RE: How do I capture a picture of my screen with Voiceover running?

2019-05-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Many thanks, Richard. I do have a home button on my iPhone 8 so I'll press that
and the power button to capture the screen to my photos. Sorry I forgot to
mention my iPhone model with my original post.

If you have a home button, make sure first that screen curtain is not on, then
press the home and power buttons together. You should hear the shutter sound
and you will now have a screen shot in your photos.

If no home button, I believe it is the side/power button and the up volume
button together.

Not sure about that though.

RE: Bookmarks In Voice Dream Reader?

2019-05-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Fazil,

As Richard said, I really don't do a lot with bookmarks and in addition, I only
have one iDevice, an iPhone 8, so I know nothing about syncing among devices. I
will say the couple of times I've replaced my iPhone and restored my encrypted
iTunes backup to my new iPhone, everything I had in Voice Dream Reader came to
the new device. I know that's not exactly what you're asking but I thought I'd
share it.

There is a voicedreamprodu...@groups.io list to which Winston Chen belongs so
you might subscribe to it and post your syncing question there. You can
subscribe by sending a blank email to the following address:

voicedreamproducts+subscr...@groups.io

Good luck.

For me, Alan, in my MP3 file, I found bookmark at the location you described in

May be, for mp3 it is on upper right-hand corner & for PDF it is left to the

Re: Bookmarks In Voice Dream Reader?

2019-05-05 Thread Alan Lemly

Richard,

Are you sure of the location of the bookmark buttons when you're playing an mp3
file from your Voice Dream library? I opened an mp3 movie before posting my
response and the bookmark buttons were near the top of the screen. When I just
now opened a pdf file in Voice Dream, the bookmark button group was near the
play button at the bottom as you described.

Actually, the headings, bookmarks, and highlights button is near the bottom of

Once you have bookmarks set, you may also be able to change the navigation unit

That could be the case, I don't know, I just know they are not Siri voices
currently.
I couldn't find a source saying that Aaron or Nicky were Siri voices, but it
doesn't much matter at this point.

I did find a rather interesting article in Wikipedia about Siri though, so I'm

Hi,
Just chiming in re the Siri voices: I believe that Aaron, and his female
counterpart Nicky, were the official US Siri voices prior to the latest
versions, which came out in either iOS 12 or 11, I can't remember which. Nicky
and Aaron, plus their equivalents in other languages, are available for use in
Voice Dream Reader, and I think this was also the case before they were demoted
from official Siri voice status. It's just the latest Siri voices which Apple
has not made available to third-party developers. So I think Mary and Richard
are both right: Aaron is now just another voice, but he used to be a Siri voice
and was available in VDR at the time.
Sorry for the long message and please feel free to correct any unintentional
misinformation.
All the best,
Nicky, but not the former Siri voice, I'm afraid I sound far too British, LOL!

RE: Bookmarks In Voice Dream Reader?

2019-05-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Fazil,

Voice Dream Reader does have the ability to bookmark mp3 files being played on
it. With your file open and playing, place focus on the add bookmark button
which is in the upper right corner of the screen and double tap. A bookmark
will be added at the current location. With the file still open, swipe right
among the controls at the top of the screen until you hear bookmarks and double
tap to get a list of those you've set. Navigate to the one you want and double
tap to go to it.

Thanks!

Re: Spelling and vocabulary teaching app?

2019-05-05 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

I haven't used these for a couple of years, but they might be worth checking
out.

www.freerice.com
has questions on a wide variety of subjects, including vocabulary words. It
adjusts the difficulty based on how well you answer the questions. And every
time you answer a question, the banner ads draw in enough revenue to buy 10
grains of rice, so you help hungry people get food as you develop your skills.

www.vocabulary.com
has lots of word-related activities as well.

I hope these are helpful.

Best,
Anna

RE: identifying gift cards

Hi Donald. I'm glad voice dream scanner worked out for you. I have a large
collection of vinyl records and am in the process of ripping them to the
computer. Of course, I need to know the side numbers of the disks I'm ripping
and voice dream does a wonderful job of reading the disk centers.

A further note: I re-scanned the front of the card and it picked up the card

On the back of the card it read the website and phone number to get card
balance and the security code.

I am impressed!

Hi,

Adding to Mark's question, if you have the new AirPods and you switch from an

to connect, or will it connect automatically?

Hi,
Just chiming in re the Siri voices: I believe that Aaron, and his female
counterpart Nicky, were the official US Siri voices prior to the latest
versions, which came out in either iOS 12 or 11, I can't remember which. Nicky
and Aaron, plus their equivalents in other languages, are available for use in
Voice Dream Reader, and I think this was also the case before they were demoted
from official Siri voice status.

