Re: Apple watch VS exercise machines

2019-07-11 Thread Lois Butterfield
Hi, in my opinion, the watch gives much better data. If you put in your health
data, it’s going on that, plus your heart rate, plus the activity that you’re
doing. I think it gives a much better reading. Your rowing machine has no way
of knowing your weight or your other health statistics. It’s just guessing.

Take care,
Lois

Hello all,

Just curious, on my rowing machine, it says I lose more calories then what
my watch says.

Witch is more accurate?

Its not even close, my watch is almost 200 calories less then the machine.

Thought the watch might be more accurate because its actually on my wrist,
but thought maybe someone saw something if they were working out on machines
as well.

Re: Apple Watch face changed, and I can't change it back

2019-07-11 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Cathy,

You can change the complications on the watches face two different ways.

1. Is by waking the Apple Watch display by tapping the screen. When you are on
the watch do what is called a force touch. This will feel like you are trying
to break the screen. It’s a very firm press down on the screen. It will be fine
I promise. You won’t break the display. You can now flick right until you find
the proper watch face. You now will need to flick down until you find the
customize option and then double tap once you hear this. Now you will be
presented with several picker items and the amount will differ depending on
what watch face you’re using. To move between the complication pickers you will
swipe either right or left. VoiceOver will announce which complication you are
on and it’s place on the screen. Once you get to the complication you would
like to adjust you now can flick or swipe up or down on the item and it will
change the active complication. When you have finished adjusting the watch face
features you now will press the Digital Crown on the side of the watch. This
will save the changes.

2. In the Watch app on your iPhone make sure you are one the main watch tab.
That will be the first one on the left at the bottom of the screen. Now
navigate to the watch faces section double tab on the watch face you would like
to adjust the complications on. It will open in a new screen with in the watch
app. Swipe or flick to the right . You will hear the Name of the face announced
by VoiceOver. Now you will see/hear the layoutt of the complications announced
much like they are on the watch in edit mode. The only difference is to adjust
the complication on the iPhone you will have to double tap on the name of the
complication and then swipe or flick to the right to find the picker item with
the same name. You will repeat this step for each complication you will want to
adjust. After you are done adjust ting the watch face features navigate down to
the bottom of the screen until you find the set as watch face button double tap
on this and all of your changes should be on your watch now.

I hope this helps.

RE: Apple Watch face changed, and I can't change it back

2019-07-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Did you check if you accidently did a 2-finger swipe left or right on the
watch? That is the gesture to change watch faces and chances are you may have
more than 1 set up.
If not, you can easily change them on the watch, just do a hard press on the
watch anywhere and your faces come up, select the one you want to customize,
then swipe down with one finger and you have options to Delete, Customize and
Activate (activate is the default). When you get to customize double tap, then
go to the complication you want to change, e.g. top left, swipe up or down and
find what you want in the list then move on to the next complication etc. When
you are done simply press the digital crown, you are taken back to your list of
watch faces, you can now flick to Activate and double tap or simply press the
digital crown once more.

I don't remember the name of the watch face I chose for my Apple watch. When I
set it up, I chose to have weather in the top left corner and sunrise-sunset in
the top right. Somehow, top left is now occupied by Activity, and Breathe is in

Re: need help testing a page for accessibility

2019-07-11 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Donald,

I am running into the same issues you are describing. Even on my computer VO is
not reading the table header as such. It will read the content in the table
header but it will not read the proper roll tag outloud.

Hmm… I am puzzled on this one. I thought it was working the last time I used
any tables… I have to dabble a little more with VO and creating tables. I even
just for kicks added the title=“header” syntax to the opening this simply
messes up the rest of the column.

Now you’ve got me interested in seeing if I can figure out the code. If you
would like you can email me off list with the html stuff
(e...@overhereconsulting.net) instead of keeping this thread off topic for the
list.

Re: need help testing a page for accessibility

2019-07-11 Thread Donald Raikes
Ed,

The first table on the page I hand-coded using basic html. The second
table is an oracleJet table component, so I wouldn't be surprised if
it is acting a little different.

If you want to create a table that I can test with VoiceOver that
would be great.

Thanks

This is where I would start. If I’m not mistaken there should also be a
rotor option for tables. I don’t utilize this feature but it might only
 be
to find tables on the page. I honestly don’t remember.

