Re: The My Verizon app

2020-04-21 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
well the saga continues. And I guess
like most all else during this season they're no longer 24 let
alone 12 or 10 hours a day. I called shortly after 5 and got no
one. I even tried their chat with someone via the link we sent
you and still nothing doing.  Note to VoiceOver users if you try
the chat link thing via Safari on an iDevice the text field for
inputting information will say dimmed just double tap and hold
and the field will activate and let you in my case dictate into
it. Yes I cheated. Either way it didn't matter because it just
said "got it someone will be with you shortly." But shortly
never came.
So I'm glad for those who got in
touch with them and reported the issue.
It's a pity the CEO of Verizon
Wireless isn't on Twitter as the former head of TMobile used to
be.
I've tweeted at @VZWSuypport
requesting an update on the situation and asking when a roll out
might be expected. I also said I'd tweet at them once a week to
check on the progress therein until I see some movement. I was
polite and respectful throughout. If anyone cares to join in the
Twitter party for improved access do feel free.

Take good care.

Hi,
Well
I might be throwing a wrench into your theory I have no
shared users just me with two devices does that count as
shared users? And I have a friend who has two users on her
plan and she didn't get the new version or the appearance
thereof of the new version of the app till yesterday? So
maybe a staggered roll out for content if not versions of
the app? It's hard to know the latter because now no one can
get VoiceOver to read version number in the about section of
settings if you can even get there.
I'm
glad you found someone so willing to help.
How
did you get in touch with these tech people?
Take

I found a very nice high quality lightning to 3.5 MM adapter for the
 iPhone
from amazon. These adapters are a little pricey about $16 a piece, but
 they
are very well made and worth the money. If anyone is interested, I can
 post

Text messages can be sent to an android user from an iPad, as long as the
android user has the text message settings set to use an email address & a cell
phone number. The iPad user sends a text to the android user using the email

iPhone 7 Average Battery Life

2020-04-21 Thread Kelby Carlson
If anyone has an iPhone 7 running iOS 13 with a battery close to full capacity,
I'd really appreciate knowing what your average battery life is like. My
battery is at 80% health, and so I'm planning to replace it, but I'm trying to
figure out how much I will get for my money.

RE: Best podcast to download for exercising?

2020-04-21 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Dacia,

That's great to hear,

The fact you are wanting to become more active and lose weight tells me you are
mobile and therefore able to get around / walk etc.

2 things that have worked for me in recent months are eating better smaller
meals and lower carbohydrates for main meal times.

I eat a lot of fish related things, tuna rice and steaming vegetables etc.

But a bg thing that this covid 19 lockdown is proving very difficult is the
less nibbling of random things all the time.

But that's just an added etc.

The other big thing is getting outside for a brisk walk at least once a day,
Minimum of 30 minute and aiming to have your heart rate over 100 BPM

More specific cardio workouts will try to have you getting your hr up to
approx. 70% of your max which is 70% of 220 minus your age,

But walking at least once per day for min of 30 brisk minutes can do wonders.

I come from an exercise / physical education background so I do have some idea
of what I'm saying.

The workout apps and pod casts will get you doing short intensive workouts
which do have their useage but to start off simply and easily until you find
your feet, walking and sensible eating is a great place to start.
Especially the not constantly nibbling at food like majority of us do.

This has recently worked for me and I'm still getting out and walking up to 6
kelometers per day

Good luck and I hope that helps.

RE: Do we know what earphones SE takes?

2020-04-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Joshua,

Apple also sells its lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter for $9 at the
Apple Store. I don't know how its quality compares with what you described but
it works well for me.

2020-04-21 Thread Kathy Brandt
Are you talking about the one that is $16.99 that’s at the top of the adapter
results? The reviews look good, apart from the one star reviews, but other such
products had more one star reviews than this one. Are you personally using the
one you are talking about? Thanks.

RE: The My Verizon app

2020-04-21 Thread Anne West
Okay Robin and everyone.

I guess my theory was not correct. We shall see how all of this evolves.

