Hi Anna,
I turned my phone on and off several times, but unfortunately this email
message is refusing to buzz off. May be it likes me so much and decided to
stick around. This has happened twice since I upgraded to iOS 13.2.

Re: Apple Watch VS FitBit

2019-11-05 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Richard,

The Apple Watch not only notifies you if you have a high or low heart rate, but
it will also notify you if you have an irregular heart rhythm that looks like
an atrial fibrillation. You are able to set the high and low heart rates to
whatever you want it to be. Also remember that you can also conduct an ECG
with an Apple Watch, and send the ECG results to your doctor. The ECG results
remain in the health app on your phone, so you can access them at any time.

I can not speak for fitBit since I have never used one. I will say if
accessibility is an issue, then I would think that there is not anything more
accessible than the Apple Watch.

Please contact Spotify support to report accessibility change in most recent release

2019-11-05 Thread Shermeen Khan
Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I'm really hoping that
people might feel compelled to contact Spotify to let them know that
as of the most recent update, voiceover users can no longer read
descriptions of any playlists. Remarkably, the chat option on their
website is accessible, although you can also e-mail
supp...@spotify.com or contact them on twitter or another social media
platform if that's easier. And if you haven't yet updated, I'd urge
you not to, as this issue is not specific to me.

Thanks, all.

Hi Richard,

I wrote this book two years ago, so the most recent watch in the book was the
series 3. Newer versions of watch OS have features that aren't covered, but
most of what is in the book is still accurate in watch OS 6. Someone could
still use it to get started and do a lot with their watch.

Re: Apple Watch VS FitBit

2019-11-05 Thread Feliciano Godoy
Hi,
The Apple Watch series 3 or newer have heart features that can help her monitor
health. detection of low or high heart rate features is one of them. In
addition, there are apps like auto sleep,HeartWatch or SleepWatch that are
great. I personally use the Apple Watch to monitor sleep and health information
as it relates to fitness.

RE: Booking Flight Via Airmiles App?

2019-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, you can’t book flights with the app, in fact, the Air Miles app is somewhat
useless since all it is really good for is to see any sort of Air Mile offers
and such. You have to use the Air Miles website for everything else and while
it’s doable with Jaws it can be a bit of a challenge especially selecting
departure and return dates. You more or less have to press enter on the field
and hope the calendar comes up and then use the Jaws cursor to find your date
and sometimes it works and other times it does not.

Paring a third party keyboard.

2019-11-05 Thread Julie Dawson
In the past when I sought to pare a third party keyboard in this case an Anker
keyboard it asked for a code which was sent in a message. I went to message,
retrieved the code went back and typed it on the keyboard I was paring, hit the
enter key and it pared seamlessly. Since I updated to IOS12 since it is an
older device for a friend, it sais sending the code and the paring is
unsuccessful and I cannot find where the code might be. If anyone has any
ideas, any guidance would be most definitely appreciated.

A Study regarding assistance for blind users - an university study

2019-11-05 Thread Gonçalo Ferreira
Hello,

My name is Gonçalo and i'm developing a thesis in the field of smartphones
accessibility. I'm developing an application which is meant to be a
"bridge" between a sighted user and a blind user, to help doing some tasks
in the smartphone.

One of the phases is the characterization of the current state of remote
assistance. If you could help me by filling a questionnaire, it would be
very helpful. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

The link to the questionnaire is https://forms.gle/Qx4fvLveYEyjLcyi7

When results are analyzed, I'll share with you the conclusions of the work,
which will likely be useful.

Thank you for your time.

You and your Apple Watch, a guide for blind users, Anna Dresner

2019-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
Anna if you are reading this, or anyone who has read this book, which Watch or
watches are discussed in the book?
I assume a new book may be coming out on Series 5, but I have a client needing
info sooner than later.
Thanks

Apple Watch VS FitBit

2019-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
I have a client whose doctor told her she needs an Apple Watch to monitor her
heart rate.
I know the Apple Watch will alert people to very fast heart rates, but will it
also alert people with very low heart rates?
And, can a FitBit do the same thing?
She is not wanting to spend the money for an Apple Watch unless it is clearly
the best choice.
She has an iPhone 8.

2019-11-05 Thread Bob Hill
Hi,

another possibility is !that you have "slide to type" se! to on.
Go to settings, general, keyboard.
Look to see if "slide to type" is set to on.
Turn it off if it is, and see if that makes a difference.

