Woth extreme apologies: OT: Netflix questions and one more question

2019-07-09 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

I am extremely sorry for this but since I know no other group I am
writing here.

How do I know if a particular series on Netflix is audio-described?

Is there good family series on Netflix?

Is there any group where such things could be discussed amongst blind
and VI friends?

Thank you.

Ketan

RE: Are there any robot vacuums that are accessible and good for pet hair?

2019-07-09 Thread pdllogan77
I have the Roomba 980 which I picked up about 3 years ago. For the most part
it does a good job…the app for the most part is accessible… My apartment is
about 500 sqft and I run it 3 or 4 times a week. I’m amazed at the stuff it
picks up. I do still run a regular vacuum every 3 or 4 weeks…

There is also an Alexa skill for it, so you can run it both ways. The IPhone
app lets you schedule cleanings .. you can start and stop the robot .. see the
battery level and such. As someone mentioned you do have to empty the bin
pretty much after every use…the bins aren’t that small. They do have a newer
model that will actually dump the bin and it will run several times.

Hi,

I’m wondering if there are any good robot vacuums that are accessible and good
for pet hair.

All advice appreciated.

2019-07-09 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Keith, We bought a Shark iRobot 851 for Christmas and have been quite
pleased with how easy it is to use. There are only three buttons on the
unit, clean, deep clean, and return to the docking station.

The iPhone app isn't much to shout about, but the vac itself works fine
and is easy to use.

Roomba 980.

Wait for Amazon Prime day. You can score good deals. If you don’t have carpet,
get Roomba 960.

I forgot to mention that I have a dog that sheds a lot. The brushes are much
harder to clean than the rollers. It picks up a lot of fine dirt And dog hair
as well both on wood floors and carpet. I love mine. The bin would need to be
emptied out each time you used it depending on how dirty or furry your floors
are.

Actually comparing the document channel in Seeing AI with Voice Dream Scanner
would be better.
I would choose Voice Dream Scanner if I wanted to keep a scan, but now that
Seeing AI can doesn't need to be so high above the document, they are pretty
even on accuracy.
Voice Dream Scanner is still faster since it doesn't need the internet, but the

Re: Seeing AI has an update

2019-07-09 Thread Richard Turner

Sometimes you have to do the three finger swipe down on the updates screen to
get it to say Refreshing page, before the updates show up.

Has anyone tried the short text since the update?
I've never had problems with the short text channel.

Re: Are there any robot vacuums that are accessible and good for pet hair?

2019-07-09 Thread Deidre Muccio
I forgot to mention that I have a dog that sheds a lot. The brushes are much
harder to clean than the rollers. It picks up a lot of fine dirt And dog hair
as well both on wood floors and carpet. I love mine. The bin would need to be
emptied out each time you used it depending on how dirty or furry your floors
are.

Re: Are there any robot vacuums that are accessible and good for pet hair?

2019-07-09 Thread Deidre Muccio
I have a Cosco basic Irobot Roomba something like an 803. It works great. I got
the one with two rollers not the brushes by recommendation from someone who
works at iRobot. It really does work well and it's pretty easy to clean. It's a
pet of sorts. I love it. You have to work with it though. You cant have a lot
of loose little things on the ground or wires. But you will get an error
message if it gets itself in trouble. That means of a shoelace gets caught in
it, or a little plastic bag, or wires. This one that I have is a basic model.
It has no Wi-Fi. No mapping capacity. It just randomly uses sonar that works
acoustically so when it finds dirt stays in that spot till it picks it up. It
has a function of doing a spot clean which does makes the robot move in a
circle within a circle in an area that you particularly want done where perhaps
you've spilled something like cat litter or Christmas tree Pineneedles. Or just
a big pile of dirt in one spot. Check out the YouTube the Irobot videos. They
are hilarious Also you can't use it on anything wet or it will smear that all
over. So if you have an animal that is in continent, perhaps a sick or an old
animal, you won't want to leave the I robot unsupervised. Anything that's wet
or sticky or really gross on the floor will get spread around.

If you have not installed the Seeing AI update, I highly recommend that
you do. The document channel works much better now. Here are the
improvements:
Seeing AI, Yesterday, Introducing a new battery saver mode which will stop
recognizing if nothing is found for a period of time. Recognition will
start again when the phone is moved.
Increased the field of view on the Document channel, so that the phone
does not need to be as far away. This also means that Seeing AI now works

Plus, a number of bug fixes and internal improvements.,

IPad Swift Playgrounds and working with Contacts

2019-07-09 Thread Ryan Mann
Hello. Me and a friend are using Swift Playgrounds on an iPad to learn Swift.
Right now, we are trying to work with the Contacts framework to do things such
as add contacts. When I try to import the Contacts framework using the
statement “import Contacts”, Playgrounds tells me that the module doesn’t
exist. I don’t think I can do anything with contacts without using this
framework. Is this framework only available on Xcode on a Mac? I thought
Swift Playgrounds had access to all Swift frameworks.

Re: Seeing AI has an update

2019-07-09 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Interesting you bring this up as in recent weeks the short text channel has
been very underwhelming for me. It's quite the mystery as nothing has
changed on my end. But VoiceDream Scanner is blowing it out of the water in
terms of accuracy and responsiveness. Again I'm only speaking of the short
text channel which perhaps isn't a fair comparison. It's just been my
experience.

Take good care.

If you have not installed the Seeing AI update, I highly recommend that you
do. The document channel works much better now. Here are the improvements:
Seeing AI, Yesterday, Introducing a new battery saver mode which will stop
recognizing if nothing is found for a period of time. Recognition will start
again when the phone is moved.
Increased the field of view on the Document channel, so that the phone does
not need to be as far away. This also means that Seeing AI now works with
document stands .

Plus, a number of bug fixes and internal improvements.,

Hello Alan,

I am glad that you have confirmed the app crashing issue with Pill Reminder
support.

And, yes, you are quite correct, I have updated to the full version.

Hi Mark,

The Pill Reminder crashing problem I detailed in yesterday's post was confirmed
by Pill Reminder Support when I reported it to them yesterday. They said they
would fix it with the next update.

If you are unable to replicate the problem, perhaps you have updated to the
paid from the free version where I'm experiencing the issue.