The Verizon Tech Coach direct number is 888-488-1042. They are available 24/7
and they know what they are doing. My first encounter with Tech Coach was late
on a Saturday night and I was amazed at the way I was assisted. I recommend
them for tech support over the normal route.

Hi,

Well I might be throwing a wrench into your theory I have no shared users just
me with two devices does that count as shared users? And I have a friend who
has two users on her plan and she didn't get the new version or the appearance
thereof of the new version of the app till yesterday? So maybe a staggered roll
out for content if not versions of the app? It's hard to know the latter
because now no one can get VoiceOver to read version number in the about
section of settings if you can even get there.

I'm glad you found someone so willing to help.

How did you get in touch with these tech people?

Take good care.

Right on Robin! Thanks for your comments. There is another issue with the My
Verizon app.

Last night, Diane and I enlisted a friend to test his app. It was as before
which we didn’t understand. We are thinking that those of us who have shared
plans have the new format and people who are individuals have the former app. I
have 7 people and Diane had 3 people on her plan.

The rep I talked to yesterday was very interested in the app issues and he
escalated it. We shall see!

Hi Anne and all,

I posted about this situation last week and i"m glad that you joined me in
reporting this issue. As to others reporting no problems with it perhaps this
is explained by the fact that not all sections of the app have been equally
impacted. It appears to me that the up rewards area and the billing area are
still fine but what is now the combined manage devices and plans area which
used to be separated manage plans and devices by itself are now combined and
are unreadable or nearly so with voiceover in play. The settings area of the
app is another hard hit area.

I also mentioned that last week a friend of mine who is also a Verizon customer
seems as though she's viewing a completely different version of the app as even
the sections of the app are appearing differently. For instance by her manage
plans is still separate from devices. Why this is I do not know. And why such a
huge corporation whose purpose is to provide mobile connectivity would roll out
a major app update just as the world shuts down will forever be beyond me.

But Anne I'm here to say again I can absolutely verify that which you are
saying and I can do little in the way of paying off a device or upgrading a
device or switching plans right now myself in this app and it makes me really
upset.

If you'd also like to tweet at them if you've the means to do so they are at

@VZWSupport

Thanks to all who attempt to reproduce the difficulties and report them if you
do.

For those of us for whom accessibility is now broken the situation is really
difficult as getting customer service on the phone is really not going well and
in my case when i did they didn't seem able to help with my account related
issue anyway.

Here's hoping through polite and consistent communication accessibility can be
restored to this vital app for account management.

Take good care.

Robin

Hi all!

Yesterday, I went to the My Verizon app to get info and found the app to be
totally different and not accessible. This morning, my sighted friend, Hope,
was here and spent a lot of time with me attempting to find a way for me to
access info on the app. The app has been very Voice Over friendly but it’s not
now. The info I wanted was on the screen but we couldn’t figure out how I can
access it.

Being pro active, I called the Verizon Tech coach and spoke with Andre who was
very interested in what I had to say. I’m not going to write a novel but will
say the app needs serious help. I’m only one person of many so if other Verizon
subscribers could call to note the many issues, maybe something will be done. I
am extremely disappointed with the latest app revision. It is not at all user
friendly. I needed sighted help for most items on the app. Thanks in advance.

I found a very nice high quality lightning to 3.5 MM adapter for the
iPhone from amazon. These adapters are a little pricey about $16 a
piece, but they are very well made and worth the money. If anyone is
interested, I can post a link to them if you wish.

have to direct you to one of them to check it out. The one that comes to
 mind is, Overcomer.
Mary Poppins also has it. Hulu has a section just for audio
described movies. None of them interested me. I might let that one
go. I like Prime Video, thhgh. I do have Prime. After hitting
options and up arrow one time, I think that it says description. It
will say if it is not available. Then you do not have to go any
further. I think that once you set it on your tv, it will be working
on your other devices. I could be wrong. I am not sure. But I think
that it is then set in the Alexa app.

I did get a great deal and no problem with the size of it. The new phones
have the screen going all the way to the edges of the screen, so, as someone
said earlier don't require as much "real estate." My guess is, with it in
its case that it is about6 1/2 x 3 1/2. It is the same thickness as my SE;
it is heavier, but I'm use to it now.

