RE: how important is it to have a lightning port and wireless charging, have a question about an iPhone case

2020-02-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Because that is what it said when I ordered mine from Amazon Canada and they
didn't last more than 2 months and one thing you can be certain of is that
Apple will not sell on Amazon.
I have a retail business and sell a brand of optics called Vortex. They make
binoculars, spotting scopes, rifle scopes and so on and you can find their
stuff on Amazon and all the while Vortex has no idea where it comes from since
they say it most certainly does not come from them or any of their dealers who
care because if Vortex found out that dealer would be not a dealer any more.
If you think Amazon itself really cares whether its sellers sell authentic or
knock-off products you'd be surprised. You have to remember that anyone can
sell on Amazon whether it's a responsible seller who cares about what they sell
or a few Chinese or other Asian renegades who produce a copy of something,
maybe even in the same factory where the authentic product is made. If you ever
go to any of the large markets in Vietname, Cambodia or Hong Kong you'd be
surprised how much "authentic" looking North Face clothing, Louis Vuitton,
Chanel or other designer stuff is sold.

In the product description it states that the manufacturer is Apple. So why do

Those are exactly what would have come with your iPhone as long as you in fact
ordered the lightning version and not the 3.5mm version.
But, having said this, I ordered a pair of these as well because they are
cheaper than from Apple, but while they were almost identical I can't swear
that they were and I am thinking they might be a knock-off. The ones I ordered
lasted all of 2 months whereas I usually get at least a year out of the
original Apple ones and I use them all the time, roll them over my hand and
stuff them in my pocket, I have gotten hooked on something with the cord and
all that. Just saying.

Yes, now that I say that, it's kind of funny cause I must hear the Spanish
first in order to pronounce it properly! I can also capture native speakers and
translate that way too when they are around. Mostly I am studying on my own and
reading emails that are now all coming in in Spanish! Hah! It's timely to look
all that stuff up. Even if I get a single word - noun, adverb, or verb

I will look for the Microsoft Translator app pronto.

RE: Weird pronunciation question

2020-02-08 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, that had the attention on this list a while back.

I don't remember the solution exactly, but one thing to try is to go into the
VoiceOver Speech, Pronunciations, enter gun in the original phrase field and
again in the pronunciation field and make sure it is set for all languages.
Or maybe spell the phonetic one with two n's.
Then, hit the play button in the upper right corner.
If it sounds right, then you should be good to go.

voiceover is spelling out the word instead of saying the word. Is this just a

Not sure what you mean, in my message I simply pointed out that some of the
really cheap stuff on Amazon is also very cheap quality and may not work so
great.
If I saw a Lightning headset for $8 and it did not have Apple's MFI

I tried both of them, and they do work except there is a slight hissing sound
when using voice over. Kind of like you'd hear on a cassette tape. I tried
one pair of wired headphones and they sounded really good. I could even stop,

Hi,
I’ve noticed over the last few days there any time I read anything involving
the word gun, whether it’s a story about gun violence, or anything else,
voiceover is spelling out the word instead of saying the word. Is this just a
weird glitch or has anyone else noticed this?

Those are exactly what would have come with your iPhone as long as you in
fact ordered the lightning version and not the 3.5mm version.
But, having said this, I ordered a pair of these as well because they are
cheaper than from Apple, but while they were almost identical I can't swear
that they were and I am thinking they might be a knock-off. The ones I
ordered lasted all of 2 months whereas I usually get at least a year out of
the original Apple ones and I use them all the time, roll them over my hand
and stuff them in my pocket, I have gotten hooked on something with the cord
and all that. Just saying.

I got it from amazon. You can buy them for about $8 a piece.

If I saw a Lightning headset for $8 and it did not have Apple's MFI

 sound and build quality.

I tried both of them, and they do work except there is a slight
hissing sound when using voice over. Kind of like you'd hear on a
 cassette tape.
 I
tried one pair of wired headphones and they sounded really good. I
could even stop, pause, play and change tracks by pushing a button on
 my headphone cord.

Adding A Second Email Address

2020-02-08 Thread J. Cyr
Good day,
I've been attempting to add a secondary email address to my IPhone 8 (still
running 12.41) but something isn't working. I've succeeded in entering all the
correct information and it displays the same way as my primary email address
(and they use the same provider), but I am not receiving anything sent to the
address. (I've tested several times.). They both have the same IMap info
entered and all passwords are correct (I've double-checked with the provider),
any idea what I'm not doing? Or need to undo?