Apple Watch face changed, and I can't change it back

2019-07-11 Thread Kathy Blackburn
I don't remember the name of the watch face I chose for my Apple watch. When I
set it up, I chose to have weather in the top left corner and sunrise-sunset in
the top right. Somehow, top left is now occupied by Activity, and Breathe is in
the right corner. I have searched all through settings and faces on the watch
and the Watch app on the iPhone. Changes I thought I could make don't take
effect. What am I missing?

Re: need help testing a page for accessibility

2019-07-11 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Donald,

This table is not using basic html correctly. I can create a table for you and
see if VoiceOver is still acting weird with it. Even on my computer it’s acting
a little strange. I think they used very basic html and didn’t use the proper
row or table header tags. This site is done by Oracle, the second table is done
with Java Script and it’s meant to look more accessible as JS was developed by
Oracle.

Re: Here is a Fabulous Pill Reminder App for iOS that is 100% VoiceOver Accessible

2019-07-11 Thread Alan Lemly

Hi Mark and List,

I wanted to update the list on a couple of other shortcomings I've found with
the Pill Reminder app. I will be sure to report these to the developer as I did
the crashing problem I experience when swiping out of the bottomline menu
buttons into the main screen. By the way, I'm still experiencing the crashing
even after purchasing the app upgrade.

The first additional shortcoming in my opinion is how a pill added to the app
is identified. I added a medication that comes in many different strengths.
When I searched the app by the medication's name, it provided me with a list of
the various strengths and I selected the correct one. I wish the app would
include the strength of the medication in its title after it's added but the
app only lists the name of the medication. I realize I should be able to
remember the strength of what I'm taking but it would be convenient and not
require much space to include the milligram strength in the presentation of the
medication.

The other shortcoming is when adding the pill count on hand when setting up a
medication for the first time. When adding the pill count for a typical
prescription, the user is presented with a simple text box where the applicable
number can be input. However, when adding the number you currently have on
hand, you are presented with picker items with separate pickers for hundreds,
tens, and ones going from left to right but VoiceOver makes no identification
of which picker is which. Also, a double zero is spoken after the ones picker
that doesn't change and seems to be more appropriate when entering cents in a
monetary field and not appropriate when entering a quantity.

I just wanted to make these issues known to the list and I'll report them to
the developer when I get back to my computer.

RE: cleaner?.

2019-07-11 Thread Brian K. Lingard
Dear Billy & List:
This question might be more appropriate for BlindTech list.

There are three kinds of machines:

•Hot water extraction
•Steam
And the newest
•Vapor.

Vapor leaves the carpet almost bone dry, you do not require many 3 or 4 ft.
square fans to blow air throughout the area to dry the carpet.

Hot water extraction is best for oily dirt, road tar, grease and grime.
Steam is probably best at removing dry dirt and killing any insect eggs in the
carpet.
Not sure what vapor is best at.

Consider buying a commercial-grade carpet cleaner designed for janitors,
caretaker's daily use. They are built like a Sherman Tank, around the price of
a good vacuum cleaner. Building owners are a cheap bunch, so their machines are
priced low.

There are also smaller, commercial-grade machines for getting into tight
corners etc.

The equipment seller can explain what machine you want to use for what dirt.
Also, the correct cleaning chemicals to use and at what concentration.

If you have particularly bad, ground-in, dirt, you pre-spot with a chemical in
an aerosol can to boost the clean you get.

Shout makes a carpet cleaning powder which you sprinkle generously on the
carpet, let sit for the specified time, then vacuum it out, with lots of the
dirt leaving with it.

Cleaning chemicals for commercial use are often approved for use in health
care, retirement homes etc. facilities, with mild fragrance, if any.

Remember to ask the chemical's makers for correct use instructions,
additionally, what I use to remove this sort of dirt that is ground in.

Commercial-grade machines will clean even the filthiest carpets usually in one
pass.

My parents bought a Bissel shampooer that hooked up to a faucet, said if you
ran it over same spot a dozen times it removed most of the dirt.

I said if it was any good, it would remove almost all dirt the first time. They
thought about this and returned it to the department store for a full refund.

Janitors do not know much more about cleaning than you or I. They just have
very effective cleaning chemicals!
