Re: Problem with Speaker on My iPhone SE

2019-12-04 Thread Richard Turner
A couple of thoughts.
Make sure you aren't covering up the microphone at the bottom of the phone.
And, make sure you don't accidentally put your hand, finger, whatever, over the
proximity sensor which is by the earpiece speaker at the top of the screen.

Re: A Question Regarding the Native iOS 13 Mail App and the "This Message is from a Mailing List", Notice

2019-12-04 Thread Richard Turner
As for what happens, it says it sends an email requesting to unsubscribe you
from that list.
I used it recently, and won't know if it really worked for probably a couple
weeks as I didn't get a ton of emails from that list.
I've never found a setting for that feature, so I don't know if closing it
turned it off, or if it will just take a while, or what.

2019-12-04 Thread Kathy Brandt
I’m getting along with the Mail app well enough, even if focus shifts in a
thread. Just curious though: if I flick up to trash in the rotor and double tap
on it, the message just stays there. Should that be the case? I have just been
double tapping on delete at the bottom and going from there, I just don’t
understand why when I double tap on trash, nothing happens.

No need to make assumptions about why someone would want to block a person. For
example, I was interested in blocking those on a sell and trade list who’s
items I know I never want to buy, and who I see duplicate messages from: in a
few months I’m going away, and don’t want to spend the time dealing with their
messages :-)

To block someone on a help list, sounds a bit silly to me.

I would rather just delete the Email, if i felt that strongly about a person.

Re: About blocking contacts

In mail, preferences, and blocking, there is the option to automatically remove
blocked senders messages to trash. That’s why I was so surprised on my iOS 12
devices to see the block senders still in unread mail.

RE: Siri and contacts

2019-12-04 Thread Cher Bosch
If syncing via iCloud, you should have all your contacts copied into your
iCloud contacts folder. You can then copy them to any other contact
sub-folders you have created. If your contacts are in Outlook, but not synced,
I would not know what to suggest.

Also, What if the person, or persons, which you are blocking. Is someone who
can help, with your question?

To block someone on a help list, sounds a bit silly to me.

I would rather just delete the Email, if i felt that strongly about a person.

Dave.

Re: iPad gesture to dismiss popup in safari

2019-12-04 Thread Richard Turner
The scrub gesture is the easiest.
You can find a button usually that says dismiss popup, which you can single
finger double tap.
The only five finger gesture is for going to the home screen.
It isn't a tap.
You spread out your five fingers and slide them together right under your palm.

usb connection on iPad?

2019-12-04 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
hi,

interested in what can successfully be connected to iDevice, iPad in
particular, via usb lead.

Pen drives/memory sticks would be first choice,
but also wondered if I'd seen reference to taking a usb keyboard. I have a
nearly full size one here, full layout, slightly
smaller footprint.
I found usb socket and presumed it was a rechargeable, but found battery
compartment too; so thought it could power itself and thus
not drain host tablet.

I would prefer this route for swapping accessories between devices as needed.

Thanks. robH.

Yes, there are two text boxes that you can swipe left and right between.

If you double tap on a text box you can then enter the desired information into
it.

How do you get to the delivery-address and return-address fields? Can we get to
these fields simply by swiping right/left?

Thanks!

Hello Mark and Richard,

Thanks to Mark’s instructions I can confirm that it is perfectly possible to
print envelopes from an iPhone with an AirPrint enabled printer.

Using Pages on my iPhone XR I managed to print an envelope without difficulty
on my HP Colour LaserJet Pro M254dw this is much easier than waiting for a
computer to boot to accomplish a simple task.

Thanks Mark!

When I was going through those templates, it stopped on fliers.
I did a three finger swipe up to scroll beyond where the flicking stomped.
Now I found the envelopes, so I suspect now Fasil will be able to find them as
well.

Okay Rich,

I just opened Pages for iOS.

In the create new document area, there is a very, very long list of document
template styles from which to choose.

The document styles are arranged by categories said categories being denoted by

down to the envelope template section from which you may select the envelope

Mark,
I spent a fair amount of time going through the templates for Pages on iOS and
never found one that said anything about envelopes.
I just re-downloaded Pages so I have the latest version on iOS 13.3 beta.
Does the template you are talking about have a specific name?
Thanks,

Hello Fazil,

I did not understand the original question.

The short answer to your question is, "yes," you should be able to print an
envelope directly from Notes. However, as with many things in life. It's a
little more complicated; said complication being the following: You will need
to make certain that the mailing address is tabbed to the right of the return
address by a specific number of spaces.

There are several ways you can resolve this, the first being trial and error.
In effect, you can create a sort of custom template in Notes.

However, I would opt for the second option, which is to use Pages for iOS. In
Pages for iOS, you can find an envelope template in which you may type both
your mailing and return address for your envelope.

You will have to conduct several tests in order to get it just right but, if
you stick with it, you will get there.

Of course, there is also Word for iOS but my experience with Word for iOS has
not been steller, to say the least. This is not to say that you should not
give it a try but I think your best bet lies with Pages for iOS.

Also, do not rule out printing addresses on mailing labels. You may find,
based on a particular circumstance, that mailing label settings are easier to
configure.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: About blocking contacts

2019-12-04 Thread Richard Turner
I blocked someone, and have never seen an email from them since.
But, if someone replies to their message, I see that new person's message and
if they included the blocked person's message it will say blocked contact, so I
read the new message from the non-blocked person and delete the message.
I know this is working for me because I never saw the message the other person
was replying to.
So for me, there is a very good point in doing this.

Re: Smart Scale vs. talking Scale

For a body weight scale I would recommend the Qardio Base. It doesn’t talk, but
it’s quite easy to use with the app on my phone and gives accurate measurements.

If you search for it on amazon, note that Qardio is spelled with a Q and no U.

RE: Siri and contacts

2019-12-04 Thread Richard Turner
I am not really clear on your question.
Siri uses your contacts in the contacts app.
If you have something in the Company field and ask Siri to call that, nothing
will happen as Siri isn't smart enough to use the Company field.
So, if you have businesses in your contacts, put that name in the Last Name
field so it will be alphabetized by that name.

Otherwise, could you give an example of the issue you are having?

Re: iPhone storage problem

2019-12-04 Thread 'Kristeen Hughes' via VIPhone
Actually, I have 2 TB of space on iCloud. What I was hearing was specifically
related to iPhone storage.

You are probably hearing your iCloud storage is almost full.
You get 5MB of free storage with iCloud.
If you take lots of photos, or videos, or receive lots of text messages with
photos, you may be running out of iCloud storage.
Check and see what is listed under settings, your name, iCloud.
See what apps are using iCloud.
I believe there is a place there where you can find out which apps are using
how much space.
I don't worry about that because I opted to pay 99¢ per month for the 50GB of
iCloud storage.
And, I don't use photos much.
If you still cannot sort it out, call Apple Accessibility and they can check
what is happening.

Re: iPhone storage problem

2019-12-04 Thread 'Kristeen Hughes' via VIPhone
I do not. I had very little on it, other than a few books. Everything that was
being used was under the "Other" category and I couldn't see what it was.
As it turned out, I updated my phone to the newest IOS, which I had not done.
The storage problem corrected itself.

Re: App For Printing Envelopes?

2019-12-04 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello Mark and Richard,

Thanks to Mark’s instructions I can confirm that it is perfectly possible to
print envelopes from an iPhone with an AirPrint enabled printer.

Using Pages on my iPhone XR I managed to print an envelope without difficulty
on my HP Colour LaserJet Pro M254dw this is much easier than waiting for a
computer to boot to accomplish a simple task.

Thanks Mark!