Hello Tom and all. I’ve noticed this as well. I have been disconnected from at

I have no idea.
You would need to look up their specifications.
I'm happy with the 6, so wasn't looking to buy a new one when the 7 came out.

https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapps.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2Fdolby-on-record-audio-video%2Fid1443964192data=02%7C01%7C%7Ca1768a09e7964684688f08d762046d22%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C637085643456195251sdata=kdy5W%2B5qkZRERDloNqTIVEqkkXmJkygx%2BraQR7mVc9o%3Dreserved=0

I personally like the Zoom IQ6 or Zoom IQ7 microphones. They are stereo
microphones but you cannot have a thick case on the phone as the lightning plug
is fairly short. So, Otterbox cases are out, unless you want to remove the
case to record.
I have the Zoom IQ6 and it has a 3.5 inch earphone jack on the side so you can
hear VoiceOver to control whatever recording app you use. Warning, turn the
VoiceOver volume way down to spare your ear drums. The VO volume through that
jack is very loud.
That is the only reason I have the VoiceOver volume on the rotor.

I believe the Zoom IQ7 also has the earphone jack.

The microphones are around $100.

Others probably have microphones to recommend.

HTH,

Richard

Subject: BT mic for iphone/Pad

Hello

Looking for recommendations for a good all round mic.

Our iPhone group, which is not funded, wants to try podcasting. We want to
start out using our i devices at first, but realise we may get much better
results with an external mic.

Probably most of the recording wil be indoors, but we do have some ideas about
recording outside.

Naturally, if we get the hang of it, we may be looking in the future to use
more specialised equipment, but that’s a way off yet.

Oh and if anyone has any other advice, please do let us know.

Best

HI Kelby,

I have a feeling your autocorrect might be on in your keyboard settings. Mine
is doing the same thing, and it sounds like the sound you hear if there are
suggestions for what you've typed. I haven't looked yet, but that's what I
think it is. Will say more if I find out for sure, but until then, check your

Sent from my iPhoneApologies for so many questions in a row today. After the
updape, I notice that while I type in Braille Screen Input, my phone makes odd
noises, rather like bubbles popping. Has anyone else heard this? I went into
Braille Screen Input's septings, but didn't find anything that seemed related.

Re: Can't Reboot iPhone

2019-11-05 Thread Robin
Sounds like a Reach Around to me. All this just
to perform a Restart or Reboot on Apple's iOS.

At 06:27 AM 11/5/2019, you wrote:
When I had my 7, I would hold down home and side
button for about 13 seconds. This worked for me
even though the home button is a solid state
home button. But I thought that the previous
method mentioned would work for the 7 as well.
If not, definitely try holding home and side button for around 13 seconds.

Gordan,

That is the steps for an iPhone 8 and later.

Kelby,
Have you talked with Apple about this?
Do you have Sounds set to change with buttons?

I don't have access to an iPhone 7 to test.

For most purposes, a power off and power on
will accomplish what you need. I'm not exactly
sure what a reboot does that a shut down and restart doesn't.

I've read where that will call emergency
services if held down for a few seconds without
release. the way I've always done a reboot is
to press volume down and release it quickly,
then press volume up and release quickly. then
hold down the side button for about 13 seconds or so.

On 11/5/2019 7:38 AM, Richard Turner wrote:
According to CNet, you are right, but maybe
you are holding them down too long?

This is what I found:
You now need to hold the wake and volume down buttons at the same
time. After a few seconds of holding in the
buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your
iPhone's display, indicating it has restarted.
Then you should be back in business.

Of course, there is no VoiceOver feedback so
try holding for a count of 5 or 6 seconds, i.e. one 1000, 2 1000, etc.

Then waiting for a minute or two for the restart.

the Pros to be much more comfortable and I don’t have any soreness after

Gestures and what is spoken are in pretty good sync.

So far I really like them a lot.

Re: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

2019-11-05 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Joshua,

You in fact do get better then 3 hours of battery. Each ear pod has a battery
that last for 5 hours on a single charge, plus you have the battery case, this
gets you 24 or more hours of use. The Air Pods take simply 15 mins to get to an
80% charge and this gets you more than 3 hours with the quick charge.

I don’t mean to sound harsh hear but if you don’t want them don’t get them and
stop complaining about them.

Richard,

Yes, I do. I don't think turning that off would change anything, though—it
would just make VoiceOver's volume turn down but not the zounds.

I don't have access to an iPhone 7 to test.

For most purposes, a power off and power on will accomplish what you
need. I'm not exactly sure what a reboot does that a shut down and
restart doesn't.

I've read where that will call emergency services if held down for a few
seconds without release. the way I've always done a reboot is to press
volume down and release it quickly, then press volume up and release
quickly. then hold down the side button for about 13 seconds or so.

This is what I found:
You now need to hold the wake and volume down buttons at the same
time. After a few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will
appear on your iPhone's display, indicating it has restarted. Then you
should be back in business.

Of course, there is no VoiceOver feedback so try holding for a count of
5 or 6 seconds, i.e. one 1000, 2 1000, etc.

Then waiting for a minute or two for the restart.