RE: New game: Galactic Colonies

2020-04-21 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Yes it’s awesome! The sound effects makes you feel as you were really there! I’m stuck at the 2nd level, hoping that there might be some sort of a GamesEMail list, soasnot to clutter this one?    Enviado desde Correo para Windows 10 De: Wayne MerrittEnviado: lunes, 20 de abril de 2020 04:29 p. m.Para: viphoneAsunto: New game: Galactic Colonies Greetings. I found this on AppleVis. The game is called GalacticColonies and the app directory entry is:https://applevis.com/apps/ios/games/galactic-coloniesThis is a free simulation and resource management game. It is fromMetalPop Games, or the same folk who did Crafting Kingdom. It does notseem like there are any fights or conflict, just building andmaintaining resources, and exploring planets. Note, the game is notfully accessible. The developers are working on improvingaccessibility, and mentioned that in the What's New area in the AppStore, as of today anyway. If Crafting Kingdom is any indication, I'msure Galactic Colonies will work great when it is fully mature. Theyalso say in the game that they are releasing it for testing. Soperhaps the fully released version will be even better. Anyway, I'vebeen messing with it this afternoon and like it. It has some of thesame quirks as CK, such as speech sometimes being interrupted, but itis usable. The AppleVis link above includes a link to theAudioGames.net forum, which looks to have some good info. Enjoy,Wayne -- Connect with me on GoodReads:www.goodreads.com/waynesbooks -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. Your V iPhone list moderator is Mark Taylor.  Mark can be reached at:  mk...@ucla.edu.  Your list owner is Cara Quinn - you can reach Cara at caraqu...@caraquinn.com The archives for this list can be searched at:http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/--- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "VIPhone" group. To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to viphone+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com.To view this discussion on the web visit https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/viphone/CAOYhKtdTWhCHhRXa_oq105eavg5V5-_Z7jMipB%3DSqn1SWABcUw%40mail.gmail.com.

someone has ordered the new Se is not contributing to the group. I have been
hoping that the group moderators would have stepped in by now.

No problem. That is what I would have liked for it to have been pronounced
with a short I, since my dad's name was Carroll, and my mother was Justine.
She should have done that when she named me, but it didn't occur to me until
I was in my late 40's, and I figured, why bother now.

Hi,

My apologies, my info I took from my iphone not from my ipad. Checking the
settings on my ipad, the "messages" app is listed well down in "settings" but I
did not see a "send with SSL" entry within the Messages app settings. Thus, I
am not certain if you can send texts to Android phones from the ipad. However,
I would expect it to be able to do so.

Perhaps you could try it and let us know if it does work?

Thanks,

Re: The My Verizon app

2020-04-21 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Well I might be throwing a wrench
into your theory I have no shared users just me with two devices
does that count as shared users? And I have a friend who has two
users on her plan and she didn't get the new version or the
appearance thereof of the new version of the app till yesterday?
So maybe a staggered roll out for content if not versions of the
app? It's hard to know the latter because now no one can get
VoiceOver to read version number in the about section of
settings if you can even get there.
I'm glad you found someone so
willing to help.
How did you get in touch with these
tech people?
Take good care.

Hi
Anne and all,
I
posted about this situation last week and i"m glad that you
joined me in reporting this issue. As to others reporting no
problems with it perhaps this is explained by the fact that
not all sections of the app have been equally impacted. It
appears to me that the up rewards area and the billing area
are still fine but what is now the combined manage devices
and plans area which used to be separated manage plans and
devices by itself are now combined and are unreadable or
nearly so with voiceover in play. The settings area of the
app is another hard hit area.
I
also mentioned that last week a friend of mine who is also a
Verizon customer seems as though she's viewing a completely
different version of the app as even the sections of the app
are appearing differently. For instance by her manage plans
is still separate from devices. Why this is I do not know.
And why such a huge corporation whose purpose is to provide
mobile connectivity would roll out a major app update just
as the world shuts down will forever be beyond me.
But
Anne I'm here to say again I can absolutely verify that
which you are saying and I can do little in the way of
paying off a device or upgrading a device or switching plans
right now myself in this app and it makes me really upset.
If
you'd also like to tweet at them if you've the means to do
so they are at
@VZWSupport
Thanks
to all who attempt to reproduce the difficulties and report
them if you do.
For
those of us for whom accessibility is now broken the
situation is really difficult as getting customer service on
the phone is really not going well and in my case when i did
they didn't seem able to help with my account related issue
anyway.
Here's
hoping through polite and consistent communication
accessibility can be restored to this vital app for account
management.
Take
good care.