Re: Voices on voice dream

2019-05-05 Thread TaraPrakash
Thank you all. I should have specified I am trying to use the current female
Siri voice. Aron is good but is terrible with words having letter O in them.
Especially, it destroys the word “books” very badly. In the word like “mostly”
the “o” sound is doubled. I know you can manage pronunciation but when. A
specific letter sound is coded in a certain way, not sure wha to do. Go back to
samantha I guess.

In my case, I use itunes file sharing. That way I don’t have to upload the
file to the cloud and download it from the cloud to my device.

Hi Joshua,

I'm happy to say that it is possible to get BARD books you've already
downloaded to your computer into BARD Mobile on your iPhone without downloading
them again. I will say that downloading them again might be easier in some
cases but that isn't what you asked. You will have to copy them to a cloud
service folder which works with BARD Mobile such as Dropbox or iCloud before
you can transfer them. I place all of my downloaded BARD books into a BARD
subfolder which branches off of my Dropbox folder on my computer. The good news
is you don't have to unzip the downloaded books before doing the transfer. Here
are the steps.

1. Open the Files app which is built into iOS.

2. Execute the Browse button on the bottomline menu of the Files app.

3. Navigate to the Dropbox or iCloud folder where you have the BARD books
you'd like to transfer.

4. Swipe until the title you want to transfer has focus. Remember, the
BARD books don't have to be unzipped so the book your want to transfer should
end with a .zip extension.

5. Single finger swipe down through the various menu choices until you
hear Share and then double tap.

6. A share sheet will open and you can single finger swipe right until you
hear Copy to BARD Mobile at which point you should double tap.

7. A progress announcement will be spoken by Voiceover until the book has
been copied to BARD Mobile.

8. When you open BARD Mobile on your iPhone and execute the Bookshelf
button, the book you just copied should be in the list of available books on
your iPhone.

Write back if you have other questions.

books from bard mobile and redownload your bard book for playback on the app.
Thanks for any help. I have loads of other devices to listen to my bard books,
I'm just looking forward to playing with the bard mobile app.

Susie, I don’t think you quite understand.

Anybody on the planet can download the BardMobile app, but only if you are
a

registered user can you log in and download bard books.

NLS has the authority, and the ability, to authorize other players as they
have done for the hardware devices like the Victor Streams and Plextalks.
Again, anyone on the planet can buy those devices but unless they have a
registered account with NLS, they cannot access NLS books.

Yes, it is a copyright issue, but the authorization to play copywritten
material is controlled by NLS and it is extra secure because you also have
to have a registered account which means a doctor or rehabilitation agency
have certified that you have a print disability.

I don’t even know if Winston would want to go down that path of becoming
an

authorized player. The BardMobile app is perfect for my uses.

This all began because someone asked how to play BARD books with Voice
Dream

Reader and has received the answer but it has spiraled into this
discussion.

I think we can wrap this one up.

I’m sure it’s a copyright issue. In order to download the BARD app, you
have

to be a registered patron of thee NLS library system, which means you
qualify for books in a specialized format. Otherwise, potentially, anybody
with an iPhone and Voice Dream Reader could get all these free audiobooks.

That is correct. Voice Dream Reader cannot read protected content. Maybe
one day. Perhaps we should all write to NLS requesting they make Voice
Dream Reader an authorized player, though the BARDMobile app is great and
free.

do I need to unzip it first and load the folder or do I just load the zip

Thanks.

You can also dictate a new appointment through Siri, as if you were using the
Apple Calendar App, and the appointment will be entered into Fantastical. I do

Uh umm...A good ole hard copy dictionary will do exactly what you want. & while
searching for a word or two, the kids will learn a few things that have been
tossed away with the invention of laptops & smartphones...What you ask? Well,
how words are alphabetically listed. The part of speech a word derives from.
The orgin of words & example sentences on how the word(s) is used in a
sentence. & hopefully, the use of a dictionary will spark their interest &
curiosity & they will look up other words to use. & who knows...your kids may
think that you are a fuddy duddy for suggesting that a dictionary be used in
place of a electronic device.

Re: Voices on voice dream

2019-05-05 Thread Nicola Sanders
Hi,
Just chiming in re the Siri voices: I believe that Aaron, and his female
counterpart Nicky, were the official US Siri voices prior to the latest
versions, which came out in either iOS 12 or 11, I can't remember which. Nicky
and Aaron, plus their equivalents in other languages, are available for use in
Voice Dream Reader, and I think this was also the case before they were demoted
from official Siri voice status.

If I’m not mistaken Aaron is a Siri voice. You can use all of the voices
that voiceover has. You can also purchase other voices through voice
dream. My personal favorites are James and Kendra. The latter is from
Ivona, and the former is from Riehl speak I think. You can do all that
under I think it’s called manage my voices. You can choose from iOS
voices including the Siri ones, or you can buy voices from places like a
 cappella or Ivona etc.