RE: Can't Reboot iPhone

2019-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
Gordan,
Have you done that with an iPhone 7?
That is the steps for an iPhone 8 and later.

Kelby,
Have you talked with Apple about this?
Do you have Sounds set to change with buttons?

I don't have access to an iPhone 7 to test.

For most purposes, a power off and power on will accomplish what you need. I'm
not exactly sure what a reboot does that a shut down and restart doesn't.

Hi all, I’m trying to get Apple TV on my fire TV. I’ve searched for it and
can’t find it. Does anyone know how to do this? I understand it’s available
now. Thanks for any help.

This is what I found:
You now need to hold the wake and volume down buttons at the same time. After a
few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your
iPhone's display,
indicating it has restarted. Then you should be back in business.

Of course, there is no VoiceOver feedback so try holding for a count of 5 or 6
seconds, i.e. one 1000, 2 1000, etc.
Then waiting for a minute or two for the restart.

I know how to reboot the phone. Before, however, holding down the volume button
did not decrease VoiceOver's volume; it had to be pressed repeatedly to do
that. If I reboot the phone, my volume will be all the way down, so I will not
know when it is restarted.

RE: Call block feature in recent calls

2019-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
On the More Info screen in the recent call lists, there has always been a call
blocking feature. And, no, you don't have to keep them in the recent call
list. They are added to a blocked caller list.
So, feel free to delete the recent calls that you have blocked.

In iOS 13, there is a new Silence Unknown Callers feature that allows calls
from people who are not in your contacts to show up in the recent call list,
and even leave a voice mail, but you are not aware that they called until you
check the phone app.

That way, if it is someone you know calling from a different number, they can
leave a message and you can then add their number to your contacts; or if it is
a doctor's office calling from a different line, they can leave a message, etc.
But, if it is a spam call, you can then block that number from the recent calls
list More Info.
One of the new features in iOS 13 I really like.

Some people do not like it because if a family member or friend were in an
emergency and called from a separate number, it would be silenced, so it is
something you can turn on or not under the phone settings.

HTH,

Richard

Hello list
I did not know about this feature. I assume the number is blocked as long as
one keeps it in the recents section, i.e. when one deletes it from there the
blocking is gone?

RE: Can't Reboot iPhone

2019-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
According to CNet, you are right, but maybe you are holding them down too long?
This is what I found:
You now need to hold the wake and volume down buttons at the same time. After a
few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your
iPhone's display,
indicating it has restarted. Then you should be back in business.

Of course, there is no VoiceOver feedback so try holding for a count of 5 or 6
seconds, i.e. one 1000, 2 1000, etc.
Then waiting for a minute or two for the restart.

RE: BT mic for iphone/Pad

2019-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
Have you already decided on an app for the recording?

In the Applevis newsletter this month, they talked about an app called Dolby
On. It gives very high quality recordings just with the built-in microphone.
If you are doing a group discussion, you may want a stereo microphone.
First, since the Dolby On app is free, I'll give you that link:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dolby-on-record-audio-video/id1443964192

HTH,

Richard

Best

Adrienne

Re: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

2019-11-05 Thread lenron brown
Good that the audio is better. I would think it would be for 250 bucks
though. The audio in the Airpods first gens kind of suck though.
Honestly if I pay more than 200 bucks I want an over the ear headset.
I am guessing but I bet these pros don't fall out like the normal
airpods.

At $249 US they certainly won't be on my "I wish I had those" list.

In my opinion, the price is way to expensive. If I'm going to pay
$250 for something, then it had better have better battery life then 3
hours. I've got a pair of ear buds that are wireless and lasts for
about the same time, but I didn't pay anywhere near the price of the

I normally end up doing the wear one at a time thing because of the
battery life. It kind of drives me nuts, I think I will glad a pair of
the over the ear beats that just came out at some point. Then again
the Bose might be a better choice, will do some testing. Anyways if
the batteries in the Airpods Pro are the same they are not all that
useful to me. Maybe in a few years we can get at least 10 hours.

2019-11-05 Thread Aedan Something
You’re welcome, in my experience developers need more than polite requests from
disabled people before they take us seriously. Skip the Dishes has refused to
change their app framework or label their buttons after many attempts. Giving
the app makers a low rating and encouraging other people to do the same because
the developer has broken Apple’s accessibility guidelines and therefore is
refusing to serve the whole public might do a better job of encouraging
positive change.
I hope more developers respect all of us whatever it takes.

something like "daily mix 1: Sela, Andrew Peterson, Audry assad and
more. Daily mix 2: The Monteberity Singers, choir of kings college,

just daily mix 1, daily mix 2, daily mix 3, etc. which doesn't tell me

BT mic for iphone/Pad

2019-11-05 Thread 'ChalmersAS' via VIPhone

Best

Adrienne

You do a quick press, of the volume buttons, and don't hold them for long,