2020-04-21 Thread chaltain
You have several options.

If you have an iPhone then you can set it up so SMS text messages will be
forwarded to your iPad: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208386

You could also use a 3rd party app, like Google voice:

Re: Turning on audio description in Hulu and Prime Video?

2020-04-21 Thread dacia . luck
Hi,
The website www.acb.org/adp has a directory of all things that have audio
description. It is updated on a regular basis. There is a master list, or you
can look at it based on several different options including streaming services,
TV, movie theaters, and other things like museums.

RE: I just looked in the settings but I could not find it

2020-04-21 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I don't believe the ipad will let you send messages to android as iPads use
imessage which is an apple product only service,
An imessge to Imessge protocol,

If you send from your phone then you should be fine.

However you might be able to find a google app that will let you message a
google account on an android phone.

Hi,

My apologies, my info I took from my iphone not from my ipad. Checking the
settings on my ipad, the "messages" app is listed well down in "settings"
but I did not see a "send with SSL" entry within the Messages app settings.
Thus, I am not certain if you can send texts to Android phones from the ipad.
However, I would expect it to be able to do so.

Perhaps you could try it and let us know if it does work?

Thanks,

Hi,
I am looking for the best workout podcasts to download. Preferably ones for
beginners, as I am not in the best shape, so I need some thing that will not be
too complex. Obviously, I know that I will have to work at it, but I’m not
looking for something complex like a marathon training podcast or anything.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
How do you turn on or launch audio description on both Hulu and prime video?
Can anyone tell me a program on either of those services that has audio
description so I can test it? Also, if I turn it on for one device, will it
remember it for others or will I have to turn it on for each device?

I'd suggest that the jury is out but the judge really doesn't give a flying

The original sE is a nice little phone,
But it's no longer available and it works with the OS it has now so
Why worry about 6 months from ow,

So it the phone had 9 on it at release,
Then it's had 4 full IOs versions updated to get to 13.

When I bought my first SE, it was on 11, then went to 12, and 13. So, there are
three. People who bought theirs earlier had 9 and 10. That adds to five 9, 10,
11, 12, 13.

Richard,

Possibly school maths has changed since we went to school but I do agree with

When I went to school, 9 plus 3 equals 12, so in fact, it has received 4
updates, 10, 11, 12, and 13.

Ummm,

9 plus 3 equals 12,
My work SE original is running 13.
If I take 3 away from 13 I get 10,
 10 is not nine,

Unless they changed maths since I went to school.

9 updates to 10,
10 updates to 11,
11 updates to 12
12 updates to 13,

That to me makes it 4.

But the original SE came out march the year the 7 was released I thought,

Which makes me think it came out with IOS ios 9 on it,
So IOs 14 would make it a fifth iteration of the IOS system

That Remains ToBe seen, & I'm specifically Referrin'To Apple's iOSUpdates on
Older MobilePhones (Like the 1stGeneration iPhoneSE).
If Apple doesn't Allow For iOS14 on its 1stGeneration iPhoneSE, then it would
have been only SupportedFor 3Years since the 1stGeneration SE was Released in
TheSpring of 2016 & Recieve its Last iOS update in September2019: Apple's iOS13

Time will Tell TheStory

As you have Described, Apple's Sales of its MobilePhones, the iPhone have
Declined Over-the-Years & this could Be a Result of Apple supportin' its
iOSDevices LongerThan its Competitors (Mainly Samsung)

Let's Remember the 1stGeneration SE was Retired & has TheSpecs of Apple's
iPhone6S & iPhone6S+ with Exception to TheFingerPrintReader, which is TheSame
as on Apple's iPhone5S along with the BodyFrame of the 5S
