combinations to accomplish what you want. It does offer a micro and speaker so
the sound is coming out of the little keyboardish device.

But, if you have some finger dexterity but not enough to use a standard
Bluetooth keyboard, I guess there might be some uses for this. It must be
targeting a small market given that the price is rather high.

Just my two cents worth, and it didn’t cost you anything, grin.

Richard

Hey Tracey and All,

I use the Pedometer++ application on both my iPhone and Apple Watch. I track
steps and both the time of work out. The iPhone application will sync it’s
readings with it’s counterpart on the Apple Watch. It works beautifully.

 Hello Tracy,

Well, the simple answer to your question is, "Yes."

You can definitely keep track of the number of steps you take on a
 treadmill.

In fact, I do this exact same thing.

Many people on the list have their favorite third-party apps for this
purpose but you can use the built-in pedometer that is located inside of
 the native Workout app.

As for notifications? The watch can definitely give you feedback on when
your stated goals have been met for the day; exactly how this is
configured, I have not yet explored as I prefer to use a third-party app
called Fit Port as my primary pedometer.

Hi all, I'm trying to figure out different ways to keep track of what I do
on the treadmill. It's occurred to me, how about keeping track of the
number of steps I walk on it. Would this work? Via my watch? Could I get a
notification when I walk a certain amount of steps?

 Thanks,

RE: Using Your iPhone Without a Touchscreen

2019-01-03 Thread Carolyn Arnold
I had a tablet once that had a keyboard and also tried a Samsung Folder 2
phone, but we couldn't keep TalkBack on, and Voice Assist wasn't on it, so we
downloaded TalkBack. Anyway, while I thought buttons were the answer for me,
now that I have had my SE for nearly a year, looking back, I think they were
clumsy. That's just me. Good thing we have options.

Best regards,

Carolyn

I agree Sieghard,

This won’t help you if you are a quadriplegic, etc. It is a modified Bluetooth
keyboard with 20 buttons and you have to learn their system of button
combinations to accomplish what you want. It does offer a micro and speaker so
the sound is coming out of the little keyboardish device.

But, if you have some finger dexterity but not enough to use a standard
Bluetooth keyboard, I guess there might be some uses for this. It must be
targeting a small market given that the price is rather high.

Just my two cents worth, and it didn’t cost you anything, grin.

Richard

the most part I am amazed at how much trouble people go to and how much money
they spend to take away the strength of the iPhone or, for that matter, other
advanced smartphones. I understand that there might be a few cases where a
person for whatever reason can't touch the phone, e.g. if they are
quadriplegic, have no hands etc. Apple and now Google have put a lot of very
smart people to work to come up with this incredible way to make touchscreen

to avoid touching that screen as much as possible. Maybe I miss something here,

RE: Using Your iPhone Without a Touchscreen

2019-01-03 Thread Carolyn Arnold

Carolyn

Re: Unable to buy anything on Amazon using iPhone

2019-01-03 Thread Nicola Sanders

Hi all,

This is a very annoying problem. I recently made a purchase using the app and I
was only able to select the address by locating the "send to this address"
button on the screen, turning VoiceOver off, touching the screen once at the
exact location and immediately turning VoiceOver back on. Obghiously you have
to be very careful when doing this, as in my case the relevant button was very
close to the "delete this address" button, but I was lucky and it worked first
time. Of course, I realize that this workaround is not an acceptable solution
and I'll contact Amazon about it as well. I only mention it in case, like me,
you're really stuck and need to get the job done without waiting for access to
a PC.
Best
Nicky

Hi Chris,

I have a series 3 cellular watch, and my battery life seems to be comparable
to those with Wi-Fi only watches. I think this is because the watch only
uses LTE when a Wi-Fi or phone connection isn't available.

Best,
Anna

I just discovered that too.
You can do it through the web, but not through their app.
I'd suggest calling Amazon customer service for people with disabilities at:
888-283-1678
And tell them about this and perhaps they can assist with the order.
I just had to finish an order with my computer through their web site.

Thank you. It sounds like I need to try out the indoor walk workout app. Would
I begin it just before I step onto the treadmill?

It’s unfortunate I need my phone as well. Once I label up my treadmill, I can

Re: Apple Watch Series 4, WI-FI vs Cellular

2019-01-03 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Chris,

I have a series 3 cellular watch, and my battery life seems to be comparable to
those with Wi-Fi only watches. I think this is because the watch only uses LTE
when a Wi-Fi or phone connection isn't available.

