RE: iCloud and favorites

2019-07-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Mary,

You ask a good question.

I'm not certain; it would depend upon the specific settings of Safari.

However, my guess is that Safari would open the HTML file as though it were a
web page. This would have the advantage of allowing a person to select which
link to add to Safari and, for that matter, where in the browser one wishes to
place the bookmark.

Hi Mark,
I am curious. Do you think that doing that would merge the files? So let’s say
you have Safari bookmarks already. And you want to add some that you bookmark
in Firefox or chrome or whatever. And you do the steps that you recommended.
Will the result be one merged bookmark file? I know on my PC, my Safari
bookmarks are in there. I just had to tell Firefox to add them or include them
or I forget exactly what the word was. But it’s all part of the all bookmarks,
so it’s very easy to search in.

As far as I know, there is not a direct way to send your PC web browser's

both systems.

However, were I you I would: (These are the broad strokes, only.)

1.
Enable iCloud drive on my PC.

2.

3.
>From my PC, I would copy the exported file to iCloud drive.

4.

5.
I would locate the newly saved exported file and simply open it.

Hope this helps.

Here is a Fabulous Pill Reminder App for iOS that is 100% VoiceOver Accessible

2019-07-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I found this incredibly VoiceOver accessible pill reminder app.

The app works just as described in its description. The developer even
mentions VoiceOver in his description. Those of you with Apple watches are
going to love this app, especially if you have silent reminders enabled.

Now there is one VoiceOver glitch that you will encounter only when you have no
data in the app. I suspect that this is why the developer has not caught it
because once you have any data in the app, whatsoever, the glitch goes away,
completely.

So, when you first launch the app, you will be prompted to allow notifications.
No problem there. Once you reach the default screen, the display tells you
that you have no data in the app, Touching the center of the screen, while
voiceover is enabled, causes the app to crash. This is the same on iPad. On
iPhone, the buttons to use the app are located on the bottom row of the
display. On iPad, these buttons are located down the left side of the display.

Simply activate any of these buttons, for example, select the reminders, tab,
enter even a temporary medicine name, and the empty screen message goes away
and all is perfect.

I know this sounds kind of weird but do not let that small glitch stop you from
downloading the free version of the app. By the way, for the full version, you
must pay $1.99, inside the app.

Please notify the developer about the VoiceOver glitch and I’m certain he will
fix this.

After my signature, you will find the app description. Next, I will paste in
the direct URL to the website for this app so that you can more easily contact
the developer.

Finally, I will paste in the URL to the app, in the App Store.

Okay, good luck and enjoy. If you need any help getting this app up and
running, let me know, on-list, and I’ll do my best to assist you.

Mark

Re: creating a Siri shortcut

2019-07-04 Thread Theresa Ortega
I believe by you going to settings and turning voiceover off you are disabling
it completely. If you just want to turn speech off for a small period of time,
I try three finger double tap. This will turn the speech off same three fingers
double tap to turn on.

Try this, hope it works!

RE: what is the current best practice in preparing an iPhone for transferred to another person?

2019-07-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
All you have to do is to go to Settings > General > Reset and do a complete
reset which deletes all files and settings.
Some say you should first turn off Find my iPhone on that device and sign out
of the app store under Settings > iTunes and App Store, but I don't think you
have to.
Once You do the reset the device will boot up to the same screen you see when
you buy a new phone, "Slide to Set up" or something like that with the greeting
given in many always changing languages.
If the person who gets the phone needs to use Voiceover they can at that point
triple click the home button and Voiceover will start up.

RE: Transfering files to the iPhone

2019-07-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are several brands of memory/USB sticks out there which have a regular
USB port on one and where you can plug them into a computer and a Lightning
port on the other end. But, these are very expensive compared to a regular USB
stick of the same capacity and no, you can't just transfer stuff like music to
an iPhone. These sticks work the same way as Dropbox or OneDrive, they come
with a corresponding app and you can access the content on the drive via this
app just as you can access what is in Dropbox or OneDrive via their apps or the
Files app. I am not sure if some of these sticks support the Files app in which
case you could access content there as well, but you still can't, for example,
copy music from such a drive to your iPhone and then have said music show up in
the iOS music app or transfer tones which are then available in Settings >
Sounds for use as a ringtone or text/alert tone.

Sieghard

RE: lost volume on IPad

2019-07-04 Thread Brian K. Lingatrd
Dear Chris, Vicki & List:

There appear to be the following iPhone settings which Siri can raise, lower
make maximum or minimum:
•Phone
•Media
•Siri
•Voiceover

Saying Siri make media volume maximum will turn it up all the way. Same for any
of the other volume settings.
Hope this helps. Just fixed a nagging internet email problem.

I have very little volume on my mini IPad. SIRI is loud, but the system sounds
and voice over are so low I can barely hear them, in fact, I cannot hear voice
over at all. I think what happened is that the volume got turned down to 10%
and it just got lost. SIRI says Voice over is turned on, but just no volume. I
tried doing a three finger double tap to turn speech on or off, but no volume
there either.

I have tried holding down the home key and raising the volume, but that did
nothing. I also tried to get VO speaking while doing a two finger swipe down to
keep it speaking, but nothing worked there either.

How can I get VO working again and up to normal volume?

Thanks.

Vicki

Arleen and others,
I think things are missing because on every attempt to get newspapers, no
matter which section, the below list is all that shows up, and double tapping
on any of them gets no result. This particular list is from the international
newspapers, and as you will see, it isn't a list of international newspapers,
but the same list as in several other places in the Newsline beta.

International Newspapers
ACB Bralle Forum 07/01/2019
Braille Monitor 07/01/2019
Economist 06/27/2019
Future Reflections 12/01/2019

Well, I hope they plan to get NFB Newsline back to having all of its content.
Right now, they have almost nothing available.
But, the KNFB Reader Basic, seems to be OK.
I assume by Basic, they mean you will not have all the features that are in the
full paid app.
Well, at free, it might be worth the price if they get Newsline fixed.

Arlene, you start out on page 4 where you enter your credentials.
At the bottom of the page, is a spot that says page 4 of 4.
You can either do the single finger flick down at that spot to move back or do
the three finger swipe from left to right to move back eventually to Newsline.
A bit different, but great to see they are making KNFB Reader available this

Not as good as either Voice Dream Scanner or Voice OCR.