Thank you for any help,
Joy

Hi to all. I used to use with my iPhone 8 a very sturdy case that
had a battery inside so with a press of a button located on the
back of the case I could recharge my iPhone if I needed to. I
wanted to get another iPhone case because my current case even
though it had that battery in the case turned my lightning port
into a micro USB port, and I also couldn't use wireless charging if
I wanted. I bought myself a couple $15 iPhone cases from amazon.
The cases were exactly the same I found out, except one case has a
hard back that can be taken off if I want. I like my new case
except it is so slim and extremely light. The lightness of my new case is
 what troubles me.
I'm afraid if I drop my phone something will happen to it. I am
considering going back to my previous case. What do you all think?
I'm getting from amazon a lot of accessories for my iPhone that use
the lightning connector on my iPhone. I'm getting a couple pairs
of earbuds that are wired and connect directly to the lightning port.
I've also got a few 3 foot lightning USB cables. I also did pick
up a couple of those things that allow me to use a wired pair of
headphones with my iPhone if I want. I just plug one end into my
lightning port and the other end will allow me to plug my
 headphones in.

I have a question about using the Screentime feature on the iPhone. I have
tried to set up Safari to have a "time limit" via screen time so that I don't
waste too much time on the web. The time limit doesn't seem to work, though,
and when I go into Screentime and check by app, almost all of my time is listen
under "other".
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Apple will introduce universal app purchases for iOS and macOS

Apple will introduce universal app purchases for iOS and macOS
Plus, Apple will enable in-app purchases in watchOS apps.

Article from:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/02/apple-will-introduce-universal-app-purchases-for-ios-and-macos/

When Apple introduced Catalyst, its developers' toolkit for porting iOS and
iPadOS apps to macOS, developers and users alike were quick to point out that
they'd like to see universal iOS/macOS app purchases in the App Store. Now,
Apple has told developers it plans to add that feature in March, along with a
few changes to the App Store to accompany it.

according to Apple and devs The company will give third-party app developers
the capability to distribute macOS, iOS, and tvOS apps as a universal purchase
from a single bundle ID starting sometime in March of this year. Unified
purchases can also apply to in-app purchases (IAP).
"You can choose to create a new app for these platforms using a single app
record in App Store Connect or add platforms to your existing app record,"
Apple wrote in a note to developers. All of this requires the Xcode 11.4 beta
at the moment, however.
While Catalyst apps are the most obvious beneficiaries of this change,
developers don't have to have used Catalyst to offer universal purchases for
their apps. New Catalyst-developed apps will support universal purchases
automatically.
Presently, the iOS/iPadOS and macOS App Stores have very different
categorization, but Apple will align them when this feature arrives. Apple
outlined the following changes to the App Store in its note to developers:
• You'll be able to select the following categories for iOS apps: "Developer
Tools" and "Graphics & Design"
• You'll be able to select the following categories for macOS apps: "Books,"
"Food & Drink," "Magazines & Newspapers," "Navigation," and "Shopping"
• The "Photography" and "Video" categories on the Mac App Store will be
combined into "Photo & Video." Mac apps and pending updates with the
"Photography" or "Video" category selected in App Store Connect will be moved
automatically to the combined category
• "Kids" will no longer be a subcategory within "Games" on the Mac App Store

Additionally, Cupertino told developers today that watchOS apps will soon
support IAP. Beginning work on this also requires the Xcode 11.4 beta. Here's

Posted on this subject:
With the public release of watchOS 6.2, you'll be able to offer in‑app
purchases directly in your watchOS apps, so users can access premium content,
digital goods, subscriptions, and more, all right from their wrist. Get started
today by downloading Xcode 11.4 beta, implementing the StoreKit API, and build
for the beta version of watchOS 6.2.

The addition of IAP for watchOS follows the introduction of an on-Watch App
Store late last year. Previously, a user had to download and manage their Apple
Watch apps from a paired iPhone. Apple just released a watchOS 6.2 beta, and it
has not identified a date for a public release of 6.2. But this seems it will
be one of the flagship features of the update whenever it does arrive.
In addition to the watchOS 6.2 beta, Apple also released developer betas for
iOS 13.4 and macOS 10.15.4 this week. macOS 10.15.4 will include Screen Time
Communication Limits, a parental control feature previously introduced in iOS
and iPadOS 13.2 in December. It will also add the head pointer accessibility
feature already seen in iOS, which will allow users with disabilities to move a
Mac's mouse pointer with head motions tracked by a camera, including the
front-facing cameras built into the MacBook and iMac computers.
The iOS 13.4 developer beta adds new Memoji stickers with nine emotions made
out of whatever Memoji you might create, plus support for third-party
navigation apps in CarPlay, the company's car display software.
Both iOS and macOS will get iCloud folder sharing, so users will be able to
share folders with whomever they wish directly from the Files app (iOS) or
Finder (macOS).

I tried both of them, and they do work except there is a slight hissing sound
when using voice over. Kind of like you'd hear on a cassette tape. I tried
one pair of wired headphones and they sounded really good. I could even stop,
pause, play and change tracks by pushing a button on my headphone cord.

Setting Time Limit for Apps

2020-02-08 Thread Kelby Carlson
I have a question about using the Screentime feature on the iPhone. I have
tried to set up Safari to have a "time limit" via screen time so that I don't
waste too much time on the web. The time limit doesn't seem to work, though,
and when I go into Screentime and check by app, almost all of my time is listen
under "other".
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