Best,
Anna

Apple Watch Series 4, WI-FI vs Cellular

2019-01-03 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello all,

I am looking to get an Apple Watch Series 4, my dilemma is whether to get the
WI-FI or Cellular model.
My main question is how is the battery life with the cellular model? I am
thinking that the battery life with the cellular model might be less, but I do
not know how true this might be.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Chris

RE: Using Your iPhone Without a Touchscreen

2019-01-03 Thread Richard Turner
I didn’t listen that far in the podcast, but I suspect that might be so, or it
uses some variation on braille, but frankly, I think it is a bit silly, unless
it does meet a specific need of someone with a particular disability, but to
plug it as a way to use the iPhone without the touch screen is very misleading.
I can already do that with a Bluetooth keyboard or a braille device like the
Orbit Reader 20.

And how would you say write a text message or email with 20 buttons? Please
don't tell me it uses the old T9 method where you have to press the number 2

I agree Sieghard,
This won’t help you if you are a quadriplegic, etc. It is a modified Bluetooth
keyboard with 20 buttons and you have to learn their system of button
combinations to accomplish what you want. It does offer a micro and speaker so
the sound is coming out of the little keyboardish device.
But, if you have some finger dexterity but not enough to use a standard
Bluetooth keyboard, I guess there might be some uses for this. It must be
targeting a small market given that the price is rather high.

Just my two cents worth, and it didn’t cost you anything, grin.

advanced smartphones. I understand that there might be a few cases where a

Re: How do I make the watch *not speak the time?

2019-01-03 Thread Wayne Merritt
I have a series 2 watch and keep the volume set to 30 or 40%, since
the speaker is smaller than other newer watch speakers. I typically
use the haptic feedback to find out what time it is, and use the
watch's health tracking abilities. Mark is right though that it
sometimes takes multiple taps to wake the screen and get the vibrated
time feedback. As long as we're talking about the watch, I have a free
app called Sleep Watch. If I wear my watch overnight it automatically
tracks my sleep habits and patterns. I then get a notification on the
phone the next day asking how well I slept. The Sleep Watch app has
some unlabled buttons, but I can usually open it, answer the question,
and then move on with the day.

Hi,

I would try the Indoor Walk workout. You can set workouts to be open goal, tell
you when you've been working out for a particular period of time, or tell you
when you've burned a particular amount of calories. Maybe having your phone in
your pocket would help get an accurate step count.

Best,

Re: Spectrum TV App

2019-01-03 Thread Jim Fettgather
I do have a DVR box, and you can get on demand from that box, but it also works
delightfully well right from with in the app.
Thousands of programs, and they are very very easy to find and to play
immediately, either on your phone, or through the DVR box.

Thanks for the response … Do you still have the traditional DVR box? Just
wondering as if you are doing “on demand”, there isn’t normally a SAP channel
for that .. which is another topic all together …

Hello, you are indeed correct that while watching live TV, you can switch to
the secondary audio channel.

I have not found a way to do this while watching a program from the DVR, nor
have I found any fast forward controls.

I’m using the latest Spectrum app on an iPhone with IOS 12.

There is a bit of a problem with the guide.

You can easily scroll through the guide for any given channel, then tap on
network schedule for that channel.

The programs are listed, but Voiceover does not announce the times of the day
that programs are airing. It just simply says Time,, the name of the program,
but then if you elect to record the program, the times are then announced
correctly.

I like the app pretty well, but there some definite improvements that could be
made.

Thanks.

Subject: Spectrum TV App

Hello,

Looking at moving to Spectrum from Direct TV. Had a couple of questions
relating to the IPhone and IPad apps for Spectrum …

I know you can watch live TV with the app, and understand that you can also
switch the secondary audio…is this correct? Also, as far as watching recorded
stuff from your DVR, are you able to switch the audio there .. and are you able
to rewind and fast forward?

Thanks for any assistance …

Re: Notifications on number of steps

2019-01-03 Thread Lois Butterfield
If you hold onto the hand rail with the hand where your watch is, no steps will
register. That is the only problem. A pedometer that you wear on your waist
will work better on a treadmill.

Take care,
Lois
