It’s the same as any other iPhone to set up.

It’s the cheaper option to the 10 when they were released.

No home button

So uses face id,

Other than that it’s the same setup as any other iPhone.

To turn voiceover on for the first time press the power button,

That is the one on the right side when looking at the screen

Press it three times quickly and vo should start up.

Scanner Bin

2020-03-10 Thread Richard Turner
Greetings,
I was just shown a scanning stand/box called Scanner Bin.
It is heavy cardboard by the feel, but seems pretty sturdy.
It is basically a box with a good sized hole in the top where you place the
camera, and put your document in the bin and do your scan.
It worked quite well with Voice Dream Scanner with the flash on since the bin
has no internal lights.

Sadly, the guy who makes this has videos all about assembly and use, but they
are clearly focused on someone who can see what he/she is doing.
I'm not sure I'd want to fold it up and reassemble for travel, without more
information about its durability.
But if you have about a foot square of desk space to leave it, it looks like a
good alternative to other stands.

His email is cont...@scannerbin.com
The price is $12.50 from Amazon.

Re: Voice Control, Dictation and Voiceover

2020-03-10 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
If you say “command mode”, you can go to the text edit field and, when the
keyboard comes up, you can say either “2 finger double tap” or “tap dictate”.
You then hear the sound to indicate that the microphone is listening - but, as
you dictate, VoiceOver does not read out what is being dictated. When you are
finished, say “tap done” and then the keyboard disappears and VoiceOver reads
out what you have just dictated. Because you are in command mode, there is no
infinite feedback loop!

Re: Voice Control, Dictation and Voiceover

2020-03-10 Thread Richard Turner
because Voice Control is always listening, you have to use earphones if you are
using VoiceOver.
Unlike Hey Siri, Voice Control does not know whose talking.
So, you are not doing anything wrong, and there is no other way than those you
have discovered; turn off speech, or use an earphone.

However, I am having terrible trouble when it comes to dictation, including

I can’t seem to find any articles, blogs or podcasts about using dictation

success with dictation and editing?

Re: Voice Control, Dictation and Voiceover

2020-03-10 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
When using voice control to write text, either use headphones as you describe
or say “Command mode” and then, when you are in a text edit field and the
keyboard has appeared, say “Tap dictate” and say what you want to dictate: in
my experience, VoiceOver does not read out the text, so there is no feedback
Loop. Someone else suggested that we introduce what you want to dictate with
the command “Type...”. But this does not work reliably for me.

RE: Dilemma with Wake-up Alarm Song

2020-03-10 Thread Afik Souffir

Hi Esther and happy Purim!

I'll check it out on my iphone 8 and let you all know.

It didn't happened to me, but I'll do a double check.

Subject: Dilemma with Wake-up Alarm Song

Hi, Everyone,

When I set up an alarm to awaken me in the morning, I usually like to hear a
particular song I have chosen from my music library and I save that particular
alarm time. I've never had difficulty with the song I have chosen until
recently. When I set the alarm at night, it shows the particular song I have
chosen, yet when my alarm sounds in the morning, it plays the default tone,
which is Radar, rather than the song I have chosen. I've tried, to no avail,
to delete the alarm and set it up again and it always shows the song, but when
the alarm sounds, it still plays the default Radar sound. I don't know what I
am doing wrong.

Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks.
